Lennon Kilcrease After losing the championship game last season, I’m more determined than ever to bring home the title for Haulton University my senior year.
And when one of the best goalies in recent history strides into the room as our new assistant coach, I’m thrilled. To be the best, you gotta learn from the best, and I want to learn everything Luke Holloway can teach me.
Except, he’s not actually interested in teaching me. Or anything it seems. He’s late, lazy, and nothing like the winner he used to be.
But I want to win. I’m hungry for it and willing to do whatever it takes. And that seems to ignite something in my new coach. As the season goes on and we work closer and closer to my goal, lines start to blur.
I begin to notice things I shouldn’t about him, and he seems to do the same. I thought I only cared about winning, but I find myself willing to risk it all to be with the one person I can’t have. My coach.
Luke Holloway I never thought I’d be a coach, let alone for a women’s college hockey team. But after a career-ending injury put me into an early retirement from the NHL, I don’t have much else going for me.
When I arrive at Haulton and am tasked with working with their starting goalie, I couldn’t care less. But she’s determined and refuses to put up with my indifference. She wants to learn from the best? Fine. I just hope she can handle what she’s asking for.
But as the season goes on, her fire sparks mine back to life. I try to snuff it out because the things I’m feeling are wrong.
I’m her coach. She’s my athlete. But neither of us can stop it. How many rules am I willing to break to be with the one person who finally makes me feel alive after years of feeling like my life is over? The answer is every single one of them.
You are not ready for Luke and Lennon!! Forbidden, raw, and emotional. The tension is 10/10! 👌🏻
Michae has found deep roots in hockey romance. It has been an absolute privilege to watch her bloom on this journey. Her writing hits on a different level and you can feel the passion behind every word.
Truly enjoyed this one! The MMC and FMC fought for each other and their relationship. I loved that the FMC was the athlete and the MMC was the coach. His grumpiness was great. Loved her relationship and dynamic with the team. It was all great. Highly recommend and will be reading more from this author!
To be able to read this early was an absolute privilege. Lennon and Luke are 🤌🏼 chefs kiss. The tension? The angst? The FORBIDDENESS!? 🥵 yes. Everything, yes.
I thought this story started strong, but for me, the second half dragged, and I struggled. Not my fave from Michae. I actually usually inhale her books.
I really liked that the FMC, Lennon, was a hockey player. That was cool. I wasn't a fan of the epilogue. To be fair, I rarely am.
Lennon is in her final year at college, and she is determined to win the hockey championship. Luke suffered a career ending injury which forced his retirement from the NHL, and he is now appointed as the new assistant coach for the woman’s team. Lennon is determined to become the best goalie, so she wants to learn from the best which is Luke. This is a well written slow burn story, which has angst, emotions, coach / athlete, forbidden romance, flawed characters, an age gap, tension, and love, which leads to an entertaining, hockey romance. I look forward to reading more from this author whose work I recommend.
a Slow burn, age gap novel between the hockey coach of a college female team and one of his athlete.
I was on the verge of DNFing this book because I wasn't too taken with the story. I like the characters but I couldn't find any sparks or tension.
i kinda liked the first part but when I didn't notice a big change in their behavior from 'hating' each other to falling for one another was missing I stopped reading for a couple of days.
The ending was quite predictable.
Thank you The Author Agency for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
Goalie is definitely one of my top reads this year. I honestly don’t know what to say. But what I will say is this story was absolutely outstanding. I couldn’t get enough of Lennon and Luke.
Lennon works hard for everything she has. She has two jobs and top of that is the goalie of the girls college team. And she has one goal is mind is to win the Frozen Four championship. Even if it means getting extra help from none other than ex NHL Luke Holloway.
Luke is a retired goalie from the NHL from a bad injury. When an opportunity comes he takes it. At first he isn’t a fan, but when Lennon wants to be push he pushes her to the limit. To make her one of best goalie there is. When lines get blurred and feeling gets involved they try everything to push it away.
Once the rules get broken it becomes clear it’s not all about the game but more. They both open up to each other and you see that something special is there.
This story was written beautifully. It had it all pain, love, friendship and lot of hockey. I really enjoyed this story so much and this was my first read of this amazing author. And I can’t wait to read more of her work.
Nobody writes tension like Michae Marie. I was on the edge of my seat the entire book. This is the fifth book by the author and I am in continuous awe of her growth as a writer. This woman was meant to tell stories.
