Dylan lives in a domed city. Her life is regulated by rules and routine, a life that never really knows any conflict. Her future seems written for her. In a week, she will take the final test that will decide what her role will be in society. Will she be a nurturer or a historian? Will she teach or will she lead?
She plays by the rules and hopes that she will be allowed to become a guardian, to watch over a group of children from infancy to adolescence like her own guardian, Davida. However, on testing day, Dylan is shocked when she is taken outside the dome that protects her beloved city, Genero, and told to survive three days on her own. It doesn’t take much survival knowledge to know that two bottles of water and a few boxes of protein crackers will not last three days. Dylan has been brought outside the dome to die.
As she struggles to survive, Dylan learns things about herself she had never known before. Like the fact that she desperately does not want to die. Or the fact that she has the power to heal herself. And worst, she learns that there are more lies the council of Genero told her when she meets a creature she has never seen before. A boy.
As Wyatt and Dylan struggle to survive together, Dylan also begins to discover that there are those who want her dead, and others who will do almost anything to capture her. Alive.
I randomly stumbled across this book while searching for something new to read on my Kindle and I'm so glad I did. I'm normally not into the whole supernatural, angel and gargoyle thing and I was skeptical at first but the series is amazing. Brenda does a great job at pulling you into a world unknown. At times it can be confusing but everything ties together eventually and when it does it is brilliant. I was literally counting down until she released the 4th book and I read it within a day and I am borderline depressed that it is over. I WANT MORE. Read the series you won't be disappointed!
There was a lot of confusion in this story. Of course it was because of the lack of information possessed by the characters, and this was fine up until a point where Dylan found herself separated from the rest of her friends. The weird twist would have been a nice one if more time had been spent in the writing of it. More details and a dragged out separation would have greatly increased my rating of Found.
The beginning of this story reminded me of the beginning of Divergent, with Dylan’s Spartan dorm life very reminiscent of Tris’s life in her faction Abnegation, and the testing and sorting into jobs was a lot like being sorted into a faction (but without the cool mind-scapes from Divergent). And then the being dropped off in the middle of nowhere, having to cross a post-apocalyptic wasteland with ruined cities and futuristic monsters attacking was very much like the second Maze Runner book (or for that matter a bit like Logan’s Run). In other words, all books I like, but it felt like it had been done before, but the slight romance did manage to hold my interest. Dylan herself is very Mary-Sue: the ultimate always perfect feminine character who develops powers to get herself out of any situation, to where there really isn’t any worry about her safety or whether she’ll get out of a situation, and not to mention a fabled chosen one to boot, and the sole focus of everyone around her. There is also an odd focus on Dylan’s breasts and nudity. The story itself is engaging, and does manage to hold interest as the setting changes, and monsters attack, different dystopian societies pop up, and, of course, the play between the characters, but if you’ve come to this book because of the title and actually expect angels figure into the story, you’ll be disappointed. Beyond a couple rumors of nubs of wings appearing on some girls in the colony, and odd powers appearing, there are no angels in this book (perhaps further on in the series, but not in this particular installment).
I felt like you had to read a lot to find anything out, especially since you didn't find out what the entire jitney was about until the last sentence. Felt like a long prequel of sorts. I want to find out what's going to happen next but probably won't because i don't want to feel like i read an entire book without actually really reading & gaining any knowledge about the story until the last page again. Otherwise is was entertaining enough to finish reading in a few hours if reading.
Well what can i say i really enjoyed this book want to read the rest of them, i know they are a few years old and I know the rest exist but here i am again cant find the books anywhere, author does not exist on amazon this is about tue 4th author now i really would like someone to tell me where the authors have gone, very fed up.
Great plot idea but I found the writing to be a little off. Like the author wanted to make it more complex, but just didn’t hit the mark; like all of the subterfuge and backstabbing going on. It seemed like the author wanted it to be a little bit more unknown and it just didn’t work for me.
I randomly stumbled across this series after reading The Raiphem series - which was beyond amazing - and I was on the prowl for my next angel and demons series. I was a little adamint because I saw it only has about 600 reviews; then I read the synopsis. I though heck adding some gargoyles to my reading list might be a good change - my sister and I read the same series together so she thought change would be good as well. Once I started reading this, I just couldn't put it down-which is a sign of a great series! The world the author builds just sucks you right In. The writing was easy to follow and kept my imagination in tact and flowing with the story. I really enjoy books where there is tension between the lovers... Either because the girl is stuck between 2 men or something else. I don't like when the characters all get married in the begining - I tried to read decent by C. L Roman and I just couldn't make it through the first book. if you like imaginary world's, tension, gargoyles and angels you'll love this series :) Don't pay attention to the negative reviews... because if you did, you would pass up so many great series. Other people oppinions are different so find out for yourself. :)
I've had this on my currently reading list since 3/12/2014 but I hadn't started it, so no idea why it was, and also no idea why I hadn't read it. Already curious about it and I'm barely starting! (6% done)
Finished in a matter of hours. Really enjoyed this book, the characters are well written, Wyatt is confusing, I'm not sure about him but the girl Dylan is a good character, shes feisty and intelligent.
I've gone and got the next book just because I'm so interested in the storyline. I mean it isn't original look at hunger games and tell me you've not seen this sort of storyline. However, its done differently. Using what I assume is angels against humans or 'special humans' which makes for a good story.
