Godstone Saga #4

Wings of Fire: Godstone Saga, Book 4

Rate this book
Secrets can kill.

The Goddess of Fire calls from the Isle of Stone, and Caelan must obey.

But the new king must first unravel a lifetime of secrets if he wants to have any chance of saving Drayce’s life.

Caelan and his companions battle dragon clans and cranky gods in their quest to protect their world from the Goddess of the Hunt.

And if they’re lucky, they might even get a little help from an unexpected source.

Wings of Fire is the fourth book in the six-book Godstone Saga fantasy series and is not a stand-alone. The story contains danger, secrets, bossy gods, stolen kisses, a new king finding his way, a possessive boyfriend, magic, and lots of delicious angst.

OMG this book nearly broke me!

Some authors know just exactly how far push their readers when it comes to the perils they put beloved characters through.

In Wings of Fire Jocelynn Drake takes it to the max and makes you run through the full gamut of emotions from powerful rage, deep sorrow and overwhelming joy.

Honestly, this book was such a journey of highs and lows that it took me right to the edge of despair and back again.

I loved everything about the adventures on the Isle of Stone and the revelations that came out now seem so obvious with all that new knowledge.

I'm so intrigued by the rapid changes in just which of the Gods and Goddesses are actually the heroes and which are the villains.

Book five, when we will meet the God of Wisdom, can't come soon enough!

I so love this series ... and this one is among all the greatness. Maybe my favourite

First review
This series has been epic till now and this book tops the others, as I think that every book gets better and better and this one is one for my best-of shelf.
But be aware: this is definitely not a stand-alone, but a must-read in order series!

and OMG is this an emotional ride. I was heartbroken, crying sad tears, crying happy tears, wanted to smash things, wanted to cuddle some, was laughing ... and a lot more. This is such a great book.
I loved the story and really, I don't think anybody should discuss a lot of the story because I think it would just spoiler a lot.

I LOVED Cael and Drayce - these two are unbelievable together. Rayne is one of my favorite characters and Eno just fit (although we don't see a lot of his POV in this book)

so, as far as I can see, there should be at least two more books (I would love three even more) and I can't wait to get my hands on the next one "Embrace the light"

I am so happy that GRR provided me with an ARC, which changes nothing on my honest review

Did it ever happen to you that you're consumed by the action, captured by curiosity about the proceedings and quite liked some plot discoveries so you're unable to stop reading but when you take a step back because you tripped over a statement you feel uneasy about or the world building seems to show dark grey areas, that you then ask yourself what keeps you reading because suddenly you get the impression that the author is telling you something about one of the main characters but what she's showing doesn't match and now you start to question also other aspects … but just right in time the story makes another turn that promises to sweep you away and maybe everything will be good afterwards? That's what happens to me reading this series and what makes it quite difficult to rate it. From an action and plot point of view it might easily be a 4 or maybe even a tiny bit more and different to the last book I also believe the society building of the Isle of Stone is working and I enjoyed the slight touch of medieval Japan (maybe I'm completely wrong but that's how I pictured the dragon island), but then there are those trigger warning scenes and their real fast solutions, those discussions about self justice, the downgrading of Masaru from an haughty, cold-hearted war lord to a vain bully, the lingering doubt about Rayne being that good of an advisor … all those simple short moments which makes it hard not to go with 3 stars but then again: I didn't close the book until after midnight during a working week, so I guess at least the rounding up to 4 is justified.

Guys.. GUYS. This series is epic, and with each book the world and story become more complex and captivating and utterly brilliant. Jocelynn Drake has outdone herself with this installment, giving us a story with so much heart and fight and love and pain that it is unforgettable. The Isle of Stone is a dangerous place for many reasons, but it also brings so many answers and so much .. well I’ll let you figure that out on your own, but this is my favorite part of this series to date. I laughed, I cried, and I read it as fast as my poor eyes could take in all the words. And oooh, there are a couple of new characters that I am REALLY hoping for stories about. *fingers crossed*

I refuse to spoil any of this book for you all because seriously you need to experience the series, and especially this book, for yourself. I cannot WAIT for more. ALL the stars. Thank you, Jocelynn Drake, for giving life to these characters and then gifting them to us. I just know they will stay with me for a long time to come.