As for Goalie, I did not think it was going to top starting line but I’ve never been happier to be wrong (I’ll be mourning Caleb Callahan until further notice) This book had endearing flawed characters, tons of hockey content that kept me entertained and a forbidden romance that the characters actually fought hard to resist but couldn’t help falling in love anyways damn the consequences.
Plainly put, this book is perfection. 5 stars. No notes.
Thoughts Will Reading Goalie (does contain spoilers) - Luke has the potential to be my fav Michae mmc - A STARTING LINE REFERENCE if Caleb is in this book I will pass out - Why is he upset about her name? like bro you haven’t even met her. That's so out of pocket lol - Michae writes GREAT MMCs but her FMCs are all INCREDIBLE. I love when WOMEN - I love a damaged man.. I swear I can fix him - Lennon chewing out Luke. Yes what a queen. “I KINDA LIKED IT” - Luke is so emo I love it - The Starwars reference is making me want to watch again - REG FLAG THIS MAN HAS NEVER SEEN STARWARS - “I hope it does.” yeah I bet you do Luke - he’s coaching her. IT”S HAPPENING. she’s gonna make him love the game again - chapter 12 was so good. The chemistry between these two is already heating up - he’s noticing her freckles - despite the boundaries he clearly knows about Luke is really good at bulldozing right past them - AHH he’s taking her to his place - both Lennon and Luke: this is a bad idea me: this is the best idea to ever be had ever - “are you regretting this.” “I should be.” nobody writes tension like Michae I swear. - chapter 17. The Tension. The PROXIMITY. - the sluttiest thing a goalie can do is rest their goalie mask on their head, spray water all over their face and then proceed to shake it off. thank you Luke and thank you Michae - Jealous Luke. Jealous Luke. I REPEAT. Jealous Luke - oh he’s mad. throwing a tantrum that someone was kissing his goalie - Lennon is just like all the other girlies. We are helpless when a man wears his hat backwards - bro will not stop bringing up her “boyfriend” Luke chilllll - THE TENSION. THE BUILDUP. THE SLOWBURN - he can’t keep his eyes off her - I would like to murder the people that interrupted them in the closet - sometimes I like to think I’m a rationale person and then I read a really good book where I am yelling at the characters or throwing my kindle away/turning it off cause I just need a moment and realize I am in fact not rational at all - “Are you done fighting this?” - I literally had to shut off my kindle. THE SPICE - Oh no am I liking Luke more than Caleb? HOW DID THIS HAPPEN. BRB need to go reread scenes from starting line - I’m getting that five star feeling (i’m 62% in) - had to stop for snacks the tension is getting to me - no fucking way is he making her breakfast. I kinda want to cry at that (he in fact was making her breakfast and was bad at it which makes me love him more) - i’m obsessed with Lennon this girl can take it as well as she dishes it. I love a sassy fmc Luke is gonna have grey hairs because of her and probably won’t even care - Luke Holloway should be locked up for his dirty mouth - he said good girl thats my kryptonite (I’m currently stress eating gummy bears because I only have 100 pages left. I don’t want this to end) - Lukes only red flag was he hadn’t watched star wars and now he’s fixing it and so he’s perfect and I am dying over yet another fictional man - I knew this was going to happen. I fucking KNEW IT. Is he gonna jump on the ice????? - “I thought it was the worst thing that could ever happen to me. But it’s not. It’s seeing it happen to the person I love. Right in front of my very eyes.” I CANNOT BREATHE - he did in fact jump over the boards - the extra epilogue was everything - That was incredible
This was difficult to review. Only because I have followed this author's YouTube channel for many years and when she became an author it was such an awesome moment. I did, however put off reading any of her books, simply because I was apprehensive. All us readers fancy ourselves some sort of writer and we have plenty of opinions of how it should be done, don't we 😫, while deep down we know it's not as easy as we imagine or believe. Here's where it got difficult for me to rate the book... because I know the author's likes in books, I felt this book was rather tame. While it was a beautiful story, it was kinda tame. I also have to mention I don't read sports romances since I don't know about American hockey or Stanley cups. This book was thankfully very light in detail in the sports dept (at least for me). The parts I didn't understand I skimmed over.
Ok. Moving on.
