A wagon full of secrets. A trail soaked in blood. One man who never asked to be the hero.Ryder is a drifter. A loner. The kind of man who doesn’t ask questions—and doesn’t answer many either. When he signs on to ride scout for a small wagon train bound for Abilene, it seems like just another job.
But the people he’s riding with? They’re not what they seem. And the crates they’re hauling? They’re worth killing for.
Before long, Ryder’s neck-deep in a deadly game of betrayal, sabotage, and buried Confederate gold. One by one, the travelers turn on each other—some out of greed, others out of fear. And watching from the ridgelines are men with rifles… waiting for the right time to strike.
But there’s one thing they didn’t count on.
Ryder doesn’t run.
With nothing but grit, a fast Colt, and a growing bond with a sharp-eyed girl and a boy with too much heart for the trail, Ryder stands between survival and slaughter.
Because when the shooting starts, there’s no law left but lead—and no mercy in a place where everyone has a price.
A brutal, blood-soaked western for fans of Louis L'Amour, The Sisters Brothers, and Lonesome Dove.🔥 No law. No luck. Just Ryder.

5 STARS for Book 2 in this creative gritty storyline of the Ryder Series. I is well written & interesting with Ryder being a Scout this time instead of on a possee. However, we know things can't be that simple for Ryder. 1st nobody really wants to work for Granger & his boss or a man he worked for owed Granger a favor & had Ryder go be a Scout for his wagon to fulfill that.
Even before they leave Granger starts trying to over use his authority of what Rider's job responsibilities are & Ryder speaks up with what he is there to do. Then it gets worse when they don't listen to Rider's advice of trails but then they blame him for the loss of time. Ryder realizes whatever is in the wagon they are hauling gets people killed.
A real page turner. The reader can't help but feel they are riding on the trail or around the campfire when camped for the night. One can almost feel the tension as the days & evenings start passing by.
Taking three pagesTo describe the number of arms Ryder is carrying is filling pages that are too-full to begin with. It also makes a good book boring reading,. This is my second And last reading of a Wyatt Steele book. RWE KINGMAN,Az
I read this book in one sitting. It has a lot of violence , revenge and greed and deaths from the civil war that tied into this story five years later. Great read.
