1 i HATE Marion Star
Well this book just crushed the tiny bit of hope I felt at the end of the previous book. This was basically me while reading this book…..
*SPOILERS AND LOTS OF SWEARING AHEAD*
I had such high hopes for Marion after the second book, which was such a surprise after my hate of her in the first book…..
“I’ve spent weeks coming to terms with the fact that the woman I used to be is gone. Dead, in a way. But nothing was lost when the Canope broke. I truly believe that.”
^^Thoughts like this had me thinking she was changing for the better, learning humility and kindness and wanting to be a better version of the vain and selfish one she was before. Alas, she became an even worse version – the stupid, weak and pathetic one. I absolutely HATE weak heroines, they make my eye twitch and Marion had me wanting to tear my hair out by the end of this book. Her inability to see just how truly evil her abusive fucker of a fiance Konig is, made me want to SCREAM. How she allows the douchebag to treat her like shit, but of course he’s handsome and call her his princess and tells her he loves her, so their love is true. And not once did she realise he was cheating on her, even though Nori slept in his bed in their castle almost every night. Yeah, she’s obviously blind as a bat. How she thought they had a true love, when I’ve never seen a more shallow and abusive love in all of the hundreds of books I’ve read is beyond my understanding.
Marion could forgive him for the incident, if he’d forgive her for hurting him first.
It was all so fixable.
And she makes excuses for him being an abusive asshole!!
I’m surprised my kindle is still in one piece after all the rage Marion inspired in this book.
Then there’s Konig. I fucking hate this fucker and how he gets away with everything I want him to burn in the fires of hell for eternity, but it seems he always gets what he wants.
And poor Seth, the only character I love in this book, gets all the bad luck. He stands up for Marion against fuckface Konig, tries to help her, and he ends up being what he didn’t’ want to be I wanted to cry about how unfair it was that the only good and honorable character in this series always ended up sacrificing everything he cares about.
This series and Marion especially pushes all my hate and rage buttons. WHERE IS THE JUSTICE?? WHEN WILL THE GOOD PREVAIL OVER EVIL?? I want EVERYONE (except Seth and Charity of course) to fucking DIE!!!!!! I'm so mad right now, I don’t even care about what happens next. Now excuse me while I go dance on the ashes of this fucking book.

Rating Math: 1 Star for Marion, 3 Stars for Seth, 5 stars for Charity and -5 stars for Konig = 2 Stars.
It is really difficult to like a book when you hate one of the main characters so much. Only a few authors (Mark Lawrence and Joe Abercrombie) have been able to pull it off for me to date but it is sad to say that this series hasn’t.