When reading a book, I mostly know what my rating will be about 35-40ish percent in. This book was a 3 star read the whole time I was reading it, until the 80 % mark. What changed was that it got deliciously intense and the author delivered on all the feels and angst. I love me an asshole in books, and Luke was definitely a grumpy 1. Then at 80% in, Luke knew what he wanted, and he knew it was Lennon. He fought for his own happiness as well as hers. No regrets. I love seeing that in books and in male characters. I want to feel how they feel, I want to feel all the emotions - and the author did a wonderful job with Luke. Lennon was also another surprise for me, a strong female lead with a more than tolerable personality and a fighting attitude that I totally got behind. The characters were so well thought out. Its the worst when FMC leads are obnoxious and annoying. I also loved the dynamic in the team - even though they were all girls - there was no fighting amoungst one another and girl on girl hate. Some writers just adds that in there for added drama, this writer did not, which tells of a certain maturity. That last 20 percent of the book was SO SO good, and thats why i decided to add another star. Luke was ready to fight anyone and everything for Lennon. Aaannnnddd, there was no third act break-up!!!!
Throughout reading the book though, I kept wondering how much of the book was actually the writer and how much was actually her writing like other writer's. I kept looking for her voice within the words written on page. The book felt generic at first. The phrases that were used in the book was some very over-used wording in romance books- you know what I'm talking about... (is that for me, you so big, you're so wet) type of vibes. Is it fair of me to have these thoughts about this author in particular, while I dont usually think; is this this author's voice- I unfortunately did think that in this case. There was also a couple spelling mistakes, which was negligible. That said, I cant wait to read her other novels now and cant wait for her to come in to her own.
🏒 Sports Romance 🔥 Forbidden Romance 👨🏫 Coach/Athlete 💪 Strong Heroine 💔 Age Gap 🚫 Rule Breaking 🌟 Second Chances 🎓 College Setting ❤️ Slow Burn 🧊 Grumpy Meets Determined
Star: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Goalie by Michae Marie is a sizzling, emotional sports romance that blends the intensity of college athletics with the slow-burning tension of a forbidden relationship. Set in the high-stakes world of collegiate hockey, the story follows Lennon, a fiercely ambitious goaltender in her senior year at Haulton University, and Luke Holloway, a former NHL star turned reluctant assistant coach.
Lennon is single-minded in her pursuit of victory after a devastating loss in the previous season. Her drive is palpable, her focus unshakable—until Luke enters the picture. What should have been a dream come true quickly becomes a frustrating challenge, as her new coach appears disinterested and disillusioned. But Lennon refuses to accept mediocrity. Her determination not only reignites Luke’s passion for the game but also stirs something far more dangerous between them.
Luke is a man burdened by lost glory and broken dreams. Coaching wasn’t part of his plan, and working with a team of driven young athletes—especially one as relentless as Lennon—forces him to confront the ghosts of his past. What begins as reluctant mentorship evolves into undeniable chemistry, with their shared passion for hockey fanning flames they can’t afford to feel.
As the season progresses, their professional boundaries blur, and the story shifts from tension-filled banter to emotional vulnerability and forbidden desire. Their connection is undeniable, but the stakes are high. Both Lennon and Luke risk everything—careers, reputations, and futures—for a relationship that defies the rules.
The dual POV storytelling offers deep insight into both characters, showcasing their inner conflicts and the weight of their choices. The writing is sharp and emotionally rich, capturing the thrill of the game alongside the heartbreak of wanting something that feels just out of reach. Marie handles the power dynamics and ethical tension with sensitivity, never losing sight of the characters' agency or emotional arcs.
Goalie is more than just a sports romance—it’s a story about rediscovering passion, fighting for second chances, and choosing vulnerability in the face of risk. With palpable chemistry, emotional intensity, and a satisfying payoff, it’s a standout read for fans of forbidden love, athlete/coach dynamics, and emotionally driven narratives. A compelling blend of grit, heart, and heat.
Somehow, despite this being wrong to lie here in my coach’s arms, it feels right.
I always open a Michae Marie book with anticipation and this one is no different. Knowing from the get-go it was about a sports romance between a coach and his athlete with a large age gap and forbidden aspects in the mix, I knew I was destined to love this book. I mean, it’s all of my favorite tropes combined into one. And sure enough, it’s the best book I’ve read this year so far. I kid you not, I’ve been thinking about this book non-stop ever since I finished it. Luke and Lennon lives in my head rent free from now on.
