Snowed in with You

WHEN THINGS SNOWBALL, CAN FROSTY FEELINGS THAW?

Lucy hasn't left the country in years. In fact, she's barely left Bristol's city limits. So, when the opportunity presents itself to join a work trip to the Swiss Alps, she's wary, especially when she learns that it will coincide with that weekend - the one that, eleven years ago, tore her world in two.

But how can she turn down an all-expense-paid trip to the snow-capped Alps? Lucy knows what Leo would say if he were still with her, and besides, she'll have her work husband, Jonno, there for emotional support.

What - or who - she didn't bank on, however, was moody ( rude) Nate stepping in at the last minute. And what's worse, they're the only two in the group who don't ski, so they're stuck with each other . . . up the side of a mountain in the middle of a snowstorm.

With the weather closing in, an avalanche leaves them snowbound in an alpine bar with an eclectic cast of fellow refugees. But with roaring log fires and steaming mugs of glühwein (and maybe a shot or two of Jägermeister), it's a chance for Lucy and Nate to discover there might be more to one another than meets the eye.

Where will their mountainside adventure leave them when the snow finally melts?

---

Snowed in With You is the moving, joyful and life-affirming new novel from award-winning author Heidi Stephens about love, life, hope, family and the importance of taking chances. Perfect for fans of Jill Mansell, Mhairi McFarlane, Catherine Walsh and Beth O'Leary.

A romcom set in the UK about a woman named Lucy who goes on a ski retreat, then gets snowed in. She has several friends with benefits but meets someone she likes even better during the avalanche. There was no power and they sang to each other and it was goofy.

This one was not my favorite. I thought it was boring and found myself skimming. Cute premise, but I think it was hokey and it was a love triangle/love hexagon. Not my favorite trope.

Thanks to @netgalley and @headlinebooks for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. Book to be published October 24, 2024.

This was a fun, romantic read. I thought it was a Christmas story but it’s actually mostly set in January! The romance was cute and I really enjoyed the dynamic of the characters who were stuck together. I feel like Lucy was a very realistic and relatable main character. As much as I enjoyed this book I do feel like it could have resolved a lot sooner. I’d recommend this as a light, fluffy read.

A really fun read! Yes it was super cheesy in parts, but FUN cheesy, so suspend your disbelief and ignore the unrealistic fact that literally every single man who breathes is desperately in love with Lucy, the MFC!

Lucy is a talented copywriter and despite her seemingly cold approach to any kind of emotional connection with a romantic partner, she has plenty of offers. When she becomes trapped in a mountain cafe with her attractive but standoffish colleague, Nate, Lucy is forced to face the past and what caused her to close herself off emotionally. Similarly, Nate reveals his true self and a life changing moment on Instagram catapults him into the public domain, drawing him away from Lucy and their new bond.

The characters in the Gunther Cafe were brilliant! Hilarious, heart warming and an eclectic mix that just worked!

Fun, fun, fun!

Decent plot, fully developed characters, some IRL LOLz.... if this was a movie I'd watch it.

There are a few authors that I know I will love their new book before it’s even published. @heidistephens is one of those. Her sense of humour has me smirking my way through her books. I feel like she stepped it up a gear with this one.

Snowy vibes, an avalanche, a bunch of wonderful tropes for all the good feels. What more could you want?

Snowed In with You by Heidi Stephens is a delightful mix of romance, humor, and snowy adventure. Lucy, a copywriter who's barely left her hometown in years, reluctantly agrees to join a work trip to the Swiss Alps. She’s dreading it, especially because the trip coincides with a weekend that still haunts her—one that changed everything. But who can say no to an all-expenses-paid getaway? What she didn’t expect was being snowed in with Nate, a moody colleague who’s as infuriating as he is attractive. And of course, neither of them skis, so they’re stuck together during a snowstorm. Cue the forced proximity!

