Combining a wildlife sanctuary, murder, and threatening events, Colleen Coble has another wonderful novel in Prowl, the second book in the Sanctuary series. When a worker at the Sanctuary is discovered dead in the tiger enclosure, everyone assumes the big cat killed her. However, the autopsy shows she had been given a lethal dose of anesthetic delivered by a tranquilized gun. As always, Sheriff’s Deputy Creed Greene suspects Blake Lawson, co-owner of the Sanctuary.

Blake has his hands full trying to clear his name and get the wildlife sanctuary profitable. Then a soil test turns up traces of rare earth elements. Trespassers, cut fences, and other acts of sabotage occur. Is someone trying to destroy their business so they can buy the land cheaply?
Meanwhile, veterinarian Paradise Alden is splitting her time between the Sanctuary and the veterinary clinic she purchased. She’s also determined to find the brother she recently found existed. When the DNA test results mysteriously disappear from her portal before she can read them, she believes someone must not want her to know the truth. Additionally, someone is trying to scare her with phone calls and break-ins.

The good thing is Blake and Paradise have rekindled their relationship and have talked about marriage at some point in the future. Their relationship is one of a few solid things in their lives, along with Blake’s mother, Jenna, and his two half-brothers, Levi and Isaac.
Paradise projects a strong, confident manner and is a deep thinker. She’s spirited, stands up to bullies, and values independence. She tends to cling to the familiar because she experienced so much change when she was younger. Blake was a Marine combat paramedic before the death of his stepfather brought him back home to help his mother. He relates easily to most people, loves the Sanctuary, and tends to protect the underdog. He has a quiet confidence, kind manner, and is selfless and caring. He hates injustice and is committed to those he loves.

Suspense and danger abound in this novel and it includes several action-packed scenes. The mysteries add intrigue and depth to the story. Building on this are family dynamics and romance, as well as the possibility of losing their home and the sanctuary they love. This gives the story a plot that holds a reader’s attention and keeps them rapidly turning the pages. While I guessed who most of the antagonists were, it did not detract from my enjoyment of the novel. Add on great world-building and excellent characterization, and you get a wonderful tale.

Overall, this was an entertaining and suspenseful novel that kept me fully engaged with its gripping storyline. It’s well-plotted and beautifully executed. Themes include integrity, murder, love, family, threats, and much more. While the main mysteries were resolved, there are several threads for future books in the series. I can’t wait to see what is next.

After discovering this series about veterinarian, Paradise, who returns home to the AL Gulf Coast to work at a wild animal sanctuary after being attacked by a wild animal at her last job, I knew I was going to like Paradise. Paradise is a bit of a bad@$$!!! Initially, I had some concerns about the Christian label. As someone who is not religious, at all, I wasn’t interested in the preachy overtones of a religious story. I was pleasantly surprised when the first installment only had a couple of really brief (one or two sentences) comments and passages. While this installment had a few more comments than the first installment, they were still really brief and innocuous and actually seemed more spiritual than religious. The passages actually reminded me more of the kind of things that my yoga instructor tends to say in class than anything else. Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that I didn’t find it preachy or offensive in any way.

There is a lot going on in this installment and the book summary basically introduces the different storylines. The primary storyline is all the nefarious incidents going on at the sanctuary starting with the death of a sanctuary employee, who was actually spying on Paradise and hired to cause problems for the sanctuary. This is not a spoiler because it was discovered early in the investigation. There is also the storyline of Paradise trying to find her biological brother, but problems with her DNA results that keep disappearing reveal that someone is tampering with her efforts to find out the truth about her parents’ murders. This too is revealed early in the story.

Most of the story revolves around the incidents at the sanctuary and how the police are treating the victims. LOVED how Paradise stood up to Det Green!!! You go girl!!! Total bad@$$!!! Things begin to pile up for the sanctuary and it’s not looking good for Blake and Paradise who are desperately trying to save the sanctuary. The end seems to come fast in a flurry of some really scary and intense scenes (I HATE swamps and gators) for Blake and Paradise.

The continuing character for Paradise and Blake was well done. I hope Coble continues to develop some of the newly introduced characters in the next installment. The pacing was steady to fast with something always going on. The storyline and writing were fine, with my only complaint being that this installment didn’t seem to have as much about the animals as the first one. The first one definitely spent more time and space featuring specific sanctuary animals. More animal stories and spotlights Ms. Coble - please!!! I’m looking at an overall rating of a solid 4.0 for a 4star review. I want to thank NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction and Zondervan Fiction Audio for sending me this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

This second installment of the Sanctuary series is a perfect blend of second-chance romance and heart-pounding suspense.