Dylan can be a little annoying shes SO clueless and sometimes I wonder if shes actually a bit too clueless, she knew something was up in her city yet she didn't question it... Well really we would have if we'd been in her situation.
Interesting concept. The first book introduces us to the characters and gives us many more questions than answers. As the main character lacks understanding of the world and situations she is thrown into, so we too struggle along trying to uncover the truth and learn about life outside the city of Genero.
I have given three stars as a bit more development or portrayal of Stiles would have helped and I felt the ending of the book was rushed. When Wyatt and Dylan are separated this would have been a good opportunity to develop our understanding more before rushing her out and off to the next place, then abruptly ending.
Not much is answered or resolved. The first book is more like the first half of a story. I will be reading book 2 to see how this develops.
Very interesting premise. The book is very cloak and dagger, but it seems like Dylan has been created to save/destroy the human race.
There is not a lot of the story that has been revealed in this first book. Mostly just the character developement of Dylan and Wyatt. As well as the culmination of their relationship. Even the introduction of another man/woman in Ellie and Stiles/Sam. Of course we cannot forget the villains, Lucifer and Lillith.
Should be interesting to see what happens in book 2.
Dylan lives in Genero which is a dome made after a radiation war and was created to protect the people. Dylan is brought up and schooled by guardians and when she has finished her schooling she is given a task which involves 3 days to survive and find her way in the desert. While she is resting she comes across a male called Wyatt who helps her survive and protects her from the gargoyles. But all is not what it seems. Will read more of this series as plenty of loose ends.
Stumbled upon this lovely a while back. I decided to read it at 3 am, due to severe pain waking me, and finished at 7:30 a.m. LOVED THIS BOOK! The only think I didn't like was the fact that it was short and I HAVE to buy the others because I'm HOOKED on it!
I was not expected this at all. I really needed something different, and this was just what I needed to get me out of the book funk I was finding myself in. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
I loved the characters, even the ones designed to be mistrusted or even hated. They just flowed in the story fitting perfectly.
I found myself beyond frustrated that people were using Dylan. Denying her basic questions and keeping important information from her. And it drove me crazy. I was angry at Wyatt, Ellie, even Siles and Davida.
Frustration aside...it was a good read although not as long as I would have liked.
I read this in a day and was surprised at how much I liked it. The blurb doesn't do the story justice. Right away there was tension and I really wanted to know all the secrets that were so obviously held back from the main character.
This book is an interesting combination of post-apocalyptic/dystopian and angel warfare. I'm definitely reading the second book and would recommend to other readers of dystopian YA etc.
So glad I came across this book! I started reading it one afternoon waiting in the car rider lane at my children's school and I finished it that night. I could NOT put it down. It was a fast paced, unique story that I cannot wait to read the rest of the series. This is my first Brenda L Harper book and I was not disappointed, she's an amazing writer!
This book was ok, but I wish we'd been given more information about the city the girls are born in. also, gargoyles seem like a very random thing in this book that struggles to find it's supernatural footing. The main character is ok, but kind of underwhelming personality wise.
Interesting story. I liked the concept and the imagery detailed. I liked the childlike innocence Dylan wades through. I felt at times that the flow of the plot was too simplistic--point A, point B, point C. I enjoyed the mystery mixed in...it just needs a little more depth. Overall not a bad start to the series all said. We will see about book 2.
3.5 stars - good start but not too much detail given on the world and where this could lead. Therefore I will definitely be continuing the series, to explore more of the world and find out what's going to happen.
*One thing that bugs me, the heroine has blonde hair and the girl on the book cover has brown. Slightly annoying but hey! just trivia I suppose
I'm almost at a loss of words with this book. I think the story is there, but it just took so long to get immersed in the story. It is really well written grammatically speaking, but it really didn't pull me in as much as it could have. I think the story could quite possibly be a solid 4.5 to 5, by the writing on this one left me wanting.
I loved this first book!!! I don't usually read these types, more into space wars, etc. But the synopsis intrigued me and I'm glad I got it. It keeps you guessing, just when you think you know what's going to happen...surprise, you were wrong. Very well written, I'm excited to continue this series.
Once in a while you stumble across a gem... this story is one of them. I absolutely loved it and I'm going to continue the series... I didn't see the ending coming. Even before that, the story was so intriguing. Just the right amount of everything. The characters were well flushed out and the pacing spot it! =)
The story was different but still left unanswered questions. For one, who is Dylan? Is she an angel or the spawn of Lucifer, there's a lot that can fill in the blank. overall the story flowed nicely and was easy to follow. I hope the next book answers my questions.
I enjoyed this! light fare but fast paced and interesting. I hope the sequels enlighten us more about the history of the "ruins" and the characters. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
I was so not expecting this. This story was well thought out and laid out as well. Everything made sense and flowed perfectly. There are still some questions to be answered, but that what the next books are for, I'm sure. I will be keeping a watch on this author.
This was a VERY good short read! Sometimes it takes a lot to keep me engaged in a book but this book keeps you guessing from start to finish! It makes you want to read more! I would definitely recommend this book to others whether you like supernatural reading or not!
Interesting book, but not my usual genre. I don't know if I'd read the rest of the series. if you are into this type of book then you might like it more than me. The characters did not seem to be developed enough for me to care what happened to them.
This book reminded me of the hunger games yet it was completely different. The story grabs you on page one and doesn't let you go . I can't wait to start the second book.
