Another fantastic romance from Jodi
I've loved every one of the Chicago Thunder romances, but this one's special even in such an excellent series.
The ADHD neurodivergent rep is superb without ever making Elliot seem like a characterisation way his disordered thoughts affect his life is treated with such care.
And Hunter, our widower Fire Dept Lieutenant is the perfect partner for him because he truly sees and appreciates him for who he is, not who he should be.
Late diagnosis neurodiversity brings its own unique challenges and they're dealt with here in such a caring way that, while your heart is breaking for Elliot's struggles, you're also cheering him on as he boldly fights to live his life without compromise.
Everything about this book worked for me, the slow build up of the friendship between Hunter and Elliot, the way they each approached discussions about the baggage they had, and the powerful support they gave each other.

The ideal person in the ideal circumstances. Hunter gives lessons on how to act and be good for a person with Elliot's ADHD/ Neuro divergence. Hunter is a care taker by nature and shows how to make a relationship work and how understanding you have to be. Add in the falling in love, difficult past and a little drama and spice and you have a well rounded love story for the cutest heart that is Elliot.

Oh my goodness, Jodi, you have made my heart very happy.
Elliott Olsen is the Chicago Thunder’s starting goaltender and thrives off the energy of playing in the NHL. He loves Blaine (his twin brother) and his teammates fiercely, but doesn’t have his someone special to love him back.
In private he struggles with anxiety and panic attacks. He wants to find someone who will love him for him.
Lieutenant Hunter Bowen works for the Chicago Fire Department on engine 3. For years he was a navy SEAL, while he was serving he was made a widower, when his husband Duncan died. Hunter never wants to go through that again, and loose someone who means the world to him, so it is easier to stay single. That is until he meets Elliott.
Growing up Elliott thought he was unloveable, when people gravitated more towards his twin Blaine rather than him. He has low self-esteem and doubts everything he does. Hunter also struggles with falling for Elliott as he couldn't bare history repeating itself.
Jodi Oliver has written pure perfection in this the fifth book in the Chicago Thunder series.
Elliott is everything I knew he would be, he needed to be loved by someone incredibly special. He has the biggest, most tender heart, with so much love to give, and he needs someone to make him believe how wonderful he is.
Hunter could well be my new book boyfriend. He is everything Elliott needed and more. He is loyal, loving and so understanding when it comes to Elliott.
Jodi’s writing is first class, and the love that emanates off the page shows how amazing she is as an author. I cried and sighed such happy tears.
Walt is a fabulous side character with love and support as well as being snarky towards Hunter.
Elliott is one of a kind and he has finally had his remarkable and extraordinary story, he was just waiting for Hunter.

I have been given an ARC for my fair and honest review … and honestly, I loved it. I am one of the many who have been waiting for Elliott’s book for ages (feels like) and this did not disappoint. As someone who received an ADHD diagnosis late in life, I really related to the way Elliott handled his. It’s not a surprise, but it answers questions. But the ‘would it have made a difference’ question it presents was harder for me than the diagnosis. Because, as Hunter says, of course it would have. But living in the past isn’t good. Take what you’ve learned and apply it moving forward. Looking forward to more from this author!

Jodi Oliver never disappoints. I have been waiting for Elliot’s book since I first read Trade Deadline and my hopes were high and I was FAR FROM let down here. I love Elliot so much and he is so relatable in so many ways for me. I feel like I related to this book so much because Hunter is exactly like my real life partner and I am a lot like Elliot. To have someone love you truly unconditionally and make you feel like you are worthy of love and worthy of patience and understanding is something that is so incredibly beautiful. Needless to say, I adore Hunter and the way he is with Elliot. So kind, patient, considerate and loving. He goes above and beyond to make sure Elliot doesn’t think anything is “wrong” with him, but that he just processes things differently and it’s so beautiful to read. Also, the found family in this series is flawless and seeing the dynamic and connection between Blaine and Elliot in this book was also just very special.

