I've hit rock bottom, and I've slowly climbed my way back up. Now, I keep myself locked away. It's easier than letting people in and telling them about that night.
I live my life in the shadows because happiness is something that I can't have.
I keep my pain where it belongs, in the past. I keep my secrets buried deep down. Now, my past is colliding with my future, and I'm not sure how I'm going to survive.
But in the midst of the darkness is a shining Trent. Sometimes, you find home in the place you least expect it.
Where to begin with this review ....... I have no idea because I have so many emotions running through me after reading this book. I want to give away the ending because it is so beautifully written but I wont because this is one story that is a MUST READ for everyone. I was captured right from page one and held captive by the story all the way through to the end and when i got there I wanted more. I wanted to see this couple and what was going to unfold.
Trent and Michelle bot have a hard life and they both have suffered from choices they made. But once Trent lays eyes on Michelle he knows she is the one for him. He gets this feeling he can't shake and he knows that she is going to be his. Michelle she lives her life in darkness choosing to live a quiet life that is until she meets Trent and she knows instantly that her life is about to change and she is going to be Trents girl.
This is an amazing story that is a MUST READ for EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The first few chapter of this book really drew me on. We got to meet our main characters and even a few awesome secondary characters that really had me laughing. This author has such a strong ability to draw me in and with what Trent has went through and how awesome Michelle is is couldn’t help but want to see both of them get a HEA.
Trent was such a sweetheart. He has to be one of my favorite things about this story. I loved being in his head and just experiencing it with him. He had his ups and downs but he was just an amazing guy. When we finally got to really know Michelle and all that she had been though I felt a connection with her. She was so strong and I loved seeing her persevere.
As the story progressed and little hints of suspense came out and we knew who the bad guy was (most of the time that would bug me but I found that I liked it when it came to this book. It made me pay more attention to every aspect of the story and had me on pins and needles waiting to see what would happen.
I said above that the secondary characters were awesome and they were. I would love to see Heller get a book. I loved him and he had that elusiveness to him that as me intrigued. I would have loved to see Maggie get a full story. I know she got an HEA in the epilogue but seeing it all happen would have been awesome.
I won’t spoil the story because it was a beautiful story and I always so glad to see Michelle and Trent get a HEA. It wasn’t easy for them but they fought for it and won. I will say that there is some sensitive subjects on this novel but the author really handled them beautifully. 5 stars #2OCCJD
This book has the perfect title. Trent and Michelle have a beautiful story to tell about finding your home which truly in not about a place but a state of being.
Both of these characters have hearts of gold. What has happened to them caused an assortment of feelings. I love how this author didn’t make it about instant forgiveness when they are dealing with those who did them wrong. It just felt more realistic.
A LOT is happening during this read so be prepared. It is a busy story with moments of angst, naughty, and drama. So pay attention (haha).
Trent is not only nummy but his protectiveness is endearing especially if you realize that aspect of his personality in combination with a temper did not always serve him well. EEEK!
Michelle is a combination of giving and cautious. You just have to read the story to know what I am talking about.
This read has a full cast and I would be amiss if I didn’t mention that I am hoping for some future stories for those characters I fell in love with (wink).
LASTLY the cover of this book is one of my all time fav (sigh). So beautiful. Happy Reading!
Trent and Michelle have been dealt a life full of tragedy. He’s serving time for assaulting his sisters’ abusive husband and well she has been abused at the hand of a so-called family friend for it to end in tragedy. When Trent is set to be released his cellmate Dustin gives him the name of a woman who will be waiting for him. She will give him an apartment and a job. He wasn’t expecting an angel that was Michelle. She breathed new life into him and gave him a chance and he in turn sparked happiness into her sad sheltered life. Michelle is just trying to deal with her guilt and her dark thoughts yet she finds herself leaning on Trent and letting him in. Life isn’t all roses there is a lingering presence that neither one of them can’t shake and his name is Ric. Something is off about him and after a serious of mysterious events unfold, they know the past is coming to the present. Trent will do anything for the girl he loves, and he does with the help of her chosen family.
