One photographer who needs money—fast. One movie star with an offer as tempting as his bad boy smile.

Hailey Summer, a photographer who has remortgaged her entire life in order to follow her dreams, needs more time. As the eldest of four girls, her self-appointed job has always been to solve everyone’s problems—including holding onto the family’s historic cottage that’s precious to all of them. But with the cottage about to be seized for back taxes, Hailey’s going to have to confront more than just the family members she’s kept in the dark.

When movie star Finian Alexander closes his eyes he sees is his family’s destitute past and the unfulfilled promises he’s made to others. Only a fraction away from making the A-list food chain and fulfilling his promises, Finian needs help from the paparazzi to push his next “bad boy of Hollywood” escapade into the limelight. Problem is he’s in the Canadian Muskokas and the only photographer he’d consider partnering with slaps him every time he deserves it—which is increasingly often as he becomes more desperate.

Will Hailey and Finian give in to the easy way out of their problems, or will they discover how alike they truly are when they hit the tabloids—together?

This is the first book in the Summer Sisters beach read contemporary romance series.

Heads up. A couple readers have messaged me that Love and Rumors by Jean Oram is not a clean read. It was posted as a free book on Monday on cleanwholesomeroman.com. There is a lot of language in it. The door closes but not until clothes are off and hands are wandering. Sorry! I was told everything is off screen but this can't qualify as clean by CWR's standards. This fits in the moderate category. Sorry for unknowingly "burning" a few of you :(

Audio/Ebook Review: Love and Rumors (The Summer Sisters, #1) by Jean Oram (Author), Vanessa Moyen (Narrator)

Can a hot mess turn into a lifetime of happiness? Love and Rumors is one of those stories that is guided by laughter and structured with heart. Oram has a penchant for whimsical storytelling. Finian and Hailey are a pocketful of nonsense that brings a handful of sunshine to light up life. Clueless and chaotic spells a heartwarming bundle of fun. Irresistibly in love.

Hailey Summer is the oldest of the Summer sisters, and the one her mother, incapacitated by a stroke, asked to take on the responsibility of keeping their island cottage in the family, as it has been for generations. Unfortunately, her mother had to pass it on to her with back taxes owing. Her younger sisters don't know this, and they don't realize, because Hailey hasn't told them, that the taxes have gone up a lot in recent years. The reason for protecting her sisters from this is that they were in school. Now they're all out, and working. But Hailey is still protecting them, and keeps convincing herself that she can't tell them what's going on. She's trying to make her career as an art photographer, not a commercial photographer, but in the short term, of course, that's less profitable in the short term.

Finian Alexander is a Hollywood actor, who stars in action movies, and has a carefully cultivated bad boy reputation. Taking a vacation in a small Canadian town where there's no trouble to get into, because he needs a break from that, is getting him less attention from the tabloids faster than he anticipated. His agent is annoyed with him, and he's worried himself. He needs is currently profitable career because he's made big promises to his home town, to his family, and to a variety of charities, to raise the money to solve the problems that plagued his family when growing up.

Hailey needs to save the cottage from a tax sale. Finian needs some bad boy pictures to boost his tabloid coverage again.

Hailey has almost convinced herself to compromise her artistic and ethical standards to stalk the bad boy actor until she catches him in behavior that will give her the shots she needs to sell to a tabloid for big bucks.

It would seem they could cooperate and both benefit, if they didn't both keep stumbling over both their principles, and their desire to be seen by the other as a real person, not, on Finian's part, the bad boy image, and on Hailey's part, the rather hostile image of the money-hungry, cynical paparazzo.

Oram manages this quite neatly and believably, with bonus points for not having anyone be overly stubborn about insisting on doing stupid things because the plot requires it. As an older sister myself, I found Hailey's certainty that asking her younger sisters for help would make her a shameful failure as an older sister all too natural and believable. (No, that doesn't mean her sisters, or for that matter mine, would agree with that, or necessarily react that way. It's just a thing that can happen inside your own head when you've been the older sister and proxy parent much of your life.) Even Hailey's ex-boyfriend and real cutthroat paparazzo, Austin, turns out to have real depth and interest to him.

This is a light, fun romance, with no purpose but being entertaining, but it's just better written, and therefore more satisfying, than it needs to be for that purpose. I'm glad I listened to it.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author, and am reviewing it voluntarily.

