Dragon Goddess #3

Unexpected Heat

Rate this book
Things are falling apart.
I’ve been betrayed and captured, but that’s not even the worst part….
I’m in heat. Three hundred years early.

When I get my hands on those who betrayed me, I’m going to punt their butts over the dang moon! First, though, I need to work on escaping this dungeon while also surviving the torture by the traitors trying to steal my power.

Idiots. Just wait until I get my hands on a blade.

After merging with Beasty, I was left struggling to handle the onslaught of power as my dragon instincts spun out of control. I’ve been betrayed by someone I trusted, and now I’m being held in a dungeon straight out of a movie.

To make matters worse, I’m in heat. My early heat—300 years early, to be exact. Without my yummy mates to ease the heat, the dragon’s instinct to mate is becoming unbearable. Between the torture and the heat, my body is growing weaker with each passing day. How much longer before the heat makes me lose control?

The only one showing me any kindness is the mysterious pointy-eared guard…but what exactly is he? And can I take another mate without knowing anything about him? If I want to survive, I may have to take another mate before I become too weak to escape. It’s not just my life that is at stake.

I might have someone else needing my protection now....

When I finally get free, there will be no more suppressing my powers. I will never be held captive or separated from my mates again. I will emerge an avenging queen ready to take back her kingdom.

With the roaring ocean and flashing lightning responding to my commands, nothing will stop this goddess! The Dragoness of the Sea has awakened.

I’m going to get revenge. I’m going to win, no matter the cost.
If you are in my way, you better move.
Because nothing is going to stop me. Nothing.

This queen’s coming for her crown.

There’s fire and steam in this paranormal dragon romance. This is the final book in the series, and there will be a happily ever after ending.

Story Continuity and Typos

Spoilers…

Still here? Ok. Well. There’s a Guard. His name is Pixie. Clearly a mate. Tia’s heat is a blazing inferno. She dies. But not really. Beauty comes back and basically says it’s because of her heat that Tia died but if she just did the horizontal mambo with Guard…her power would be restored. The heat was getting bad because her body needed to conceive.

She was worried about Cage impregnating her. But it didn’t make sense if the heat was so unbearable she needed to conceive. And then? Bombshell? She was already pregnant when she was thrown in the dungeon so not Cage’s?

The story was so sloppy. The majority was one large tedious sex scene. It could have been good. But it was rushed. The plot sacrificed for gratuitous sex. I’m all for a great reverse harem and some steamy scenes but this was just over the top. Oh and please proofread…

So the ending wasn’t all that satisfying for me. But it did wrap everything up nicely.
I kind of just wanted an extra epilogue or 2 with them all living happily years down the line. That’s just what I always want though. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I like the cliche epilogues.

To be totally honest I was going to suggest skipping this series. Not only do things move at light speed, there’s so much happening it’s rather overwhelming. But somehow this book redeems it all, especially the evil mate because hot damn do they dish out some excellent revenge. I mean bringing someone back from the dead, turning them into a literal worm for an eternity in hell is about as epic as it gets. She gets another mate and nothing really phased me anymore once they destroyed all their enemies. In fact it was almost laughable once her true powers came out how much she could do and how far her reach became. I’ve read other books by this author and definitely enjoyed them more and found them funnier. Yet in the end I can’t deny my vindictive side has come out to play and the bloodlust has been avenged. It’s making all the little things I disliked pale in comparison 😝 Insta-love, fast pacing and cluttered plot, says who?!? The series altogether is pretty short too which helps.

For such a heavy set fantasy task, the book managed to be lighter and cosy, even the smex had love and cosy undertone in the steamy hot smut depth.

I enjoyed the final book and found myself laughing more and more at the circles antics bromance and strengthened love bonds to Tia. The ending did feel a tad lacklustre compared to the struggle and fight of the series... but it was also nice to have a HEA wrapped up with a click.

I would recommend this series. It also has the rejected mate element but is done in a different way to others. A beautiful example of how a fated mate bond is there to speed up the connection if you accept all your mate as is and how power can corrupt the most sacred of things in the paranormal fantasy world. Wish I could squish the worm, too! Reference makes sense if you read the book 😉

In the end doesn’t work…

**Spoilers**

Tia’s family is murdered and she’s found in a forest by two good natured kind wolves. They bond but don’t mate with her. When she gets to the pack and the Alpha returns home they (Tia and Cage) INSTANTLY like boom love at first sight, mate bond snaps into place…and that’s when the book and subsequent series goes downhill.

