I felt like there was very little to advance the plot of the main story arc, unlike the previous books. Yes, there were several chapters that furthered any of the characters. There was one point where Lasgol actually made an attempt to correct the disconnect with his aura, then it was largely ignored. That’s one example, but each of the characters brought very little to the book.
When I first started the series, it wasn’t apparent that they were written for a young audience, but this book was written in the most basic levels of all of them so far.
The first time I read The Hobbit was when I was in 2nd grade, and that wasn’t “dumbed down” for a younger audience. This story could be so much greater without the banter of six years olds. Viggo’s dialogue has become banal, and repetitive. His (and the rest) lack of depth is frustrating.
With that said, I want to see where the story takes us, but I just wish the writing targeted an audience that wasn’t still reading 30 page books, with monosyllabic lines.

Big Step in Maturation
This book starts out great with the entire team, minus Gerd who is still in recovery from specialization training gone wrong, taking on a complex mission with clock like precision. Every team member has a role to play and gets to show of their skills and talents.

There is a little angst over the leadership they work for and the flavor of the mission (a heist), but the long plot of Egil and rebellion is well buried. Orten is consistently a hateful slime.

Gondabar and the other Ranger leadership seem to have settled into their roles and acknowledged the value and skill of the Snow Panthers.

There is some comic relief with Viggos desire to just keep the gold. The various romantic entanglements within the team are all developed and maturing over time. No surprises there.

The team conveniently gets breaks and multi-week mini-vacations between missions, giving them plenty of time to pursue their extra-curricular interests.

There are vignets for each of the rangers as they pursue their own interests, reuniting with family, revealing more of their backstory to their confidents, and the like. It all flows very smoothly and is well constructed.

Even Camu has grown a lot physically, continues to develop his magic skills. He still talks like a small child.

More comic relief with Lasgol returning home and interacting with Ulf.

After successfully concluding a very dangerous mission into neighboring Zangria for Duke Orten, he gives the Panthers are given time off for 6 weeks. Each them head off on personal business promising to meet at the Shelter to check on Gerd. Lasgol goes home to his village, Astrid goes to take care of a personal matter, Nilsa heads home to see her family, Engil hurries back to the Camp to do some research, leaving Ingrid and Viggo to head there first, with a stop along the way that turns deadly.

This book is about the adventures each one has along the way.

Footnote: 1) Where does Egil keep the travel journals that he finishes? I doubt he carries them all with him. I hope it’s a safe but accessible place. His home or the Camp library maybe?

2) I think writers and editors are relying too much on computer editing programs. I’m finding more and more spelling, grammar and wrong word errors in books lately. This one has a scattering of them, at least 1-2 per chapter. p160: King Leonidas ‘boosted’ art and sciences’. p A thorough reading by a real person as a final edit is always a benefit. The best way is to read it out loud. My husbands a writer so I know firsthand.

Fave scenes: Camu helping Egil on the mission, Viggo & Ingrid fighting the bullies, Nilsa confronting Josh in the woods and Lasgol’s healing idea and Camu flying with Viggo.

Getting Old

I have enjoyed this series very much. But as I read farther into the stories, I find myself skipping the pages that cover the teasing dialog of the Panthers looking for action. It is getting old and repetitive. I don't think I will read anymore books in this series.

I am discouraged by the fact that many authors are writing series' and not stand alone books. I am struggling to find my next read in Kindle in Scifi/ fantasy.

Great book. had lots of adventures for nearly all the Snow Panthers. They all shined. Their training from the previous book was used in this book. I was glad. I also liked they introduced two potential groups that will cause problems for our heroes. Spoiler alert. Viggo nearly dies again. this is twice in like 2 of 3 books. is it a tease or what? I hope these late portal adventures have a payoff. It seems weird to have the characters do little random quests early book and then near the end of the book get rushed with all kinds of adventures finally dealing with the book title or the steady growing overall plot from the last few books. Overall, I'm very intrigued with the direction of this series again after reading this book.

Continued Greatness

The author continues to write a great story. The saga of Lasgol and his friends continue as his gift grows and he finds new ways to use his talent. Given a few weeks off to rest and connect with family after their previous adventure, the Panthers/Eagles separate and each heads to their own homes. We learn more about each Ranger's history. After all the homecomings, they gather to visit Gerd. I recommend this book due to the revelations into each character's past and the turn of events that lay the groundwork for future books.

Love the series and this book definitely had it's moments. I enjoyed Ingrid and Viggo as well as Nilssa's stories. The main story was a bit odd and plodding. Also, I really feel like Lasgol's story is spinning. His relationship with Astrid is stale and a shoulder shrug. As for his abilities, we keep hearing about his magic ability, but not much is done with it. He's not a great shot with the bow and ok with the ax, but we kept hearing how great his potential was in earlier books but here we are in book 13 and not much has changed with him. He has 5 specialties most of which are yawners.

Not much really exciting going on in this one here Gerd is starting to make a slow recovery. As for the rest of the friends they had a little bit of action mostly visited with their families. The panthers had an Item stolen from the from a not yet named group. Lasgol unfortunately hasn't learned any more of what he can do with his so called magical powers and hopefully that will change in the next one.

Book 13

Book 13 had errors throughout and was an okay read. The book focused more on the individual characters and what they were doing than an overall of the plot. They mostly had their own adventures and then it was an adventure with all of the characters for 30% of the book towards the end. The ending was also a cliffhanger to a point, setting up for the next book.

eh 3 1/2 maybe

This was one rambling book. There was so much of it, and the same thing being told over and over I almost gave up reading it. Only my interest in Lasgols story kept me going. It’s getting a bit random now. Having read the books that were a few years after this, I know what is going on somewhat. Guess I’ll still read next one.

While I’m willing to recommend this book I must disclose to you that I’ve read all 20 in the series. The last book is an unmitigated disaster. The author was clearly tired of the work and just gave up. You can enjoy the journey if you want but trust me when I tell you that you will be utterly devastated. I can’t get over it. I’ll never read another one of his books again. You have been warned

Incredible Journey!

This entire series is movie worthy! Spectacular writing; page turning missions of magic; the Panther’s loyalties are one for all and all for one! Books one through thirteen continued to develop different serious situations making each story unique. Looking forward to book 14: Mission in the East ;-)

The entire opening plan didn’t make sense, they could have gotten the gold with so much ease but for some reason chose an incredibly complicated plan…

The character development was slightly better in this book but it could still get better!

Good Story But …

Loved

I loved getting to know the characters lives and history before the Panthers. This was a great read. Then add the additional adventure and medical magic and this became a fast favorite in the series.

Another amazing book in the series

Though this book is not as action packed and exciting it clears up a lot of question I had about the other ones. As usual though i am ended with more questions then answers and am ready to dive straight into the next book.

Again a recurring theme in this series seemed to be the author seem lost for the first 250 pages of book then when he gets to the story the book ends and hopefully the next book won’t take as long to get started

Entertaining read

Quality short stories featuring the individual Panthers, that merges into a group single story with a fun adventure and conclusion. The author then sets up a cliff hanger for the next book. This fun and enjoyable series makes you want to read more…
