💭 I have been a fan of A. Helwa’s writings eversince The Secret of Divine Love. I was thinking, “What would it be, how would it felt reading her poetry instead?”. My guess are right. I genuinely enjoyed and touched by almost every single pages that she wrote. It went so deep into my soul that I cried most of the time and even have difficulty to process my thoughts and feelings into this review, afraid that it would not do the book a justice or justify how good it is. We sometimes forgot how Merciful Allah is, how loving He is because we are so in wrapped up in the thoughts of His wrath, that at the end pulls us away from Him. So, this book is a gentle nudge, and reminder of not to be scared to come back to him, when we are astray.
💭 As mentioned in the Author’s note, “Let this book serve as your reminder that God is with you when you are heartbroken and longing to be whole, when grief weighs heavy on your spirit, and when anxiety shakes your faith”.
💭 These are a couple of my favourites poems : 👉🏻 “The things you shame and judge in someone else, are the unhealed wounds you carry inside youself. -I hate in you the parts of myself I am unabke to love.”
💭 “Do not be hurt when someone calls you only when they are in need, be grateful that you are the sun they seek when darkness steals their peace.”

“Not all breaking is the same. When we turn to god with our broken hearts, he opens us to realities beyond our greatest imaginations” I loved A. Helwas previous book Secrets of Divine Love so I was so excited to hear she was going to come out with a poetry book. She had a way with words that truly hit you straight in your heart. I love how they were so many different topics covered not only religion but ego, relationships, life etc. she touches on every aspect of life and brings it all back to how god should and Always be the center of that even when we sometimes lose our way.

Suddenly I feel the urge to search A.Helwa on Instagram and viola! she had another book?! yes sure I bought it ten minutes after I know and turned out Gramedia give discount too!
Have you ever feel like a writer that represent your thoughts without having the right words to say yet this writer just write seamlessly and you say, "yes queen! I feel you". A kind of writer that makes you feel seen and understands you in a way that everybody's journey in terms of Religion is different from everyone, but we're on the same page if we talk about the first step.
You may heard, "Secrets of Divine Love: A Spiritual Journey into the Heart of Islam" which turned out to be a ramadan-must-read-book this year (based on goodreads), where she would pinpoint everything we already know but in a storytelling way, "Here's where Allah loves you." "Here's where Allah wants you to do more pray", "Allah loves you from the very start.". With this book, A.Helwa invites us to get more closer to Allah and Islam but in a poetry way. Of course, she choose the beautiful words but the taste of religion is still thick just as her last books.
I don't know if I could get my Imaan as high as her but I am sure that Allah will help me to find my way, and I'll be okay.
please take a look at my bookstagram at @moo.reads have a great day everyone!
Once again Allah through A. Helwa has given us another masterpiece. This is truly a must read. The creative collage of words resounds the message of love. My only complaint is that it was too short. I look forward to future books
4.5 stars beautifully written collection of islamic poetry a lot of metaphors and symbols which i liked really made me think and apply to my life made me cry at first bc i was climbing out of a hole that i dug myself into some made my thoughts wander tho - losing focus idrk if thats a good thing idk for a few poems i was like what are u talking about like they made no sense or i just couldn't comprehend segments
"I do not know what the next chapter will bring, but I know it's been written with love by the greatest Author there ever will be or ever was" (Helwa 185).
this was the final poem and i liked it! it exemplifies tawakal (trust in god) and that God's decree is written with love.
Look at the galaxies at the dancing light of the stars. Look at the deep blue sea and the weaving rivers as they part.
Look at the perfect orbit of every sun and moon. Look and see the beauty of every divine sign and subtle truth.
Every pain I have ever faced came from forgetting Your Name. Spending lifetimes turning toward myself in shame or toward others with blame in search of the peace that only emanates from Your Presence.😭😭😭
Every passage is beautifully written, bringing me to a mix tears of joy, relief, and sadness. Listen to the audiobook and experience the full vibes of the book.
Are you familiar with the bestselling title in islamic spirituality, Secrets of Divine Love? Well, the author made a come back. This time with a collection of poems about our connection with the Divine, divided into 5 themes: mercy, faith, insight, guidance, and love. Some poems are as short as a line, some fill an entire page. One thing they have in common is that all are reflective and beautifully written. A. Helwa had also generously put a disclaimer at the beginning of the book that poetic language is not supposed to be taken as theological verity.
Wow. Another gem from A. Helwa. I am so grateful that this writer has created a space where Muslims can show up as themselves and know that they are loved by God. This is an often overlooked tenet of all spiritual paths: God is vastly and unconditionally loving. Thank you for reminding us of this with your beautiful writing that immediately drops us from our head to our heart, and inspires us toward the Divine.