I was excited to receive an ARC of Rebound Control by Jodi Oliver via the author agency. I had been wanting Elliot’s story since reading Trade Deadline, book 1 of the series, which is his twin Blaine’s story and I loved every moment of this beautiful book.
This is a hockey goalie/ fire fighter romance with mutual adoration, praise kink, neurodivergent/ADHD representation and found family.
Elliot is the Chicago Thunder’s goalie, his life has undergone some changes recently leaving him feeling vulnerable and a little lonely. This really pulled at my heart strings because he is such a beautiful character that you want to wrap up and protect. His ADHD was handled with such care and understanding.
Hunter is the local firefighter that caught our Elliot’s eye. Hunter has had traumatic past, leaving him scared to put himself out there and meet anyone. He lives with uncle Walt whom I just adored, I loved their banter, you could see how much they cared for each other.
Elliot and Hunter find themselves in each other’s orbit and they strike a tentative friendship and I loved how they are both so cautiously obsessed with each other.
Elliot really brought out Hunter’s caretaker and protective nature and he adored Elliot for exactly who he was. He was so scared to love and lose again and Elliot was there for him in every way he needed.

Anyone who comes for Elliot will have me to contend with. He is the sweetest, most loving, kind MMC who ever played hockey. The affection and vulnerability he shows with hunky firefighter, Hunter is a writing masterpiece. I had the most wonderful time as Elliot dealt with his anxieties and discovered how his neurodivergence affects his life.

First book of 2026 and I am so happy it was this one. If you are like me then you’ve been eating up this series for a while. Elliot and Hunter are just so beautiful I could cry. They have such a beautiful love story and they are so so so amazing. Elliot is the most amazing soul. Like literally a joyous person and a sweetheart and the neurodivergent representation was done in such a natural and organic way.
Hunter is the kindest human. Like truly the kindest. The both of them together are like the colour yellow. So comforting, so beautiful, and so so kind. That was true love and I loved getting to read two characters who 10000% deserve to be loved and love like this.

Elliot has held a very special place in my heart since the moment I met him in Trade Deadline. To finally get to read his happily ever after had me weeping with all the happiest of tears because this sweet baby angel deserves the world and that hunky fireman gave it to him. What I didn’t expect was to fall equally in love with Hunter, but that’s the magic of Jodi Oliver.
The neurodivergent rep in his story was also incredibly beautiful and validating.

man the Chicago Thunder own my heart and Elliot and his otters can set up camp there. What a book! I loved everything. the love story, the drama, that feeling of being left out. Hunter was perfect for Elliot and I just love this damn team so much.

It’s a 6, Elliot and Hunter were everything. Their love was gorgeous and their story was perfect. Definitely well worth the wait.

This just wasn't for me. Elliots whole personality was his ADHD- there was so little hockey, so little of anything else. Elliot also read incredibly young- whilst the actual ADHD representation was thorough and accurate, you don't get to mid 20s without some coping mechanisms!
Hunter was great, but he somehow instinctively knew how to look after Elliot and it came across like a massive maturity gap. Other than being hot and someone to look after, it didn't seem like Hunter actually liked Elliot?
Jodi Olivers writing was gorgeous as usual, but this was very much an ADHD book with very little character development - unusual for Oliver.

"Rebound Control" is the fifth book in the Chicago Thunder series. After the last one somewhat missed the mark for me, I was both excited and nervous when this ARC dropped into my inbox.
In this installment, we get Elliot and Hunter. Elliot is the twin brother of Blaine, an MMC from book one, and Hunter is the somewhat closed-off/emotionally damaged, slightly older firefighter who catches Elliot's eye. Elliot has been chaotically adorable this entire series, and that aspect of his personality shines through in his book. He has always presented as neurodiverse to me in previous books, and that is discovered and confirmed in this one. I think the neurodivergent representation is done authentically and with care, and I know a lot of people are going to see themselves in and relate to Elliot's character. Hunter is patient, caring, and understanding throughout and embraces Elliot for who he is and encourages him to be himself. Both characters have insecurities that come from events in their past, but they supported each other beautifully, and I liked that there was no miscommunication trope used here.
As with the other books in this series, this is also super low to no angst. The story moves along at a gentle pace with no real conflict and overall provides an easygoing, entertaining, warm hug of a read with good close friendship/found family vibes and a romance that slowly blooms and had a smile on my face throughout. There are a couple of spicy scenes, and what was there fit the story and didn't overshadow the characters or the romance. Overall, I think this is a great addition to this MM Sports Romance series. The neurodivergent representation was my highlight in this, and I enjoyed being back in this world with these characters. Book releases on January 9th. 🌶🌶

