Tangled

****New Adult Contemporary Romance**** Attracting, repelling, and colliding, their chemistry—to say the least—is explosive. Strangely, it isn’t with the one who held her heart, but his asshole of a best friend, who will stop at nothing to keep them apart. “I’ll let you in on a little secret. Do you want to know why he’s sidelined you?” His gaze meandered over her head, sweeping the vicinity before bending down conspiratorially. His lips ghosted her ear. “Your type is merely the intermission before the grand finale,” he said in a low, smoke-rasped voice. “A dirty little secret. A warm hole to bang out and blow his load before moving on to something more refined. Stop wasting your time.” And on that note, he ambled off, leaving her adrift in a scrim of self-doubt and cannabis smoke. ***Due to strong language, drug use, and sexual content, this is not intended for readers under the age of 18.****

3.5--Drama Filled--Stars!!!

Whoever said there wasn't cheating in this book....

It may have been "loosely" cheating but still.

Add to that the fact that it was a drama/angst filled back and forth love triangle, yeah...

I tend to avoid these types of books like the plague but apparently I was in an angsty mood; because I actually liked this one.

IDK why but it seemed long as hell. Every time I checked my %, it had barely moved. So it was a slower read for me. But for the most part, I liked the characters and the story.

The three sides of the love triangle are compromised of Tessandra (Tess), Cameron and Adonis.

Tessandra grew up poor until her mom married rich and she landed in a hoity toity private school with Cam and Adonis.

Cameron is Tess' best friend, who took Tess under his wings and showed her the way. In the process Tess fell in love with him.

Adonis was also Cam's best friend. They grew up together. Cam always bailing Adonis out of trouble. There was absolutely ZERO LOVE lost between Adonis and Tess.

They had a middle school relationship of sorts....where the boy acts like he hates the girl by picking on her, when really he likes her.

Adonis

So while some of his behavior could be justified, some of it couldn't.

But call me crazy, I still had a soft spot for Adonis.

The rest of the book was a whole lot of back and forth between Tess and Cameron and Adonis. But it was entertaining and eventually we made our way to a HEA.

I'm not going to lie, there were an over abundance of typos which were a bit distracting. Hey, maybe that's why it took me so long to read the book.

Anyways, if you like drama and angst and a good 'ole love triangle then I recommend giving this one a go. It had some lol moments and some steam.

5 Stars (Originally Read 11/17/2014)

3 Stars (Re-Read 10/10/2017)

Overall Opinion: Welp...this is yet another example of me asking myself “what was I thinking?!” when doing a re-read. I had previously rated it 5 Stars! 🤦🏻‍♀️ I did enjoy their relationship and felt like they were meant to be, but I really struggled with the pacing and the Cameron character. I also wanted more! I am not at all satisfied with the ending, and I’m not sure how I could’ve been back then either. I think maybe the... . 🤷🏻‍♀️ I am going to take this off my favorites shelf, because I sadly didn’t love it this time reading it.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Tess and Adonis’s story. They’ve known each other for years, because they are both best friends with Cameron. Adonis ends up joining Cameron after a bad OD episode at his college where Tess also attends, and she isn’t upset by this because they hate each other. Tess is finally ready to cross the line with Cameron and change their friendship into something more, but Cameron isn’t sure he wants to change their relationship. One drunken night with Tess being dismissed again ends with a steamy encounter between Tess and Adonis. The more she learns about him, the more she realizes that he isn’t the guy she had made him out to be. There are some hot sexy times, some drama, and some sad moments...and they get a HFN ending.

POV: This alternated between focusing on Tess and Adonis (and some other side characters) in 3rd person narrative.

Overall Pace of Story: Not so great tbh. I did get bored at the beginning and skimmed some. I also was frustrated with the abrupt ending.

Instalove: No, they’ve known each other for years. More of a hate-to-love type relationship.

H rating: 3.5 stars. Adonis. He’s hard to take at first because he is a major jerk, but once we learn what all is going on with him it isn’t hard to start to like him.

h rating: 3.5 stars. Tess. I appreciated her strength, and how she cared about those close to her.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed (but I think I cried the first time)

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Hot. They have some hot tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: Yes and no

OW/OM drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: Not descriptive

Cheating: Yes

Separation: Not really. Once they become a couple they stay together.

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This ended abruptly with what I would call a HFN ending. I felt left hanging with no concrete commitments made or any glimpse into their future. They have shared “ILYs” though.

How I got it: I got it with my scribd subscription.

