LOL Volume 1 - Anthology of Brand-new Romantic Comedy Stories from Bestselling Authors. Romance books with humor and a variety of heat levels, from sweet to spicy. And best of all, NO CLIFFHANGERS!
This collection has some of my favorite authors in it: Blair Babylon, Mimi Strong, and Cassia Leo to name a few. For now, this review is based on Billionaires in Disguise: Charley - An Extravagant Proposal, by Blair Babylon. I have to say it was quite good. Not exactly what I was expecting as part of the BID series, but very entertaining.
Charly and Ford have been dating for 5 years now and she is MORE than ready for him to put a ring on her finger. When he makes plans for them to go to Paris, she is unaware that he wants them to crash a Royal wedding, but she goes along with the idea. She is hoping that this will be the trip where he will finally propose to her.
I don't want to give away too many spoilers, but the scene at the Eiffel Tower is awesome! Even though he doesn't propose to her, she decides that she can't walk away from him as she had been planning on doing. Take it from me, this is a short read and very interesting. Well worth the time and money!
**Complimentary Copy provided by Author for an honest review.**
As the title suggest these are light and short stories based in some cases on established series and arcs, using existing characters or weaving characters from previous books into a new story.
For example Charley's arc by Blair Babylon, revolves in part around Wulf's sisters wedding in Paris and of course Rae and others are enmeshed into this story. This like others presented here is of a lighter tone than some of the other arcs in the series, but still enjoyable and brings previously loved characters back into our minds if only for a short visit.
A free advanced copy of the ebook was given to me by the publisher for review, but has in no way influenced this review.
I received a copy of this anthology for Julia Kent's Christmas Shopping for a billionaire. The story wet my appetite for more about Shannon and Declan. It was cute and appropriately laugh out loud funny. The perfect combination of slap stick, real life, and zany, with some steamy send thrown in. I also decided to read Love in Tune by Caitie Quinn and now I have to go back and read the first three books of her Brew Ha Ha series. I haven't finished all the stories yet, but already a few of my favorites are Kiss Me Again by Juliete Spenser and The Real Deal by Elle Casey.
*I was given a complementary ARC and in return I am leaving an honest review*
Well my TBR list just grew enormously! Well done Ladies :-)
The stories might be short but they get you hooked just as fast. This Anthology contained some of my favorite authors that I already loved dearly, as well as a few I have never had the pleasure of reading any of their work. I loved how each story was just enough to show you what the author was capable of and how great they were. I look forward to reading more from every single author that was apart of this project.
This was pretty good value with a good mix of short stories. They were all supposed to be standalone stories, but some of the ones that were part of a series had lots of characters that were difficult to get to know in a short story. My favourite one was the NM Silber story, but there were a couple of others that I liked and a couple I cba to finish. Most were funny, a couple were hot, they were all sweet. Good if that's what you're in the mood for.
This anthology is very much a mixed bag - but the bulk of the stories are either fun comic reads, or enjoyable light dramas with humorous elements. I think my biggest complaint is its curation - or rather, its lack thereof, as only a few of the stories actually fit the premise of "romantic comedy".
There's also such a preponderance of stories about rockers that I suspect there was a Rock 'N' Roll Romance collection that didn't quite come together, and got repurposed as "romantic comedy". Since there are few sub-genres I dislike more than "Rocker Romances", that made parts of this book a real slog for me. Most of the individual stories range from okay to excellent, so it's not a huge complaint, but I hoped for more laughs - and less Spoiled Rich Rockers Behaving Badly.
I think a lot of us got this collection because one of our favorite authors had a story in it. In my case it's N.M. Silber, continuing her popular "Lawyers In Love" comedy/erotic romance series with the novelette "Legal-I-Tease", about the honeymoon of sarcastic Jewish Prosecuting Attorney Adam Roth and his bride, Jewish Erotic Novelist turned Prosecutor Lily Adler Roth. Set in Rio and full of comic mishaps before Adam and Lily finally consummate their marriage (Lily discovers "spicy" in Brazil's a LOT hotter than "spicy" in Philadelphia, and *Caipirinhas* may be sweet and go down easy but they're also loaded with alcohol!), the story's cute and fun for fans of N.M. Silber's characters, and shifting locales from Philadelphia to Rio de Janeiro lets Lily experience for the first time what it means to be a known successful author. However, I'm a fan of Nadine's and buy all her books as soon as they come out - so I'm not sure how enjoyable this story will be for those who don't already know the characters, or how the author's recent career mirrors Lily's. Still, you should by all means read it - and anything else Nadine writes, because she's a lot of fun!