Cage is her first mate. We get almost an entire book- almost- with chapters of his POV where he’s devoted, in love with, saves Tia from danger. She loves him so much she is hesitant to make any other connections. Then a battle occurs and Cage abandons her because she’s not the weak Little “let me keep you barefoot and pregnant in the house” wolf/dragon he imagined he’d grow up to mate. As hard as this was to accept, Tia goes on to mate Luke and Levi the other wolves AND her true true mates the dragons (whom I adored!). But where the author really messed up was when she couldn’t just “let it go”. In order to make a HUGE plot twist (which wasn’t necessary and frankly was stupid and abusive and awful!) she brings Cage BACK into Tia’s life and allows him to seduce her. After which he kidnaps her, brings her to his psycho mother and then TOGETHER they torture her (even if he does whine a bit not to hit her in certain places etc or go toooo far because he could’ve impregnated her when he falsely horribly tricked her into sleeping with him). This plot twist and I’m certain it was meant to be a big OH LOOK HOW HUGE A PLOT TWIST I CAN MAKE by the author was just incredibly unnecessary!! The Queen could’ve done the damage without having to kill the readers hope that Cage her FIRST MATE was a treasonous villain of huge proportions! She should’ve just left him out of the rest of the books (Tia was happy and fulfilling her destiny without his return) or if she brought him back, it should’ve been to 1. Either join the circle again (although he really didn’t deserve her after deserting her) so probably not a great option or 2. Just BROKEN THE BONDS WHEN THEY BROKE when he told her he felt them break -oh and this bond breaking happened when he wasn’t even there- wasn’t even in the plot/story anymore so any other appearances by him were wholly unnecessary! To set up her first true mate as her abuser and enemy not only ruined the entire series, but killed all the romance that could’ve been found. It even tainted her bonds with the others because a strong dragon like Tia wouldn’t have been taken for a ride like that.

So yes, in the end this series which had so much potential died when the romance died.

too many questions and holes in this story

Look the math isn’t mathing on this book. So many questions and jokes in this story. If Damien can read minds, how come he couldn’t read his parents? If she was already pregnant, she wouldn’t have continued to be in heat or it would’ve waned. Also, if she died, how was she still pregnant? Tia makes a lot of cultural references for someone who was isolated in their childhood. Trixie and Damien? Hate it. What made her have a change of heart? The soldier said, “We are one of the three elite troops in this kingdom, feared by the supernatural and human worlds alike.” I thought humans didn’t know about the supers. How can Tia restore a voice but not her scars? Just doesn’t make sense. We never got an explanation about Leo’s father. Why would we never find out Pixel’s real name? Again how is she judging humans if they didn’t know supers existed?

Book Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 Stars
Series Review: 4 Stars

This was a pretty good series and I enjoyed reading these books a lot. I probably won’t ever read them again though, and I sorta wish there was an extended epilogue, but this series was really good nonetheless.

- There is a MASSIVE and permanent betrayal in this series
- kidnapping, torture, imprisonment
- 6 mates (2x wolves, dragon, fae, vampire, warlock)
- FMC is a dragon shifter
- Royalty (+ gods and goddesses)
- 3/5 Steaminess scale
- No OW/OM drama
- No MM or FF
- devoted harem
- badass FMC
- Fated mates

What an ending!!!! Another 4.5 stars from me. I think this could have been a 5 stars but a couple things were rushed a bit for me and I wish we had like a novella epilogue because of her last mate, I wanted more with Tia and him so much!

We start in this finale with Tia and Pixie in the dungeons and we have to handle her being tortured and things just not going her way. Her heat is not relenting and something needs to happen or she will perish....good thing she has a mate helping her out and he slowly figures it out haha. Again won't give things away but love how nerdy he is and how he learns from her and her mates. The way they become an adorable unit and how they jibe at each other but are there for one another. Love the brotherly bonds they make and bring Pixie especially into the fold even though he can be super awkward haha. I love our innocent but super powerful warlock too he really makes me laugh and gets some amazing time with the group and Tia. He is such comedic relief but turns out to be this super powerful being after his community ousted him for being "magic less" yeah try again haha. I mean Tia took care of them so all good hahaha.

The steam in this one is very interesting because Tia has to deal with her beast and her heat at the same time. She has to learn to control her urges and to think like she used to and not just go right to her ferality. The details the author added to this story with her world building was incredible and I wish we got more from this world! I wonder if this is connected with any other ones because we could get so much more after Tia used her powers to weed out the haters and traitors and start new with leaders who would improve the world and relations with the other groups.