The chemistry between Lucy and Nate is slow-burn goodness, with plenty of banter and moments of tension. What starts as mutual annoyance turns into something deeper as they’re trapped in a cozy alpine bar with an eclectic group of fellow snowed-in strangers. The chemistry builds up over steaming mugs of glühwein and maybe a shot (or two) of Jägermeister. Watching them go from awkward coworkers to something more is all kinds of charming and funny—this book has the perfect amount of heart, humor, and warmth to make it an absolute joy to read.

I’m giving this book 4 out of 5 stars. It’s funny, romantic, and has just the right mix of silly, heartfelt moments. While it may be a bit predictable at times, sometimes you just want a book that lets you escape into a snowy setting with characters you can’t help but root for. A great pick for anyone looking for a cozy, wintery romance with a side of laughs and emotional depth!

Snowed in With You by Heidi Stephens is a delightful romance with just the right mix of humour, warmth, and emotional depth to keep you turning the pages. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Swiss Alps, the story follows Lucy as she navigates a work trip that turns into an unexpected adventure when she finds herself snowed in with Nate - a man she initially finds infuriating but who slowly reveals hidden depths.

The dynamic between Lucy and Nate is engaging, and their slow-burn connection feels authentic, with plenty of witty banter and tender moments. The eclectic cast of characters stranded with them in the alpine bar adds charm and humour, creating a festive, cozy atmosphere that feels like the literary equivalent of a warm mug of hot chocolate.

Heidi Stephens excels at balancing laugh-out-loud moments with poignant reflections on love, loss, and moving forward. Lucy’s journey of self-discovery is relatable and satisfying, and the setting is vividly described, immersing readers in the snowy wonderland.

If you’re looking for a feel-good read that will leave you smiling long after the last page, Snowed in With You is a wonderful choice perfect for curling up in front of the fire this winter.

Highly recommended for fans of enemies-to-lovers romances and anyone who loves a snow-filled escape!

I absolutely LOVED Snowed In with You!
Lucy is a fascinating character. I liked her immediately. She’s a professional, single (but not short of male attention), grieving following a devastating loss eleven years ago, has a difficult relationship with her mother…
When the chance of an all-expenses paid skiing trip with work becomes available, she really wants to go despite it being the weekend she usually spends with her parents. She feels guilty but she needs this. Little does she know…
I laughed out loud so many times throughout this story. Reading it in public was interesting!
I loved Lucy’s relationship with Jonno.
I loved the initial awkwardness between Lucy and Nate and how forced proximity leads to that awkwardness slowly dissipating.
I loved the characters they are forced to spend time with, in an Alpine bar, after an avalanche leaves them all snowed in together. Honestly, some of the funniest scenes.
I loved how Lucy eventually confronts her mother.
And I love how Lucy finally comes to her senses.
Nate is just the cutest!
Such a beautiful ending to a brilliantly written story. Heart-warming and SO funny! I can’t recommend it highly enough.

So at the beginning the book didn't work for me so much. I mean, it was brilliantly funny and I absolutely adored Lucy and the ever growing motley crew of characters, but the sudden change from "French Exit" to I-think-I'm-Falling-In-Love and He's-Not-What-I-Was-Thinking-He-Is... nah, I didn't buy it. The interactions between Lucy and Nate were absolutely brilliant, but I didn't feel any chemistry between them, it was more Lucy-Wants-Lucy-Gets.
And to be honest I didn't buy it for the whole book.
But nevertheless, it was a brilliantly written and entertaining read with a great cast of characters, fast - paced and modern and I didn't want to put it down, so there. The dynamics between the characters, and not only when they were stuck together, which was truly funny and I would love more of being snowed in, was simply brilliant and felt genuine.

What I really adored in this story is how well the author has balanced humour and witty moments with some tender and poignant ones. It is a story of self - discovery and being brave and bold to fight for your happiness. The Swiss Alp setting is very vividly described. So if you're looking for a witty, light - hearted story with some great friendship and brilliant one - liners in it, you might have found your book.