This book has a lot of themes mainly depression and suicide and abuse. It’s about doing what is right despite the consequences. Michelle and Trent did kind of fall in love quickly, but I think that is what they both needed. I liked that some of the tenants in the apartment that Michelle owned were her family. She was very closed off but also very friendly and trusting. I loved Trent despite being a felon he had a huge heart and all he wanted to do was protect the ones he loved. My only real complaint is that the ending seemed to drag. I understand that we needed to get Michelle back to a good place but it kind of seemed to just go on and on.
Healing had to take place sure but all in all I kind of felt myself saying ok we know. Don’t hate me just my opinion. This story has a lot of heart in it and dark elements but all very true things that many deal with on a daily basis. I think with some cleaning up this story has great potential.
IloveKL Humphreys, but this one didn't do it for me. I found it a little slow to get in to and then had trouble connecting with the characters.
It tackled hard to handle subjects, such as depression, abuse, and mental illness with a soft, understanding touch that shows the true heart of the author.
I’m not quite sure how I feel about this one. There was quite a bit I REALLY loved, but also some that really brought things down for me. What I loved: The sweetness. Seriously, it’s off the charts. Trent is all kinds of swoony, sweet, melt your heart goodness. Michelle is just as sweet with how much she cares for her tenants/friends. It’s a whole lot of feel good with those two. The open and honest discussion about mental health. I loved that even with all the feel good K.L. Humphreys did not shy away when it came to character who suffered from severe trauma and struggled with depression. There was no “magic cure” all better, but there was support, therapy, and love making it all the more realistic. What I didn’t love: At times things got repetitive. You’d think something was resolved and then the next time it was back to unresolved. Feelings about family, forgiveness, etc. Both Trent and Michelle were pretty wishy washy and it felt like whiplash with how quickly they would be ok with something or someone then not. The drama. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some good drama but sometimes it was too much. There was always something wrong and as soon as one thing was resolved there was something else wrong. With so many separate dramas going on it really caused me to lose interest in the story occasionally. Overall Finding Home is a super sweet read with a whole lot of feels that I’d definitely recommend if you’re a fan of feel good and leaner towards the lower level of steam.
Michelle Nelson has been trying to forget about a rotten childhood and the event that forever changed her life. She’s hit rock bottom and is depressed, but she’s trying to drag her way back to normalcy with every breath she takes. She keeps her heart locked up and doesn’t share her thoughts and feelings . . . until one man starts breaking down all of her walls. Trent Lawrence did time for protecting someone he loved who then didn’t back him up. He’s bitter and doesn’t feel like he’ll ever trust or love again. But, now he’s free and he has a new chance at freedom . . . and his one connection to the outside is a woman he’s never met. She offers him so much more than a fresh start, and he can’t help but to fall for this beautiful and giving woman . . . and when Michelle finds herself in danger, Trent vows to protect her with everything he has no matter what the cost.
I absolutely loved this couple. Both were let down by their families and struggled to love and trust again. They’ve seen just how unfair the world can be and have learned to hide their true feelings. But, together, they start making each other feel whole again.
All the while they are learning to live and love life again, danger is stalking Michelle. The friends who are more like family, that Michelle didn’t realize she had, band together to do everything they can to keep her physically safe and emotionally well.
This book is sweet and super intense with some really unexpected twists. It was a fabulous read. 4 stars.
Those are my four words which can describe this book more accurately.
This is more than just a love story and a work of ficiton. This is the kind of story that sticks with you long before you've even finished the reading the book. While it may be a work of fiction, the situations presented between it's pages depict a cruel reality, the kind of reality most of us try to deny.
I just can't put into words how reading it made me feel, I'm still in a complete haze, I'm still an emotional wreck. I lived every single page of this story at full capacity amd I'm not sorry for choosi g to do so. I can most certainly tell you that, you are going to need a strong heart and lots of tissues.
This book has two sets of strong characters. On one hand there is Trent, who'd move mountains just to see thw one he cares about happy and safe. Even though he'd been let down by his own family a few years back when he stood up for his sister. Resentment towards them hasn't washed off that easily and it'll take some time and effort to make amends with the past and move on.
And on the other hand there is Michelle, who's been put through hell from a young age. Even though there were lots of times when she tried d to end it all - because her own mom wouldn't believe what she was going through was true, and been called a liar - , she found comfort inthe arms od her Grandma who stood by her until her final days.