Safety: This one is probably Not Safe for most safety gang readers

I enjoyed Tangled thoroughly, enough to warrant a rare 4 star from me.
The H has a tortured broken soul. He's a total douche and if it wasn't in his POV as well, I definitely wouldn't have been able to finish the book. The blurb is accurate. It's not a light read. No lovey dovey stuff here. I had some issues with the heroine, editing, and other small things but nothing that I couldn't overlook. I didn't want the book to end. Just wanted to revel in the intensity of their connection for another 200 pages. I can't wait for more from this author.

Adonis & Tess
description description

Tangled has everything I love in a romance: love-triangle, friend-zone, flawed bad boy, angst, forbidden romance, hate at first sight, addiction, strong heroine. This book was HOT! I loved the characters. Their chemistry was FIERY and INTENSE! The angst hurt SO good! The author laid out all of the elements I enjoy in a love story, nicely. I'm giving this 5 stars because I absolutely loved reading it. Initially, I was debating between 4 and 5, but decided to go with my heart. The writing is on a higher end of literature than most books in the NA Romance genre, which was refreshing because I don't come across it that often, so I welcomed it. It needs a pinch of editing, but not so much that it affected my reading experience or swayed my focus. A few times, during scene transition, I paused trying to follow the multiple third person pov, but I loved reading this book so much that I was willing to overlook all of it for it's sweet agony. ✰✰✰✰✰

I love love love this story! I have to admit I may be a little biased in that I have read (and loved) versions of this story before and seen its progression over the years, but I'm proud to say it has been streamlined into a brilliant novel. I love all of the characters, especially Tess, who remains so strong and independent despite all of the challenges that arise throughout the book. The story is very well-written and the progression is incredibly realistic. The chemistry and interactions between the main characters are intense and steamy and perfect. Highly recommend this book if you're looking for a good, fun, and occasionally intense read!

ENEMIES TURN LOVERS
5 Stars! Reread 11/19
I loved this book! To me there is nothing better then two people who hate each other and then fall in love. Opposites attract. Always a sexy bad boy out there needing to be saved by a girl who doesn't take his shit. The ending came to fast and now I'm wishing for more.

I will say that this book had a lot of editing issues....but it didn't stop me from reading it. I was up all night.

The blurb mentions something about chemistry being explosive...most definitely! I mean wowza! Sparks flying off the page with certain characters!!

Tess has been best friends with Cameron for 3 years. Cameron has a best buddy, Adonis who doesn't get along with Tess (to say the least). They are heading back to college for sophomore year and to Tess's surprise, Adonis joins them as one of Cam's roommates.

I am a huge fan of love triangles and this book put a new twist on it in my opinion! I'm also a huge fan of dual POV and Ms. Wolf hit is out of the park by writing all 3 POV's and at times we are reading through one of the secondary characters. Which are ALL amazing. The flow and general attitude of the book were more than super!!

I can't stress enough how HOT, scorching hot, this book is. I'm pretty sure I was fanning, drooling, and taking very large sips of ice cold water frequently! I don't want to mention character names as it may give too much away although I will say, there is NO cheating in this book. I know for some that can be a deal-breaker and in most love triangle books it's inevitable,,,NOT the case here. I also want to say there is an HEA! Squee!

I had a very hard time putting this book down and read it in 2 sittings. It's really amazing!! Thanks Em Wolf for super characters to lose yourself in for a bit!!

Needs major editing.

The heroine is very judgmental. Yes, when she finds out the truth she changes her negative behavior, but at that point I had did not like her and anything she did not change my opinion of her. I did not like her at all.

Too many people are introduced in this book from the beginning. It became too confusing. The writing should have focused on a few characters in the beginning.

Enemies to Lovers/Friends to Lovers

That is right up my ally. I love seeing these relationships blossom into something so much more. I crave for those first struggles of accepting unwelcome feelings, the build up tension and then the explosive bang at the end. I live for these stories. Sadly I'm rarely compensated for reading them. They usually leave a bad aftertaste after wasting hours reading horrible dialogue with even worse inter rambling monologue.

So you can imagine this was a delightful surprise. I loved the characters, their complexities and flaws, their ambiguity and realism. I savored the angst (which is a rare occurrence). I adored the tension, that uncertainty of what was to come. I relished in that feeling of terror that any time now the rug was about to be pulled from under me.

Definitely one of the better new adults out there.

