Santastein: Or The Post-Holiday Prometheus

Rate this book
In this tale of irreverent holiday horror, Dr. Victor Frankenstein raids the graveyard to assemble not just a man, but the Spirit of Giving himself. However, will the creature save Christmas for the village or will he lead to its destruction? This book has sold in six different nations, five of whom still get along with us for some odd reason. We say that Santastein is laugh out loud funny, but we're only going by what other people tell us.If you found The Nightmare Before Christmas to be way too saccharine, this is the book for you. Read it aloud to someone you love and try, just try, to maintain a straight face.

Hilarious romp through a mashup of Dickens and Shelley. Brian K. Morris has written a book that is just so hard to put down. Each chapter ends with either an extremely funny line that is followed up on in the first line of the next chapter or with a cliff hanger that makes you just have to keep reading. Then you find yourself reading to the end of another chapter not able to quit.

So what if Dr. Frankenstein wanted to spread Christmas Cheer along with finding that elusive spark of life? Santastein, that's what. The pop-culture references, the unnamed characters, and the hilarious Mel Brooksian angry mob all create the perfect holiday humor in this great book.

I think if Mary Shelly had an irreverent sense of humor and had penned Frankenstein during the height of the Christmas season she could have written Santastein. Brian K. Morris takes our classic, beloved horror story, Frankenstein, and mashes it up, at warp speed, into the holidays. There is short list of writers that have made me laugh out loud; Douglass Adams, Terry Pratchett, Jeff Strand, and now Brian K. Morris.

Brian K. Morris penned a quirky Christmas tale that is off kilter, but in a grand way. It is not a story set during Christmas. It is filled with zany Yuletide cheer with characters immersed with Christmas spirit. Do not pass up a fun read that will make you laugh with a jaunty Ho, Ho, Ho!

A spoiler warning: certain readers are annoyed characters breaking the fourth wall. Although I thoroughly enjoy the device, if it bothers you don't read this. I was delighted by it.