With ‘Prowl,’ Cobble writes to remind her readers that (1) our past doesn’t need to define us, (2) second chances are opportunities not to be missed, and (3) that there’s freedom in forgiveness.

Cobble reintroduces us to the wildlife veterinarian, Paradise Alden, who is eager to find lost family despite every effort made ending in frustration. She’s convinced that someone doesn’t want her to revisit her past. Paradise learns that “if we let fear control us, we miss out on the day-to-day things that make life rich and meaningful,” and so she sets fear aside and puts it all in God’s hands. I was in awe of her ability to trust after all she’d been through.

Blake Lawson is the co-owner of the Sanctuary and has a history with Paradise. Despite everything going on at work, he continues to put Blake first. He reminds her that there’s no shame in leaning on each other to compensate where they each need help. I identified with her struggle because I’m also independent and hate asking for help.

The suspense ranges from quickening pulse moments to heart-pounding, adrenaline-filled page flipping. There’s a murder to investigate and strange events surrounding the Sanctuary property to understand. Coble keeps her readers’ inner sleuths busy as she doles out the clues regarding property ownership and DNA results.

For anyone who’s ever questioned why God allows certain things to happen, who struggles with change or forgiveness, or is apprehensive about second chances … this is your gentle nudge to add this one to your reading list.

I was gifted this copy and was under no obligation to provide a review.

She is one of my 3 favorite Christian fiction suspense authors. The list hasn’t changed ever. This is the second in the Sanctuary series. Both books were awesome and I highly recommend. The action jumped right off the page. Several, believable red herrings along the way, of course. Ms. Coble’s writing is so descriptive, it’s easy to picture as the story unfolds. She’s also an author I often re read and an auto pre order. The romance is always sweet, clean and pure. Highly recommend.

I was blessed with an ARC. Thank you NetGalley. The opinions expressed are my own and unbiased.

Book 2 in The Sanctuary Series

Really enjoyed book 2 after Ambush! This is a Christian Romantic Suspense series and delivers fast paced suspense, emotional depth and a romance you just can't help but root for. We had a CRAZY introduction to this book. A body is found in the tiger enclosure and RIGHT AWAY you just need to know ALL the things! I listened to the audiobook and love the narration. Colleen always has a good narrator for her books that keep you engaged.

We are back with Blake and Paradise from book 1 with their second chance romance continuation as their relationship grows amid alllll the chaos around them. We are following multiple mysteries in a way with Paradise's missing DNA results and the murder of the woman from the beginning of the book.

Definitely recommend this series by Colleen, really good! Especially if you like animals, fast paced suspense, faith moments and a sweet romance.

Thank you to the publisher for a complimentary copy to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Since it worked so well in the first book, the author has decided that a dead body at the animal refuge is the perfect way to start the second book. It looks like someone else is out to cause trouble for The Sanctury. Just change the names and a few circumstances and you have a whole new book. Sort of. I do have to say that the plot was more convoluted this time around and I liked how Coble managed to introduce so many characters and make them important to the plot. Second chances and depending on God are themes that were woven throughout, but the why of this mystery was a real twisted mess.

Ivy Cook had big plans that didn't involve this dead-end job at The Sanctuary. While feeding the animals, Ivy had no idea that she would soon be the morning meal for Raj, the tiger. Now with things just returning to normal, her death throws The Sanctuary into chaos once again. With the biased detective once again blaming co-owner Blake Larson for the death, he is split between clearing his name and keeping The Sanctuary afloat. When testing of the soil in a fallow field reveals a deposit of rare earth elements, Blake wonders if someone wants The Sanctuary closed and his family forced to sell in order to profit from what is below the ground.

Blake has little time for his budding romance with veterinarian Paradise Alden, but she has her own issues to deal with. Taking over the town vet practice and moving into her own apartment is a happy time for her. When the results from a DNA search go missing, and her apartment is broken into, she is concerned that someone is out to stop her from finding the truth about her family. Paradise is not going to be so easily deterred, and Blake wants nothing more than to protect her and love her forever.

My thanks to the Publisher and Author for providing a complimentary digital Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this novel via NetGalley. This is my fair, honest and personal review. All opinions are mine alone and were not biased in any way.

Prowl by Colleen Coble was such a great read! I always love the twists she brings to the best genre ever—romantic suspense—and this series, which began with Ambush, is no exception.

