Donna McGarry does it again with another bright and zany Zodiacts episode, this time demonstrating the domain of Virgo. Under the influence of a Virgo Moon the clan is on a cleaning frenzy, getting organized and working on their health and fitness plan. Fired up by an upcoming Healthy Eating Challenge competition, Vinny D’Virgo, aspiring chef and health food nut, is all set to enter one of his healthy recipes. If he can satisfy picky Leo then he will have a winner! As a junk food junkie Leo isn’t easily pleased until his doctor motivates him by telling him his diet must change.

Virgo addresses work, service, organization, cleanliness and health. This story not only captures the essence of that zodiac sign but includes the usual subtle message for young and old alike. These times when obesity has become a national epidemic have set the perfect stage for a children’s book that addresses healthy eating in an amusing yet honest way. Switching your family’s preferred eating habits isn’t easy but doing so offers a substantial reward, one from which young and old alike can greatly benefit. Like the other books in this series, parents and grandparents can get the most benefit from them by using each story as a springboard for discussion about its message.

I received this book as the result of a FirstReads giveaway.

This book wasn't exactly what I thought it would be but I was pleasantly surprised! The book is completely in rhyme and at the front of the book, not only does it explain the cast of characters, but it gives an idea what type of activities are best to do under a Virgo moon. I am impressed! As a kid I was drawn to astrology. I loved to read my horoscope and wanted to know more about it whenever I could, This book would be perfect for kids like that.

Of course, with that said, it would also be good for the kid that likes to cook, stay healthy and needs to hear that you may not win first place but that you will try harder next time. It's even great for the kid who loves his sugary snacks. This may cover pretty much every kid I know.

The illustrations are unique. There is lots to look at on each page keeping a younger child entertained.

Some of the words may be trying for a young reader but the story line doesn't lose its cohesiveness with rhyming words just for the sake of rhyming. (Something that can be difficult when rhyming.)

The editing was fantastic and the over all book is well done.
