When a beloved elderly witch in Honeysuckle Springs dies under mysterious circumstances, Evie's magical instincts scream murder. It appears someone may have used forbidden shadow magic to end the poor witch’s life, but who? And how? And why?
Before Evie can catch her breath, more coven members start falling ill with the same terrifying symptoms, including some witches closest to Evie’s heart. The prime suspect seems to be her least favorite person in town since Amelia has a dark past and was exiled from the coven years ago for dabbling in the very shadow magic that's terrorizing the town. Now that Amelia’s back, is revenge on her mind, or is she an innocent bystander?
With Evie’s adorable familiar kitten Kookie providing mystical backup and her police chief husband Caden investigating the mundane clues, she races to unmask a killer who seems determined to pick off witches one by one. Will she be able to solve this supernatural mystery before the killer claims their next victim?

When an elderly, perfectly healthy witch passes away, Evie believes it has to be more than just old age or natural causes. She and her Aunt/cat Birdie believe something dark is happening in Honeysuckle Springs. When more than one witch is affected, it becomes hard to ignore and with Amelia's return, Evie is convinced. Amelia has returned after being exiled from the coven for dabbling in black magic. (Yes the same Amelia who tried to steal Caden!) Claiming to be reformed and vouched for by her well respected grandmother, Amelia is welcomed back into the coven. Evie isn't so welcoming though and has her suspicions. Evie has seen how deceptive Amelia has been in the past and helps her husband Chief Caden Bexley get to the bottom of this mystery. With plenty of suspects with motives of their own to choose from, this might call for some magical help deciphering between the evil, the greedy and the people who just don't like witches in their town. One thing is for sure, they need to be stopped asap before they lose the entire coven. Great story! Love these characters! A quick whodunit read with lots of suspects to choose from and lots of magic mixed in! Fantastic series!!!
Evie Bexley carried her familiar Kookie inside her jacket as she headed to Gooseberry Cafe's back room to meet up with the rest of the coven. Jenny Peters, the unofficial leader, had requested this meeting to discuss an older member. Evie was greeting Jenny when she saw her shoulders tense and conversations stopped, so she knew that Amelia had arrived. Amelia had dabbled in dark magic in the past, Evie fully agreed with the rest of the room. She was allowed back when her grandmother Hattie pleaded for her, but not everyone, including Evie, agreed with that decision. Everyone was meeting here to discuss Hattie's current condition. All her tests had come back "normal". Her mind had always been sharp except for the past few weeks. She had been healthy just a week ago. Now everyone was worried. Amelia added that the energy in her cottage felt "wrong". The others agreed to spend time with Hattie, holding her hand to give her some of their energy and also to get her out of the cottage a bit more if a negative entity had invaded the space. So each of them chose a day to visit. Evie packed a box of cookies to take to Hattie since today was now her visiting day. Evie's Aunt Birdie (existing in the body of a cat) made chicken noodle suit and fresh bread to take to Hattie. And Aunt Birdie mentioned Gertie, the grouch next door, was also not feeling well.
Evie paused to ask Aunt Birdie if she knew about hexing someone to make them ill because what's happening to Hattie doesn't seem normal. So Aunt Birdie suggested going with her to visit and see for herself. Hattie's neighbor, a gray-haired man, sat on his porch and stared at Evie and the cats and Evie's instincts warned her to avoid him. The air inside felt thick and stagnant. Hattie's cats seemed lethargic, could barely lift their heads, and said they hadn't been fed since the day before. The energy in the house was "dark". She walked into the bedroom and Hattie was barely breathing! When Evie asked about her dreams, she said they were horrible and frightening; then she fell asleep again. The cats stayed with her, their healing purrs helping as Evie got the soup and cookies ready. She looked much better as they left, and Trudy would be there in the morning. Birdie suggested they arrange to have Hattie moved elsewhere in case the oppressive energy returns. But when Trudy LeBlanc arrives in the morning to make her breakfast, Hattie had died.
Evie suspects murder. Did Amelia have something to do with the death? Or was it someone else? When other witches in the coven also begin to have the same signs of the illness, Evie is convinced dark shadow magic has been used. But can she find the culprit before other coven members also die? Will Evie, her Police Chief husband Caden, and Kookie finally figure it out?
We get to see Kookie, Evie’s familiar do more now that she is getting closer to adulthood. Hattie, ends up getting really ill and Amelia and the coven take turns taking care of Hattie’s almost 2 dozen cats. Gertie is under the weather too. Then things take a shocking turn and there is a death of a witch and many suspects. Then after many emergency sessions of the coven, more witches become ill with the same symptoms. Amelia is beside herself, because the type of work she had been expelled from the coven for, is the type that could be the cause of the illness. Police Chief, Caden, now husband to Evie, does all he can to find out what happened. So much happens in the book. We get to meet Hattie’s cats. OMG. Sebastian is a riot. Birdie is Evie’s Aunt, in the body of her familiar, Theodosia. Most people don’t know about it…
I had enough trouble dealing with one cat, when I had one growing up, lol I have no idea how anyone could deal with over 20! I figured out the true culprit by the halfway point of the book. I took notes on all the suspects and figured it out, lol. I spend waaaay too much time watching cop shows.
I loved this book and there is an epic magical battle in it, that’s all I’m saying. It was freaking awesome! I cried a few times and needed my AC on to deal with my worry sweat and chewed on my nails. The book was fun, funny, sweet & romantic, thrilling, exciting, worrisome, etc. I can’t wait to see what happens next, and I haven’t forgotten that we still haven’t found out who killed Birdie! Lol.