The book doesn't start with Nadine's story, though - it opens with one of Mimi Strong's "Peaches Malone" stories, "The Return of Ursula". This is my first experience with Ms. Strong's writing - and I have the feeling I wandered into the middle of much longer story, and was expected to know what was going on and who the characters were in relation to each other. If I were a fan of this series I might have liked it a lot more than I did - as it was I thought Peaches was a brat, and her new husband Dalton didn't even seem to like her that much! So very much a YMMV....
Elle Casey's "The Real Deal", where a divorced Miami advice columnist writes back an online dating site query for a "pretend fiancée" to go to Paris, stands very nicely on its own in contrast. Melissa and Antoine are an appealing Not-Really-a-Couple, where Melissa assumes handsome and charming Antoine's reason for needing a date is because he's gay, so she's relaxed and open in a way she never would be with a handsome guy she thought was interested in her, and.... :)
Victoria Wessex's "Handcuffed to the Stockbroker" surprised me just a little. Alice, a female protester of an Occupy Wall Street type group, handcuffs herself to Wall Street financier Mason - and for most of the story, you assume you're getting strong and reasonable businessman versus spoiled-brat (but adorable) "protester". The ending, though, shows a lot more nuance than you'd expect, as the two realize they can both learn from each other - and come to love each other enough to try.
Cassia Leo's "Edible: The Sex Tape" - look, I've already said I don't like romances with rock stars, or bikers, or rich abusive assholes who only fall for dishrags and professional victims (Paging Christian Gray!). So this story of a smug, arrogant DJ just out of a two-year prison term, discovering his new agent is the ex-girlfriend he made a series of sex tapes with who's now under a new name? And it's clear he hasn't learned a fucking thing? I'm not likely to enjoy it at all - and I didn't. OTOH, if you happen to like those things, you may enjoy this story - so have at it.
"Can't Stop Wanting You" by Gretchen Galway is a welcome change, if a bit more dramatic than you'd expect from a comedy-romance collection. Jody and Simon have...a history, having been childhood friends turned mortal enemies as teens when he broke up with a friend of hers, and she tried to commit suicide - for which she's never forgiven him. Now an adult chemist in San Francisco living with her grandmother (to help out when Grandma needs it, though Jody'd never admit that to anyone!), Jody's horrified when Simon, now an attorney, rents out the spare room in her Grandma's house. Grandma rightly picks up that a large part of Jody's antipathy for Simon is based on her guilt over having had feelings for him herself while he was dating her friend - and it comes out later that he reason he seemingly abandoned her friend was because her family essentially told him to, because she was suffering from OCD.
High School English Teacher Rachel scribbles erotic fantasies in a physical notebook, which happens to fall into the hands of Another Long-Term Hunky Male Enemy, HS Soccer Coach Tyler, in "Kiss Me Again", a short novella set in Juliet Spenser's "Bliss Harbor" Series. When Rachel attempts to break into Tyler's house to retrieve her notebook, he catches her in the act - and recriminations and confessions follow, with Rachel discovering that Tyler came back to Bliss Harbor because he's always been sweet on her... in his own Class Clown, Big Jerk way! While part of a series, this stands alone very well - while I don't know the "Bliss Harbor" books, this does a good job of selling the universe by presenting the falling in love of (what I assume to be) two supporting characters from the series.
Blair Babylon's "An Extravagant Proposal" was a "just-okay" story for me: Middle Class Texas Gal Charley has been Rich Gorgeous Preppie Ford's girlfriend since they were in college, but now that her finance industry career's settled enough that she can plan for the future (rather than trying to pay off her student loans while keeping her head barely above water!), she's starting to obsess about why he's never asked her to marry him. Telling herself that the weekend jaunt to Paris she takes her on will be a "fish-or-cut-bait" trip for her, she simultaneously fantasizes about how he'll propose to her while steeling herself for breaking up with him if he doesn't. Maybe a woman who's hoping her boyfriend will marry her will identify with this better than I did - I'm pretty sure my muttering "A Woman Without a Man is Like a Fish Without a Bicycle" back at Charley was NOT how the author intended me to take her story!