I didn’t love how the book was written in third person, especially since it felt like it was still from the main character’s POV, but it kept repeating her name unnecessarily. It was distracting and made the flow of the story feel a bit awkward. The love triangle was predictable, and it seemed like every man around the protagonist was tripping over themselves for her, which felt overdone and unnecessary. Nate seemed to be set up as the obvious love interest, but the storyline around her FWB relationships and the other men’s interest in her felt forced.

The real issue was the inconsistency in the romance scenes. I usually don’t mind fade-to-black/closed door romance, but it didn’t match the rest of the book’s tone. The characters talked quite explicitly about sex, only for the scenes to fade to black, which felt like the author didn’t fully commit. Either lean into the explicitness or go fully closed-door, but this in-between approach didn’t work for me. Honestly, I should have DNF’d at 60%.

3.5 / 4 *Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.*

The concept of being stuck inside during an avalanche on a mountain on a work trip was really interesting and how these characters found comfort within a group of strangers. Lucy and Nate are opposites and somehow scratch below the surface of their facade of Lucy as an extrovert and Nate as quiet and almost rude. Heidi Stephens sensitively explores grief and mental health and how this impacts both Nate with his anxiety and Lucy and grief of losing her brother. I did feel at some points Nate was treated like a child because of his anxiety despite being in his 30s. Lucy was also at points selfish and self absorbed and used her grief as an excuse for avoiding serious relationships.

I loved the situation and diverse characters stuck in the avalanche, but the story took an unexpected turn. I thought the book would continue to be set within the mountains instead of following Nate becoming a musician, which slowed the pace slightly. I would have preferred the mountain theme instead of the time jump as this felt a little disjointed from the original premise.

Overall, I enjoyed reading the book and was hooked from the start but had a few problems with Lucy and Nate's characters. I really enjoyed the well rounded and funny side characters like Jonno and Sasha and the twists throughout the story. A hooking winter read with fun characters.

I think I would quite like to be Lucy. She has initially a wonderful philosophy towards her love life and has made me consider trying something similar. And then she ends up in the Swiss Alps, on a work trip, snowed in with a colleague who clearly has hidden depths!

There is a journey of self growth for Lucy and I loved the motley crew she was snowed in with, up a mountain. There is a huge cast of characters, but it was Nate that I really kept wanting to know more about.

His journey in this book is even more impressive than Lucy's and the more I got to know him, the more I was falling for him myself.

I was never completely sure who if anyone that Lucy might end up with, and although I know who I was rooting for, there were other good options!

I was totally gripped by this book, I loved every second of it and it is fast cementing Heidi Stephens as an author I need to keep reading everything by.

Thank you to Headline Accent and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Office romance
Forced proximity
Slow burn

Lucy and Nate find themselves stuck up a mountain when multiple avalanches start to fall and they're left stranded for 2 nights before they can be rescued. Thankfully they're in a restaurant with a couple of other people so they're not stuck in the wilderness but they still have to make do with the space they have until someone comes to rescue them.

Lucy has never really paid much attention to Nate in the office, but it's pretty clear from the beginning that Nate has always had a crush on Lucy so when the drinks start flowing, it doesn't take long for the two of them to end up spending the night together while they're trapped.

I liked Lucy as a character, I thought she was very mature and well-rounded even if she was a bit stunted when it came to relationships. At least she realised she needed to work on herself and made that happen before she went after Nate.

Not closed door exactly, but definitely not explicit.

Thanks to NetGalley and Headline for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

Firstly, thank you so much to Headline, Netgalley & Heidi for the opportunity to read Snowed In With You in exchange for honest feedback.

As a wee trigger warning, there are a couple of mentions of loss / mental health / dr*g use in the story.