When a powerful, elderly witch falls ill, the coven gathers to heal and support her, but nothing is working. Her death leaves her many cats homeless and needing care. Evie, Aunt Birdie, and Kookie to the rescue! There are too many questions surrounding the death. Evie suspects murder. Fears and suspicion turn the coven’s attention toward a recently returned witch with a dark past. As other witches in the coven show signs of the illness, Evie and Caden consider dark magic as the source, but who is wielding it?
This is an exciting cozy. There is ample suspense and drama to keep any cozy lover glued to the pages. I received a free copy, but my review is honest and voluntary.
Cookie Witchery has some serious black/shadow magic threatening witch lives. I love these quirky characters. When one, cat loving witch dies and others become ill, Evie, Caden, Kookie and the gang work tirelessly to determine who is wielding forbidden magic. Amelia, who was banish for that practice has returned to town. She makes an obvious suspect, but there are plenty more suspects to consider. I was on the edge of my seat as time was running out. But fortunately, Ms. Stark, Evie, Caden and Kookie were able to solve the case in time. This well plotted mystery has plenty of cats and lots of magic to keep me happy!
There were some really fun scenes in this book! I could just picture Aunt Birdie, Gertie and their friend Winona experimenting with a bunch of potions and stuff to try and curb the effects of a mysterious illness that was happening to the local witches—it already took one beloved witch’s life.
Evie had to team up with someone she never in a million years thought she’d get along with. It just showed that teamwork—and the help of a cat and some older witches could sweep all the bad away. That showdown was epic! Can’t wait to see what happens next now that Evie and a once-nemesis were getting along.
a one time shadow witch and ex ho Kaden is back in town
as troubles pop up and multiply, whom and what can any of the coven members trust?
suspicions fly, along with speculations, as members young and old fall prey to drains on their magic.
with the involvement of a clouder if kitties, a bevy of younger witches, and a frightening and slightly sauced group of elder witches, and waaay lots of wine, dangers and crazy bonding abound.
Cookie Witchery Book 14 of Cookie Corner Paranormal Cozy Mysteries by Cindy Stark is the best in the series I've read so far! To be fair I've loved them all but this one brings out the best in small town community, only in a small town would anyone realize that this isn't a normal death and the whole coven comes together, steps up to care for the cats left behind, I just love the story it gave me the warm fuzzies in places and kept me riveted to the book from cover to cover! Can't wait for more!.

I really enjoyed this as a fourteenth entry in the Cookie Corner Paranormal Cozy Mysteries series, it had that mystery element that I enjoyed from the previous books. The characters were written perfectly for this type of book and from the other books I read from Cindy Stark . It had that suspenseful atmosphere that I was looking for and was hooked from the first page until the end.

When an elderly witch dies, Evie believes it is murder. Then more coven members become ill. Can Evie solve the mystery before more witches die? This book has great characters, interesting mystery, and lots of cats. This series gets better with each book!

Whenever I open a Stark-book, I know I’m in for a great read! And this one was no different. I just LOVE the characters, for me they can make or break a series. Just the right amount of quirk, just the right amount of heart, just the right amount of smart. And of course Kookie (the cat familiar) is the true hero of the story, let’s be honest here, LOL. No, but seriously, one of the best series out there, so if you haven’t started this series yet, what are you waiting for?
There is a strange illness that seems supernatural in nature. When a beloved member of the coven dies, Evie knows there was foul play. While she investigates, Evie does her best to care for the 23 cats left behind! There are a number of twists and turns and the strength of the coven's bond helps stop the culprit. This can be read as a standalone, although the entire series is a lot of fun.
This was the best book yet in the series! As a mysterious illness overtakes the coven Evie, Kookie and the gang race to uncover the origin of the illness. Is it natural or supernatural? Is there a cure? This one kept me in suspense. Loved the new and continuing characters.
Cookie Witchery: A Cookie Corner Paranormal Cozy Mystery book 14
Interesting mystery with a favorite older cat loving witch becoming ill quickly and then dying. More witches start to become ill and there are several red herrings.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. It was an interesting mystery with twists where some suspects that seemed possible proved innocent and an innocent appearing one is guilty.
What happened to Odie, the orange cat they rescued from outside the antique store? Evie and Caden agreed that he would be joining their family. Now it appears that there is a new cat who will be joining them.
Another good read from Cindy Stark. I really liked these characters and the plot of this cozy mystery. I knew from first meeting/appearance, who done it. Don't know why I zeroed in, but I did. Looking forward to reading the next installment from this very talented storyteller.