Overlooked a lot to give this book 5 stars. Shoddy editing to name one. The beginning was shaky, and in particular I felt like I was reading people in their 30's trapped in teen bodies. The language used is superfluous and a tad-purplish. But you know what? As I went on, I found it unique to the author and entertaining. And the dialogue could totally be feasible teen-speak. There was great, explosive chemistry between Adonis and Tess, and I really appreciated side characters like Jade, Riley and Cameron. It's a shame this wasn't edited stringently, because it would bring in a whole sleuth of 4 & 5 stars. As it was, I gave it the benefit of doubt. Loved it xxx

Well, let's start by saying Cam, our hero's best friend, needs a new travel agent. Dubai is not in India! It's mentioned not once but twice.
I didn't like the heroine very much. She was always getting drunk and I had a problem with that. Every party involved getting smashed and she went to a lot of parties.
The hero, Adonis, was the salvation for this book. He is a drug addict with a mental illness and the parts of the story that dealt with his issues and how he tried to handle them is what made me keep reading.

Cue songs: Renegade and This is me Trying by Taylor Swift

"Lacing their fingers over her head, Adonis covered her mouth, pouring himself into the kiss.
"I want you, Tess," he growled into her mouth, his jackhammering heart threatening to hurtle through bone and tissue to reach her. "All of you. Now. Tomorrow. Until I don’t give a fuck."

Reading this book was an emotional roller-coaster for me. NA category has become very popular recently and a lot of books I read in the genre left me disappointed because they were badly written and I don't just mean editorial mistakes. They lacked what's most important - a good plot and credible characters. This book is an exception. It is very realistic. The characters are amazingly well developed. The depth of their emotions was something that hooked me on from the first chapter and never once let go till the very end. I congratulate this author on her first published work that made such an impact on me and judging from the reviews it received I am not the only one left impressed. Great job, Em Wolf!

And I cannot help noticing that it should have more reviews on Amazon and Goodreads, as some so called bestsellers get raving ones completely undeserved while truly good books lack them.

I loved this! So cute.. made me cry several times.. why? Because it made me realize i want that overload of sexiness in my life, sad times i know.

Adonis is just a beautifully broken bad boy, love you!

The chemistry Adonis and Tess shared is mindblowing.
Actually more like E X P L O S I V E.

Enemies turned into lovers. Now that's the shit i love in books. Why? Because it's always so intense filled with sexual tension and snarky comments. Who doesn't love that?

Should of been writing an essay instead of reading this, but oh well.. it was worth it.

3.75 rating!

4 delicious stars for Tangled by Em Wolf

This review contains some spoilers pertaining to the story. Read at your own discretion.

Meet Tess, best friends with Cameron, who Tess has a major school girl crush on. Now meet Adonis, also best friends with Cameron but who doesn't have a crush on (thankfully, lol). Sounds like a peachy trio, right? Not exactly, see both Tess and Adonis absolutely hate each other. Adonis makes her life a living hell when he's around and constantly keeps her on edge. In my honest opinion, I chose to believe that between all that animosity, lied a hidden desire between the two, some MAJOR sexual tension that in due time revealed itself. It's like the old saying goes, the boy who constantly picked on & teased the girl was the boy that had a huge crush on her. Thus proving the case with those two love birds.

A little history about this book. Tess thought Cameron was everything she could ever hope and dream for. Her best friend, her confidant, her crutch, her knight in shining armor. Cameron knew of her feelings towards him but kept her in friends only zone. One day Tess decides enough is enough and sets out to put all the cards on the cable, lay it all out on the line with Cam. She even treated herself to a delectable spa day, every nook and cranny plucked, waxed, blown out and polished. She even went as far as to purchase Cams favorite meal with a bottle of wine, all for this amazing, passion fueled night Tess imagined would happen. Everything was going right as planned, except that night it wasn't Cam who made her toes curl and cry out in complete ecstasy, it was the one guy she never thought in a million years would make her putty in his hands, that guy being Adonis.
After that night, Cam finally gave Tess what she wanted (or thought she wanted) for years, to be a couple. Exclusive. It's everything she wanted, right? Except after that passioned fueled night with Adonis, she starts questioning is Cam really what she wants?

“Just because you’re grateful to someone doesn’t mean you’re in love with.”

Tangled was entertaining, a lot of cat and mouse chasing (which I love), drama, wit, romance (the sex scenes were OK in my honest opinion, but they did get the job done, and the bathroom scene was HOT. The author did a good job in making me connect with Tess and Adonis (Cam on the other hand, I just couldn't warm up to.) The story was great, tons of heartbreaking and heartwarming moments which kept me involved and didn't taper off into boredom land. I do recommend this book if you like forbidden/love triangles with some angst and a nice dollop of drama to round it all out. :)

5 stars!