"On the Road: A Ransom Short Story" (technically, it's a novelette, as is just about every story in this collection) by Rachel Schurig is about the family rock group Ransom. I've already admitted I'm not a fan of romances with rock stars -that said, I kind of liked this one, which was as much about childhood gal pal turned rocker Daltrey Ransome's girlfriend Daisy, who's recovering from a nervous breakdown. Since most of the group are family, there's less extravagantly bad behavior than you might expect - while I didn't love it, I found it entertaining enough.
Julia Kent's "Christmas Shopping For a Billionaire" is part of part of her "Shopping for a Billionaire" series. It clearly fits the "LOL" theme of romantic comedy, as former Mystery Shopper Shannon and her Billionaire boyfriend Declan get roped into playing Sexy Santa and his Sexy Elf for a Boston Mall's Christmas Village - and all sorts of goofy supporting characters from their world show up somehow, to remind Declan just what he agreed to when he fell for Shannon! It's a hoot, and a great advertisement for her books - which leads me, parenthetically, to point out that the Kindle version of this collection has links back to the series (plural) that the stories are a part of....
"Love In Tune" by Caitie Quinn - Oh, Joy, More Rock-Star Goodness. Again, not a comic story so much as light drama, about a female Tour Logistics Manager who has to deal with the Rock Star's hunky (is there any other kind?) Best Bud undermining her constantly - as she sees it, anyway. When the Rock Star finally humiliates her in a song and she quits in a rage, shoving her phone and iPad at the Best Bud and telling him they can all Go To Hell - well, do you have to close your eyes to guess that Best Bud's been crazy about her since the beginning? And that what she thinks is "undermining" is his own Jedi Mind Trick way of getting Rock Star to go along with her plans? And that she's been warring between attraction and rage at Best Bud all along...?
Daisy Prescott's "Take Two" is a short story featuring the characters from GEODUCKS ARE FOR LOVERS, Maggie and Gil. Now starting their life as a couple living together in their Forties, Gil takes a "blue pill" so he can have sex with Maggie like they were back in college. It's more sweet than laugh-out-loud funny, but no less enjoyable for that.
The collection finishes with "Surprised By You" by Kelly Harper - Another Story About a Rock Star's Girlfriend. In this one, at least, the rock star's a sweetie, and the story is about the girlfriend trying to do something nice for him - and how it all goes sideways.
The Return of Ursula, A Peaches Monroe Short Story by Mimi Strong The Real Deal by Elle Casey Handcuffed to the Stockbroker by Victoria Wessex The Sex Tape by Cassia Leo Can’t Stop Wanting You by Gretchen Galway Legal-i-Tease, A Lawyers in Love Short Story by N.M. This anthology contained a number of sweet, funny short stories by some great authors.
Christmas Shopping for a Billionaire by Julia Kent - Rating: 4 Stars
Declan and Shannon’s story is really cute. Shannon gets called to the mall to fill in as the elf with Santa taking pictures. Her elf costume is too small so she keeps having nip peeks. Then Santa doesn’t show so Declan, her boyfriend, is roped into playing Santa. And he’s a HOT Santa. Crazy mothers, wild kids, Russian mafia, pets, old people and in-laws all show up for pictures with Santa.
The Real Deal by Elle Casey - Rating: 5 Stars
Melissa has decided internet dating thing isn’t working. All of her dates have been horrible. Closing her account, she notices an ad from a man wanting a fake fiancee for a weekend wedding. Knowing she’s done, she responds to his ad by wishing him good luck. Antoine replies back asking her to go. All expense paid trip to Paris for the weekend, how can she refuse. Turns out Antoine is HOT! Can these two discover love through the internet after all?
Handcuffed to the Stockbroker by Victoria Wessex - Rating: 4 Stars
Alice is leading a protest against members of Wall Street. Her plan is for all protesters to handcuff themselves to a “suit” in hopes of shutting down Wall Street. But her plans don’t turn out as expected, and she ends up with more than she bargained for being cuffed to Mason, a gorgeous man who makes her think about more than the protest.
