Each poem lyrically navigates the origins of her identity based boundaries, and dare to ask what it means to truly, and finally, come home.
This collection weaves in and out of memoir and metaphor, and attempts to articulate the non-tangible aspects of trauma that linger in places where most are too afraid to look. dwelling gives permission to both Godding and the reader to question why we are the way we are, even if it means staring at what hurt us and not looking away. In Dwelling, Michaela Godding has crafted a collection that feels less like a book and more like a physical space one inhabits. The title is perfectly chosen; Godding’s strength lies in her ability to find the profound within the mundane. Her imagery is sharp and tactile. What struck me most was the pacing. There is a deliberate stillness to Golding's voice that demands the reader slow down. In a world that often feels hurried and fragmented, Dwelling offers a necessary grounding.
For readers who appreciate poetry that finds the sacred in the everyday, this collection is an absolute treasure. It is a hauntingly beautiful reminder that we are all, in one way or another, constantly building the spaces where our souls can rest.

I find myself continuing to come back to these poems. They are filled with feelings and moments that I could swear I’ve felt before… if not directly in some way in my lifetime >>>> I finished the chapbook feeling seen and relieved and emotional. I questioned a lot. I thought a lot. I truly love this collection and will recommend it to everyone… but especially women who have EVER felt hurt or unvalued or unsure.