Wow!! Seriously this book is amazing!!! This series is really good, each book will have you on edge! Each quest is more dangerous and life changing! Jocelynn Drake has created an amazing world fill with so many characters that would make you love them! Now is time to visit The Isle of Stone and the goddess of fire, they don’t know anything about the Isle so this time maybe is going to be more dangerous for them, they also need to find out about certain someone that flew away in the last book…I think this is a life changing book for all of them….I laughed, I cried so much with this story, so many things happened. I can’t say much because the whole book is a spoiler but let me tell you that this is a epic journey, I can say that this was my favorite book of the serie.

I desperately want the next book! Jocelynn Drake you are a master mind!! I definitely recommend this book and each book in this serie!

I'm so looking forward to when Cael finally tells Drayce about his game with Nyx. Not💀.

Adrien was such a wonderful addition to this series, although I was kinda hoping for Haru to join their adventures too *pout*.

I'm totally shipping Haru and Adrien btw. They have the whole annoying each other to death thing going on and would certainly make a great enemies-to-lovers story.

Amazing!

This is not at all a standalone, so if you've made it this far you know the trials and tribulations Caelan, Drayce, Eno and Rayne have been through in the first three books in the series. The rollercoaster only gets more up, down and twisty turny here. I love these four characters and their incredible bond (we're introduced to some great new ones, too), and they're definitely put through the wringer again with more journeying into the unknown, political manoeuvring and god wrangling. Good grief, I cried, I laughed, I cried again - a lot! - and marvelled at this perfectly put together installment in what's genuinely becoming one of my favourite fantasy series ever. No spoilers from me, but do take heed of the trigger warnings.

It's an easy 5* from me for this brilliant tale of love, found family, living with the will of several uncompromising gods and, ultimately, fighting for what's right. I cannot wait for the next Godstone Saga installment.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.25 stars

Wings of Fire is the fourth in the Godstone Saga and this series must be read in order. This particular installment has several trigger warnings for a scene of graphic violence and references to suicide and an on page suicide attempt. So please be aware if either of those things is problematic for you.

Caelan is definitely struggling at the start of Wings of Fire. Drayce has disappeared and the burden of having so many gods within him is starting to break him. It’s beginning to seem that even if Calean can defeat the Goddess of the Hunt, he won’t survive the experience.

This series just keeps getting better

First, trigger warnings. Take them seriously. I just about stomped onto Facebook to put a note on Jocelynn Drake's page that she is not allowed to have her characters back until she promises to be sweet to them.

Maybe because of the intensity of this story, it is my favorite in the series so far. It's also got more romance, I think.

There's some heat, some sweetness, lots of action, fiund family, and dragons. What else do you need?

It is not a standalone and the series needs to be read in order. While this installment ends in an HFN, there is still a lot of story to go before it's all wrapped up.

Highly recommend!

This follows the story of Cealan and his struggles with the gods that reside rent free in his brain and his potential health issues coz of bondings. Moreover his quest to find and bond a new God, goddess of Fire. Meanwhile Drayce has gone awol and he wants his friend back.
.
Writing, plot, character development, twists and turns get better and better.

Still a great story, but this one just a dragged a bit in the middle. I found it way too easy to put my kindle down and come back to it later. Hopefully the next book will have more adventure and suspense to it.

OMG !!! This series just gets better and better. There’s sooo much going on with emotional ups’n’downs and plot twists with more twists, you’ll end up with neck strain from all of the WTF moments! Obviously, the story picks up from where the last book ended – on the road again…… Our guys go through some very very rough patches…. and just when you think our guys are solid again, somethings (yes, more than one !) happen – it will grab you by the heart, stomp on it a few times and be put back with care – have tissues handy. There are light-hearted moments and we get to meet new characters – love the cousin !! And Adrian…can’t wait to see more with them…. Overall, a wonderfully freakin’ brilliant book !

*This review will have spoilers for the first three books in the series so skip this if you have not started The Godstone Saga yet.