Loved the side characters again, Damien gets his happy ending from the most unlikelihood of people and I am happy for him but wonder if he had a novella or bonus story with his mate. I liked how the baddies got their karma, especially the biggest villain of them all. So funny how they all dealt with him and wanted to kill him for what he did to Tia and others. Love the ending, again was eating everything up. Love the powers, the battles, everyone working together. The plot was on point, and in line with the amount of steam too. Great balance!

Recommend this series for any PNR RH love and wanting a laugh, even if there are some dark moments. I liked the variety we got, so clear personalities, and the jokes and interactions were perfect.

I’m not judging this book harshly like some might because this book to me was not meant to be taken too seriously. From start to finish this book was unrealistic, corny, and way too cookie cutter. But the writing wasn’t horrible, it was consistent, and it didn’t outright offend me. So I took this series for what it is an easy, light, fantasy story with a clean cut HEA. It’s kind of got the entertainment value of if a hallmark movie met an HBO miniseries, which is fine by me I like homemade mac n’ cheese as much as a box of offbrand Kraft Dinner.

So yes if you are looking for the next series to amaze you with its brilliance this may not be it. You can complain about the convenient conclusion or the happy go lucky harem or any of the corny cliche moments. I’m choosing on focusing on the fact that this was a story I could read that wasn’t tooting it’s own horn or trying to be “edgy” and ending up being offensive. What you see is what you get. I don’t know how else to describe how I’m classifying this book. Maybe vanilla? It’s not crappy, offensive, or irritating. Nor is it awe-inspiring, jaw dropping, or riveting. It kind of middling for me.

Maybe I’ve read too many poorly done KU books at this point, but the fact I finished this series is notable in itself. All I want to say is don’t go into this series with unrealistic expectations, but if you are looking for a book to entertain you or casually keep you company while you have breakfast before work give this a go. It’s short, to the point, and shouldn’t result in noise complaints for flinging your tablet at the wall over and over again.

Side note of confusion and mildly spoilerish: if she was already preggos why did she even go into heat? Or at the very least not have it settle since her pre-party romp obviously fulfilled what the heat needed? This is a plot point (and title point) that was here and gone and actually played little role in the final book that it was the only storyline issue that actually bugged me since it didn’t read like a point A to point B like the rest of the book did.

So this series started off well but I could only give this final book 3 stars as I don’t feel that abusive sex scene with Cage in the end of book 2 was needed at all! He could have just kidnapped her and I would been happy, still evil and he still could of wanted to have her have his child and Pix could just of used his magic like he did in this book to confuse Cage each time he came down to her cell and had him leaving with a headache. 🤷‍♀️

I’m not sure if the writer just recycles her material in each series as this is the second I’ve read, but both this one & “But did you die” series had the female protagonist have a magical entity living n her head that was funny and her best friend. Then both books had her kidnapped only to find her last mate be her guard 🤦‍♀️ Don’t get me wrong I loved Pix the Fae but it was just to close to the last series. Oh not to mention they both died well pregnant 🤰 but the babies were fine.

Anyway her mates were well picked each one belonged to a different magical faction and would represent them. I was really looking forward to hearing more about Leo being the ancient’s son and apparently he’s a Demi god! That got skipped right over 😩

Also Tricksy’s role in this book felt forced since there was zero time for character growth before bam 💥 she’s trying to be a good guy and in love with the vampire kings brother 🤦‍♀️ I would of cut this out and added in Leo’s story all we heard was that his father thought he was dead!

Then both books spice was good the story was okay just could of been better. Not sure how a goddess could’ve been chained and beaten for so long without using her powers regardless of her heat since she was as powerful as the end of the book made her seem. But oh well it was a fun enough story

it was good but…

I feel the ending was wrapped up quickly. Like I felt like I was reading and was kind of in the middle of things and before I knew it I was basically at the end.

I absolutely loved that Tia never lost her strength. As a matter of fact she continued to get stronger. And loved to prove it and show off. She never not once played dumb or took a jackal seat to make her mates feel better. And her mates, even through they wanted to protect her, allows her to lead.

Cage got exactly what he deserved. Oh punk a**. And it was better than o could have imagined it being. He died 3.5 times and now has to spend his afterlife as a worm. Remembering every moment of it. 😂😂 No sympathy for you.