EDIBLE: The Sex Tape by Cassia Leo - Rating: 4
Max Milan had a promising, successful future ahead of him performing in Vegas. Unfortunately, he let a woman get the better of him by agreeing to make a sex tape. Two years later and out of jail, he’s ready to get his life back together. Only problem, the same woman who hurt him, will have to help him.
Can’t Stop Wanting You by Gretchen Galway - Rating: 5
Jody had a crush on Simon in high school and now he’s moved into the apartment upstairs. He’s even more gorgeous than she remembers. Simon hopes Jody will let him explain about a past misunderstanding and repair their friendship. He wants more with her, always has, but he’ll take what he can get. When Jody hears the truth and realizes she was wrong about Simon, can they be more than friends?
Legal-i-Tease, A Lawyers in Love Short Story by N.M. Silber - Rating: 4 Stars
I love this series and I love Adam and Lily, so I knew I’d like this short story. Nice to see them enjoying their honeymoon.
Kiss Me Again by Juliet Spenser - Rating: 5 Stars
Rachel is a teacher in a small town who writes steamy love stories. She doesn’t plan on anyone else reading them. When she runs into Tyler, the guy she secretly has a crush on but who picks on her non stop, they bicker and she abruptly leaves. When she discovers she dropped her notebook and Tyler has it, she’ll stop at nothing to get it back. This was one of my favorite short stories in this analogy.
An Extravagant Proposal (Billionaires in Disguise: Charley) by Blair Babylon - Rating: 4 Stars
Charley has dated Ford for five years, but she wants more and she tired of waiting. If Ford doesn’t propose on their trip to Paris, she’s going to end things. The Paris trip is magical and Charley does something she didn’t plan. But then again, so does Ford.
On The Road, A Ransom Short Story by Rachel Schurig - Rating: 3 Stars
I liked this story well enough. Daltrey’s band has been on the road and everyone’s bored and tired of being on the bus, so they find something to do to pass the time.
Love in Tune by Caitie Quinn - Rating: 4 Stars
Melissa’s job is to keep spoilt lead singer, Dalton, in line. His best friend, Kyle, is a distraction and seems to often make things worse. Melissa avoids Kyle every chance she gets because she’s attracted to him, but she knows her job is more important. Only Kyle feels the same way and he’s tired to not getting what he wants.
Take Two by Daisy Prescott - Rating: 3.5 Stars
I wasn’t clear as to whether Maggie and Gil were just friends in college or if they actually dated. But they are together now in their 40s and love each. The storyline about the magical blue pills... it was okay.
Surprised By You by Kelly Harper - Rating: 3 Stars
Maggie tries to plan a surprise for her rockstar boyfriend Haden, but everything gets messed up. Maggie is the one who ends up being surprised.
The Return of Ursula, A Peaches Monroe Short Story by Mimi Strong - Rating: 3 Stars
I’ve read the first book in this series and unfortunately, I’m not a fan of Peaches. Her lack of confidence and constant inability to trust got on my nerves. She has the same problem in this story. She and Dalton have just been married. When he suggests he’d prefer she not watch him at work the next day, she decides to go anyway. Under disguise. She and her best friend wear wigs and show up, only to get in trouble as usual.

The Return of Ursula, A Peaches Monroe Short Story by Mimi Strong
I skipped this one. I read a previous Peaches Monroe story and Peaches seemed dirty, stinky, slightly slutty and not very smart, so I wasn't tempted to give this a shot.
The Real Deal by Elle Casey
This seemed cute, at the start. Now the woman is appearing too stupid and assuming to live. I hope the hero dumps her ass in Paris.
Handcuffed to the Stockbroker by Victoria Wessex
Way too short to get attached to either of them. The heroine seemed like a nut job and the hero a corporate shirt. It was hard to see the attraction.
EDIBLE: The Sex Tape by Cassia Leo
Can’t Stop Wanting You by Gretchen Galway
I normally enjoy Gretchen Galway's stories, but this was way too short to get many good feelings out of it.

Take Two- A Modern Love Story Short (LOL Romantic Comedy Anthology) By: Daisy Prescott Author Rated: R
5 Blue Stars
Take Two is a refreshing, funny short story. I love that the highlight of the book is a couple into their 40-ish. Some of us can relate with this story, and it let younger generations that we still got it!!!!
