I have followed Kimberly Snyder since her first book The Beauty Detox Solution. When I read that book, it honest-to-God changed my life. I was pregnant with my second child–so, not a good time for radical dietary changes–but I did manage to make a few adjustments to my diet that helped me legitimately feel better on a day-to-day basis. For example, I ate less dairy, I ate fruit on an empty stomach, I made sure to eat veggies before each meal, and I upped my green vegetable intake considerably. Because of her recommendations, my last two pregnancies were heartburn-free!

Despite the fact that Snyder’s second book, The Beauty Detox Foods, didn’t really wow me, I was very eager to read her third book, The Beauty Detox Power. I didn’t know what to expect, honestly. Would it be more of the same? Could she really add anything new to the conversation she started in The Beauty Detox Solution?

Well, within the first few pages of this book, I knew it was something different, something special even. This book is much more personal than her other two. She still follows the same format of sharing client stories throughout in order to illustrate her points, yes. But she also adds a few of her own–stories about struggling to fit in, about feeling neglected and misunderstood, and about how she ultimately was able to find her way to optimum mental, physical, and emotional health. I think there can be a tendency, when you look at her, to think, “Oh, this woman has it all figured out, and she probably always has.” But Snyder proves that that hasn’t been the case. She has had to find her way just like the rest of us. I appreciated her willingness to share that, and it helped me stay open to her message.

And her message is powerful! There is so much good information here. The book is divided into six sections called Power Alignment Shifts. Each section is broken up into two or more chapters. Each Power Alignment Shift section has a fancy subtitle, but, basically, the sections talk about:

1) thinking about your health holistically
2) recognizing and then harnessing the power of your thoughts
3) dealing with food cravings
4) understanding your body’s chakras
5) understanding the importance of healthy relationships
6) recipes

I especially enjoyed the first and fourth sections. I so loved how she started this book off with an honest discussion of what it means to be healthy. It is so easy to get caught up in counting calories and obsessing–OBSESSING!–over every little nutrient or carb or fat or how much in, how much out. But, in the end, we are just using food as yet another means to be cruel to ourselves. It’s sad. And completely counterproductive. I couldn’t agree more with Snyder when she says, “If you love your body and nourish it from a place of love, instead of just plotting and planning how to make it skinnier, your body will respond with an increased amount of vitality, energy, and health…and you’ll actually realize far superior–and sustainable–results with your weight and beauty.”

I will also add that Snyder’s breakdown of the chakras is one of the most simple, straightforward, yet informative explanations I’ve encountered. It was very well done, and I know I’m going to be referencing that section of the book a lot.

I only have two complaints. First, Snyder’s face is ALL OVER this book. Truly, she is everywhere. I finally broke down and counted all of her selfies; there are 48 pictures of her in a 300-page book–50 if you count the front and back cover. So that averages out to be a smiling Snyder every six pages. It all got to be a bit…much. And the worst part is that all the headshots were a distraction from her very good message.

Second, while I loved that she had so many footnotes throughout the book, when I went to look more closely at her sources, I only found this message at the back: “A full list of references used in the writing of this book can be found at [her website].” Well, if you go to the website, there is no clear path to finding the references. Plus, you are bombarded immediately with pop-up after pop-up. I don’t know if the book I received doesn’t have references because I received an advance copy, but I really wish this aspect of the book had been more transparent.

Regardless, I thought The Beauty Detox Power, overall, was wonderful. Snyder packed so much information into this book–information that really added something powerful, insightful, and unique to the oft-discussed topic of health. She has motivated me to think about my body and my mind differently, and I really think I will be a better, healthier person because of it.

This book is years of therapy condensed into a beautiful read. Kimberly states that weight and our relationship with food are much more than a numbers game-there is a lot of emotion there. After reading this, I can easily see why I turned to some food for comfort (sugar!) or wanted to crunch down on some chips at the end of a long day. I feel SO healed after reading this I can't even tell you. I also love the details she goes into about each chakra and it's correlation to food and our lives. I learned a ton. If you have ever struggled to lose or gain weight, this book is for you.

