Dana Gray is on the run.

Tormented by fatal failures in her last case, she flees D.C. and the decisions she must make about her future with FBI Agent Jake Shepard.

Agent Shepard is battling his own demons, but when his ex-Army Ranger pal, turned New Orleans Detective, drags Dana into the serial killer case of the century, Shepard disobeys direct orders to keep her safe, putting his career in jeopardy.

Vampires and voodoo queens feel tame compared to the serial killer Dana’s uncovered in the Crescent City. As she delves deeper, she uncovers a chilling pattern that stretches back decades. Each clue only leads to more questions, until she’s in too deep.

As the clock ticks down and the stakes rise, Dana realizes that the only way to outsmart the killer is to embrace the very darkness she has spent a lifetime trying to escape.

With her back against the wall and nowhere left to run, she must summon every ounce of her strength and cunning to outwit a predator who knows her better than she knows herself.

C.J. Cross grew up in a snowy little Northeast town, cutting her teeth on true crime novels to stave her love of all things mysterious. The writing bug bit her early and she found her way into the publishing world, writing 50+ books under various top secret pen names over the years.

Now relocated to a place where she can safely trade in her snowshoes for flip flops, she's found a reason to dust off her old Criminal Justice degree and she's turned an old passion into a new flame, writing compelling thrillers novels.

When she's not writing you can usually find her drinking bourbon with fellow authors or spoiling her rescue pup.

I have enjoyed this entire series. Fast paced, kept my attention and couldn't put it down. All three are my check boxes for a book. Highly recommend this series and this author. All of her books I have read have been very good.

I was actually disappointed with the going back and forth with George and Jake. I really like George’s character, but not Jake. Was kind of disappointed with who she ended up with.

I really wish this had not been the end of the series. It would have been great to read about the next part of their journey…
