When Let in the Light: 50 Devotions to Confidently Know God is Good and Guiding Your Steps came to my email as an opportunity to review it, I jumped on it. I love Proverbs 31 Ministries, and I knew if they put the book out, it would be good. Plus, in a world that often feels dark, who doesn't want more light?
The book is a beautiful hardbound copy with gold lettering. It has a sewn-in ribbon to help keep track of your progress. The inside of the book carries the colors of the cover throughout the book. The chapter numbers are blue with the headings in gold. There are also beautiful illustrations throughout the book. I love books that are not just black and white; they seem more special.
The book is broken into nine sections
God is Light God Reveals Himself in Light We Have Walked in Darkness God's Blessings Shine Darkness Will Not Last Forever A New Dawn is Coming Jesus Is the Light of the World Children of Light, Called to Shine Darkness is Defeated Each section has five to six devotionals under that heading. They range from two to four pages each. The beginning of each devotional starts with a Scripture verse featuring "light." At the end of the devotional, there is a thought-provoking writing prompt, inviting you to take the study further.
I think this book is timely and needed. I have had a particularly hard year, and I need all the light and encouragement that I can get. It's nice to know that when we are in the dark seasons, we are not alone, and others have been there as well. It is also encouraging to see so many references to light.
Some favorite quotes: Like the literal dark of this winter day, emotional or spiritual exhaustion can overtake us with the hard things we endure...Then we see it. Peeling back the dark...light has dawned.
Our heavenly father doesn't have a dark side. All sides of God are light.
His splendor is unequaled, never to be eclipsed by sin or sorrow or even death-yes, death-for in Jesus is a dawn, light and life coming from and through Him. All praise to God for the brightness He is and the brightness He brings.
No matter how dark things get for us, light always overcomes the darkness. Light brings revelation, and there is no greater revelation than God Himself.
I could go on and on, but I encourage you to grab a copy and read it for yourself.
Thank you to the publisher and Front Gate Media for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I have been a fan of Proverbs 31 Ministries for many years, so I was excited to check out this devotional for myself. Right away, I was impressed with the beautiful design of this devotional. The beautiful style that we see on the cover is carried throughout the book with beautiful photographs sprinkled throughout as well. Beyond that though, the devotions inside are just as beautiful as well. Each devotion is written by a different author, and I enjoyed seeing the different voices- with each of them ultimately pointing us to God's light. They are fairly brief, just a few pages each, and all end with at least one journal prompt with additional space to reflect (though if you're wordy like myself, you might find a separate journal beneficial). There are 50 devotions, broken into 9 parts. At the time of this review, I have not read through it entirely but have enjoyed what I have seen so far. I looked forward to reading through this one more in the new year.
**Book received for consideration. All opinions are my own.
As someone who doesn't always have a ton of time for long devotionals, this is perfect. The readings are short but powerful, they make you stop and actually think about what you're reading instead of just skimming through.
What I love most is the journal space. It's not just a book you read and put down. You get to write out your answers to the questions, which turns it into a personal conversation with God. If you struggle with anxious thoughts or the "what ifs" that keep you up at night, this book speaks directly to that. It walks you through Scripture and shows how God's light has always been present, even in the darkest moments. It's encouraging without being preachy, and practical without being overwhelming.
I've already ordered two more copies to give as gifts. This is one of those books that feels like a hug when you need it most. Highly recommend for any woman who wants to grow closer to God but needs something realistic for a busy life.
Each of the devotionals, which do indeed focus on God's life and light, and how He desires to work them out in our lives, begins with a title and a particular Bible verse. The devotionals' authors then speak more on that verse and how it applies to our lives. There are also stunning nature photographs here and there throughout the book.
I love that the overall theme of "Let In the Light" reminds me of the moment in the Gospel of Mark 6:31, where Jesus tells the disciples (who were so tired from ministry) to, "Come away with Me to a quiet place and rest." Each of these devotionals, in some way, invited me to do the same thing. To come away, to think about and consider the Lord, to enjoy His presence and love. That makes this devotional one I highly recommend!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions shared here are my own honest ones.
Let in the Light by the Proverbs 31 Ministries Team truly blessed me. The opening pages set a powerful tone with a reminder that “God is light”—pure, good, and without darkness. I loved that the 50 devotions were written by 23 different contributors, each offering unique stories and insights. The nine sections cover meaningful themes that all point back to God’s unfailing light, which feels especially needed in today’s world.
I enjoyed this devotional about looking to the Lord who is the light of the world, It helps to remember that our light is not dependent on things of this world.