I loved how much Leo had come into his own in this one. He was far more confident and his powers were something else. Hence Cage becoming a worm for all his afterlife. We also learn that he is in fact a demi-god which explains the growth of his power.

I didn’t really care for Trixie. Nor did I understand her sudden change of heart. So I wasn’t fan her being matched up with Damien. Or with how it was explained at the end why Tia felt she could trust her.

I definitely like Pixie. Although I would like to know his actual name. Even though he was so blunt and non-emotional, he still showed so much emotion and love towards Tia. He was a perfect balance to the crazy of the other mates.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and the series. It was a great read. There were even some great intimate scenes thrown in at the right times.

Ok series wrap up but doesn't quite live up to the earlier books

This series as a whole is pretty freaking amazing. It's got enough humor to make you discover your cackle, an FMC that is truly life goals (smart and strong but still sweet and loving), and MMCs that will melt you. Add in Beasty and Bestie (Damien) and you've got a good time. This book alone doesn't quite live up to books one and two - it's good but the ending was almost too simple compared to the earlier books. Ignoring the early books though (you can't skip them, just roll with my brain) unexpected heat is a high quality book with the great characters, interesting storyline and a really good pacing. It does it's job of wrapping up Tia's story and with the exception of maybe 3 minor typos is a very clean bit of writing.

Bonus points - not a single page was skipped while reading this, not a single sentence felt like it was gratuitous chilis to horn into the genre, every single page was fun and interesting and fit well into the story and kept my attention. That cannot be said about some books in the RH realm. With that in mind, this is a very open door book. You cannot skip the details without missing out on threads.

Unexpected Heat (Unexpected Series Book 3)

Unexpected Heat (Unexpected Series Book 3) ~~ This book lives up to its title. Unexpected Heat is where emotions explode, tensions boil over, and nothing stays calm for long. The supernatural elements are stronger, the threats are clearer, and the relationships are pushed to their breaking points.

What stood out to me most was the growth of the FMC. She’s no longer just reacting ~ she’s making choices, owning her power, and standing her ground. The romantic dynamics are hotter, messier, and more emotionally charged, which made this book impossible to put down.

I bounced between Kindle and Audible again, and the audio version really delivers during the high-intensity scenes. You can feel the urgency, frustration, desire, and fear all tangled together, which made the experience even more immersive.

This book doesn’t tie everything up with a pretty bow. Instead, it leaves you craving answers, bracing for what’s coming, and fully invested in how this story will continue.

I would definitely recommend this book and series and can’t wait to start on the next book. If you want to know what happens next, you’ll just have to read this series yourself ~ you won’t regret it.

Loved this series

It's getting harder to find my mind of stories. After 30 to 40 years of one heroine and one hero the world turned quickly when I read my first reverse harem book. And I rarely looked back. I just found this series a few days ago and it was completed. My favorite kind of story. As always my heart pulled for the young heroine who lost her parents and then flung out into a world of the supernatural she had no idea she was one. This was not a slow anything. Our girl was trying to learn on the fly and getting smacked with so much. But she was a fighter and armed with her "snarky Beast side" she took it all on. That's not to say that there were no times not to cry cause there were. But there was so much more to laugh, to love and to learn.
I truly recommend you read this for yourselves. And pass it on to others. I also heard that there maybe some bonus chapters coming out and insiders are getting a vote. I suggest doing more on How's story and some of Damien's as they overlap. But that's cause I'm greedy and actually want more.

Glad it's over

This series was pretty bad. It's going on my never again list. I'm just glad I read it through KU instead of buying it outright as I tend to do with popular rh series.

I actually think it could be pretty good with some serious edits. But as it stands now, it's almost unbearable. I skimmed quite a bit.

After book 2 I left a review stating that the author needed to add a trigger warning for SA. I think this book needs one too for unrealistic and poorly done PTSD from the SA. I don't actually have any triggers, but I know many readers do and I find it disrespectful of the author to not give them a warning so they can made an informed decision as to whether or not to read the books.

I had read this author's other series But Did You Die? before this. I'm glad I did because if I'd read this series first, I would have dropped this author on my black list. I don't recommend this series to anyone.