In this second installment, we’re thrown right back into The Sanctuary. It starts with Clara, and I just knew she was going to be trouble (as usual). I actually wish we’d seen a little more of her—though, let’s be honest, no one really likes a hyena!

Blake and Paradise are doing their best to juggle life, their animals, and their relationship when darker things begin to unfold. When Paradise proposed to Blake, I actually felt bad for her. I understood his reasoning for saying no, and I’m a bit old-school—I love when the guy makes a grand gesture. But I think he could’ve said it in a more romantic way. Give me Humphrey Bogart vibes—woo me with words! It was a tough moment, though he always finds a way to redeem himself and show how much he cares for her.

One of my favorite lines was, “Talk to God about it. That’s where real healing is found.” And another early on that stood out to me: “The whisper in his heart was a reminder she belonged to God, not Blake.” Those moments perfectly capture the heart of this series—the right mix of faith, suspense, and just the right amount of romance.

There was one small part about the will and its location that left me a little confused, but I won’t spoil anything by saying more.

Overall, Prowl is a must-read!

This is an exciting next installment in the Sanctuary series. The book kicks off with a murder that threatens the animal preserve— and the romance is put off even as it builds because the habitat has to be saved. I love how Colleen is seamlessly weaving characters from her series with Rick Acker into this one. It makes for a rich tapestry. Such fun! And the mystery is fantastic!

This second book in the Sanctuary series by Colleen Coble was engrossing from page one. I love the idea of a wildlife sanctuary and I was intrigued to see how far Paradise Alden had progressed in her search for her parent’s killer. But the quest seems to be side-tracked by another murder staged to look like a big cat attack. And someone from her past is trying to stop her investigating. The Sanctuary is in deep financial trouble and a solution presents itself. But is it a ruse or is it even viable. Then there is the matter of a missing will that poses an additional problem.
The romance between Paradise and Blake Lawson permeates the story, but with everything going on, it is hard for them to set a wedding date. Blake is in protection mode, not only with Paradise but with his mom and little brothers too. A lot is on his shoulders. Paradise still wants to assert her independence, however is very grateful for Blake when he comes to the rescue.
Ms Coble writes a well-researched, intricately plotted story that had me turning pages. I loved seeing the Lawson family connections, their strong faith and a few characters from other books.
This series is not to be missed. I am eager to see what happens in book three.

I wanted to like this so much!! I was excited to read it.. but it felt like it dragged on. I enjoyed the characters and I loved their romance and how they were there for each other but there were multiple storylines that they kept referring to the past and living through the present. I liked the idea of this book more than the book.

This was a fairly easy listen for a "new to me" author. I had not read the first book in this series (this is the second book) but it wasn't too hard to understand the events that were occurring.

We are introduced to Paradise Alden, who is a veterinarian buying into a new vet practice in a small town. She is apparently dating our MMC Blake Lawson, who is one of the owners of a wild animal sanctuary in their town.

Immediately there is a suspicious death of one of the workers at the animal sanctuary which ends up being a homicide. Unfortunately, that is only the beginning and thus begins a series of events where it seems as if someone is warning Paradise away from the town while at the same time trying to damage the reputation of the sanctuary with some really negative PR. There were things that had happened to the couple prior to this (Book 1) but it really didn't take away from the story to have jumped in without any knowledge of those events.

To me, the story felt easy enough to follow along with but did not really feel like there was too much depth. The characters were pretty one dimensional and felt fairly superficial even though there were lots of things happening.

This was an Audio ARC and it was my first time hearing narrator Karen Peakes. That might have been part of the problem as it felt like we did not get too much differentiation in her performance of the different characters - creating a somewhat flat narration. I do not think I would continue on with this series.

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio | Thomas Nelson Fiction for the opportunity to read and review this Audio ARC. This book will be out for publication on November 4, 2025.

This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the second book in the Sanctuary series. I have read the first book in this series before picking up this book, and I do think you need to read the first book before picking up this book. I listened to the audiobook for this book, and I really enjoyed the audiobook. I got pulled into the story right away. I loved that the characters are the same as in the first book. I love the animals, and I wished we got more of the animals in this book. There was a ton of drama and suspense throughout. I cannot wait for the next book in this series. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

Colleen Coble does it again! Prowl is a suspense-filled, heart-thumping sequel that pulled me right back into the intensity, beauty, and danger of the Sanctuary. From page one, I was hooked.