I’ve been dying for this book since I read the previous one in @jocelynn.drake’s exciting series back in December and wow we are smack in the middle of the most adrenaline-inducing ride along with Caelan and friends! After the jaw dropping revelation at the end of *Wake the Dead* we find Caelan, Eno and Rayne back in Erya trying to plan the next step in their adventure to find the God of Fire and figure out what happened to Drayce after he flew off in his newly revealed dragon form. My heart hurt for Caelan throughout this book on so many levels, and I think the tightrope dance he is doing between a painfully young man who is still reeling from his family’s death, and the King with the burden of keeping his kingdom from falling into the hands of the enemy in the most difficult of ways, was excellently done. The weight of not only his responsibility but also of bonding with gods who, more often, feel like a necessary evil was even more clear in this book and we see the physical and mental toll it is taking on Caelan. Of course, all of this is made harder by venturing into a land that has historically kept itself at arm’s length from Erya and the group has to quickly figure out who is on their side and who is not.

*Wings of Fire* also spends some significant time with each of our characters, as they must face some of the emotional tolls this entire quest is taking on them. While it was heartbreaking to see what they each had to deal with, I also loved watching them lean on each other to soothe their bruised psyches and their tired bodies.

I’m both excited and really nervous for what will happen in the next two books which is just evidence for how amazing this series is. This was an exciting and emotional ride and 5 fiery ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ all the way!

CW: one scene with graphic violence and one scene with an attempted suicide. Chapters with this content are clearly marked.

I've praised this series for being thrilling, unexpected, and captivating, but I can honestly say that this book made me gasp out loud more times than any of the rest. This chapter of adventure, surprise reveals, and emotional moments was on a whole new level of intensity, and the truths revealed here left me questioning everything I thought I knew. Caelan, Drayce, Eno, and Rayne continue to evolve throughout their journey, and while this story had some of their darkest moments, it also put the consequences of each character's actions into a new perspective. It's not that Caelan and crew weren't taking things seriously before, but in the excitement of reading about their exploration of new cultures and bonding with new gods and goddesses, I let myself forget about their destination. These men have more than proven their loyalty, tenacity, and cleverness, but this story explored the burden of that responsibility and emotional toll these events have taken on all of them. I had my heart broken more than once by the situations Caelan, Eno, Rayne, Drayce, and Adrian found themselves trapped in, and it was a fitting reminder of how much more will be expected of these warriors before they finally get to rest. Thankfully, for every moment of pain, these men banded together to support each other and heal from the difficult journey. As heavy as this book got at times, it also had moments of exciting new discoveries, sweet romance, and hilarious camaraderie. I really enjoyed seeing how Adrian found his place in the close-knit friendships that existed beforehand, and deep dive into dragon history and culture was fascinating for me. I wish I could talk more about all the amazing reveals this book had, because oh my god were some of them game-changing, but I'm sticking to my goal of being spoiler-free. I will say that the Goddess of Fire was nothing at all like I expected and I think she may be my favorite of them all.

**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.

Before starting: I tagged first time, but I'm not 100% sure that it was. I think yes though..(SPOILERS IN THE REVIEW)

This 4th book in the series seemed to go faster in some parts and way too slow in others. There were some gruesome scenes, like Drayce having his wings cut off, Rayne attempting suicide and Drayce killing his own father, but also nice scenes like Adrian joining the team, Haru making his first appearence(and I think he will be Adrian's man in the future), Caelan meeting his Dragon side of the family, and he and Drayce having their first time together.
I still found the book interesting, but I'm really starting to wish that the series was a bit shorter and that I could know the end already.

Mind blowing instalment!

Drayce was an absolute sweetheart but his blood family were horrible - suffice to say I wouldn’t wish his family on anyone. There was one point in this amazing book where I was crying my eyes out. When Drayce said he’ll handle it: even in my wildest dreams, I never thought things would go down the way they did. What happened to Drayce was cruel, horrifying and completely shattered my heart.

Caelan had a few massive surprises but the biggest one warmed my heart. I know I’m talking in riddles a bit, but I seriously don’t want to give away any details.

I’m really enjoying this series and I’m looking forward to the next one.

5 Glowing Stars! I’d add a million if I could…
Holy Wow…. The books keep getting better even though they are amazing already, mind blown….it’s also surprising and oh so sad this time around. I cried way to much and needed to take a break, my heart couldn’t take it, yikes. Lots of angst and some trigger warnings in this book. I so love King Caelan and Drayce, Rayne and Eno, now Adrien. The Omani Clan too. So Freaking Good & A Must Read but you have to read books in order! I so can’t wait for the next book!!