"From Darkness Into the Light" by Helwa is an inspiring and thought-provoking book that takes the reader on a transformative journey. Through powerful poems and vivid prose, Helwa shares her personal experiences of overcoming adversity and finding hope, love, and purpose in life. This books feels like a love letter to God!
The author's writing style is engaging and heartfelt, and the book is filled with wisdom and insights that can help readers navigate their own challenges and struggles.
Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for inspiration, or simply a good read. Helwa has created a masterpiece that will touch your heart, stir your soul, and leave you feeling uplifted and inspired. Five stars!" I ordered this book on a whim and oh how I love it! Attaching some snippets from the books so you can see for your self!
I'm really not one to read poems at all but this was such a beautiful read.
As expected, the author's writing is stunning and delicate in every way. Every word fit right in with what was intended to deliver. This book was more towards our relationship and feelings towards Allah SWT than towards Islam as a whole.
But I do feel like this book isn't something extraordinary though I still really like it. Probably because I'm not into poems. Either way, this book was peaceful in a way that made me feel calm as I savor every word. A great read during Ramadan, for sure.
♾️/5🌟 a gem. a masterpiece. so profound, absolutely unforgettable and immensely inspiring. every person out there, despite of their religion, must read it. Alhamdulilah, for coming across this book at such a perfect time.
Once again, A. Helwa reminds us about how Allah SWT really love us. His love is beyond everything we human can imagine. He was, is, and will always be there for us and so close to us -- way before anything and will after forever. Decided to picking up this book in the beginning of Ramadan 2023 / 1444H to help setting the proper intention. Overall, a nice book that I will definitely revisit again in some different ocassions and conditions.
i feel awful for leaving an imperfect review on a book about spirituality, but i have to be honest... while the majority of this book was highlighted by me, & my opinion that those struggling with faith would find this to be a good read, for 80% of this book, it felt like i was reading the works of a muslim rupi kaur. the poetry at times was so plain & restricted in its expression, often restating the same thoughts or metaphors, which eventually made this feel like a tiresome read. i will say though, the 'light of guidance/noor al-hadi' chapter was brilliant enough to earn the entire book two more stars than i originally planned to give. despite my low rating, i'd still recommend this book, simply because i feel it has enough inspiration for anyone feeling lost or struggling with belief. no harm in reading it anyway, right? maybe it might be far more profound to someone else, even if a lot of it didn't feel that way for me.
Sometimes, I wonder about the vastness of the cosmos and Allah's magnificent creations—some out there and some closer to us than our own breaths. I am in a constant state of humbleness and awe at the grandeur of Allah's love permeating through everything the eyes can see and cannot see. I am often bewildered by the magnitude of the love and forgiveness that Allah has for His creations, and this elegant but powerful book, full of otherworldly poems, describes that love with the utmost care and delicacy.
To say that the author, A. Helwa, did a great job would be a disservice to the amount of thought that went through every chapter, every paragraph, every sentence, and even every word. As was the case with her previous book, "Secrets of Divine Love," after every train of thought, I had deep internal reflections, some sessions extending for hours on end. The sentences flow like water, the combination and play on words are on a different level, and the balance between lengths and ideas was extraordinary. The effectiveness and cohesion of the text amplified Allah's generosity and greatness to new heights.
Perceiving the divine love in "From Darkness Into Light" has itself shone a light on the immense blessings we have in our daily lives, taking us from the darkness of arrogance to the light of love. One of my favorite quotes was, "I say I have no time for You, yet You created time for me." The mere simplicity, yet juxtaposed complexity makes it all the more fascinating to think about.
This book is dear to my heart, a book that I'll keep reading over and over until I can't. I wholeheartedly recommend this masterpiece of work from the hands of A. Helwa. This book will inspire a deep appreciation for Allah's blessings and will hopefully shift your internal gears to prioritize the Akhira, because, in the end, the body is a mere vehicle encompassing the eternal soul that knows no shape or bounds.
Title: From Darkness Into Light Author: A. Helwa Publisher: Quanta (PT Elex Media Komputindo) Pages: 187
The contents of the book are divided into several sections based on the writers think how God gives His love: The Light of Mercy, The Light of Faith, The Light of Insight, The Light of Guidance, The Light of Love.
Without much preamble, the author describes with poetic words how much God's love and we can get it from everything in the world. God loves us with whatever the conditions are.
Although some of the introduction's paragraph start from a disappointment, but that continues flow towards an inspiring conclusion. The parables given are uncomplicated and followed by the explanation so we can easily feel relate to the condition. Another good thing is that the author can create a religious book that doesn't feel burdensome.