"Rebound Control" is the fifth book in the Chicago Thunder series. After the last one somewhat missed the mark for me, I was both excited and nervous when this ARC dropped into my inbox.
In this installment, we get Elliot and Hunter. Elliot is the twin brother of Blaine, an MMC from book one, and Hunter is the somewhat closed-off/emotionally damaged, slightly older firefighter who catches Elliot's eye. Elliot has been chaotically adorable this entire series, and that aspect of his personality shines through in his book. He has always presented as neurodiverse to me in previous books, and that is discovered and confirmed in this one. I think the neurodivergent representation is done authentically and with care, and I know a lot of people are going to see themselves in and relate to Elliot's character. Hunter is patient, caring, and understanding throughout and embraces Elliot for who he is and encourages him to be himself. Both characters have insecurities that come from events in their past, but they supported each other beautifully, and I liked that there was no miscommunication trope used here.

Oh shit. This book hit me hard. Like, stop-everything-and-stare-at-the-wall hard. I genuinely needed a hot minute before I could even think about putting words together. It came at the exact right time, during a week where everything already felt heavy. Reading Elliot and seeing so much of myself in him just… broke me open. It hurt, but it also made me feel less alone — and that combination? Yeah. That one stays with you 🖤
Elliot has been special from the very beginning of the Chicago Thunder series. I loved him almost immediately and have been waiting for his book for what feels like forever. And while I know so many readers wanted his story sooner, this was honestly the perfect way to end the series. It felt intentional. It felt earned. And it hit on such a high 🏒✨
Elliot. My sweet, soft, emotionally overwhelmed Elliot 🥺 He carries all these big feelings — feeling left behind, feeling different, being told he’s just too much, never quite fitting in. Even when surrounded by people who love him, there’s still that quiet emptiness inside him. That sense of otherness. I connected to Elliot on a level I never have with a character before. As hard as parts of this were to read, it was also deeply healing — even if it stirred up some of the same longings Elliot himself carries 💔✨
And then there’s Hunter 🖤 Kind. Dependable. Loyal. The man who truly sees Elliot beyond the walls he’s built to protect himself. Hunter carries his own pain too, and watching Elliot become the person who helps heal a part of him he didn’t even realize needed healing? Yeah. My heart was not okay 🥹
These two together? Holy fuck. Absolute endgame 😭 They fit. They balance. They show up. The way they support each other through both the good and the bad had me fully emotional. This is the kind of love that feels steady, safe, and deeply real — and I fell hard 🖤

I am a huge sucker for a firefighter or a hockey player romance story, but when you clash them together, sign me up because it’s going to be so good. I’ve loved this series from the books that I have read, so I knew this book was going to be everything for me.
I love how Jodi did the representation with Elliot in the best way possible. What I really enjoyed about this book was just how patient Hunter was with Elliot because it was so beautiful to see. The way that these two met, I just knew it was going to be so good. I thought it was so cue to how Elliot asked to sit in the fire truck… like c’mon, how adorable is that?
This book is filled with a good amount of hurt/comfort, make you feel all the feels from Elliot figuring himself out to Hunter being a widow and just going through his own stuff, and the found family in this book that you’re going to want and crave more.
I really loved how towards the end of the book that Blake did end up talking to Hunter and it was such a beautiful moment between the two of them because Blake finally let out his feelings how he just felt inadequate about his brother.
Hunter and Elliot were so perfect from their cute dates. The choosing the ice cream and the movie was adorable. I could go on and on about how this book hi all the perfect spots for me but the gift that Hunter got Elliot towards the end had to be one of my top scenes with these two. I was giggling and Ben he tried to guess what his gift was. Too adorable.
But the spice, man, these were so perfect together. Hunter knew exactly what his guy wanted and made him feel so beautiful.
I love how Elliot finally got everything he wanted. The way that Elliot got to spend certain times like Valentines Day or even have someone at his games was everything I didn’t know I needed. But what made me really love these two was how they could talk about Duncan. He was part of both of their lives and o just loved how Elliot told Hunter how he was not here to replace him but he hoped he had a special place in his heart. This story was literally the sweetest for me.