This book is about loving yourself and repeatedly saying affirmations and not THINKING anything bad about your body…while in the process of losing weight. According to the author, that’s how you’ll keep the weight off for good. It starts with what you say to yourself-not what you eat or how much you exercise, even though that plays a huge factor too. This book is coming from a Holistic point of view..yoga, chakras, releasing anger, sadness, etc. Let go of these negative feelings and thoughts, and you’ll be Aligned to keeping the weight off forever. She doesn’t believe in being fixated with numbers, the scale, calorie counting because it’s Toxic…basically Ditch all of that! Be in Tune with how your body FEELS.

I love how there’s recipes provided, and she shares other clients stories with their emotional weight loss battles. This book teaches you how to Glow up from within….she basically wants her readers to TRY and cut out meat all together (vegetarian life) and eat Whole Foods only. I agree…to a healthier new lifestyle! Pick this book up if you’re open to changing for the better not just physically but mentally and emotionally. This book was refreshing. Good vibes only. 🌿🌱🍏🥦🥒

"True power is when you connect to the wholeness that is you, and there is synergy between the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of your being, and complete alignment between your thoughts, core beliefs, words, and actions. When this happens, you embrace the ability to surpass any limitations you may have put on yourself in the past. You become in touch with your pure, creative power, and you can create anything you want."

"Your thoughts are essential to your success."

"Forget all of your ideas about the body - It's this way and it's that way, and just be present with any area of it, this present body as permeated with limitless space. Drenched in freedom." - The Radiance Sutras, translated by Lorin Roche

"Change originates and sustains from you and your power."

"What you think and how you feel impact your weight and how you look, as well as your overall vitality."

"True power originates in you. It is the result of unity within."

"Shift your focus to feeling your strength or your overall energy, which is much more empowering. Your power is in your wholeness."

"You are truly complete And you are perfect just as you are."

"The thoughts we feed ourselves directly influence how we look."

"The more naturally you eat, the more beautiful, slim, and healthy you will become."

"When you want to protect yourself from fear, insecurity, uncertainty, imbalance, hurt or abuse, or create more boundaries around you to feel protected or "insulated" from something, fat can appear as the physical manifestation of the protection you're seeking. If you cling to negative energies, including stress, anger, jealousy, resentment, or hatred in your mind and do not process them or release them properly, they can become stuck matter. And stuck, stagnant, energetic matter can manifest as excess weight. Repressed feelings are energy too. If they are not dealt with, they can be pushed down and held in your fat cells. If you are resistant to letting go, forgiving, or moving on from something, stuck energy can manifest as matter, as fat."

"What might I be trying to protect myself from?"

"Your body absorbs and reacts to all your internal thoughts, because there is a constant communication exchange between your inner self and your body. The body is highly intelligent, highly responsive, pliable, and adaptable. Your thoughts become part of the sculpting process; they are materials that your body uses to create. Positive thoughts can be equally as powerful as the negative ones we just discussed. Your thoughts not only affect your body but also shape your body."

"Stop with the abusive self-talk right now and honor the powerful creative intelligence of your body. It is more powerful than anything you can get from the outside. Realize you have the power to be fit and happy."

"If you tell yourself and others around you that you are fat, whether it's in a casual conversation, silently to yourself in front of the mirror or in quiet mutterings, remember, you are actively creating your outward form. Repeated thoughts become things."

Affirmations: "It's easy for me to stay fit and healthy."

"If you engage routinely in self-criticism, you must confront the deep-seated negative feelings that you have internalized, or these thoughts may continue to show up in a physical form that others can see: as visible pimples and blemishes right on your face, which is front and center to the world. The body, including the skin, reflects your internal beliefs and thoughts."

-Positive thoughts and words about body and self.
-Focus on image of ideal body, and the strength you'll feel when you have it.
-Let go of grudges, unfairness, resentments.

"By being present as we meditate and observing thoughts, emotions, sensations, and other phenomena within us, we are actually able to shift and transform ourselves. The same is true when it comes to "observing" affirmations daily and repeating them."

"Deep down, perhaps you are withholding because in your heart of hearts you do not feel you are good enough or smart enough. But when you do believe you are good enough, your body will respond with more vitality and focused energy to create the changes you want. Affirmations are an aid to get you there."
"It is easy for me to maintain the trim, fit body that I want."
"I make great whole-food choices to support my body and health."
"I am powerful and beautiful."
"I am successful in all my endeavors."
"I deserve success."
"I am present."
"I love and accept you exactly as you are."
"I am fit and trim."
"Affirm what you want as if you have it now, and make sure that your affirmations generate authentic enthusiasm."
"I have unlimited power to create what I want."
"Affirmations are a way of saying yes to your true nature and essence."