When a worker is found dead inside the tiger enclosure, the shock deepens after the autopsy reveals she was killed by a tranquilizer—not a big cat. Suddenly Blake, co-owner of the Sanctuary, is the prime suspect, and mysterious signs of rare earth beneath the property raise even more questions. Someone clearly wants the Sanctuary destroyed… and Blake blamed.

Meanwhile, wildlife vet Paradise Alden is on her own emotional search after discovering she may have a brother she never knew existed—only for her DNA results to vanish and her apartment to be broken into. Someone is desperate to keep the past buried.

As danger escalates, Paradise and Blake are forced to rely on each other more than ever. I loved watching their relationship grow as their trust deepened and their faith stretched. The mix of high-stakes mystery, emotional healing, and a steady, closed-door romance made this such a compelling read. The animal sanctuary setting makes the whole series feel fresh, vivid, and uniquely tense in the best way.

Prowl delivers exactly what romantic suspense fans crave: danger, heart, faith, found family, and the reminder that the past doesn’t get to define you. This series truly shines when read in order—I was on the edge of my seat the entire time!

This is a well-crafted and twisted mystery/romantic suspense featuring Blake Lawson who runs The Sanctuary and Paradise Alden who is the vet there for all of the wild animals. The two of them are in love but have constantly postponed getting married because of issues dealing with Blake’s business. In this novel, someone is sabotaging The Sanctuary with threats and intimidation. When Blake discovers that the land he and his mom own has rare earth elements on it that could be worth millions, at least he knows why someone is determined to get them to sell. But he doesn’t want to give up on the dream that his mom and stepdad started together. There is a subplot about Paradise trying to find her brother which had some interesting twists as well. I enjoyed the way the mystery unfolded methodically with plenty of clues as well as fake trails, although it was fairly obvious who really wanted the land. What was not obvious was the person pulling the strings and that was a surprising reveal near the conclusion. I also was impressed with the character development and how their flaws did not weaken their faith and their hope that all would work out, even when things got very dicey towards the end. This is an absorbing read with non-stop action and relatable characters. I am already looking forward to the next book in this series.

Prowl was another suspenseful thriller from Colleen Coble where the author kept me flipping pages and reading one more chapter to see what would happen.

The attacks on the Sanctuary started up again with a possible murder and someone targeting Paradise - not sure if it all relates to a threat on the Sanctuary of something from Paradise’s past.

The threats were well spread out throughout the story to give the perfect balance of suspense and the relationship development between Paradise and Blake. The threat was also very believable and I was also caught unprepared for who was all involved.

There were still a lot of unanswered questions involving Paradise and her long lost brother and who murdered her parents. I am expecting a thrilling conclusion to the series.

It was also fun to have this series cross over with the Tupelo Grove series.

The second gripping novel in the 'sanctuary' series, Coble adds more mysteries, more suspense and drama. It left me wanting to read the third book right now!

It's great to see the characters growing in each book of the series. I love that the book is tied to animals. One thing I loved about the novel, is that the author tied it to her 'Tupelo Grove' series. I highly recommend reading those as well as the previous book in this series.

Arggg! Cliffhangers are horrible, but Colleen Coble has a way of making them less painful. It’s going to be so hard to wait for the finale!

If you haven’t read the previous book, spoiler alert🚨!

Paradise and Blake are together in work and in relationship. His family—mom Jenna and little brothers Isaac and Levi—have embraced her and adore her.

But someone she knows doesn’t. In fact, this person wants her gone—for good.

Blake is in danger of losing the animal sanctuary he and his family call home. Someone is out to destroy everything he’s built.

Will they lose their sanctuary—or their lives? Just how far is someone willing to go?

The action is intense and nonstop. The love is strong and binds the story together. And the way Coble introduces faith into the story feels very natural and organic.

I received an advance copy from the publisher. I’m under no obligation and my review has not been solicited. Highly recommend!

You will find yourself back in Sanctuary at the wild animal reserve in this second book in the series. Unfortunately, the attacks are continuing on the Sanctuary as well as the people who love it.

The characters in the story are so sweet. The main characters are Paradise and Blake. They are still working on their relationship amidst all of the attacks on them. The real stars of the book are Jenna, Blake's mom, and her sons Levi and Isaac. They have such a love for the animals and those around them. Plus they love food and desserts!

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.

I loved being back in Nova Cambridge with Paradise and Blake!! The storyline kept me just as intrigued as Ambush did.