Actually there are a lot of words. It is a sad day when you get what the author is trying to do but still the delivery of that is so off for you that you end up just being annoyed. What we are supposed to be getting is Marion is feeling so guilty about the attack on the refuges and failing them that she is willing to sacrifice herself to make sure she can protect those who are left. What we actually get is someone who is letting EVERYONE walk all over her and isn’t really taking charge of anything. But I will rant about that a little later.
Seth is almost the only shining thing in this book and I was even a little annoyed with him. Seth is Death, except he doesn’t want to be anymore. He did it and lost all of his humanity. He didn’t care about anything or anyone while he was only Death. So he chose to be an avatar on earth and he may or may not be in love with Marion who is supposed to be marrying someone else. There were multiple parts in this book that I just wanted to suck it up and be Death. But at least I get his character and why he is avoiding it.
Charity at least gets fleshed out a little and I really like her now. She might be a revenant but she honestly seems like the only person with her shit together in this entire book
Now for the ranty part. (there will be spoilers)
Marion is on a new level of TSTL heroines for me. She does everything wrong. She trusts all the people who are backstabbing her and tries to persuade the one person actually on her side to side with the evil backstabbers.
Konig needs to die, but before that death he needs to be tortured and beaten and walk across a mile of scattered legos. That guy is an ass and I totally hate him. I actually threw up in my mouth a little when he was telling Marion of their EPIC love story he is totally screwing her cousin because Marion won’t sleep with him since she lost her memory and lied that the angels were the one to attack the court instead of the demons AND is putting a magical hex on a cute frost giant boy so he can’t tell Marion I hate him with a fiery and burning passion and guess I just think Marion who doesn’t really know the guy from anyone else should have read flags going off everywhere.
Marion is letting both Konig and his mother Violet pretty much run the realm that she is supposed to be the regent for. They keep changing things and making decisions without her knowledge, sitting in the throne there and she says and does nothing. THEN when that ass Konig who has up to this point only been verbally abusive gets drunk and beats the shit out of her, not only does she take it but makes excuses for him. She takes it and tells others why it is her fault.
I have a few problems with this since 1 – she isn’t really that kind of person but beyond that they don’t have a huge history. She can only remember about 1 - 2 months with this guy and she doesn’t trust him enough to sleep with him so why the hell would she make excuses for him. I just hated the entire scenario and the whole thing made her character so weak and worthless. I don’t believe that is who she really is. How does she go from being pretty bad ass to just taking it from everyone? At least Seth knows he want Marion if he doesn’t know anything else.
IF, I was reading this by myself I probably wouldn’t continue but since I’m reading it with my BB&B friends I want to continue because there is no way I can’t know how things are going to play out and sometimes it is a lot of fun to bag on all the characters that we hate. So I’m moving on to see if that jerk Konig ever gets what is coming to him. If Seth gets some kind of HEA since his is the one ending I really care about and if Marion finally gets a clue.
Here is to hoping the the payout at the end is totally worth it.

Man, I hate Konig. On a whole bunch of levels. His mom kinda sucks, too. All the political maneuvering and empty smiles make me want to punch both of them in the throat. Hard.
So, you know, this book kinda made me ragey. In that "WHEN ARE THEY ALL GOING TO HAVE DIVINE JUSTICE RAIN DOWN UPON THEM?" sort of way. I fully expect the divine justice part at some point. Since nothing's ever easy in S.M. Reine's universe, it'll take a while to get to that point, BUT IT WILL COME. FOR ALL OF THEM!
Meanwhile, things seem to be looking up on the Seth/Rylie front. That torch he's been carrying for her is tough to watch. Especially given how happy Rylie is with Abel. Or at least how fertile. Those two wacky werewolves sure do make babies with alarming frequency. But the Seth/Rylie thing needed to be hashed out. And it was. More or less.
I don't even know what else I can talk about without giving away all the juicy plot points. I kinda hate a lot of the fae (jerks. They're all jerks. And kinda arrogant.). I kinda hate Elise and James. They've always been a tough couple to deal with and godhood hasn't done them any favors. (I do love how difficult they are, just to be clear. They're just not easy. Ever. Elise would jump over a cliff just to spite someone after they told her it couldn't be done. Which is dangerous when it was coming from a kick-ass warrior, downright deadly now that she's a god.)
I honestly don't know how things are going to get smoothed out. There's BIG stuff happening all over the place and a lot of it isn't good. For the characters, that is. It's good to read. You know, in that ragey, divine justice sort of way.

