Gripping and unsettling, this supernatural thriller peels back the layers of morality, memory, and fate, where even the best intentions can lead to terrifying ends.
3.5☆ Karma Butterflies is the first book that I have read by Jeremy Fulmore, and it will not be the last. What I did not realize is that Karma Butterflies is the continuation of the story of Jake Coltrane; however, I found that not having read the previous books was not necessary.
I received a free copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you Mr. Fulmore, Goodreads and the publisher.
The synopsis for this book provides the reader with only half of the story. Part I introduces the reader to Adonis (Don) Silver, a genius teen. The storyline follows Don on his discovery of how The Eye can be used. The power Don is given appears to be for the good, but Don begins to change. Part II tells the story of Jake Coltrane and his "demon," Sly. Jake has certain abilities that make him impossible to kill.
Karma Butterflies poses questions about good and evil, morally grey areas, and the nature of man. It makes the reader think.
The novel is both character and plot driven. I could not turn the pages fast enough.
Karma Butterflies by Jeremy Fulmore is a captivating and imaginative coming-of-age novel that blends grief, self-discovery, and the supernatural in a truly unforgettable way. The story follows 17-year-old Adonis Silver as he struggles to process the death of his beloved great-grandfather. While sorting through his great-grandfather’s belongings, Adonis stumbles upon a mysterious eyeball, an object that grants him the chilling ability to see into people’s lives, their futures, and even their sins.
What unfolds is a haunting yet heartfelt journey as Adonis is forced to confront not only the secrets of those around him, but also the darkness and light within himself. Fulmore’s writing is richly layered and atmospheric, pulling readers into a world where the lines between reality and the mystical blur in compelling ways. The eye becomes a powerful metaphor for truth, perception, and the weight of knowing too much.
Adonis is a deeply relatable protagonist. He is vulnerable, thoughtful, and grappling with emotions that feel authentic and raw. Fulmore doesn’t just give us a supernatural thrill; he offers a poignant exploration of loss, legacy, and the consequences of seeing people for who they truly are.
Karma Butterflies is a rare gem. It’s equal parts eerie and uplifting, imaginative and emotionally grounded. It’s the kind of book that makes you reflect on what you carry from the past and how it shapes your path forward. Jeremy Fulmore has delivered a bold, original story that lingers long after the last page. A solid five-star read.
This book was so difficult to put down. Finding a single eye ball in a box after great-grandfather passed away Don is trying to find out why his great-grandfather would have such a thing. Come to find out this is no normal eye. With this eye, Don is able to see things he never could before. This book had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. This ending felt like a cliffhanger. Please tell me Jeremy Fulmore is writing another book to follow!!!