No time for rest for our guys! Once again, they are off on a dangerous journey. This time they have a beloved Dragon to save! I love how they have all become a tight self-made family unit! We get a lot more fun and familiar banter in this one too! We have a new addition Adrian, so I am looking forward to getting to know him even more and see how he merges in with everyone! I received an ARC and as this entire series has been this a continuing epic tale that has the perfect blend of action, suspense, romance, angst and humor!! Keep em coming!

Wings of Fire is the fourth book in this series. It takes place 3 months after Wake the Dead. In that book, Drayce reveals himself as a dragon and disappears. Cael and his travelling companions are trying to find him. The next leg in their journey is to go to the isle of Stone to bond with the Fire Goddess, Caris. A lot of action awaits them and what happens to poor Drayce with his family is heartbreaking. I highly recommend this series and cannot wait for Embrace the Light. I received a copy of this book for my review.

ᑎO ᗯOᖇᗪՏ ... OᑎᒪY ՏTᗩᖇՏ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Some authors know just exactly how far push their readers when it comes to the trials, tribulations, and utter perils they put beloved characters through. This entire series has been absolutely thrilling, unexpected, and captivating, and I can honestly say that this book made me gasp out loud and even clutch my heart more than any of the rest. This most recent installment of adventure, surprise reveals, and emotionality is on an entirely different level of intensity, and the truths revealed here left me questioning things I’d 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕 we’d learned so far. In 𝘞𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘍𝘪𝘳𝘦, Jocelynn Drake takes her storytelling prowess the maximum level and takes the reader through a complete gamut of emotions from powerful rage, deep sorrow and overwhelming joy. Honestly, this book was such a journey of highs and lows that it took me right to the edge of despair and back again.

Though they are all adults, Caelan, Drayce, Eno, and Rayne continue to grow and evolve throughout their journey. While this story had some of their darkest moments, it also put the consequences of each characters’ actions into a new perspective. Not that the travelers weren't taking their task seriously before, but in the excitement of reading about their exploration of new cultures and bonding with new gods and goddesses, I let myself forget about their ultimate destination. These men have more than proven their loyalty, tenacity, and cleverness, but this story explored the burden of that responsibility and emotional toll these events have taken on all of them. Wings of Fire is on fire!!!

Mind = blown; emotions = whirlwind; cravings = insatiable. I am utterly, completely, and ecstatically in love with this phenomenal book. The depth of writing with the incredible characters, the underlying theme, the overall story arc, it all overwhelms me in the most perfect of ways. The intense action and reveals are superbly plotted as are those frustratingly addictive gods who continue to lead our heroes on a, not merry in the slightest, but exciting and thrilling race to beat Safa. We get ever closer and yet I still feel like there’s so much more we need to learn. I’m here for it all.

“What they were was a family. A bickering, teasing, complaining, and very likely meddling family.” A true family that warms my heart to my very soul. This book deals with some heavy, heart wrenching topics, like buckets of tears and anger, but oh the powerful ways this family rallies to protect, to fight, to thrive, it healed all the bruises and wounds on my heart. Not to mention the many, many ways, small and big, Cael and Drayce, and Rayne and Eno, show much they care and love one another, that set my heart all a flutter and made it fly. With each book I leave it thinking how can this amazing series get any better and with each new release, without fail, it does. I am ready to embrace the light and more answers with my favorite Eryan family.

Caelan has been tasked with bonding with all the Old Gods; he has bonded with three already, and now he needs to find the Goddess of Fire on the Isle of Stone. While there, he also hopes to find his best friend, Drayce. Caelan and his friends battle dragon clans, and some old secrets are revealed.

This is book four in a six-book series I just flew through; I loved all the characters, except the Gods and the world the author built. The series is a roller coaster ride from beginning to end. While the Gods haven't been very upfront in the rest of the book, in this one, you can tell they are hiding things, and I started to question if they are good guys or not. I'm glad I didn't find this series until all the books were out because I'm not sure I could have waited for the end.

In my opinion the best part of the series so far. I read the book quickly and enjoyed it very much. Some passages are too fast paced in my opinion (when it comes to trauma) and some passages feel too easy (like the whole story with the half-breeds but Caelan is accepted immediately). Otherwise, I found the whole story about Drayce very exciting and I like the new characters.
