Detective Nickie Savage is neck-deep in a murder case when she learns that Jun Zheng, the human trafficker who abducted her when she was 14, is back in business. Even more alarming, Nickie's first-class boyfriend, Duncan Reed, is pressing for a permanent relationship. Nickie decides to dive into Zheng's spidery operation, intent on locating and freeing the girls caught in the human trafficker's sticky web, only to discover that Zheng was the one who spun the gossamer truth that's keeping her and Duncan apart. It's not uncommon to find dark chocolate squares in R.T.'s candy dish, her Golden Retriever at her feet and a few caterpillars spinning their cocoons in the terrariums on her counters. R.T. was born and raised in the Midwest, the youngest of six children. She married at a young age and decided early on she wanted a family herself. With three small boys in tow, she and her husband flipped two houses with R.T. in charge of the landscape design and install. Now, she is rooted in the final home they designed inside and out.
Now that her boys are nearly grown, R.T. spends much of her time on the road traveling from one sporting event to another serving as mom and cheerleader. When at home, she enjoys Pilates, working with her Golden Retriever and digging in the glorious dirt of her landscaping plots.
During one of many busy and restless nights, R.T.’s first novel began to pluck its way onto her laptop. It was a drug, an instant addiction that only grew with time. Moments borrowed and stolen at her laptop are, now, between all of the travel and work and many of those busy, restless nights. After several edits, revisions and versions later R.T.’s first novel, Black Creek Burning, was published by Crimson Romance on September 24th.
R.T. has been honored to be in the top 5 of the Goodreads New Authors to Read list, a guest on USA Today's Happy Ever After blog and my trailer is nearing 1,000 hits. The book has earned a 4.8 star rating on Amazon.
Nickie is still fighting crime and her past. Duncan stands by his woman. I like the role reversal, with Nickie being law enforcement, and Duncan the artist. Though, Duncan is former military, and protects himself and when needed, Nickie as well. Big changes are on the horizon for these two as a couple. I appreciated the author taking a mature option with a compromising situation, and didn’t add extra drama where it wasn’t needed. That route is taken often in other books, and it was refreshing to see trust in a relationship at work.
Nikki is caught in the case when she learns the same man that abducted her, Zheng is holding other girls hostage. Without a thought to herself, she goes all out to locate them. Trying to redeem herself for those she left behind when she escaped. The love for Duncan is growing, but she won’t commit, if he’s not at home, she still stays at her own place. Readers will love this continuing story of Savage and what haunts her.
The books in this series are quick reads because they're fast paced and tough to put down. There is plenty of mystery, crime and romance.
I love Nickie and Duncan and the fact that their relationship was established when the series started. You don't have to go through all the stuff involved in starting a new relationship and get right to the guts of the book.
I recommend this series and wonder why R. T. Wolfe didn't continue writing.
I love this series. Nickie is such a great character. She's damaged from her past but works so hard for justice. Duncan is wonderful. He loves Nickie so much and is there to support her. In this book we got to see some different sides to Duncan. We saw him impatient and without his usual self-confidence. We saw Nickie and accept things that have been difficult for her. They are chasing Zheng, the man responsible for Nicke's abduction, teenage life and life after she got away. both Duncan and Nickie want him dead. The chase was well done. What we learn makes sense and sets up future books. Overall, this was a great read. I read it in one sitting and can't wait for the next installment.
Loved this book so much! You know when you have a series that you've read every single installment and you get a little giddy that a new book is out, and you can't wait to get it and sink into the characters, or the setting, or the plot, or whatever it is that makes you love it? That's how I am with the Nickie Savage series! I was so excited when this book came out, and I read it in 3 days. Love Nickie and Duncan. They know each other so well, and despite that, they love the idiosyncrasies of the other. The author treats us to suspense, love, and action just as she always does. Does NOT disappoint!
Nickie Savage is one of those female lead characters who will be remembered for years to come. She is a consistent heroine who fights for social justice while balancing struggles of her own. We first met Nickie in RTs Black Creek Series, and because she is so strong - she is deserving of her own series. Well done on book two, the story is enticing, Duncan is as heroic as ever, and the plot is nicely planned and the prose is well phrased.
nickie gets her man...in fact, she gets both her men..her lover becomes her fiancee and the man who ran the sex slave ring he forced her into comes after her but she wounds him and takes him into custody instead. Nicole finds out there still At least one person at the station keeping tabs on her and that the first fbi men sold her out to the slave ring....and her parents...well...there's still a 4th book coming and where did her parent's money come from?