Buddy read with the Wednesday UF Group at BB&B. I want to take the time and apologize to my fellow buddy readers for convincing you all to read this.
WARNING SPOILERS!
I'm so f@cking mad! This was one of the most frustrating books I've ever had the misfortune to read! I came so close to just giving up! *takes a few deep breaths*
I'm not sure where to start. Maybe with Seth the cry baby. Sure, you got the short straw and during Genesis you became the God of Death. Someone had to be and Elise chose you. You know why? Because you USED TO BE ONE OF THE MOST RESPONSIBLE GUYS ON THAT F@#KED UP WORLD!!! You know who else didn't want to be a God? Elise! Whom, by the way, had to deal with a lot more bullsh*t than you ever did. SO STOP BEING A BABY AND MAN UP! And maybe make up you mind on whether you want Rylie or Marion. The constant seesaw between the two is giving me whiplash. And dude, it's been like 30 years since Rylie cheated with your bother and left you. It's pathetic!
Now onto Konig *manic smile* I'm looking for some nice well rusted iron knife so I can carve the f@#ker to pieces! I hate him! I hate that cheating, abusive, victim-blaming piece of sh*t so damn much. Whatever death he gets will be too lenient. Too bad the old hell doesn't exist anymore because there were a few horrors in there that would have been a nice start to his torture. I even wish for Elise's father to come back to life and have a go at the cheating slime.
And then there's Marion. In the previous book she showed some improvement which promptly disappeared here. She's pathetic. And stupid. I still can't believe that she defended Konig after what he did. Here I thought that the Voice of God would not be one of those women that defend their abusers and find excuses for them. You're a disgrace to the Kavanagh name. You should have disemboweled the man, not MARRY HIM FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!! I just hate you all. *walks away in disgust*
*a few calming breaths later* Despite everything I said so far I plan to continue with the series because 1)I really want to know how this mess gets resolved 2) want to see them all die (well I know I won't get my wish but at least Konig, please) and 3)I'm a god damned masochist. And now I'm off to cool down a little before I start on the next book of this series. It must be better than this.

Wow, just wow! I need the next book like yesterday! Is it September yet?!
So, like halfway through things really started to get interesting for me, pulling me deep into the story where I was constantly sitting on the edge of my seat! Not that the first half was boring or anything because I rated this five stars haha. But as I got deeper into the story page after page just kept getting intense, always one upping the last twist of turns! As the pages were shrinking and I was getting close to the end, I was like, "There's no way in hell everything is going to tie up nicely in the end." Of course it isn't, why am I shocked when it's S.M Reine we're talking about here haha! AND it sorta ended with a cliffhanger, well a sub-plot cliffhanger, but still one nonetheless.
I still absolutely hate Konig but he's one of those characters that are written for you to hate, so bravo to Mrs. Reine's for doing such a brilliant job with him! I just can't stand him and what he did to Marion is unforgivable! After that scene I wanted to continue to read but I just mentally couldn't, I was so mad at him for doing that to her!
And Seth is going through some major struggles himself and I love seeing he's still there for Marion no matter what, they just need each other. However, I'm happy he went against Marion's wishes. In that scene I was pumping my fist, rooting for him and saying, "You go, Seth!". Seriously, it's swoon worthy watching him get protective and being there for her. It was cute watching them accept they have feelings for each other, just sadly Marion can't act out on them. She has a duty to her people and that sadly involves having Konig in her life.
Overall I just couldn't get enough and I seriously need my hands on the next book! After how things ended with Seth it's going to be interesting to see where this story goes! I honestly don't know what to expect! Marion is really growing on me and I can't wait for the moment where she just says, "Fuck this shit, I'm out of here!" Though in some way I know that will never happen haha. A girl can dream!

So I am having a love hate relationship with this series at the moment. But I happen to think the fact that it can pull me in that much is the mark of a good book. I am in no means a flip to the end to find out what happens first kind of person. but at the moment this series has me wanting to find out what happens in the end. which is also aggravating since I have to wait for the next book to be released. at the end of the day I must admit I am hooked and can't wait to see what comes next.

Cast in Faefire is book 3 of the Mage Craft series. This is one of my favorite storylines from this author; although there is character cross-overs from the Dana McIntyre, Ascension, Descent, and Seasons of the Moon series' (probably more, but these are the ones I'm familiar with). As usual with Mage Craft books, the action is non-stop, and the plot thickens from one story to the next.

Probably my favourite so far in this series - there has definitely been some solid character growth, as well as some interesting twists and turns. It definitely gets dark in parts, and the end of this book is fairly tragic, but overall it was an enjoyable read!