I have followed Michae for years now and I’ve always loved her forbidden/age gap book recommendations from her. And finally to be able to read something from her with a delicious age gap romance between a coach and his athlete were everything to me. It felt like a full circle moment for me.
Luke Holloway, MMC, is a broken hockey legend who wants nothing with coaching the Haulton’s university women’s hockey team to do, but in desperate search for something in his life post his injury. Despite of his icy facade, Luke can’t help but to find himself drawn to the team’s goalie; Lennon Kilcrease, FMC. Lennon is a hardworking ambitious goalie, who’s willing to put everything at risk if it means winning, even falling for her coach.
Firstly, the characters Luke and Lennon is two people with their own struggles and goals, feeling more than two dimensional to me. Luke is such a broody hero with broken dreams and with his chance at having a purpose, his way is through Lennon at that. And Lennon is someone who has a hunger and burning passion for hockey, and a big heart for the people she loves. Seeing Luke get back his spark for hockey through Lennon were so satisfying to read. I loved seeing her bringing him out of his depression and darkness. And them together accomplishing their goals were everything to me. Both of them had great character growth. The chemistry between Luke and Lennon were off the charts. They got me giggling, kicking my feet and screaming into my pillow, that is how obsessed I’m with them. Gosh, I love them so much.
Ahh I have so many favorite scenes, without giving away too much some of them is like the shower scene, Star Wars, chapter 36, the bathtub scene, the epilogue and so on.
“Now that that’s taken care of, shut the fuck up and swallow your coach’s dick like the overachiever I know you are. Then once you’ve made me come, I’ll think about returning the favor.” ”Yes, Coach.”
I literally couldn’t put this book down, it consumed me! I binged the last 80 % in one sitting and once I finished it, I immediately wanted to read it again. Lennon and Luke has definitely left a mark on my heart. To say that I’m obsessed with this book is an understatement. Thank you so much Michae for the ARC in exhange for an honest review. Please pick this book up when it releases on May 30th, you won’t be disappointed.
Tropes: 🥅 Sports romance ❤️ Age gap (12 years) 🥅 Angst and tension ❤️ Forbidden 🥅 Coach x athlete
Goalie is a forbidden, age-gap hockey romance between Lennon and Luke; it is a raw, emotional whirlwind filled with angst, tension, and undeniable chemistry. As the star goalie of her college team, Lennon is determined to lead them to victory after last year’s devastating near-miss. She’s driven, fiercely dedicated, and refuses to let anything stand in the way of her goals - not even the new coach who doesn’t seem to care.
Luke is hardened by life, by loss, by a marriage that crumbled into nothing. He’s no longer the golden boy—he’s jaded, unhappy, and drowning in the weight of what could have been after an injury took him out of the game for good. But then there’s Lennon—fiery, passionate, and entirely off-limits. Their connection is forbidden, yet impossible to ignore. Every glance burns, every interaction teeters on the edge of something dangerous. And when the tension finally shatters, the result is incendiary—spice that is as intense as the emotions running beneath it.
But desire has consequences. Lennon and Luke’s relationship threatens everything—their careers, their reputations, their futures. And in the high-pressure world of hockey, control and discipline rule, leaving no room for distractions. Still, what they share is too powerful to deny, too deep to be dismissed, forcing them to question how much they’re willing to risk for something that could either ruin them—or finally make them whole.
With gut-wrenching emotion, sizzling passion, and a love that defies expectations, Goalie is perfect for readers who crave forbidden romances with high stakes, complicated pasts, and characters who fight against everything—only to realize that some things are worth breaking the rules for.
A huge thank you to Michae Marie and the author agency for the early copy!
🏒Coach x Hockey Player 🫦Age Gap (21, 33) ❤️No 3rd Act Breakup 💙Forbidden Love ❤️🔥Slow Burn 👿Angst
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶
Review: This is my first hockey romance. I know nothing of hockey nor watch it lol. But I loved this, so I wanted to say that even if you aren't a hockey watcher, you can still very much enjoy a hockey book!
I absolutely loved this forbidden love! We get a wounded and broken hockey legend, Luke who had no interest in coaching a college girls team but is desperate for direction in his life, post injury. Overseeing the guidance of goalie prodigy Lennon, they start off quite at odds with the other. Luke isn't present (in his phone, falling asleep) at practices and Lennon just wants him to care about making her a great player.