-Journal.
-Affirmations.

"When you identify with ego-based labels, you limit your own power. You constantly try to improve or defend those labels, which may seem safe but in reality are completely limiting. Adherence to labels is a form of disembodiment, which creates weakness, because it separates you from the whole. Labels and labeling disempower you, prevent you from creating the body and life that you desire."

"You don't have to feel inferior or superior to anyone."

"Your body is not what you authentically and completely are, but it does reflect your deepest thoughts and beliefs. It is when you put your ego aside and tap into your true power that you'll be able to shape your body as you desire."

Amazing

I took my time reading this book. Having read other lifestyle books in the past, I was expecting the usual motivational and positive affirmations (e.g. mind over matter, “I am worth it”). I was struck by how unique the approach was in this book. I found it so interesting how she linked chakras to food and beauty habits and how important balance and alignment is. I always knew that our minds, bodies, and souls were somewhat connected but Kimberly spelled out in such an easily digestible (no pun intended) way that I no longer look at my relationship with food in the same way. I think this is would be an insightful read to just about everyone, but especially to those who are prone to binge-eating, yo-yo eating, or who don’t understand why they can’t seem to limit their cheat meals because of how strong their cravings can get at times. Forever grateful to the beautiful Kimberly Snyder.

This is my third Kimberly Snyder Beauty Detox book. Sadly, I suffer some mistrust of her amazing ability to market herself and her lifestyle, of course making bundles of money via her books and products; however, I do enjoy feeling healthy and being motivated to eat well. Every recipe I've tried has been delicious and fairly easy to make. Her Glowing Green Smoothie has become a staple in my diet. I'm a fan! I just wish the niggling little voice in the back of my head would stop whispering "Madison Avenue" and shut up.

This is one of the best books I've ever read! I Iove Snyder's holistic approach to beauty and health. She combines both Eastern and Western philosophies in her practices, which I feel is so important. Kimberly Snyder is my health and beauty guru! I highly recommend this book to every single person! It is THAT important!

If you have explored self help/spiritual development type books before, this won’t have a lot of new information for you. But I did appreciate that it had some helpful reminders (affirmations, meditation, etc.) and a focus on plant-based recipes, which I am trying to incorporate more of in my diet. The information on how food relates to the chakras is interesting. The recipes are also organized by chakra, which is different. It can make it harder to find a recipe if you are looking for a specific type (salad vs soup, etc). A few of the recipes are very simplistic (ex: a salad recipe with purple cabbage, cucumber, carrot, and celery in top of arugula with dressing) but there are a number I look forward to trying.

The author is not a Registered Dietitian, so keep that in mind when she states nutrition information.

It's a pretty book. I bought it at a super deep discount. I knew that with the word detox in the title it might be filled with nonsense.

It's a beautifully designed book with great art direction.

I do like the aspects of detoxing our thoughts and emotions.

I would buy on Kindle is deeply discounted.

I read this on a recommendation & was skeptical from the cover that it would be just another diet book. But it isn't. It's more about the things that will support you in getting healthy, and I love the focus on yoga, affirmations, dealing with cravings and the psychological aspects. Plus a reminder about food combining. Lots of really good information in here!

When I picked this up, I thought I was getting a diet detox book, but it is so much more than that. It goes beyond the food tips by providing explanations about why food affects us in different ways, integrating principles for spiritual, emotional, and mental health, which must be sorted out before our relationships with certain foods can be adequately addressed.

~ this book was a Review Copy

The first thing that struck me when I picked up this book and began scanning through it was that it was gorgeous. Really. Beautiful, expensive photographs (of people .AND. food), glossy pages, well done layout. The publisher obviously spent a lot of time and money on this book.

The next thing that struck me was that there was a delightful variety of recipes. Simple ones like the Kale Chips and more elaborate and time consuming recipes, like the Spicy Tempeh and Veggie Cabbage Rolls. Most do not have hard to find ingredients, but it was nice to find that where there was something like Coconut Nectar, there was also a more familiar alternative suggested. In this case, Maple Syrup.

What I didn't know until I read this book was that the author has a huge following. And I think that explains why there are so many pictures of the author in this book. Her readers have 'connected' with her through her social media pages and previous books and they want to see more of her because they feel like they know her.