Well, that just happened... Gah! It's a good thing this author writes fast!
I feel like this review should be prefaced by a warning. Something like "Read at Your Own Risk" or "Be Prepared to Walk Away Totally Confused." Not by the book. The book was amazing. I'm referring to my lack of ability to convey how amazing books that I love are and how crazy talented the authors who pen them are. I guess if you've been here before, you already know that so consider yourself warned.
So, here's a contradiction for you. As much as I love S.M. Reine's books, she's driving me nuts with these newer series in her 'Descentverse'. That uneasiness first happened for me with War of the Alphas. My history with Reine's books started with the Seasons of the Moon series. Seth and Rylie were the foundation of my love for this crazy, intricate world. Sure, there were moments where they both aggravated me just a little. Neither one of them were angels (not a great comparison given the true nature of angels in Reine's world - but you get the picture.) The point is that I was right there with them through all the good and the bad and I respected who they became. Deirdre Tombs blew into this world in War of the Alphas with an entirely different perspective. A perspective that had me at odds with the heroine in the series because of her hate for Rylie.
So, what does my little vent about War of the Alphas and my love for Seth and Rylie have to do with the Mage Craft series and more importantly, Cast in Faefire? I'm getting there, just remember that warning I gave you. ;) S.M. Reine found a whole new way to gain an alternate perspective in Mage Craft. She took a character that was familiar (at least to most readers) and took away her memories. That made her free to not see Rylie as the mother figure she grew up with, but as the woman who broke Seth. Not only that, but Marion stumbled on some revelations that added fuel to her growing distrust of Rylie in Cast in Faefire. Granted, those revelations were most likely taken totally out of context, but Rylie still has some serious explaining to do. This series is also stirring up those initial pangs that occurred when Rylie first left Seth for Abel. To say that Cast in Faefire was an emotional roller coaster would be a huge understatement.
Beyond the fact that I wanted to defend Rylie, sympathize with Seth and help Marion make sense of everything, there was a lot more going on in Cast in Faefire. Seems that everyone had something to hide and some were better at it than others. Sacrifices were made by more than one character. New enemies were discovered and more than one strange alliance was made. You know, just a normal day in the life of Reine's characters.
Oh, and did I mention the cliff hanger and events that happened just before said cliff hanger? And the fact that I didn't think I could loathe Konig more than I did at the end of Cast in Hellfire, but that happened too? I kind of liked catching up with characters from previous series, but they, more often than not, added to the drama. Oh, that reminds me of the conspicuous absence of some key characters who really need to make an appearance. There are at least two more books in this series and after all that's happened and needs to happen I'm not sure that it can all be 'fixed' in Cast in Balefire and Cast in Godfire. I'm not going to complain if it takes more books though... there can never be too many books in the Descentverse. Okay, I'll stop before I have to remind you of that warning again.
Once again, I'm going to urge you to pick up at least one of S.M. Reine's series. Notice I didn't say 'books' - because I honestly believe that if you pick up one, you're going to want to read more. Also, the author will tell you, as well as a few devoted readers, that you can read any of the series as stand alones. Which, I suppose, is true. I feel like this review should be prefaced by a warning. Something like "Read at Your Own Risk" or "Be Prepared to Walk Away Totally Confused." Not by the book. The book was amazing. I'm referring to my lack of ability to convey how amazing books that I love are and how crazy talented the authors who pen them are. I guess if you've been here before, you already know that so consider yourself warned.
So, here's a contradiction for you. As much as I love S.M. Reine's books, she's driving me nuts with these newer series in her 'Descentverse'. That uneasiness first happened for me with War of the Alphas. My history with Reine's books started with the Seasons of the Moon series. Seth and Rylie were the foundation of my love for this crazy, intricate world. Sure, there were moments where they both aggravated me just a little. Neither one of them were angels (not a great comparison given the true nature of angels in Reine's world - but you get the picture.) The point is that I was right there with them through all the good and the bad and I respected who they became. Deirdre Tombs blew into this world in War of the Alphas with an entirely different perspective. A perspective that had me at odds with the heroine in the series because of her hate for Rylie.
So, what does my little vent about War of the Alphas and my love for Seth and Rylie have to do with the Mage Craft series and more importantly, Cast in Faefire? I'm getting there, just remember that warning I gave you. ;) S.M. Reine found a whole new way to gain an alternate perspective in Mage Craft. She took a character that was familiar (at least to most readers) and took away her memories. That made her free to not see Rylie as the mother figure she grew up with, but as the woman who broke Seth. Not only that, but Marion stumbled on some revelations that added fuel to her growing distrust of Rylie in Cast in Faefire. Granted, those revelations were most likely taken totally out of context, but Rylie still has some serious explaining to do. This series is also stirring up those initial pangs that occurred when Rylie first left Seth for Abel. To say that Cast in Faefire was an emotional roller coaster would be a huge understatement.
Beyond the fact that I wanted to defend Rylie, sympathize with Seth and help Marion make sense of everything, there was a lot more going on in Cast in Faefire. Seems that everyone had something to hide and some were better at it than others. Sacrifices were made by more than one character. New enemies were discovered and more than one strange alliance was made. You know, just a normal day in the life of Reine's characters.
Oh, and did I mention the cliff hanger and events that happened just before said cliff hanger? And the fact that I didn't think I could loathe Konig more than I did at the end of Cast in Hellfire, but that happened too? Installment three of the Mage Craft series, Cast in Faefire provides glimpses into the life of half Mage, half angel Marion, who also happens to be The Voice of God(s). Being The Voice is no easy task when one of them is your demon turned human turned God sister Elise and her angel turned God husband. Oh and because there must always be three (Gods), Marion's obsession - Seth turns out to be the third. You didn't know these details? Than you must have missed perusing the second book, go read it!!!
Back to the book at hand! Marion has made up her mind, while her heart isn't in it, to marry ErlKonig to protect the Winter Court from being attacked again (shhh don't tell anybody but her wards are failing and any old person or Phoenix can slip into the kingdom). But can she trust him? Well can she? Clue 1. What do Nori and the slain refugees have in common?
Oh and by the way, who was talking to Marion right before she was kidnapped and her memories removed? That person might hold the key to unlocking the big Marion mystery. Clue number 2. Think of Elise's relationship with a certain underworld librarian;)
Now where does Seth fit into this? He seems to be a little obsessed with Marion himself, even though her demon sister Elise crowned him, unwillingly at that, the new Demon God to serve her and the Underworld for all of eternity (yup that's a really long time to be under someone's thumb).
Whether or not he likes it, Seth is drawn to Marion, albeit because of fate, his need to protect her or because a certain powerful demon is back and wants to show them who's top dog (that's Clue 3. right there).