His icy facade is a shield for his pain and bitterness, but moments begin to occur between the two that begins to melt the frosty snark they dish out to each other. She sees why he's hurting and also the amazing coach he can be. His passion for hockey is reinvigorated by her zest for perfection. He sees a bit of himself in her as well as a strong, talented, and brave young woman. She pushed him just as he pushed her, and she brought him back to life.
The slow burn is exceptionally real feeling and props to tasteful spice that isn't too over the top and compliments the narrative. Luke really does feel a connection to her and tries to restrain himself, to be honorable. But their chemistry is just electric and I ate up their s3xual tension! The right amount of drama, angst, and humor, this is an easy reccomendation and I was ecstatic to have this winner as my first hockey romance.
“When the team wins, it’s a team effort. When a team loses, it’s the goalie’s fault.”
Goalie was one of my most anticipated reads of this year and I’m so happy to say that it didn’t disappoint.
Lennon (FMC) is a senior in college, the goalie of the women’s hockey team at Haulton university. She works hard and has so little time for herself since on top of school, and hockey she also works as a tutor and barista at the college library. Her goal is to win the Frozen four championship. Enter Luke (MMC) former NHL goalie and the new assistant coach. Luke was forced to retire from hockey due to a career ending injury. He has cut everyone off since his injury but accepts the job even though he really doesn’t want to be there. The head coach of the team wants him to work with her two goalies Grace and Lennon. She sees something special in Lennon. Lennon can tell Luke doesn’t really want to be there and she gives him plenty of attitude. Frustrated because she wants to be the best goalie and thought Luke would be the one to teach her since he was the best, she asks him for help, and he agrees to start additional morning and evening training sessions with her, in the process he really starts to enjoy teaching and life again. Soon feelings start to form, and lines begin to blur…
What to expect: 🏒Age Gap 🏒Forbidden 🏒Coach x Athlete 🏒Angsty 🏒Slow burn 🏒Hockey
I read most of the book in one sitting. I just couldn't put it down. Looking forward to reading more from Michae.
Title: Goalie Author: Michae Marie Hero/Heroine: Luke & Lennon What to Expect: Age Gap, Hockey Romance, Forced Proximity, Forbidden, Coach x Athlete, College Romance, Grumpy x Sunshine,
tw/cw: description of serious sports injury and after effects, death of a parent, mention of cancer, mention of concussion,
A hockey romance where she is the goalie and he’s the coach? Sign me the hell up! This story had me SHOOKETH in the best way. Luke and Lennon’s story was addictive, engaging and full of delicious, forbidden tension.
I read this book in less than a day; housework and other boring adult things were cast aside, so strong was my need to read more of this incredible story. Luke and Lennon had this woman in a chokehold for pretty much the whole thing. And that ending? I had the biggest, Joker style smile on my face whilst reading it.
Though at times I wanted to smack Luke upside the head with a hockey stick, his growth arc throughout this book was wonderful to see. Determined to not give a shit about his role as a coach, that soon changed when he witnessed Lennon’s drive and love for the game. Honestly, these two were such incredibly likeable characters, I couldn’t help but be fully consumed by their forbidden yet passionate romance.
If you do one thing over this boiling hot weekend (in the UK at least), pick up this book. I’m off to add the authors back catalogue to my TBR.
✨overall thoughts: I loved it, gimme 14 of ‘em ✨ 3rd act break up: no ✨ heat level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ ✨ star rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really enjoyed the angsty, forbidden romance between Lennon and Luke. He is still reeling from a career ending injury and is struggling with finding any joy or excitement in life. He reluctantly accepts an assistant coaches position and barely puts any effort into doing the job. When, Lennon, one of his players talks back to him he feels a hint of challenge that starts to bring him out of his funk.
Lennon is such a strong young woman. She’s shouldering a lot of extra pressure - hockey practices, games, & workout on top of college classes, and working two jobs. She’s initially excited to have a legendary ex-NHL goalie as a goalie coach, but she’s quickly disappointed in his lazy and uninterested attitude.
Once she starts getting in his face, the tension between them builds as they each try to tap down on their attraction. As they spend more time together, I loved seeing their connection develop and deepen.
The forbidden aspect of their relationship created some extra push/pull drama as Luke attempted to avoid crossing boundaries, but close proximity eventually weakened his resolve along with growing feelings beyond just a physical attraction.