After the dust finally settles from the events in Ambush, The Sanctuary finds itself being targeted—again. Blake knows that the property is valuable, but it appears other people do as well and they’ll stop at nothing to run him and his family off the land—including target Paradise specifically. Will Blake and Paradise be able to uncover the mystery of who is behind it all?

Listen—Colleen’s stories in this series are paced so well! She gives just enough information to make you speculate what’s going on, but not enough that you can guess who’s behind things and why. The books in this series have been like a puzzle that comes together slowly and satisfyingly!

Also, I was able to read this before bed without being freaked out. There aren’t tons of gory details or extremely creepy scenes. I appreciate that she keeps things light in that regard while still delivering an enthralling read! I’m already missing this story and look forward to the next book in the series.

I jumped into this one prior to reading the first book, and I’m very intrigued to see what happened in Paradise past. While I’m curious, I did feel like this one could be read as a standalone. It follows Paradise and Blake and focuses primarily on the Sanctuary. A lot of things go wrong at this sanctuary and I really enjoyed how the author tied everything back to the sanctuary. So much happens in this small town, and I really enjoyed following the crumbs, clues, and danger to the main culprit. I really enjoyed seeing some of the kids' interactions with the wildlife at the sanctuary. It really brought out those scenes and made me smile. The narrator, Karen Peakes did a good job portraying all of the characters in the book. The tones and inflections used were great. As the story progressed, I was able to distinguish the main characters.

A very special thanks to Libro.fm + Thomas Nelson for the gifted ALC.

This one had me switching back and forth between “aww, I love these characters” and “WHY IS EVERYONE IN DANGER ALL THE TIME?” A dead worker in a tiger enclosure, a tranquilizer gun murder, shady business motives, missing DNA results, break-ins—my audiobook app was basically sizzling.
Blake and Paradise brought the emotional warmth while the plot brought… well, chaos. So much chaos. The narration hits the mystery, the tension, and the tenderness with equal skill, and I was hooked from start to finish.

Wow!! Y’all, there is so much going on in this book! I had to really pay attention because I didn’t want to miss a single detail. I recommend listening to or reading the first book in the series so you can fully appreciate what’s happening to the characters and what’s going on in the wildlife reserve. There are twists and turns I did not see coming, and that’s one of the reasons this author is a favorite of mine. The narrator is fantastic!

I was given a copy of this book by Thomas Nelson Publishers, and this is my honest opinion.

Did you know that a pack of lemurs is called a conspiracy? I had no clue either, but I absolutely love how the author included animal facts throughout the story. Not only was “Prowl” educational, it was also filled with hair raising suspense, intense plot twists, and intriguing characters. This novel was a true pleasure to read and I can’t wait for the third installment of the Sanctuary series to be released.

The problem I have with Prowl is that is refers back to events in the first book without details of events. I was lost and could not follow the storyline. Wow! Who knew you could be taken on a roller coaster ride at an animal sanctuary park? and I loved every minute. There was a lot going on and with this being book two I have missed out on some of the backstory but that won't happen again or with the next book. Even with beginning with this book I still found the story easy to follow but I think I might have missed out on a good story and will have to correct that, I enjoyed it that much. To start with, the setting is unusual and while the animals themselves don't really have a role to play in the story they are the focus of all the drama, with somebody trying to take the sanctuary away. I normally wish the author would stick to the investigation but the sanctuary and home life drama was so tightly sound up in the story that I found it all captivating and I cared what happened to the characters, hence the roller coaster of emotions I experienced as the story unfolded. The story is categorised as a Second-Chance Romantic Suspense which normally would have put me off, as I am not a big fan of romance, I am glad the blurb caught my fancy because I would have missed out on a great story and it so much more than that. There was several mysteries going on with a new murder, sabotage and cold case murders. Most of them did get solved but there is a long running story surrounding Paradise parents deaths and the secrets they left behind that carries on to the next book, which is why I will defiantly be looking out for the next book.

The sanctuary has been struggling but when one of the tigers kills a volunteer, Paradise and her boyfriend Blake fear the worse for the family run business but it's about to get a lot worse. The autopsies reveals the volunteer was drugged before being left in the tiger cage. Is somebody trying to get them to sell the sanctuary by sabotaging it? At the same time somebody is leaving Paradise creepy gifts, that she thinks they are connected to her parents murder. The sell of the sanctuary to Blake's family is also in question with the appearance of a will? Being attacked on several fronts has the couple scrambling to stay alive and to protect what they care most about and the only why to do that is by finding the will, solving a death that was written off as an accident and finding a killer.