A wonderful story and the beginning of what I am sure will be a fantastic series. In this book author Jean Oram introduces us to the Summer sisters and specifically the oldest sister, struggling photographer Hailey. Hollywood bad boy Finian Alexander needs publicity to help boost his fledgling career. When these two meet they are both surprised with what they find in the other. This story is very well written with an interesting group of characters. I can't wait to read the next in this series. I highly recommend this book.

It is not okay to hit someone unless you are defending yourself. Yet, the main character Hailey repeatedly slaps Finn over some pretty stupid stuff. If a man slapped a woman in a book, people would get upset. The reverse should also be true. While I liked many parts to the story, Hailey's refusal to communicate causes most of her issues and her slapping Finn when she got upset made her seem like a witch. It's hard to like a book when you don't like a main character.

I really enjoyed this first book of a new series from Jean. If you were expecting a book like her other ones, be surprised. This is the first of four books about the Summer Sisters. In this first book, we are introduced to Hailey. Hailey is the oldest and has been in charge of the Summer's island cottage. She has made some choices that affect this cottage and her sisters, but refuses to share with her sisters. Hailey tries to fix everything by going against her personality and beliefs and try to take a picture of bad boy actor Finian.

Hailey is in for the surprise of her life when trying to get that perfect picture. Finian does not know what "hits" him when he meets Hailey. Both learn something new about themselves and each other.

Looking forward to book 2.

I downloaded this on a stuff your airpods day in early fall without much thought. It's romance and I didn't look at descriptions before downloading. I just went for it.

Haley is a small town Canadian girl just trying to get by being a photographer, which she loves, and supporting her sisters and their family island house which has been passed down from generation to generation for 100 some years. When the house is threatened to be sold at auction due to a hefty amount of back taxes that need to be paid, Haley panics and decides maybe she can sell her soul and become a paparazzi, getting photos of her celebrity crush Finn while he's out and about on their island. He's got a bad boy reputation after all and is going through a breakup. Finn would really like to stay relevant and get the next part he really wants and for that, he needs to be in the tabloids. Haley has been following him around, perhaps they can use one another.

This couldn't end quickly enough for me. I couldn't stand either of the characters, though Haley was less annoying than Finn. He was just so phony and in need of an identity makeover. This one just didn't do it for me at all.

I listened to the audio version of this book. It was light and a simple story. The hero, Finian, was a movie star. I really tend to not like books with movie stars. He was definitely acting like someone he wasn't. He had a "bad boy" image to maintain, so he did some rude obnoxious things. The heroine, Hailey was much more down to earth, but she had her faults too.
I loved that Hailey saw the real Finian and that he eventually started letting more normal actions be seen. Hailey did some things that just about brought an end to their relationship. She also kept things from her family that nearly cost them dearly. She definitely has some growing up to do.
The narration of this book by Vanessa Moyen was a little lacking in the pacing of the sentences, but everything else was fine.

Hailey is a Canadian photographer, Finian is a Hollywood action star. Hailey is looking for a solution for her money problems, Finian wants his picture in the tabloids. Collaborating could solve both their problems but it gets complicated because of artistic differences and falling in love.

It's a sweet story but I couldn't get behind Hailey's motivation for keeping secrets from her sisters. That just seemed stupid.

From reading other reviews, it looks like this book (or some version of it) was previously published as Love and Rumors. Please don't do that. If you publish the same book over again, at least keep the name so people know it's the same book over again. Besides, Falling for the Movie Star is not an improvement for the title.

(luisterboek)

Small town romance
Finian Alexander is a B list movie star on vacation in Muskoka, in order to stay in the Public Eye (and ensure the jobs keep rolling in) he must play up to his bad boy image and keep being written up in the tabloids. Unfortunately that is proving difficult, everyone is so polite and opportunities to break the rules in front of paparazzi cameras are just not occurring. Perhaps he can persuade nature photographer Hailey Summer to help him out?
Hailey is desperate to earn big money to pay back taxes on the cottage on Nymph Island that she and her sisters own. So desperate that she has been considering going against her principles and turning paparazzo, but despite stalking him for days she has nothing. When he approaches her in a bar, she finds his cockiness both exiting and a turn off and ends up slapping him. This is the beginning of a relationship between them and the more Hailey gets to know him, the more she doesn't understand why he hides the "real" him.
This is a sweet story about being true to oneself and standing up for what you believe in. The book also introduces the other Summer sisters who feature in the following books - Maya, Melanie, Daphne and her 5 year old daughter Tigger (real name Kim).

