Southern Secrets is the second book in the Southern series by Shelley Stringer. I really liked this book. Well written. About Vampires, Ocros, who are the bad people. Aldon are the good. The Navy Seals all sound like muscle and wonderful guys. They are so good to their women. Ev is an Aldon. He helps protect Chandler when her husband Navy Seal Banton is away, from the Ocros. Beau is Banton's dog and can smell the Ocros. There is a lot going on in this book. You have to read it. A very good read. I couldn't put it down. I just started the third and last book in the series. I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

* I received an e-book in exchange for an honest review. *

Author Shelley Stringer is new to the book writing industry, with this being her second book, but if you were to read her books without knowing this, you would at once assume that she is a seasoned writer that has been doing it forever! Her stories are fresh, her writing is on point and her characters are the best friends that you have been looking for your entire life.

This book just draws you into it right from the start and you cannot, nor do you want to let it go! It picks up right where book one left off and it is a seamless transition. The characters continue with their lives and she introduces a few more lovable characters into the mix, as well. My favorites remain Banton, Ev and Chandler, but it was hard not to fall for some of the others as well. The author's writing is refreshing, fun, interesting and bold all at once. The plot flows with no problems, there is never any "filler" as you read and at times you can't seem to get enough of the story, characters or plot. The author describes the city, the scenery and the characters with so much detail that you can close your eyes and have a clear picture of everything that is going on throughout the story. The books are a mixture of Navy Seals, ghosts and vampires and however strange that sounds, it works, and it works well! I almost catch myself wondering if the ghosts and vampires really do exist because the author makes them seem that real and plausible.

I cannot wait to read the 3rd book, Southern Spirits, and am sad to know that there will only be 3 books in the series! This is one of those books that you get lost in and don't want to end, EVER!!!

The story continues, if you read the first book, Southern Comfort you know it ended in a big shocker and you just needed to know what was going to happen next. It picks up right where we left of and the author has a way with getting you into the story. You feel like you are right there with them living it. I loved ALL the characters in book one so I won't mention them again but I still think Ev is my fave. He is just so awesome, the best friend anyone can have. I also liked that the author seemed to add a little bit of mystery to his character in this part of the story, there are things that he is hiding or things that are in his past that we still don't know much about but I am waiting for the author to reveal patiently. I'm sure whatever it is will be awesome. Something that you need to do before reading this book is read Southern Comfort or you will be lost.
Emotions are high on this one, I was very sad when we lose a character (a great one) and could not believe the author made that decision but I was thinking that something would happened that could fix it and so far I think it might work. But I have to say I was heartbroken and very emotional.
We see a side to a main character that we had not seen before and I really loved it, it was John, I really loved him before but I love him even more after this book.
There is a lot going on in this part of the story, a LOT, so it will keep you entertained for sure.
The romance in the story is as good as the first book and there are some steamy parts as well.
The ending was a bit sad to me and also a bit of a cliffy but not a bad one.
Will I read the next part in the series? Definitely!

Another great read by Shelley L. Stringer! After Book 1, Southern Comfort, I’ve been anxiously awaiting this release – I had it downloaded within hours of its release and read it in a day! This sequel definitely didn’t disappoint unless you count the disappoint I felt when I realized I had come to the end of this book and would have to wait another four months or so to learn what happens to the characters I’ve grown to love. You will love them too. If you loves romance novels – this one is steamy, you’ll love it. If you love vampires – these are the coolest of vampires, you’ll love it. But even if you’re like me and those really aren’t your genres, you’ll still love this book. I love a mystery and this one definitely has that – oh, the twists and turns! I can’t say much more for fear of spoilers but I will say that Everett is my absolute fave and I’ve been dying to learn more about his mysterious past. Oh, Ms. Stringer you are such a tease! :) I can't wait for Southern Spirits!

I liked this series, well at least the first few chapters of book 1. The reason I said that because I liked Chandler at the beginning of the series. I liked her character but she lost that in book 2 and not mention that there was no story in book 2. In book 2 she became so whinny. I am reading book 3 and I do believe that you can skip book 2 in the series and you won't feel like miss anything. It really is too bad because the storyline was pretty good and it could have turned into an awesome read.

WOW! Just WOW! Southern Secrets packs a powerful punch in picking up after Southern Comfort without losing a beat! I love the character's of these book because they are so skillfully crafted. Each character is relevant to the story line and pull you into their world making you feel like you know them personally....that they are family. From Banton and Chandler to Beau, the dog, everyone in this book plays a key role in the story development. I especially love Everett and would love to have him in my real life because he is so much fun, but remains so mysterious. This series is very well researched for historical and other information. Mrs. Stringer has apparently masterfully educated herself on the nuances of the French, Creole, names, and slang used to describe the characters and region in and around New Orleans. I checked the meaning of all of these myself to see if they were accurate and, once again, Mrs. Stringer didn't disappoint! I guess you could say that for me this was an exercise in learning as well as time spent in a well written book. I have never been a huge fan of paranormal writing. However, for a book that has Navy Seals, ghosts and vampires I must say that this is the most realistic story I have ever read and I almost catch myself wondering if the ghosts and vampires really do exist. The plot has twists and turns everywhere and most certainly caught and kept me off guard. This is a book that I didn't want to put down and really did not want to end because it left me with too many questions and impatient for answers! I cannot wait until Southern Spirits Book 3 of the Southern Series to come out in December but dread the time that I have to wait for my questions to be resolved. Congratulations, Shelley L. Stringer! Your writing is refreshing and bold and I can't wait to continue following your unfolding successful writing career!

It took me much longer to read and finish this book than I first thought it would. I work full-time (that had something to do with it), but this book just seemed to drag on for me. The beginning felt very slow and it was easy to set down – which wasn’t the case in book one. Don’t get me wrong, I like the series but the character’s actions/reactions is getting a bit too unbelievable – even for fiction. The Aldons and Seals, as well as their lady loves, are victims of sporadic acts of violence from the Orcos, including attempted kidnappings and dream invasions, on more than one occasion. They have knowledge of what is motivating the Orco’s attacks, yet they still carry on with daily activities that put them all more at risk. They would say they didn’t want to put their families/friends at risk and then they would have a gathering/sleepover at Chandler and Banton’s house with family and friends. It got very frustrating for me to read about attacks and then read where Chandler would go walking to the cemetery or to invite Mr. Jackson to dinner – to the very place where the Aldons and Seals have had to step up security due to the threat of further attacks.

I was talking to my niece about her thoughts on the series and though it’s not a favorite of hers, she, like me, wants to know more about Everett’s past and how it ties into what’s happening with Chandler, Banton and the Seals. Neither of us believe he’s gay; flamboyant like his grandma – yes, gay, not so much. He seems to have a mysterious connection with the lady/twins who, we assume, died during childbirth. And what’s his real connection to Lucian? AND who’s the Navy mole who seems to be playing both sides? AND, for me, there’s something a little unsettling about Mr. Jackson’s role in all this.

I’m definitely involved and have a vested interest in wanting to continue with this series to learn more about these characters and how everything ties together. I would recommend – and have recommended - this series for others to read.