This was a very interesting read, and I loved the epilogue and wished we would have seen a little more of their future.
I received a free ARC from the author and The Author Agency; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.
I'm going to fangirl for a minute, I've always loved @ohheyitsmichae YouTube channel, then she spoilt us with the Rockstar series whisper me nothing, (one of my favorite tropes) then she hit us with a sport standalone and now goalie a hockey romance..plus she adds age gap... knock me right over. ummm, can she see into my brain... girl, you are killing me in the best way possible 🥵
So goalie is out on 30th May, and to say I devoured this book is an understatement. Luke is coming off an injury that ended his career in the NHL. He is cynical, negative, and actually just a rude ass.. (a hot sexy ass) he takes a coaching job for a woman's ice hockey college team, and he absolutely could not want to be there less.
Lennon the goalie for the woman's team is determined and full of goals and dreams, she kicks ass and will do whatever it takes to succeed, she is super excited when she realizes who her new coach will be, what all he can help her game.
They have tension, anger, and passion, and it fuels these very hot, sexy taboo moments between them that have you fluttering in all the right places.
Secrets always have a way of getting out.. as the saying goes... is the juice worth the squeeze... these two were fire together. Hot, sexy spicy...
Off to dream, drool, and fantasize about Luke doing those hockey warm-ups.
Yes! Yes! Yes! What a delicious, forbidden age gap! This is my second book I've read by Michae and it certainly did not disappoint. I completely fell in love with Lennon & Luke!
Coach Luke Holloway is a former NHL goalie who was forced into early retirement due to an injury he sustained on the ice. Leaving him completely lost and miserable without Hockey in his life, he reluctantly accepts a couching position for a collegiate women's hockey team. Talk about grumpy! This man makes it clear from the beginning he's not very excited nor interested in this new venture until he starts working closely with a goalie named Lennon. Lennon is an extremely hard working student and very talented athlete that works as a barista and tutor to support herself. All she wants to do is improve as a goalie and help bring her team to a championship win at the Frozen Four. Initially, working with Luke, she's completely frustrated with his attitude to his new position and team. It doesn't take long after they start working more closely together for the strong attraction and tension to grow, blurring the lines for the both of them.
The relationship that blooms between them is nothing short of beautiful and emotional. The way they open up to one another and let down their walls had me rooting so hard for them. The slowburn and tension in this book is simply perfection! Hockey romances are very saturated right now and some don't have much represent in their book. This is a true hockey romance that had me hooked from the beginning.
A must read for you if you enjoy the following tropes...
🏒 Hockey Romance 🔥Forbidden 🏒Coach x Athelete 🔥Age Gap (33 & 21) 🏒No 3rd Act Breakup 🔥Angtsy/ Emotional 🏒Slowburn 🔥College/ New Adult 🏒 Second Chances
*Thank you so much to Michael Marie & The Author Agency for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Goalie is my first Michae Marie book and it is a coach/athlete college hockey romance book. Luke is a former NHLer whose career was cut short by an injury. He finds himself with the opportunity to be the assistant coach of a women’s college hockey team. Because of his position as a goalie, he is asked to work specifically with the two goalies, starter Lennon and her backup Grace. Lennon is competitive and takes the faults of the team on to herself. Luke, in the beginning, doesn’t seem invested in this job and I don’t know if it was so-much because they were females or he just didn’t care at all. It isn’t until Lennon calls him out on it that he works harder and has her worker harder being in extra strengthening and workouts. During their time together they start talking about their lives, their pasts and spending time together they start having feelings towards each other. This is of course forbidden with him being her coach and her being on scholarship at school but the two knew the risk and decided to still date. I love a good forbidden romance and I loved these characters chemistry. Lennon was exactly what Luke needed in his life at this time. She seemed to wake him up and give life back to him. Age never seemed to be an issue for them. I loved this couple and loved how their lives ended up.
This is a college, age gap, hockey romance between a coach and athlete! Add in that it’s forbidden, spicy, angsty + no third act break up - you are not going to want to miss out on this book!
Michae Marie also has a fabulous playlist for readers who want to add a little something extra to their reading experience.
When Luke Holloway had a career ending injury the last thing on his mind was coaching ice hockey. What will he do when his mom's dear friend offers him an opportunity to stay connected to the sport that he loves?
Lennon "Killer" Kilcrease has potential to be something great if she can just stop overthinking when she plays. Maybe the new coach will be able to figure out her weaknesses and help her level-up her game.