I REALLY didn't want this series to come to an end. But I really think that there is definitely some room for spin offs and maybe even a continuation down the road🙏🤞 one can hope 🤔 😅. Sedona Ashe had done a fantastic job on this series. Tia and her mates were great characters that jumped off the page and grabbed you into the story. The world building was wonderful and I loved how she had the link conversations with all of them. I didn't ever get confused with who was talking..and the humor and sarcasm that was running through the lines of the characters was just MAGIC! I love it when I can laugh and it is nice and easy and not something that the author tries hard to pull off... Sedona does it with ease. Such a steamy, fun ,action packed shifter, magical romance! I HIGHLY recommend this book to all romance readers!! CHECK IT OUT!! 😍🥰

Just finished reading the Dragon Goddess Series by Sedona Ashe and have to say it was an interesting read.

For those looking for a strong FMC with some rejection, shifters of all types, and magic involved this is definitely a series for you. It will make you laugh and cry with a whole lot of squirming in your seat along the way. This is an RH and does have a few triggers for those that need to know.

There are 3 books and it is a completed series, however, it left me wishing for a little more. An epilogue would have been wonderful with a look into the future. It also left it wide open if she decides to do a spin-off. I know there is a bonus chapter if you sign up for her newsletter but I signed up last night and still haven't received an email.
Other than needing a tad more for my mind to have closure I'd give this series two thumbs up.

Why choose/ shifter/ paranormal/ fated mates/ MMMFMMM/ pregnancy/ found family/ HEA

Trigger warning: murder/ assault/ violence/ kidnapping/ trauma/ betrayal

Everything wrapped up fairly nicely. While I appreciated all of the characters, I do wish this book had more of Damien. I really liked his and Tia’s banter and I wanted more of it in this book.

It also felt like, much in the same way that Cage’s personality changed, Trixie’s did as well. She was horrible to Tia in the first book and now she’s done a complete 180 AND on top of all of that, she’s now the alpha of Cage’s old pack/ Damien’s mate?? It felt like she was brought back for the sake of Damien having a mate and there was really no explanation for her character change.

I only finished this series because I didn't have anything else loaded on my kindle. To be honest, the writing is mostly what killed the storyline for me, but it may be someone else's taste (admittedly, my absolute favorite series of all time was one of the first books I read and I hate it now because of the writing style). If you're interested in this series, feel free to look at the reviews I did on books 1 and 2 to get a better insight on the story. In the end though, I felt like the story was a little unresolved.

I was happy to see the return of a few characters in this book in particular and got a little excited that things might pep up, but it sort of just stayed the same for me excitement-wise. Not for me, but definitely for someone else because it is a cute story.

No? I tried to get over the fact that it was insta everything, i think my mind created scenarios to form a connection with the characters but I think this series tops all of the insta love/lust books that I've read or tried to read. It says something that I did finish the series, although, I did skim more than half of the books. There was no actual plot, I believe each book had a different villain. The mates just keep popping out of nowhere - she dies, everyone was sad, *poof*, another mate to bring her back alive. No backstory or anything. I honestly think that this book has soo much potential but now I think this is smut. Even that, I couldn't enjoy the spicy scenes because I didn't connect with the characters. The best part for me here was their revenge on Cage.

Disappointing conclusion

So books 1 and 2 I enjoyed, not because the books are amazing or fantastic quality, but because they were silly, over the top and humorous. These factors helped to overlook typos etc.

I didn't enjoy this book as much. I didn't think it was as fun as the previous 2 books. The story didn't feel particularly developed and the ending seemed rushed and too easy. Also, the sex scene in the middle of the book was so long and drawn out and not as fun as I think the author intended. Honestly while I do like some heat, such scenes really shouldn't be more important than storyline.

I'm giving the book 3 stars

Correct

This was certainly the best book of the serie: more suspense, interesting relationship building between Tia and Pixie, and HEA.
Unfortunately, this books suffered from the same problems as the other two: two much about Tia POV and not enough about her mates, storyline became more complicated with gods/goddesses/decorporalization, etc. The return of Beasty was ununderstandable and made no sense🙄
Finally, the end and the way Tia changed the world or retablished balance is irrealistic and far too easy to buy it.
In conclusion, this serie is good but not very original. It's entertaining but if you're used to read top A series, it won't reach your expectations.

Praise for Dragon Goddess Tia!!

My love for this series will always stay with me. Though I am sad to see it end, what an ending that was!!
I got my wish about Cage!! Boy did he get everything he deserved and more. The curse that Leo put on him was everything!
Tia. My goddess Tia. She has grown so mush in 3 books. She went from a 19 year old human that just suffered the loss of her parents, to The Dragon Goddess of the Sea. She’s been through heartbreak and torture. Through laughed and love. And at the end of the road, she brought peace back to the world.
I’m really going to miss Tia, but she needed her happily ever after ♥️