Their road is meant to cross paths real soon, as Trent will end his serving time in prison and his cell mate, which is none other than the father of his future landlord where he'll be staying from now on. A little bit reticent at first, they're going to get along real good and people in the building will also learn to like, love and respect Trent for who he really is. But as we all know, no good deed goes unpunished and hell will break loose in the complex which Grandma May left in the capable hands of Michelle. Chaos aka Ric will make both of their lives a living nightmare for a while.
If you want to find out the rest, you have to read the book, which, comes out on the 21st.
K.L. Humphreys has penned a fantastic story filled with all the feels, not to mention quite a bit of excitement to boot, and I couldn't have loved it anymore if I tried. There's Trent, who went to prison for protecting someone he loved, while his whole family turned their backs on him. When it was time for him to get out, his cellmate put him with Michelle, who has her own past demons, so she gives him a shot for a fresh start. These two are perfect for each other, but it's not an easy walk in the park, because both of them have emotional scars that aren't healed overnight. And that's what really hit me in the feels, because that pain was realistic in the telling, so I felt their pain like it was my own. However, there was this amazing cast of secondaries that kept me laughing hard, with a select few having that ick factor. The amazing little old ladies were hysterically funny, yet full of wisdom & ready to take on the world for the youngins. Then those insane twists, OMG those twists, yeah they had my f-bombs dropping like sweat in the summer time, while the final thing to round this story out perfectly, was the forgiveness factor that wasn't instant but did happen slowly, and it was powerful. So I truly didn't see this brilliant story coming, and I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!
Firstly I have to mention how much I love the beautiful cover of this story. It was absolutely perfect for the story and fitted in well with the storyline. I found that this story really took me for a ride with the emotions throughout this story with both characters having endured their own hurt and tragedy. I found the author did a good job expressing these emotions that the characters were feeling and the way the characters try to overcome the darkness they carry around with them from the hurt they have endured in their life.
Michelle I found to be an immensely enjoyable character that was incredibly caring. I loved the way that she sweet and caring if Trent even before she even met him. I enjoyed the way that she looked after her residents and Trent. It was evident of how sweet of a character Michelle was in the story.
Trent was an incredible alpha make character that was really sweet. Even though he had a hard side to him he was also caring in the way that he looked out for the residents where he lives and with Michelle.
Finding home was an incredibly beautiful story that I could not get enough of from start to finish. The author wrote a fantastic storyline that had a great amount of emotion throughout it.
I love that it raises awareness for mental health issues. The subject matter is dealt with so well and honestly.
Michelle is such a strong woman, but so afraid and alone at the same time. Trent is desperate for a new start. When the two of them meet, they find solace in each other.
Trent has been labelled a bad boy and written off by his family. He finds himself having to start over and is given an opportunity by a friend. Michelle is cautious and withdrawn; after being hurt before, she has built walls to protect herself. But at what cost? She is lonely and not truly living.
I love how protective Trent is. He is loyal to a fault and honest. His interaction with the other characters, particularly Ethel and Mark, made me fall for him even harder.
Full of drama, plot twists and emotion, this book had me on the edge of my seat. I desperately wanted Trent and Michelle to heal one another. This book may hurt your heart in places, but the message is clear. There is always light to be found in the darkness.
With a brilliant cast of characters, this book had me laughing one minute and gasping the next.