A cute read. I wanted to bash their heads together a few times so they would communicate a bit more but it was enjoyable. The book, not the wanting to bash their heads together.

(Now known as Falling for the Movie Star)

"One picture.
One tabloid.
Two lives changed forever."

▪︎SYNOPSIS▪︎
Finian Alexander is one scandalous tabloid photo away from catapulting his acting career onto the A-list. All his bad boy persona needs is an agreeable member of the paparazzi to give him a friendly boost. But vacationing out in the middle of nowhere, the only photographer he knows is way too scrupulous for her own good.
Or is she?
Hailey Summer is desperate for cash—so desperate that she's willing to do just about anything with her photography skills to save her family's cottage and keep her secrets hidden from her sisters. So when sexy and arrogant movie star Finian makes her an offer, Hailey can't resist. But does his proposition take things too far? And when their plans begin to unravel, will Finian and Hailey find the limelight too blinding?

▪︎MY REVIEW▪︎
Well this was an easy, fun read! At first I was a little unsure whether this would be my kind of romance, as I can be hit and miss when it comes to celebrities or influencers but this was really good. It's not a smutty book, but more a slow burn romance, with also family relationships and finding your true self.

Hailey is very talented when it comes to her and her art/photography, but she definitely has the whole world resting on her shoulders. You can feel the tension off her in the book. She is very funny and love the banter she has with everyone, strangers and people she's close too. Finnian is your typical brooding bad boy, but in fact there's a hell of a lot more to him than his movie persona.
These two together are just intense and funny. I wanted to smack there heads together a hell of a lot mind.

This book is very well written and I'm glad I found it at the charity shop, it was certainly a good find. The plot leaves you on your toes and theres plenty of twists and wtf moments too!
This was just a nice quick, fun read and I definitely recommend.

Jean Oram, why have I not listened to you before? I love this book, it's fun, flirty and a little steamy, but the main thing I love about this book are the characters. Finian is an actor who is comes to Canada to get away from the public eye while trying to decide what he wants out of his life. When he meets Hailey, a wildlife photographer, he finds it. But life is never that easy. With his bad boy reputation, and very public breakup from an arranged relationship, it's hard to think this larger than life personality would be interested in small town Hailey. Hailey has her own set of problems to deal with, and throw this man, who turns out to be nothing like his public persona, into the mix, and things get more complicated. Jean Oram has really written a fun story, the characters are very likable and I found myself invested in the outcome of their predicaments. We get to meet parents and sisters, and Tigger(who is adorable!) and I can't wait to hear more from this famiy.

This new adult novel needs a narrator who can voice young, old and child, and Vanessa Moyen fits the bill. Her voice is perfect for this book and I enjoyed her performance.

Audio book review
This is book 1 of a new series. Loved it. The author knows how to write stories that have a pull you in. You won’t want to put it down till the end . I can connect to the story since it takes place in my home Province .

Hero is Finian. A movie star . Heroine is Hailey oldest of all the sisters who is a local photographer.

Finian is vacationing in Muskoka Canada , He took off from LA when he broke of with his love . Finian is having a quite time in Ontario. He can’t believe how quiet it is up in Muskoka . He needs to do something to get his picture in the tabloids so the industry doesn’t forget him .
Hailey is in a bind . . The family house (cottage) might be taken away from them for not paying property taxes by the government. Hailey needs to do something drastic and that will pay lots. She gets an idea....take a shot of Finian doing some down and dirty and sell it to the tabloids. Only thing is she’s not that type of reporter.

While both Hailey and Finian are trying to do something, one thing leads to another and sparks start to fly .

Does Hailey achieve her goal. Does she save the home

Judging a book by its cover...or how the tabloids may exaggerate the reality. Or what you see is not necessarily what you get. That's the theme of this contemporary romance about 'bad boy' Hollywood actor, Finian Alexander, and Hailey Summer, an artistic nature photographer who is considering becoming a paparazzo for money to save her family's vacation home from being sold for back taxes. She's just waiting for the man to slip up and do something bad while he's in Muskoka, Ontario so she can cash in.