This book isn't at all what I expected. Usually I stray away from books with love triangle as the main theme because I always end up pitying one of the main characters, which always end up with me D.N.F-ing. I'm a sucker like that. But with this book, surprisingly that didn't happen. I genuinely love the Hero, Adonis (swoon) even if he's a mess. Most love triangle books have the same pattern, two boys -- one nice, caring, beautiful guy who treats the heroine like a queen while the other one is rude, crass, tatooed and super gorgeous, he's always rude to the heroine but hey, it's okay because he's hot!!!! That shit annoys me to death. In Tangled, sure Adonis is rude as hell but with a good, solid reason. The author didn't half-assed his backstory either. I love love that.

The author's writing style is also exceptionally beautiful. I'm really glad I picked up this book. ❤ So overall, I enjoyed this book.

5 STARS. NO REGRETS. AT ALL.

Beautiful story

Tess has been in love with Cameron for 3 years. Tess has made a mental deadline that she will finally tell her true feelings. What Tess doesn't know is that Cameron has invited his best friend to room with him. Adonis is hot and has dark issues and hates Tess. He thinks she is after his best friends money. This story is about hot sex, friendships, real love and mental illness awareness. Loved the story.

What did I think?

Cameron -> hate him;
Tess -> hate her;
Adonis -> deserved better.

For a second there I considered giving it a 2 star review, but nah. Not too happy about the end result.

Why can't I just find a good hate/love story to read? :(

3.5 to 4 stars--lol old me would have rated this 4 stars, I guess I am getting higher standards & expectations

This was a nice break from what I normally read. I haven't read a college book in a while too. Lol, Tess & her friends are having way more fun in college than myself at the moment.

I was wondering how the author was going to pull this book off because Tess and Adonis (I know, even the author pokes fun at the name through Tess) HATED each other in the beginning. Like they hated each other. Whenever they saw each other, insults were just traded right and left. Also, Tess & Cameron were dating at one point, and I was wondering how that was going to end.

Tess comes from a dirt poor background. However, when she was 16, her mother married a rich guy and they moved to Manhattan. She entered a rich preparatory school. Cameron took her under his wing as a kind of charity chase, unbeknownst to her, and his best friend Adonis thought Tess was a gold-digger so he disliked her and was always trying to warn Cameron away from her.

Tess decides to attend the same college as Cameron. She's been in love with Cameron for years, but he does not want to ruin the friendship though he has noticed how she's become a very attractive woman in recent years (lol). Adonis transfers to their university so Cameron can help Adonis with his drug problems. Tess's best friend Jade urges her to take matters into her own hands and seduce Cameron. Instead, Adonis is there...

Honestly, Adonis was a huge mess for most of the book. If I was Tess, yah...I would not be going for him. So I didn't ship it 100%. Also, I wanted her and Cameron to have sex already (they decided to date for a bit). If they had, she would have also had a further comparison to Adonis.

Also, Shoutout to me because this is my 50th book this year and it's only the middle of February! I remember seeing 47 books read on my challenge, and I was wondering what my next 3 books were that was going to make it to 50, but it went way too fast--maybe Goodreads made a mistake? lol

First order of business, this book needs to get a better cover and title. It is so much better than what you get at face value. I thought it would be some silly, bratty kids pissing away their parents money, doing drugs and sexing all over the place. They aren't even in high school anymore. They are sophomores in college who live and act like adult nearing 30. Their lives, decisions and actions were beyond their years and I loved their clique however cliched the view on college life was. It was a good and held it's own in the world of NA and college romance.

It's another one of the genetic crazies and you know how I love this type! I will admit that I was lost in the beginning and thought about quitting ... *knocks wood* ... something I have yet to do with a novel. I am glad I powered through though, because this is a diamond in the rough. Even though it ended with a HEA for two of our main characters, I wanted more. I wasn't ready to let go of Adonis and Tessandra yet.

I was a little hesitant with Adonis in the beginning because this novel skipped years of tension, friendship and changes to show us a smitten Tess, undecided Cameron and the douche druggie that is Adonis.

Yes, his name is pretentious, but so is the guy. He is crude, easy to hate and carries most of the sarcasm and levity of this novel from beginning to end. He is blunt, in your face and not afraid to wear his emotions on his sleeves. I loved that about him. Even when he wasn't coming down from a manic high, he had no problem voicing his thoughts.

I loved him even more closer to the end when he started to reveal his past and his current struggles. While not much of a fight for him, I liked when he fell in love and tried to be a better man. He didn't lose the Adonis we met in chapter 1 but his remarks were spun to give him a different angle and I love that they continued to bicker like enemies with all the benefits at the end :)

Their sex was passionate, rough, wild and a game of upstaging the other but it worked. Their personalities shined and there was never a dull moment. Tess is still a mystery to me because I don't understand why such an awesome girl would want to change even though I loved the different aspects of her personality and all her struggles with the parental figures in her life.