I think all the readers who have appreciated this series were keenly waiting for Elliott's HEA and Jodi Oliver did not let them down.
Since the first book (his twin's, Blaine, story) Elliott, the Chicago Thunder goalie, has stood out with his sunshine personality, his eagerness, his carefree dances, he has always been so lovely and precious and the author couldn't give him a more perfect man than Hunter.
Hunter Bowen, Lieutenant for the Chicago Fire Department, widower, former Navy Seal, is a handsome, loyal, protective, caring, thoughtful man who will be a safe space for Elliott to be himself, who will love him without expectations, letting him set the pace of their relationship.
I adored every moment they spent together and it was so good to see Elliott be free to be funny or to blurt out whatever question came to his mind. Even the moments when he's unsure or nervous, when he's worried about the new things he's been discovering about himself, Hunter is right at his side, grounding him and making him feel seen.
I also loved the buildup for the physical part of their relationship: there was no rush, no performance anxiety, just a good dose of chemistry and so much love.
Lastly I can't avoid mentioning how well done was the dead husband trope: Hunter's grief was real but not overwhelming, Duncan's memory wasn't a haunting presence, but a loving memory and I appreciate how he slowly made space in his heart for Elliott too. And Elliott, oh precious Elliott! His gesture was everything!
I loved that all the characters from the previous book were in this one too. A particular scene made me cry a little: when the players, Blaine, Zach, Jackson, Peyton and former captain Ethan, all went to Elliott to support him regarding his diagnosis. It was a very heartfelt moment.
Definitely recommended (like all the other books of this series).

Let's face it, if you've read any of the other Chicago Thunder books you probably already love Elliot Olsen.
He's the lovable Goalie with a heart of gold. And a big fan favourite.
In Rebound Control we get to see more of Elliots depth. His struggles and his anxiety and how that impacts him deep down.
He goes through the stress of being diagnosed neurodivergent in adulthood, something that is becoming more common as we understand more about the spectrum.
He also finds his special person, and the love that he had been so scared he'd never find since his brother Blaine fell in love with Alex (Trade Deadline, series book 1).
Hunter, who Elliot's had a crush on since meeting him, rescues El and helps him through a claustrophobic panic attack.
Hunter fights their attraction because he's scared of losing another loved one, but eventually realises that he's falling for Elliot and maybe needs him more than first thought.
As their relationship develops the way they are there for each other and support each other through their darker moments is just so special.
The Valentine's day scene made me smile so big and cry a little. Elliot is just so thoughtful ⚘️

I knew since Trade Deadline that Elliot’s book was going to be my favorite, and I was right. I hadn’t connected this deeply with a character in a while, and that made everything about this story hit harder for me. Elliot is one of those characters that feels painfully real and rom the very first pages, I knew this was going to be special.
Elliot feels everything so intensely. He has the softest heart, the kind that loves loudly and deeply, even when the world keeps making him feel like he doesn’t quite fit. Watching him struggle with feeling different and increasingly alone while everyone around him is paired up was quietly devastating.
Hunter, on the other hand, carries a completely different kind of weight. A widowed veteran, shaped by grief and trauma, losing someone once broke him, and the fear of feeling that pain again keeps him closed off — until Elliot walks into his life. The connection between them is immediate and undeniable.
Hunter saw Elliot from the very beginning — how pure, gentle, and precious he was — and instinctively wanted to protect him. And Elliot, in turn, gave Hunter something he never thought he’d have again: the chance to love without fear. Oh Elliot, I knew you would be my favourite from the very start and oh my gosh you were perfect!!🥹
This was absolutely beautiful. From the first few pages I was smiling and giggling out loud at how ridiculously adorable these two were. This book made me feel so giddy and joyful, it’s unparalleled.
I relate to Elliot so much, and reading about him struggling on the inside while continuing to show a happy, cheerful and carefree side to everyone else, broke my heart.
Hunter felt like this gentle-giant protector for Elliot, who helped to soothe his hurt and embrace the wonderful things that make him who he is.
The really sweet thing about this was that they both comforted and helped the other shine, Elliot is just as much of a support to Hunter, showing him that he’s allowed to have love in his life.
The love they have is actually palpable😭
This was my most anticipated read for the year and I was so overjoyed with it. I’m sad this series is finished because it’s so near and dear to my heart, but I know I will adore anything Jodi writes next🧡

