Tara Collins is an ambitious young lawyer who wants to change the world. She owns a successful law firm in Oakland, California, and has dedicated her life to helping families--especially women and children--navigate the complex legal system.
During the past year, Tara helped her best friend, Ella Thornton, through a difficult period of her life. In appreciation, Ella surprises Tara with a remarkable gift: a $700,000 check to fund pro bono work. Tara's mind surges with ideas for how to use the money, and decides to establish non-profit foundation that is focused on providing family law services to those in need. She feels enormous responsibility for its success because of Ella's friendship.
After several early wins, The Foundation accepts an unusual case about a terrified girl who has nowhere to turn. The case confronts Tara's deepest beliefs about human nature, reveals a painful family secret and takes her passion for helping the underdog to a level she never could have imagined. Why is Tara so driven to help the less fortunate? What does she learn about human nature that changes her forever?
The Foundation is a gripping tale that explores the impact of choices we make in our lives, and it immerses you into a world of darkness and shadows, while offering a glimpse of hope that sometimes one person can make a difference.
*This novel is for mature audiences. It contains violence, language and sexual situations that may offend some readers.
After a rewarding business career in healthcare, Roberta R. Carr became a full-time writer. She enjoys creating slice-of-life stories that will entertain you, as well as stir new thoughts. Her travel experiences usually weave their way into the plots.
While not a fun, feel-good read, The Foundation is an excellent example of showing the consequences in the breakdown of society and family life. Carr is adept at combining the good intentions of her heroine with the evil that lurks in a world of sex trafficking. She takes an unpleasant subject and makes it a very thought provoking read. Good job Roberta R. Carr.
Tara a lawyer was giving some money from a friend and she decided she was going to open a place called The Foundation. It was to help woman who were abused or in trouble in their lives. She took on a case with a beaten up young girl named Ashlee. Her and her friend Leah got involved with a man who was using them for prostitutes & sex trafficking purposes . Leah went with it Ashlee refused and got beat up real bad and ended up in the hospital. Tara took her as her first Foundation client. Tara and Ashlee become very close. Ashlee was scared for her life. Tara went a bit to far to help find the men who did this to her and put herself in danger also.
The book was excellent! Great writing, characters and plot, the book had it all. The book made me uncomfortable many times. The theme is human trafficking and helping one girl at a time.