Once again SM Reine has added another favorite to our ever growing list of favorites!
As always I do my best to not over share info so you don’t have to worry about spoilers.
Some books deserve more than a 5-star rating and this would be one of them. Just when we think that we have the story line figured out and we know just what’s going to happen Reine pulls a white rabbit out of her hat and sends us spinning in amazement and wonder. If you don’t get anything else from her writing you will get that anything is possible; even cheating death (which we saw Elise do countless times).
As we continue to tag along on Marion and Seth’s journey you can’t help but love them and hate them all at the same time. As Marion tries to remember her past it’s easy to find yourself wishing she never remembers all while cheering her on all at the same time. If/when she remembers how will that change her and Seth’s relationship? Is it worth the risk? Or is it a risk at all? Seth, however, has his own problems to deal with. As much as he wants and tries to protect Marion is it possible that he could be what she needs protection from or is he the one who needs the protection instead? Seth finds himself battling his own problems that are inevitably tied to his destiny. Love seems to no longer be a possibility for these two as other things take propriety over what their hearts want. Or will love find a way?
So many questions, so few answers, and even less time left in this series! This is why I am ecstatic that Reine decided to expand the series from 3 to 5 books. There is so much we still need to know!
If you haven’t read any of ‘The Mage Craft’ series books you are missing out. The series can be read as a stand along series or if you want to learn more about Seth and Marion’s pasts then I suggest you start with the ‘Seasons of the Moon’ series.