If you want to laugh and have a great read, then this short story is for you!!! Don't wait too long to read this.
Daisy Prescott has done it again. She delivers an amazing story.
Legal-i- Tease-- A Lawyer in Love Short Story (LOL Romantic Anthology) By: N.M Silber Rated: R
5 Stars
If you have continue to follow Adam & Lily to their honeymoon, we have the pleasure to travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This is a wonderful way to end an amazing love story.
If you haven't had the pleasure of reading A Lawyer in Love Series, you are missing out on great stories full of love, passion, laughter and thriller.
N.M Silber has deliver an excellent story. I love it and I recommend for you to read it. You will not be disappointed.
You know, I don’t often review anthologies. Too often, there will be a story you really couldn’t get along with which skews the scoring. And that isn’t really fair on the other authors.
So I’ve decided I’m going to base this review on my favourite story from the anthology…. but the scoring is still for the anthology.
Love in Tune by Caitie Quinn Melissa Foehner is a rock star babysitter whose star has just disappeared. Now nothing will stop her from getting the show back on the road… Not even a broad set of shoulders and a smart mouth.
I have read other stories in the Brew Ha Ha series from Caitie Quinn and I really like the deft touch she has with her storytelling, mixed together with humour. Although this tale is short, it has lost none of its sass. In fact, although small, it is perfectly formed. Well formed new characters, cameos by old faves, and the swoon factor is definitely there. In fact, I would like to prevail upon the author to give us a full length tale with this characters at some point!!
Overall, the anthology does what it says on the tin. There is plenty of humour, and lots of romance!
I received an advance copy in exchange for an honest review
What a great deal, 13 stories for only $0.99, that's less than $0.08 per story. You will not find a better deal. I love anthologies, they are a great way to find new authors to love.
My first recommendation is for Ms. Kent's Christmas Shopping for a Billionaire. This is such a sweet/hysterical/sexy epilogue to the Shopping series and should not be missed. If this is your first time reading a Kent story you will be hooked. Go ahead and buy all her books, you will not be disappointed.
Second, there is an awesome Peaches Monroe story by Ms. Strong. The Peaches Monroe series is another one that you will love. However, this story takes place in the middle of the series, so you will want to buy and read the entire series to get the most out of this short.
The theme for this anthology is "pillow fight" and is carried out through all of the stories. All of the stories are great and hopefully you will find a new author to follow.
However, for the price, it is worth it to buy this Anthology even if you just read the Kent or Strong short story.
I was given a ARC by one of the authors in this anthology in exchange for my honest review.
I have only read The Return of Ursula - A Peaches Monroe Short Story by Mimi Strong & On the Road - A Ransom Short Story by Rachel Schurig. These two were short and sweet and worth the 99 cents. I imagine the others are as well!
The Return of Ursula - A Peaches Monroe Short Story by Mimi Strong: Sweet little read. As always, it was a pleasure to read Mimi's work. I love seeing more Peaches and Dalton. The two are a sweet couple & it was nice to watch their relationship blossom into so much more than what it started out as.
On the Road - A Ransom Short Story by Rachel Schurig: I've read all of the books written by Rachel Schurig. This short story has the characters Daisy and Daltrey in it from her Ransom series. Great story. Definitely worth the purchase! I can't wait for another Ransom brothers book by Rachel!

I received this as a gift from Julia Kent and I must say that I loved her novella - Christmas Shopping for a Billionaire which is associated with her Shopping for a Billionaire series. I loved this latest chapter in the story of Shannon and Declan. Declan as a sexy stud of a Santa and Shannon as his beautiful sexy elf. Now that the kids are going back to school, this is the perfect bundle to keep us entertained. Thirteen stories at this price!
I love romantic comedies. I have to admit I have a preference for anything written by Mimi Strong. I have read just about everything this author has ever written. I always know her stories are well written and full of imaginative circumstances that will make me laugh out loud.
I this bundle, you will find her short story The Return of Ursula. This is short story about Peaches Monroe, now newly married to Dalton the movie star. Ursula is her alter ego... so you know she will be in disguise and up to no good! What is she up to now? For F*** sakes! She just got married to Dalton... she should be busy in the bedroom not getting into trouble.
This story is funny and sexy at the same time. I hope you enjoy these stories as much as I have!