“You know baby, I met you at the gates of hell, and you brought me home.” Finding Home will send you into a whirlwind of emotion with this overwhelmingly beautiful story. It’s sweet yet intense, tragic yet cheerful, and like its characters, completely endearing. Author K.L. Humphreys perfectly personifies the statement, “home is where the heart is” in Trent and Michelle. Aptly named, this book is about finding one’s place in the world within the heart of another. In addition to a perfectly sweet love story, Humphreys also gives us complicated and real, as our characters deal with life’s struggles, mental illness, and coming to terms with the past. Both characters are walking contradictions. Trent is protective and tender yet aggressive and quick tempered; Michelle is kind and engaging, exuding strength, yet guarded and damaged. Character development throughout is where this story excels. I did feel that some areas of the story were repetitive or expressly drawn out, which in my opinion weren’t needed. Overall Finding Home is a lovely and compelling book worth reading.***This book does contain various triggers which may be upsetting to some
Wow! This book took me completely off guard! Trent is a man looking for a second chance and redemption. Michelle is the angel placed in his life to do that. Michelle has a tragic story that I did not see coming at all. My heart broke for her so much! Trent is a man who’s family has abandoned him and he wants to move on with his life. Michelle comes into his world and turns it upside down. His patience and the care he took with her was amazing to see. He has a heart of gold buried under that intimidating exterior. There is a twist added into this story that will keep you on your toes wondering what will happen next. We get to see Michelle and Trent with their HEA in the end but to get there will be a struggle. Great book!
This is one of those books that KL Humphreys excels at. Trent and Michelle each have backgrounds that are truly heartbreaking, and they have to fight themselves to overcome those and to find enough peace to, literally, find home as a place within them, rather than a house or town. Never one to shy away from tough topics, Humphreys includes mental health issues, the nightmare that is depression, PTSD, and suicide. This is not a quick, easy read; this is a full-of-feels read that leaves you wrung out at the end. The prison stories and miscarriages of justice are heartbreaking, and, if anything, my favorite character at the end was Dustin – so read it if you want to know why.
I received an advance copy of this book and the review is voluntary.
When I first read the synopsis for Finding Home, I was really looking forward to reading about Trent and Michelle. This is the first time I've read one of K.L. Humphrey's stories, so I wasn't too sure on what to expect. I unfortunately, did not connect with the charters as much as I'd like. I did think the story line was good, I liked that it had a little suspense, but I think the chemistry between Trent and Michelle was a little rushed. I tend to have a hard time with stories that the characters relationship moves so fast. I think it's more of a personal thing verses the writing style of the author. I did see that other readers enjoyed this story a little more than I did. Which, is perfectly fine. Because although I didn't connect like I usually do, it doesn't mean that someone else won't enjoy it even more!

**ARC REVIEW** 3.5/⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟 So I'm a little hesitant on this one. I'm not sure if it was truly for me. I enjoyed the suspense for sure I think parts of Michelle just didn't do it for me.
Michelle has been through a lot in life and is struggling on a daily basis even though she tries to hide it as much as possible. She seems to be very independent at times...
Trent has lost his family and needs to start all over again. By chance he gets to meet Michelle and instantly he's protected of her and cares deeply. Learning Michelle's past just puts everything in perspective for Trent.
Will Michelle be able to overcome her demons and let Trent into her life.... There's danger around the corner... Sacrifices need to be made..
This book has some serious triggers and is not light I'll tell you that.
Finding home is about two people who were wronged in so many ways it hard to believe that they ended up surviving at, all especially Michelle. I found her a force to be reckoned with. With everything that has happened to her she somehow managed to rebuilt her world. I loved how Trent did all he could do to help her stay sane even if sometimes it seemed impossible.
Overall this is a beautiful story about how love and friendship are (so much) needed in ones life and how you should ALWAYS as for help no matter what! Thank you K.L.Humphreys for sharing this with us.

This book was so good!! Michelle picks Trent up the day he gets out of prison as a favor to her father. Neither knowing just how drastically their lives will change. Michelle gives Trent a job and a place to stay in the apartment building that she owns. Meeting the people who live in the building, Trent begins to put his life back together. The tenants all seem to take to him except for Ricardo. Ethel steals every scene that she is in! I loved her!!! As Trent and Michelle get to know each other, feelings emerge and secrets are revealed. All while trouble around them brews. This is such a great story with a twist you won't see coming!
When it seems all is lost and you are on your own, can someone enter your life and help bring in the light? Well that, seems to be what happens the day Michelle meets Trent at the prison gates.
Secrets are revealed and dark times are about to descend on Michelle and Trents lives. Can they forgive the people in their past that didn't protect them or will there be to much history, anger and betrayal for the past to be forgotten.
I was hooked by the story. I loved how K.L. Humphreys has written such a touching and emotional subject. A subject that to some is still taboo. Mental Health awareness should be out there for all to see and embrace. Not to be ashamed to speak out and get the help they need.