Oh Elliot, I knew you would be my favourite from the very start and oh my gosh you were perfect!!🥹
This was absolutely beautiful. From the first few pages I was smiling and giggling out loud at how ridiculously adorable these two were. This book made me feel so giddy and joyful, it’s unparalleled.
I relate to Elliot so much, and reading about him struggling on the inside while continuing to show a happy, cheerful and carefree side to everyone else, broke my heart.
Hunter felt like this gentle-giant protector for Elliot, who helped to soothe his hurt and embrace the wonderful things that make him who he is.
The really sweet thing about this was that they both comforted and helped the other shine, Elliot is just as much of a support to Hunter, showing him that he’s allowed to have love in his life.
The love they have is actually palpable😭
This was my most anticipated read for the year and I was so overjoyed with it. I’m sad this series is finished because it’s so near and dear to my heart, but I know I will adore anything Jodi writes next🧡

This was so cute!! I loved Elliot and Hunter! Elliot was so chaoticly adorable and Hunter was so caring and patient. Both of these men had insecurities stemming from things that had taken place in their past, Hunter losing his husband and blaming himself and Elliot finding it hard to feel accepted for who his is by others but together they were able to support one another in a way that dulled these feelings and it was nice to see. I loved how Elliot’s mind worked and although he struggled at times it was great seeing what he enjoyed and cared about. Hunter was the perfect balance to Elliot. He saw him for who he was and never tried to change him. He was understanding, accepting and observant of Elliot’s needs and feelings. There were so many sweet moments like Valentine’s Day, the zoo, the night at the theater and going for a drive because neither of them could sleep. The family both blood and found is great and the books in this series keep my attention from start to finish!

Amazing ADHD rep
This is an absolutely adorable opposites attract, love-after-loss romance with an NHL goaltender and a firefighter, but it is also a beautiful, pull at the heartstrings, depiction of being undiagnosed with ADHD and the impact that has on mental health. Plus being loved exactly as you are, with no masking.

I was waiting for Elliot’s book since Blaine’s story and for sure that was everything I wanted. Elliot is just this precious person you want to support and cuddle. The deep bond between the brothers, with the teammates and the one Elliot develops with Hunter are just amazing. Also, Elliot has this side of him that is so cute, he’s just so sweet for all things regarding Hunter's previous husband, and it’s so beautiful, thoughtful.
This story was filed with emotions, trauma, understanding of oneself and just the perfect ending for this series - Elliot and Hunter deserve their happy ending and they’re just made to be with each other.

Omg Elliott! My sweet, sweet Elliott! He is literal perfection in human form! From his huge heart, to his boundless energy, and every quirk! I love him so much! And Hunter. My heart just broke for him. So much pain in his life. But Elliot's shine was bright enough to pull him out of the darkness.
I LOVE this series and Jodi Oliver. Her ability to write characters that just jump off the page and take hold is amazing and thus book just proves that! Seriously, there are emotional support otters!

This is the 5th book in this impressive series, and this is Elliot and Hunter’s story.
Elliott is a hockey goalie, who is left feeling alone when those around him are falling in love, while Hunter is a widower, who has sworn off love. When Hunter needed a fresh start, he moves across country after leaving the military. When Elliot is trapped in an elevator, it is firefighter Hunter who comes to the rescue. Both characters are broken in their own ways, but they cannot deny the attraction between them.
This is a well written easy to read story, with found family, friendships, emotions, loss, grief, humour, taking chances, healing, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining sports romance.
I look forward to reading more from this author whose work I recommend.

My heart is so happy. I adored Elliot in previous books, and this did more than deliver.
He is so damn sweet and loveable. He feels big feelings and is completely adorable. Definition of a golden retriever.
Hunter. Stoic and strong. Kind and understanding. While gruff on the outside, our firefighter lieutenant is infatuated with sweet Elliot. As he should be.
I loved their relationship, and how Hunter became a space space which allowed Elliot to be so unapologetic about his excitement, and later found out his ADHD.
Well worth the wait, and I’m so happy Elliot got his partner and his happily ever after.