Cameron was the golden boy turn vindictive prick when things went south. He was however, right. He was smart, loyal, caring and got the bad end of the stick when the smoke clear. His character made for the best of friends even if he lacked in other areas. The fact that we got almost everyone's POV was good for the development of the story also.

This novel held a great cast of characters and I loved every one of them. Their camaraderie was evident and their friendships solid even when rocky. I was surprised to see such a vindictive side to Cameron towards the end of this novel but then I thought about it, every one in this novel had their hang ups and smoke screen mirrors in place in one aspect or another of their life.

For those adverse to cheating, I won't say it wasn't present, but it wasn't done in a tacky sense and if you were to get technical it could almost be seen as non existent. Tess and Cameron make great friends and to me some dynamics shouldn't be disturbed.

Adonis and Tess on the other hand have passion like no other and their relationship is unpredictable, wild and ever changing. We also got to see the struggles of Jade and Lance and spent some time with the Irish, Riley. At times I wavered with his sexuality, but for now, I'm gonna say he's straight.

They might be privileged teens trying to find their way through life while fighting through college and the events of their past but this came off more as New Adult than Young Adult. A lot is skipped and you will feel lost in the beginning trying to get your bearings right, but in the end, you'll come out with a great story of mental illness, love, drug abuse and unfortunately betrayal. They work it out but you can't help but wonder if there is more. I personally hope so :)

ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK!!
5 'Crazie' Stars!!!!!

This book contains every single quality I look for in a great story! Angst, love triangle, hot brooding bad boy, best friends, jealousy, and unrequited love just to name a few. Add in the authors writing style and this book was instant love for me!

Cameron and Tess have been best friends for years. Ever since Cam saved her from complete ruination at her new school where perception was everything.
That was the day she fell for him. Now years later she's just waiting for him to realize they belong together. But there's just one snag. And that snag happens to be his other best friend and resident asshole Adonis. Now back at college, Tess is not happy to find that Cam's new roommate happens to be the one and only resident asshole.
The verbal barbs Tess and Adonis share will leave you speechless! You can feel the hatred between the two in the beginning, but rest assured it doesn't stay that way. ;)

Yeah.........that's all your getting from me because I refuse to give anything away about this book! It's just one of those that you have to experience for yourself, it's that good!! Yes it had some grammatical errors but the story was so good I was able to overlook those. ;)
Now go get this book if you want to read a real kick ass angsty romance!

This was phenomenal. Everything about it. The storyline, the character development, the UNPARALLELED sexual tension in this book actually had me needing to put it down and gather my breath. This book was raw and real. Even written in 3rd person, this book did not have me feeling like I was removed from the story. Far from it, I felt as connected as I would had it been written in 1st.

The only thing I didn’t quite understand was the way the author wrote.... at many times seeming as though she did some serious dictionary diving. It seemed as though, throughout writing this whole thing, she took random words and looked up synonyms in the thesaurus to substitute. The bombastic choice of randomly-places words seemed out of place.

But no matter.... this was excellent. I didn’t come into this with high expectations and I was blown away.

And for that, I give this 5 stars. It’s got everything I love.

More than love this story!

I have not come across a story this well written in a very long time. The authors words are rich with deliberate meaning. She constructs descriptive sentences that put you exactly in front of the scene. I cannot rave enough about the writing style. There is such attention to detail and so much beauty in each detail. She definitely has a true and gifted passion for writing!
I really appreciated the numerous POV’s. So many different perspectives of the story were seen and as the reader I was able to understand that characters feelings. The story is filled with frustration and angst. So suspenseful and action packed and also deep with grit and life experience. I would read anything this author writes!

This book just became one of my favorite books so far. It is the type of book that I am drawn to: strong heroine, love/hate relationship, explosive sexual chemistry that just pops out of the pages, love/hate relationship doesn't convert into love right away, chemistry between main characters is constantly charged, different POVs and most importantly, an entertaining plot. This book keeps you entertained, keeps your attention and most importantly it is not a serial, a trilogy, or a series. It has a HEA.

I am looking forward to the next release from Em Wolf.

And again 12/12/17
Re-read 15/3/16

I love this book, I have re-read it several times. The couple have a bitter hated of each other but are constantly thrown together as they share a best friend. Their hatred explodes into fiery sexual chemistry and then deepens into love as they gain in understanding of each other. I love the use of language in this book, fluency and the characters snarky dialogue prevent it from being flowery. The characters are compelling and complex, the chemistry is electric and I personally have to love characters that love metal! A great, angst filled read.