I really hope we get Maggie's story and a story for Heller. I need to know his background as all is not what it seems.
This is the first book by KL Humphreys that I have read and I really enjoyed it!! This is Trent and Michelle's story and what an emotional rollercoaster their story is!! Trent has spent 5 years in prison for protecting his family, a family that didn't even stand by him after the sacrifice he made!! He get's out of prison and meets Michelle!! Michelle helps him get back on his feet but just like him she has ghosts in his past!! Their love story is not an easy one their road to happiness is long and hard fought for!! I loved both characters and loved how protective of Michelle Trent is!! This book has everything in it from ups and downs to sparks and chemistry!! Will they get their HEA??? You will have to read the story to find out!! I highly recommend this book you won't be disappointed!!
K.L. Humphreys did a wonderful job with this story. Michelle and Trent have past issues that are hard to move on from. Trent just gets released from prison and has no one or nothing to go home to. When offered a new start he takes it and makes the most of it. Michelle likes to keep herself sheltered in her life because of her tragic past that she cannot forget. Together Michelle and Trent start the road of healing together but not without its difficulties. I really enjoyed the characters and the story, I did however feel that change happened very quickly for these two which made it a bit unrealistic but I still did enjoy. I would for sure recommend.
Wow where do I start with this one. Emotional heart wrenching suspense romance so well written storyline. This book is gripping right from the beginning to the end. Trent is finally getting out of the hell he has been in for 5 years . He is going to live with someone he doesn't even know. But soon learns that Shelly is everything he needs and more. But she has her own issues to overcome. A past she can't run from no matter how hard she tries. Will her past destroy her and her relationship with Trent? I loved this storyline. Absolutely amazing breath taking non-stop action to keep you wanting more. Highly recommend this one.
This book was phenomenal. I absolutely love trent he is such a good man! He treats Michelle with the upmost respect and I love how even though they both had pasts that were bad they found each other through them and that love grew to be huge! Michelle faced SO SO many trials and I connected with her, felt so bad for her, but I love how trent was there the whole time. It was hard to put this book down as it was amazing! It was a roller coaster of emotions and also had draw dropping moments. The end was so very sweet and I love how everything turned out and ended. This author is the best!
I just love this book. They both a story of finding their way home. Home is never about where you are but who you're with. Also it supports the statement that family is not always blood. Both of these characters have been to hell and back. And I love how this story describes how hard life can truly be for people. Not only the struggles people see on the outside but the daily struggles that what can go through alone. This book is definitely emotional so be prepared.
This is an absolutely beautiful love story. So real and emotional, I found it hard at times to read. I found the story itself a bit slow but whether that is because Im used to a faster pace or my current natural disaster I couldn't say. There may be some triggers for some people but at it's heart this story is all about love, finding that person who is your home even through all your hardships. Beautiful, Just beautiful and spoke to me.
A sweet touching read that proves redemption is there for us all and you will do anything to protect those you love. Trent and Michelle will take you on a rollercoaster with their story and you fall in love with their characters indivually and together. A hard situation that has brought them both together. Trent on his road to mending his bridges and Michelle seeing there is more to life than work. A really lovely read.
I can’t say enough about this book!! From the very beginning I was hooked. The instant connection is my favorite kinda book and Trent and Michelle have that. When Michelle is to scared to act on it, Trent pushes through. When bad people step into michells life Trent and the rest of the complex are there to surround her with the love and protection she needs!!
I really liked this book. It's left me with that warm fuzzy feeling in the pit of my stomach. You can't help but fall in love with these characters, even the supporting ones! Michelle's strength and courage is inspiring! And Trent, he's every girl's "bad boy wet dream!" There's drama and excitement to go along with this love story, giving you plenty of entertainment! I definitely recommend this one!
This was the first book I have read by this author and it will definitely not be the last. All I can say is WOW! This was also the first romance book I have read about an inmate. I loved the relationship between Trent and Michelle. I found that this author was superb at keeping the reader on edge with this plot. Loved how character driven this story was. I cried, I laughed and I became emotionally invested in these characters. I highly recommend this book. It will leave you hooked for more!