I am giving this review for author Kelly Harper. Each story varies in degree of hotness from sweet to sizzling hot so.
This is a series of romantic comedy book by various authors. Mimi Strong, Elle Casey, Victoria Wessex, Cassia Leo,Gretchen Galway,N.M. Siber, Juliet Spencer, Blair Babylon, Rachael Schurig, Julia Kent, Caitie Quinn, Daisy Prescott and Kelly Harper.
Each of these author wrote very smooth story lines and non of the stories left you asking what happened or why was that. I have no complaints about any of these book at all and it was fun to read and laugh at some of the goings on in the stories.
This is definitely a must have collection for any romance and comedy reader out there. There are some strong language and sexual content so this series of books is for the mature reader.
The book The Return of Ursela is included in this brand new anthology of Romantic Comedies called LOL Volume 1. If you like a side of comedy with your romance, than this book bundle is for you and at .99 cents. Grab it while you can. I was thrilled to read more about Peaches and Dalton her Vampire actor husband. I love some comedy with my romance and Mimi strong really knows how to write funny touching stories. This is a quick chapter about 40 pages of the new marriage and the return to life in Dalton's house in California. Dalton states he doesn't want Peaches on the set of his TV show and Peaches is hurt and confused by this. A plan is hatched in perfect Peaches fashion and the result is a funny look at a day in the life of Peaches and Dalton.
I have only read two of the stories in this anthology, but loved them both and I'm sure the others are just as great. Edible: The Sex Tape by Cassia Leo is a story I enjoyed because both the h and H match in sensuality and wit. It is refreshing and had its moments of laughter. Just like every Cassia book, I read it from start to finish without a break. The only thing I didn't like is that it ended too quickly. I want more Max Milan!!!
The Return of Ursula by Mimi Strong gives us more Peaches and Dalton. Who doesn't want that? We get a little of their married life and get entertainment from Peaches/Ursula and her antics.
Both these stories alone are well worth the 99 cents. Being able to discover many more New authors is such a bonus.
There are so many great authors in this collection. And for the time being only $.99!!!! A must buy for sure. So far I've only read 2 of the stories but they were both fantastic. Mimi Strong's The Return of Ursula. This is a short story update after the marriage of Peaches Monroe and her hot and famous hubby. A fun read. I also read Cassia Leo's story Edible: The Sex Tape. This is a new story by Cassia. It's a very hot and sexy story about a newly famous musician who's a playboy. He gets himself into some trouble and is looking to get back what he had before he went to prison. He has a very dirty mouth ;) Cant wait to dive into more stories from this awesome collection.
The LOL Romantic Comedy Anthology is made up of 13 short stories by various authors. While some include characters from other series/novels each is a stand-alone with no cliff-hangers.
Since I'm a huge Julia Kent fan, Christmas Shopping for a Billionaire was my favorite. It was fun catching up with the characters from the 'Shopping for a Billionaire' series.
I also especially liked Can't Stop Wanting You by Gretchen Galway, Kiss Me Again by Juliet Spenser, and Love in Tune by Caitie Quinn. I'll definitely be looking out for more from these authors.
If you're looking for some fun and, in some cases very funny, 'mini' reads, you won't go wrong with this collection.
I read the Christmas shopping for a billionaire in this set and it was wonderful, I loved it. So many parts if this short story were funny. The elf costume and the constant nip flash, the mother's of some of the children, Hot Santa, old ladies, cats in reindeer suits, and the whole crazy family all together. This was a great addition to the series and it allowed us to see Declan and Shannon months later in their relationship. I still hold out hope that sometime Julia will right another short story about their future such as their wedding and childbirth, I could only imagine how funny those stories would be with her crazy friends and family. Don't want to miss this short story if you loved the series.
This review is from: LOL Romantic Comedy Anthology - Volume 1 - Thirteen All-New Romance Stories by Bestselling Authors (Kindle Edition)
So, the only issue I had with this book was that there weren't enough stories in it. LOL I got to the end and didn't realize it was the end. I wasn't ready to be done reading it! Haha
My favorite stories were Legal-i-Tease by N. M. Silber, Daisy Prescott's story, and Christmas Shopping for a Billionaire by Julia Kent. All the stories were great, but those three were my all time favorites.
I think this publisher needs to release a funny Holiday anthology book now.