For people like me who haven't previously connected with the author, the frequency of the pictures might seem strange. So heads up. Personally it didn't bother me.

As far as content I thought the writing was good and very accessible. The format is very much like you find in newer Health Books. There are client stories and tales of personal struggle. I think most people find these inspirational.

Philosophically, Ms. Snyder falls into the holistic approach, by which I mean that she believes in the mind-body connection. Part of the way she expresses that is by incorporating an Indian system, which includes discussions of chakras and harnessing the power of your thoughts.

I found this to be a fun read and I can't wait to try more of the recipes. There were parts I skimmed over since I've not yet hit fan-girl status, but overall I thought this was a lovely book with some ideas that it was worth digesting and incorporating.

I must admit, I tend to be a skeptic with books like these. I take what I can from them, but often find them a bit too "woo-woo" or self-helpy for my taste.

The Beauty Detox Power offers advice on emotional balance, spiritual balance, and mental balance in relation to your food choices. There were a few things I liked about this book:

--Emphasis on not limiting your diet, but enhancing it with good-for-you foods.
--Honest writing about eating disorders and emotional eating
--A whole bunch of recipes (which I haven't tried)
--The chakra chapter, which was all new info to me.

There was a fair amount that turned me off, though. I found myself skipping through the chapters to look for Kimberly Snyder's client's stories, instead of her personal narration. I found her voice to be a bit pretentious-- I tend to go for a more down-to-earth, goofy voice, but that's just me. There was a fair amount of repetition in subject matter, and a lot of repetition about this one "magic" smoothie she drinks a ridiculous amount of every day (I am not convinced, obviously, but I will try it).

On the whole, this would be a good book for someone who is actively looking to connect their mind and body in their search for weight loss. I think Snyder's philosophy about food is spot on, and for those of us who actively hate being told what to do, this is a resource that is about gradual, mental progress, not cutting out food groups.

I RECEIVED THIS BOOK FROM THE PUBLISHER IN EXCHANGE FOR MY HONEST REVIEW.

I just got this book last night and as I flipped through it yesterday and today, I got so excited I had to go online and shout to the world about it! I have been applying Snyder's principles for over a month since I read her first book, The Beauty Detox Solution. I have also been doing yoga regularly for 4 months, and much of what Snyder recommends fits into a yogi lifestyle. I was so thrilled to see that she spent the first half of this book talking about shifts in thinking-- many of the shifts that yogis undergo through their journey-- and that she organized the last half of the book around the chakras! I had already been working on healing through chakras; how amazing that her book is centered on this-- but through food. She even has recipes for every chakra, and they look really tasty! These books are really enriching my life and I recommend them to anyone who wants to improve their life all around. It's not just about food and beauty; it's about unveiling the beauty of the soul.

I learned a lot from this book. I especially appreciated the information on the psyche behind why we crave the types of foods we do. I also liked being reminded about the importance of affirmations regarding my diet and well-being. I use affirmations for my business goals but had overlooked my whole self! Overall, the information has jump started me back on the daily "glowing green smoothie" routine and has taught me how to love my body in its present state and be more forgiving of myself if I eat a piece of bread or have a cookie one day. :) Thanks, Kimberly!

I felt uncomfortable reading this due to feeling as though I was usurping something that I had absolutely no claim to. I have no background or training in the Hindu religion/culture, so all of this talk about which foods and exercises will align my chakras felt like the definition of ‘appropriation’.

Am I being too squeamish and ignoring the idea of embracing multiculturalism – or am I on the money about turning someone’s religion into someone else’s Lelulemon purchase?

I wanted to like this book more or get more out of it. think there is some valuable information in here but for some reason it comes off pretentious and judgy. We are not all vegan yogis, though I aspire to be healthier and closer to that. I think it's a process and we shouldn't judge those who are not there yet. Or people should not believe they are superior because they are healthier.

I discovered Kimberly Snyder during her campaign with Burt's Bees, of all things. And enjoyed her approached in this book. That weight loss and beauty is more than just diet but truly encompasses mind, body, spirit, and soul. Overall a little too militant too follow easily without a quick change of lifestyle - but something to aspire to.

Lovely photo graphs, well written advice and facts about emotional well-being. My only real criticism is that some of the celeb reviews mentioned that the recipes were quick and easy for them. Something tells me those celebs have chefs chopping up veggies and soaking grains and all that. A person who works all the time will not always be able to make these recipes.