I liked the narrator. She made the story roar to life with suspense and tension. I would listen to her again.
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

✨ 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒘𝒍 by 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞 ✨

𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒘𝒍 is the exciting sequel to 𝑨𝒎𝒃𝒖𝒔𝒉, so start there first if you haven’t read it yet!

Paradise and Blake are investigating a murder while grappling with the possible loss of their beloved sanctuary. Through this, they have to learn how to better navigate their relationship as a couple.

Meanwhile, as Paradise is adjusting to her new job, someone is also trying to scare her and stop her search for her long-lost brother.

Cuddly kittens, lemurs, and otters add a cute contrast to suspenseful scenes with some 𝑃ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑜𝑚 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑂𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑎 references sprinkled in. I especially liked the strong themes of faith over fear and trusting God’s plan while facing difficult circumstances.

I fell even more in love with Blake’s cute little brothers, Isaac and Levi, in this book and I’m excited to see what kind of adventures the Lawson family will face in Book 3 when it comes out.

𝑺𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈: A wildlife refuge in Nova Cambridge, Alabama

𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔:
✨Paradise Alden - Paradise remains an incredibly strong female lead in Prowl and struggles with how to balance her independence with Blake’s desire to protect her. She also continues her new journey of faith and learns some new spiritual lessons.

✨𝐵𝑙𝑎𝑘𝑒 𝐿𝑎𝑤𝑠𝑜𝑛 - Blake has several conflicts of his own and faces the question of whether he should do what’s right even if it means losing everything. I loved watching his growth as a character throughout this book.

𝑆𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑦 𝐸𝑙𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠:
Trusting God’s plan through trials / forgiveness / traumatic past / healing / romance / courage and bravery / faith over fear / doing the right thing no matter what it may cost you

I enjoyed this second book in the Sanctuary series. However, I felt like this book was a lot heavier on the romance than the previous one. It was still clean, but I feel like there was way more kissing than perhaps necessary. This is probably more my issue than the authors. That being said, I will still read anything that Colleen Coble writes. She is a true favorite of mine.

There were several plots/subplots woven throughout the story to keep me guessing who the villain or villains were, which kept me engaged and turning pages. I like how the author develops her characters and intertwines them from other books. It was nice to have Hez & Savannah make an appearance as well, showing how interconnected the family remains. I like how the author focuses so much on family and the importance of both found family and family by birth. This book was pretty light on the faith content, but it was still present in moments. I am looking forward to the next installment of this series.

Thank you to Netgalley and Thomas Nelson for allowing me to read this advanced copy. This is my honest review.

If you haven't read the first book then make sure you do so before diving into this one as it will continue the storyline and pick up where the ending left off. Paradise and Blake are still working at the animal sanctuary although Paradise has now become the vet in town and has moved to town as well leaving a very nervous Blake in the sanctuary.

Right away this book starts with suspense as we encounter a body in the tiger enclosure and once again Blake and his family go through bad publicity as they try to keep the sanctuary open even though the odds are and keep stacking up against them.

I am not going to give you too much, just know that this is one of those books and series that keeps those pages turning because you want to know what happens. It has great characters, a great storyline filled with suspense and romance.

I cannot wait for the third book in the series so I can see what happens and how it all ends!!

I received a copy of this book for review. All views expressed are my own.

This is a favorite author of mine, and I was excited to read an advanced copy of a new to me series. This book didn’t feel quite the same as those of the past.

Usually, when reading books in a series, the author will recap or recount so those who haven’t read the first book(s) don’t struggle with the story or characters. If you have not read book one, you will be at a disadvantage. I struggled with the first third of this book multiple times in each chapter. When there was an explanation, it was too short and abrupt and didn’t provide enough to fill the gaps. And many times there was no explanation. The mentions took me out of the story, trying to figure out things, names and relationships I didn’t know (ex: Hez).

The book did get past that and allowed you to fully focus on this story. But that was a struggle for me as well, because I never fell into the story. I almost marked this as a DNF, but it is a mystery and I wanted to know who did it.

I felt the timeline had continuity hiccups, again taking me out of the story, and the pace and storytelling was forced. The natural development of the story and events just didn’t seem to flow easily as it has with past books, and faith was more of an after completion insertion, not a fundamental foundation.

I believe if I had read book 1 my experience would have been different. My overall review is 3.5 because it is a good, unique story, and it will not stop me from finding book 1 and then reading book 3 upon release.