Finn just wants to climb into the A-list column to help his family and fund his charities, but can a photographer with scruples and an actor who is pretending to bad really mesh? And can a love grow from their interactions? Especially when their inner core is different from all outward appearances?

Finding they are more alike than different is at odds with their present reality, and Hailey likes the softer side, the real side of Finn...and she sets out to prove it, but will it cost her everything? Her home? His love?

To save her family’s cottage, Hailey needs to make a lot of money and fast. For that, she is willing to sell Finian out, a movie star on vacation in her hometown. What she did not expect was to fall in love with said actor…
I have no idea what it entails to be a celebrity. It seemed odd that Finian had to keep the charities and scholarships he had created and was helping a secret, as well as that his agent was adamant he needed to cater a bad-boy image to be someone. Like Hailey, I did not understand why he could not be himself. To me, though I understand the pressure Finian was under, it gave the impression that he received bad advice for very long and got manipulated in a life he did not really want by people who did not overly care about him. Even though it was sometimes difficult to relate to the characters, it was interesting to read about the conflicts both Finian and Hailey went through to finally find themselves.
Enjoy getting to know this couple and how they overcome their issues.

“I was like an invisible soul no one had noticed for years. And then there you were. Seeing me.”

I truly enjoyed Love and Rumors. It’s a very sweet, funny and heartwarming tale. It’s about two people feeling like they have the weight of the world resting on their shoulders and them not wanting to let anyone down. About learning to open oneself up to other possibilities, sharing the burden and finding one’s self again.
Finian and Hailey partner up in hopes of solving both their problems. What started out as them using each other as a means to an end quickly develops into something more when love steps in.
Hailey tries to deny the attraction but the more she uncovers the true Finian the deeper she falls.
Just when she starts to let her walls come down Hollywood comes knocking and threatens to tear them apart.
The conclusion to Finian and Hailey’s whirlwind romance left me wanting more. I can’t wait to find out what destiny has in store for Maya. (4.5⭐️)

Hailey Summer is an aspiring artist stuck in a difficult situation. Finian Alexander is an actor whose bad guy persona is what is keeping him with movie offers and he is needing a ‘bad boy’ boost.
They agree to work together but things get a little personal and both end up discovering differing options to what they want to accomplish. Will they continue with their plan or will the other options be better but will it make things worse? And will they let their personal feelings get in the way?
I enjoyed this story. I liked how Finn felt he needed to hide his true self just to get a role. I loved how Hailey wanted to protect her family and hide them from the ossicle loss of their family home.
The ‘love talk’ made me uncomfortable at times. It wasn’t as clean as I like it but I did enjoy the book.
And thank you to Jean for letting me listed to it for an honest review!

I had so much fun reading this book. Okay, fine. Technically I was listening to it, but that doesn’t change the fact that I still enjoyed the story. Did I want to take Hailey and Finn and shake some sense into them? On more than one occasion? Absolutely! Did I want them to behave like responsible adults and use their words to have a meaningful conversation once in a while? Without question. But those irritating little habits made Hailey and Finn feel all the more human. They kept me laughing. Now that I’ve been introduced the quirky group who are the Summer Sisters, I’m excited to read more. And being a Canadian girl, I really appreciated all the local color – including our Monopoly money.

Can she trust a bad boy with her heart?

Hailey Summer is a failure at everything except photography. She made a promise to her mother if she doesn’t come up with a way to earn some big money she will lose everything she promised to save. Can she compromise her ideals and become a paparazzi to get the money she needs?

Finian Alexander is almost close enough to grab the brass ring in his movie career but his agent says he needs more tabloid exposure if he wants to make the A-List. Maybe coming to Canada was a mistake? He really thought the cute redhead with the camera was his ticket to the tabloids but no matter how many photo ops he gives her she doesn’t take the bait.

This is a cute romance with a happy ending.

This book and storyline was ok, but I found myself having a hard time connecting with the characters. Movie star goes to a small town to escape life for a while, but while there tries to build his “bad boy” reputation. He meets a local girl and starts to fall for her, but not before he tries to play out a hidden agenda to get her to help him into the tabloids. I guess I never bought the “bad boy” persona or Finian even asking Hailey to be his personal paparazzi. I feel like maybe I missed something. I did not find the secondary characters developed enough either and then the last chapter was built around preparing us for the second book. ⭐️⭐️