Thank goodness this author writes fast! Because she kills me with almost all her books, there's always that ending that either leaves you cry, slack jawed or both! Lol and yes I feel the same about this one. It's not a cliff hanger but close. I happen to love how she does this though because it keeps me wanting more, right now!! And this book of course is fantastic! I also love this author's writing style. It's probably why I've read everything she writes! Man did she do some crazy things in this book too.
There's always been some "issues" with Rylie and now with Seth and things are getting complicated. And if you haven't read the other series this author writes, shame on you, but her worlds all coincide. Kinda. And probably one of the most emotional books as well, except when Rylie chose Abel over Seth, and when Seth kinda died lol see, getting deep. And I can't explain that if you don't know. But this is Marion's books and she's trying to figure a whole lot of things out, with her memory problem and all. But it's not all about living Rylie- I always will- and helping Seth, and cheering for Marion. There's some other complications going on. And there's enemies coming out of the woodwork like the long lost relative who won the lottery. Lol! So with that said, hold on to your britches!! This author writes villains better than almost any writer I've ever read! Seriously brilliant bad guys!!
I will always recommend this author. She has a gift and I love that she shares her gift with me! And every read who pick up her books! She's a fantastic fantasy writer!!! Sara has a habit of writing the unexpected and just when I thought I had the plot all worked out something dramatic happens and we go off on another tangent yet again. Marion is a much more likable character this time around as she was the female version of Konig before she lost her memories so I can see why they were well suited to each other. She is not that self-serving, stone cold witch that she used to be but the complete opposite. Personally I would like her to be a bit more confident and take charge rather than this doormat version of herself that exists at the moment. Seth - well he is the same, always looking out for the people he cares about regardless of what they have done to him and he will always love Rylie as she was his first real love.
So now the plan has been set in motion and Marion is caught up in the cross fire, damned if she does marry Konig and damned if she walks away from him and the Winter Court. It is great being a part of the Army of Evil. That's what Sara Reine calls her team of readers. She gives us a chance to read her books first and often for free, as this one was. I look forward to each and every book.
Yet, this was not my favorite. No, the writing was wonderful as usual. In fact, that was the problem. She kept us all in suspense wondering how Marion could love that Elkonig and ignore, yet again, Seth who is obviously in love with her.
The depth that the characters have reached in my mind. I have felt them all real in spite of the fantasy. I think having the real places (Reno, Las Vegas, etc.) mixed in with the fantasy realm which when I lived in Reno, I almost felt was actually there. The possibility that I might run into some of the characters, find my way into the bar that is the demon hang out--well, of course, I knew it was not real. But--what if?
And so the ley lines lead me back to writing this review. But first, the commercial I put in all the S. M. Reine reviews: Get the books. Start at the very beginning with the Six Moon Summer in the Seasons of the Moon series. Don't ever expect to be finished with her books as Ms. Reine is far more prolific a writer than anyone could be as a reader. ;-)

I debated between giving this book 4 stars and 5. I thoroughly enjoy Sara's writing style and I always wonder what's in store when I open one of her books. The reason I can't really give this book 5 stars is due to a spat of domestic violence near the end that plays at victim blaming. I understand that this highlights the difference between what a character once was and what they have become now, but I was so angry during that passage that I can't gloss over it.
On a lighter note, this book starts up with Seth's side and I enjoyed the break from Marion's tale. I like Seth's character development and the glimpses of Elise and James (give us morreeeeeee). Seth is dealing with his past demons (get it?) - he visits the sanctuary again, works with grown-up Dana again, and even speaks to his brother, barely, without a fight.
Overall I really enjoyed where this book was heading and how much Marion seems to have grown a sense of responsibility. She mourns for the dead, she's careful about her allegiances, and yet she's still just a child (sorry to all those 19 year olds who think they're not children anymore) - making rash decisions, trusting beyond belief, and chasing after love.
One side note - I'm surprised Jabril and the Angel faction are not playing a larger part in this series. I expected that they would be behind all the scheming but we see them very little. They are an ominous threat that looms just out of sight. I'm wondering if they will play a stronger role in the next book (along with Elise and James?).