This story takes "all is fair in love and hockey" to a whole new level in a story that breaks the cardinal rule. No fraternization between players and coaches.
Luke and Lennon have everything to lose if they break the rule. For two people about to discover love in the most unexpected place their happy-ever-after has a warning list a mile long.
Thank you to the author and The Author Agency for an advance reader copy for an honest and fair review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁/𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀: Scroll down if you want to know....
This was an interesting book. Our goalie Luke was a top player in the NHL until he suffered an injury that ended his career. Then Luke became complacent and withdrawn. He seems to just exist with no highs or lows. He is recruited to be an assistant coach for a women’s hockey team who made it to the final four. The senior player Lennon is a goalie and she believes they lost year because of her. Lennon desperately wants to be a better player and when she first see Luke she is so excited. However, Luke is so checked out that he is oblivious to Lennon’s needs or desires. In fact he appears to be downright bored watching them practice. This book really stumped me. I guess it’s so hard to believe that a man who was so take charge and on top of the world would let life kick him and just fall down and lay there. However, as we get to know these two we see how they give the other something they need or were missing. This is a slow burn. The story is interesting but it’s more of a story of a man redeeming himself and a woman coming into her own. The romance was secondary to the story in my opinion. But I enjoyed the story. I loved the characters, Lennon was a tough girl who had a lot on her plate but she never gave in and constantly strived for more, making Luke realize that he needed to be someone who could compliment her.
Lennon Kilcrease, aka Killer, is a very talented goalie and a senior at college. After losing the championship last season, she is determined to win this time around and finish her college years with a Frozen Four win. She deals with a lot of responsibilities and has the weight of the world on her shoulders. Luke is a former NHL goalie wo was victim of a terrible accident on the ice that ended his career. He is depressed and doesn’t care about anything anymore. When he is offered a coaching job with a women’s hockey team, he doesn’t show any interest in helping the team’s goalies to improve. But then he meets Lennon, a force to be reckoned with and doesn’t put up with his attitude. After realising her talent and her determination, he decides to coach her for real. Their attraction is instant but also forbidden. They fight it, but a true connection can’ be denied and they have to keep everything a secret, which is sometimes difficult. Their inner conflicts and the weight of their relationship and how people will perceive put a strain on both. Michae Marie writes a beautiful love story that showcases the character’s vulnerabilities, the strength of love and its emotional intensity. Thank you for this ARC.
The MMC, Luke, A goalie that had a career ending injury when his helmet fell off mid game. At the beginning of the book, he is wandering and aimless, only taking a goalie coaching job as a favor to his deceased mother‘s friend and the FMC, Lennon, A young senior, who is a goalie on her college team and who blames herself for not winning their final game her junior year.
When this book starts out Luke isn’t really taking his job seriously looking at his phone or tuning out just plain sleeping and it isn’t until she confront him and tell him she’s willing to do the work that he starts taking it somewhat seriously by having her do extra practices and workout sessions to increase her stamina. Which put a spark in him again!
In conclusion, the story is on the softer sweeter side. I really enjoyed the MMC Luke’s progression emotionally and I loved how while the coach/athlete is forbidden the romance or any drama in the romance, never really leaked over it to the hockey side she still expected him as a coach that she could learn from above any petty dramas, which was enjoyable to read.
Full Disclosure this was a Arc (free) I received from the @theauthor.agency and Review Contains light spoilers but nothing big..
I really enjoyed this story! I love a good forbidden, age gap, coach/athlete story and this one did not disappoint!
Lennon is a senior in college with hopes of winning the big championship at the end of the year. Luke is an Ex- NHL goalie who has lost his way and his spark after an accident that ended his career. When given a chance to coach the girls hockey team Luke takes it, not expecting much from it. Lennon wants the guidance Luke could give her…if only he’d stop being grumpy and actually care enough to do it.
Between early morning work outs, intense practices and moments of conversations these two find a commonality of being goalies, having dreams and being able to open up and talk about life with each other. From there, a love grows that ultimately has to be tested: Luke losing his job or losing his girl. Which is more important?
Overall, this story was easy to read, a slow burn with some angst parts thrown in and kept me entertained. I love hockey so it was easy enough to understand the terms. I love how Luke knew at the end what choices he had to make and how Lennon brought out everything he had been missing.
