Felicia Payne

Rate this book
Blamed for the fire that dismantled her family, Felicia Payne suffered a childhood few could endure at the hands of her unstable and sadistic mother. Terrorized, starved and brutally beaten, neighbors ignored her gut-wrenching cries. Teachers dismissed her bruises. Fearless of the consequences after years of merciless torture, Felicia Payne took matters into her own hands.
Freed from misery, her soul sold to the devil, the streets of Prince George’s County, Maryland became her playground. One day out of nowhere, her steel-like-exterior is penetrated by the one thing she never had. Absent of a conscience, she’d kill to satisfy her lifelong yearning.
An adult fugitive on the run, wanted by the FBI for a slew of murders and kidnapping, Felicia Payne is the chilling tale about the dysfunctional world that breeds psychotic killers. A prison cell or casket in her near future, Felicia Payne’s determined to go down as one of the most notorious. All for the one thing she wanted most in the world – love.

Book Review: Felicia Payne by Traci Bee

To fully appreciate this book, you have to read the previous books by Traci Bee, “Two Tears in a Bucket” and a Another Tear”, in order to get the full understanding as to who Felicia Payne truly is. I hated her in book one and the feeling was basically the same in book two, however, I felt sorry for her in book three as the author went back to her early existence which was built on a lies with parents who put their own needs in front of a young impressionable child! Felicia did not start out being the monster she turned out to be, she was made to be this way. To see her put in the system and blamed for actions she did not commit by a person who was supposed to love her unconditionally to save their own skin was heartbreaking and would make anyone bitter. This book covered the upbringing and mishaps that molded Felicia into the person she became as an adult. From the grandmother with her husband Cletus who basically took advantage of his stepdaughter Roberta when she was in financial need, to the fast azz Bernadette (Roberta’s daughter), 12 years old, well developed for her age with her eyes set on the neighborhood cutie 16 year old Lawrence Payne. Bernadette reckless naive ways lead to her becoming a mother by the age of 13 giving birth to Felicia. Felicia’s mother had good intentions, wanting Felicia to be raised in a household with both parents unlike the one Bernadette was raised in but all was not to be due to some knowledge that Lawrence has that would devastate Bernadette if she knew the truth. The woman in Felicia’s life went through a cycle of mishaps with men that caused death of Bernadette's mother Roberta after she went on a date with her stepfather Cletus to discuss her not having her rent once again that ended in her murder for being in the wrong place at the wrong time to the mental breakdown of Roberta's mother when she found out her daughter had been out with her husband when she was killed. All these mishaps and others that happened formed the bitter conniving Felicia Payne that we were introduced to in the previous novels.. Knowing everything she went through gives me some compassion, but Felica Payne is just one of those characters you just love to hate. I wanted to read more about Bernadette's reactions to what she saw in the papers and that thing that finally made Felicia flip! I think my only complaint is that I wanted to read more. When I got to the end all I could say was , "oh no the hell you didn't"! LOL I enjoyed the story and if you have been following Felicia Payne in the two previous novels, I think you will like this as well.

While there were a couple of places in this book where I was lost, wondering why the setting changed and thinking, "that's not the correct word," when I reached the very end, I was STUCK. I enjoyed this book, thoroughly, and it is definitely on par with what I've come to expect from this author. It's definitely a story within a story, which means I wouldn't suggest it as a stand alone. However, if you know anything about Ms. Felicia, this book gives a bird's eye view into who she is, how she became, and the characters around her. Looking to find her place in a world where those who should love you are busy playing the game of survival in the streets, trying too hard to live for self to live with you, and neglecting to care for you in even the most basic of human forms is the center of this young lady's story. There is betrayal, loss, and disappointment...what does one do with all of this? Well, Traci Bee does a great job of continuing the story here.

I love Traci Bee style of writing. I started reading Felicia Payne and was 3/4 of the way in when I noticed mine had not been updated. Quick email to Amazon & it was corrected. Started over from the beginning and still enjoyed the story. The only critique I would have is that since I started reading the rough draft first it was a bit more detailed and I enjoyed that. Overall, awesome back story on Felicia. Can't wait for Tears 3!

Wow

What a hard life for a child to live. Now I understand how Felicia got so caught up in loving a man that didn't want her. Her own mother and grandmother went through a lot and she ended up following their path of destruction. Great read but a few errors.