❄️ Now, on to the review.... 👀💖

Oh my days! I absolutely LOVED this book from the first page all the way through to the end! I read it over 2 days & struggled to put it down for anything other than eating & sleeping! 👀😂

It was a brilliantly paced story with lovable characters (especially Lucy, Jonno & Nate) and awesome humour, but there were also notes of vulnerability throughout it which endeared me to the characters even more & made them relatable 💖

Often with this genre, the story is predictable from start to finish, but there were a couple of wee twists that I didn't expect, which made it even more enjoyable! 🩷

I thoroughly enjoyed it & would highly recommend it to everyone as a cosy, funny, heartwarming read!

💗NEW GOOD READS ACCOUNT💗

Firstly, I want to say a massive thank you to NetGalley and Heidi for allowing me to read this ARC!!

Wow, wow, wow. This is the first book I read by Heidi and I absolutely loved it.

This ruined my sleep schedule as i'm always a girl that can never put a book down. But this book was so worth it!!

It was amazingly written and paced and I adored the characters! (Lucy, Nate and Jonno). The twists had my jaw on the floor and there was never a dull moment in this book!♥️

Apart from the moments of fragility that made the book that little bit more realistic.🥹

The characters were formed together so well. No words.

Although this is written in third person and i normally hate it, this is my only exception! You completely forget about it and just get lost in their story🫶🏼🫶🏼

I loved this read so much, and I recommend it to anyone who is searching for a funny, heartwarming read to get lost in!!

What a sweet and tasty five-star read. There are so many amazing characters that you meet along the way in this story, include a couple that will surprise you with twists and turns that will drop your jaw. Lucy was a complex one, you could understand where she was coming from, and she is a very independent lady, who knows her own mind, and that was a lovely thing to see, and I was so happy to see her and her mum interact, it added something extra to the story. Jonno and the Guntherhutte crew are all so well written, that you can’t help adoring them. Honestly, It also surprised me how much like Nate I am, I agree with the flying and the snow, so I adored him, and honestly I loved the way his story went, that surprised me, as I saw the same as everyone else at first, and I’m glad my view changed.

This is the second book I have read by Heidi, it was fantastic, a definite 5 star read and I would recommend everyone reads a copy of this book.
Lucy works in advertising and is not living her life fully after the sudden death of her twin brother Leo 11 years ago.
A work trip to Switzerland changes everything when she is snowed in and stranded in a ski hut with some exuberant characters. This part of the book had me laughing out loud while also shedding some tears.
What follows is a rollercoaster ride for Lucy with lots of unexpected twists and turns along the way.
I didn’t want this book to end, it had great characters, a brilliant setting and the perfect amount of romance.

Snowed In With You by Heidi Stephens is a UK romcom with an FMC named Lucy who gets snowed in at a ski retreat and meets a potential love interest during the resulting avalanche and power outage. This was a fun enough read that I found myself frequently skimming, but there were a lot of things that weren't to my taste. Firstly, I don't love complicated love "webs" (she has several friends with benefits, making this more complicated than just a love triangle), the plot dragged in some parts, and overall it was quite cheesy. I know a lot of people who would absolutely eat this up and love it, I just couldn't get past some of the tropes and the cheesiness of it.

I loved Snowed in with You, and picked it up just at the time I was craving an cosy, sweet and light read.

It definitely met the brief, but I was also pleasantly surprised by the warmth, humour and reflectivity of the main characters. Lucy was marvellously frank, unapologetic and authentic, but with a growing sense of self awareness and search for purpose. Nate was almost her inverse, and I loved his kindness and humour. The slow burn of their relationship, and their personal development was so satisfying.

I couldn’t put it down - the relationships, cast of characters, remote locations and somewhat out there scenarios had me hooked! I’d highly recommend this for anyone looking for a bookish escape.

Thank you Headline for a copy of this book. Opinions expressed are my own.

I love the forced proximity trope, so when I heard about this book, I jumped at the chance to review it (I also have it preordered)
Lucy is a copywriter who gets the chance to go to Zermatt through work and jumps at the chance. Who wouldn't?! Whilst there, she gets snowed in with Nate, a colleague who tends to keep to himself.
This one isn't just for winter, despite the book title as only a small part of it is actually set somewhere snowy. I love how the author delved into anxiety for one of the characters, and it was quite poignant in places with grief playing a part, too.
I loved Lucy and Nate, but the friendship between Lucy and Jonno was just brilliant to read. What a top guy he is?! Yes, it is a romance, but the friendship between those two really just jumped off the page.