Man, I'm glad things appear to have taken a pretty spectacular turn in this book. Marion was really starting to bother me with her lovestruck teenager vibe. On top of that - Seth is awesome! Why can't he ever catch a break? This book shows a lot of sacrifice, even more bloodshed, and everyone's true colors.
We begin this book with Marion and Konig still planning their wedding (or rather, Konig's mom and secret mistress are planning it). For someone who supposedly loves Konig, she sure spends a lot of time not knowing what she wants for this magical wedding. It hurt lots and lots to watch this happen while the reader knows all the horrible things that are going on behind her back. I also suspect that the memories Marion lost contain a not so pretty history between the two of them.
On top of that - Seth! They clearly love each other, but after the little vampirey meltdown he had, he is obviously in self punishment mode at the start. I get that he also has some literal wounds to heal and is trying to hide his big reveal from the last book, but I wish these two would just accept it and move on. Fate (or the gods?) seem to have it out for these two star-crossed lovers, though. You never get a really happy ending in this series, but I'm still hoping for one at the end. Maybe Seth will finally get something that is exclusively for him and not some other guy. I hate watching him play 2nd best when he is clearly the guy who deserves his happily ever after.

This is the third book in the Mage Craft series by SM Reine. The Magecraft books are a continuation of Reine’s long running series which is complex and one of the best series I've ever read. The reason her series is so successful is because it is comprised of many mini series. This way you get new characters to love without having to give up the old favorites since they still appear from time to time. The story lines never get dull because they continue to evolve with each new series.
Marion is going to marry Prince ErlKonig so that he can take charge of the wards in the Winter Court and carry the treaty of the Autumn Court over to the Winter Court. Deep down Marion knows she doesn't really love him but wants to save lives and do right by those in her charge. She will never have her memories back but she is a new person and hopefully that will be enough. Seth was badly injured during his fight in Sheol and has to find a way to stay alive. He doesn't want to be the third god in the triad and if he dies he won't have a choice. The chemistry between Marion and Seth is fantastic. Konig is just too smug and underhanded for my tastes. If you've never read any of Reine's books what are you waiting for! Her books are too good to miss.

I had such mixed feelings while reading this one. Firstly, of course, I loved it because I love all of these books and I actually think Sara can do no wrong. Secondly, I was so angry at certain characters. It started off as anger at Konig and Nori, but pretty quickly became just major rage at Konig. I used to think he could redeem himself, but no, just no. He crossed the line in this one!
I love Marion. I love this whole premise that she doesn't remember who she was, but she doesn't like the impression she gets of who she was and she is, in a way, rewriting her own history by being a better person. She reminds me of Elise when she embraces her former self, but in her memory-less state, she's so much more like Seth. People aren't often willing to change, and without even knowing who she is, she is trying to. That makes Marion that much more likeable for me.

I am one of the lucky few who get the pleasure of reading this novel, this whole entire series, before it comes out to be published.
After being slightly disappointed at the ending of the second novel in The Mage Craft series, I have to say that this one definitely redeemed it for me.
In this novel, more of the mystery of the past is unraveled. We have truths, betrayals and secrets that come to light. Kick ass action and Marion nor Seth are sitting this one out.
I do have to say the way we flipped from Seth to Marion was a bit chunky. It didn't flow as well as I'd have liked it to.
Without giving too much away, I was upset that Marion HAD to marry. The poor girl seems to deal with a lot of stuff that she shouldn't have to deal with, but that is what makes her such an amazing character to read about.
This novel had me by the seat of my pants and I couldn't wait to turn the page and find out what happened next.
The ending was once again, a cliffhanger. Will our new character be friend? Or foe? What will he have to say and most importantly, what is going to happen to Marion or Seth?! I certainly CAN'T wait to find out!

After being slightly disappointed at the ending of the second novel in The Mage Craft series, I have to say that this one definitely redeemed it for me.
In this novel, more of the mystery of the past is unraveled. We have truths, betrayals and secrets that come to light. Kick ass action and Marion nor Seth are sitting this one out.

I got this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I found this book to be incredibly frustrating. I have never liked Konig's character, so it irked me when he mistreated Marion, and when Marion chose to marry him anyways. Towards the end, with the fallout that occurred, I see that Konig's character may be redeemable, and I am hoping to see that evolution in subsequent books. I am still firmly team Seth, god or not. I think he finally deserves his chance at happiness.
I was intrigued by many story lines that were developed in this book. I am interested in seeing more of Dana, and I am excited to see what will happen with Arianne and the 'goat woman'.
Overall, it was a decent book; but I was frustrated in a way that I don't normally get from Reine's books. I think it was necessary for the development of the series, but I hope to see Marion standing up for herself more in the future.

Gripping story from beginning to end!!
SM Reine never ceases to amaze me with her books. Just when you thought you knew where she was going with the storyline, wham!, she blindsides you by going in a completely different direction. Part of me wants Marion to go back to being badass Marion so she can kick Konig (& a few others) ass, but I like this version of Marion. Nori got what she deserved. I am disappointed with how things went for Seth, however I'm excited to see what the future brings for him. I'm glad Dana ended up having a little bit of a conscience & helped. I was hoping for a surprise appearance of someone in Marion's life but that was not the surprise guest I had in mind! There are still several unanswered questions that left me hanging but I'm sure MS. Refine will address them in the next book or possibly in a future series....now hurry up and write lol.

You know when there's an author whose books you devour, and you can't wait to get the next one, but you know that when you do, you're gonna read the book in one go and then have to wait? Yep. Sara Reine is one of those authors for me.
I said in my review of Cast in Hellfire that this was shaping up to be one of the best series from this author. Cast in Faefire has solidified that view.
This book covers a reasonably short window of time, but the amount of action packed into the pages is concentrated and explosive. I felt that this book elevates the story arc to a new level. Deception, death and devastation. This book is a literary slap to the face.
Well executed and completely engrossing. I'm actually starting to like Marion - a lot!

That was certainly a wedding to remember. I knew it was going to be a good story after where we left off last book. In this one Marion and Konig are quickly approaching their wedding of convenience. The Autumn Queen had taken over prep and Main is hiding from the soon to be groom and dashing off to find the darknet servers with Seth. The book brings in some of the characters from other series (Deidre) in the same universe and continues to evolve the relationship but not between Marion and Seth. I really enjoyed this book and it ends with some major twists and turns that make me want the next book to come out even faster.

Things really heat up in book 3!
Marion decides to do what she thinks is right for everyone but herself and ErlKonig believes being king and having great power is at his finger tips, but not everyone thinks the wedding should go ahead. People you don't suspect as being devious are and those who you think should be surprise you. Then poor Seth is stuck in the middle struggling to stop changing to what he destine to be and what he wants to be. Don't make any plans when you decide to start reading as this book as you wont want to put it down until the end as there are so many ups and down as well as twist and turn to put down !
Can't wait until book 4 !

After returning from her jaunt through hell with Seth, Marion has been trying to piece together her past by reading her journals and using the internet to learn more about magic and spells. She is blood tied to the winter court and she must blood let to insure that the boundaries are safe. Meanwhile, Seth still isn't healing from his tangle with Arawn's hounds and it is looking a little conspicuous. Marion and Seth find each other at the Werewolf Sanctuary and help each other out again.
This book is a must read! Great series! Amazing characters!