This is the perfect, your first impressions aren't always what they seem, book. The main character misjudged so many things in this book that she complicated her life way more than it could have been. This is a good example of communication is key. If only she would have spoke her mind or asked instead of assumed she would have found her happiness way sooner (would have lead to a pretty boring book though) I loved this book, I only gave 4 stars because the main character was a little annoying going over all her reasons over and over in her head and being stubborn. Thank you to the author and publisher for the ARC of this book.

This is my second Heidi Stephen books and I can assure you it will not be my last and I now need to devour her backlog! This was such a cute and addictive read that I ended up reading in one sitting! I just could not put it down. I loved the premise of this one and I loved the setting of the Alps! I'm a big lover of snow so having a book predominantly set in a snowy landscape just sounds perfect to me, minus the whole getting stuck in a snowstorm.

I really liked Lucy who is such a relatable and realistic character. She's gone through so much in her life and I liked that we got to see a vulnerable side to her past the confident, independent and comfortable life she leads. I loved watching her character grow and seeing her journey of self-growth. Nate is an absolutely adorable and swoon-worthy character who I couldn't help but fall in love with. I loved seeing the anxiety representation in this book and I really liked getting to know his character as the book went on.

This book comes with an amazing cast of side characters. With their own unique voices and personalities I never felt overwhelmed and I really loved this little crew and what they brought to the story. Jonno is the best character ever though, I mean the support and love he has for Lucy was so nice to see!

Honestly this was a fun, cozy and light-hearted romance that i absolutely recommend picking up! It's the perfect book to read which curled up under a blanket with a hot drink!

I have read other books by Heidi Stephens, so I was looking forward to reading Snowed In with You.
Lucy has never left the country so when an all expense paid trip to the Swiss Alps to go on a work trip she can’t turn it down.
The entire story just took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions. If you are looking for a book that will stay on your mind long after reading, I highly recommend you get this and settle in for a great read!

This was a fun read. The romance was good and I liked all the characters. Lucy is a talented copywriter who was not looking for an emotional connection. When she becomes trapped in a mountain cafe with her colleague, she is forced to face her past on why she doesn't want another emotional relationship.
This was a journey of self growth for Lucy. I never knew for sure who Lucy would end of with and I didn't want this book to end. Again, it had great characters, a great setting and romance. I would recommend to my friends.

Thank you to Netgalley and Headline Accent for the advanced copy.

This book took me by surprise - I was all in from page 1. The set up was so cute and the dynamic between the two main characters was exquisite. I had the butterflies and was rooting for them super hard. Where it lost me a bit was keeping them apart for essentially the last 30% of the book. They had so little time together at the end it left me wanting more. I get why it was done, it was about the growth of the female MC but it did mean I didn't finish the book on the high, swoony note I started it on and that was a bit disappointing.

This is such a fun and cozy read for the winter! While there are themes of anxiety, loss and grief, there are also themes of love, family and taking chances.

Heidi Stephens does a beautiful job balancing the two to create a story that is both impactful and tender. I fell in love and connected with both Lucy and Nate immediately and couldn’t stop rooting for them as individuals and as a couple throughout the entire story.

To start with I was really unsure if I was going to like this book at all as I found it a bit slow to get into but the more I read the more I enjoyed it. Its gives festive vibes but more for the ski resort setting. It wouldn't be a favourite book of mine but I know friends who would absolutely eat this up.

A little frustrating at times but overall a very cute read. The pacing could have been slightly better. The time jumps didn’t really work well for me but otherwise the story would have been too long. The friendships were nice and felt natural, a rarity these days. Loved the idea of the snowed in strangers.
