i guess this was okay. it started with parker (41) bidding for a date with vanessa (32) during a fund raising event for cancer patients. nessa's friend who was supposed to be there was sick so she stepped in instead. then parker got attracted to her immediately and won the bidding.
i think most of the book was spent taking care of one another because they both contracted a flu. 😅 first was nessa, she got the flu from her friend then parker took care of her. then after she got better, parker got the same flu and she did the same in return.
there wasn't anything interesting in their story imo. nessa was an okay character, came from a well-off family with loving parents. she doesn't want to do anything with her parents money. she was down to earth and a full time nurse.
as for parker, he was the boy who came from the wrong side of tracks. worked his way up alongside his friends and they all became successful billionaires. he was a recluse person for the last 10 years cuz someone he trusted betrayed him, and his jaded outlook in life because of his not so great childhood becomes even more jaded.
but when he saw her on that stage, he felt something. then he decides to pursue nessa and see where this attraction will lead them.
overall, this was okay. it was short less than 200+ pages. there wasn't any sizzling sexual tension, tbh, i didn't feel any connection to the mcs and their chemistry felt meh. but it can be a me case, idk.
sadly this didn't work for me but other readers might disagree, to each their own as always.

This was so bad! I picked up this book on the strength of the reviews…mistake. We must have read two different books. I almost got the audio but decided to read it free first on KU. The premise sounded promising, rich billionaire recluse wins a bid on a nurse at a charity auction. They start an affair before the first date. This also sounded good until I actually read the story, which was frankly not much of a story outside of the numerous typos and grammatical errors throughout the book. I will allow up to 10 small mistakes, before I either DNF or lower the rating…but not scores of grammatical errors, typos, missed prepositions and the like…whew!
1-star for the premise. Negative 4-star for the poor writing and editing.

This is the 1st book in the new Billionaire Playboys series featuring Parker and Nessa's heartwarming story. Parker gets dragged to a charity auction by his best friend and business partner Ezra who may have been there to bid on the woman who Nessa fills in for. Nessa took Millie's place in the charity auction after she fell ill because of what the charity means to her family personally. Parker takes one look at Nessa up on that stage and he knows that he can't let anyone outbid him Nessa also took notice of the handsome man in the custom suit and she felt an instant attraction to him. Parker wins and he waits for Nessa after the event ends and he escorts her home and he tells her that he'll be in touch soon about their date he then turns and leaves without giving Nessa a goodnight kiss though it was clear that she wanted one. Parker knows that he messed up and he plans to make it up to her when they go out on their date only when he calls to cement their plans Nessa is now sick. Thanks to being around her best friend Millie who she had to fill in for at the auction Nessa tells Parker that she's just going to go to bed. Parker insists on going over to her place to take care of her even though she tries to warn him that he can get sick and he assures her that he never gets sick. He tells her that he'll see her in a little while with some of the supplies that he's going to need to take care of her Parker does everything for Nessa while he's there. When Nessa calls to thank him for taking care of her and to see about planning their date she finds out that he's now sick so she returns the favor by going over to his place to take care of him. Meanwhile they're both trying to ignore the sizzling chemistry between them. I don't want to say anymore and ruin it for anyone else with spoilers. You really need to read this charming story to see what happens. I would definitely recommend reading this book and I'm looking forward to Ezra and Millie's story.

Vanessa (Nessa) and her mom are putting on their big fundraiser that goes to benefit the children at the hospital, the one Nessa works for. They do it in honor of her sister whom they lost to leukemia. It was her idea to have the bachelorette auction and tonight was the first time it would happen. She wasn’t supposed to be a part of the bidding but stepped in for her bestie, really she’s more like a sister, Minnie. She is home ill, if she hadn’t sounded so horrible she would have dragged her down to do the job.
As luck would have it, Minnie’s secret man, Ezra brought or should I say dragged his friend, brother, & business partner, Parker down to bid on behalf of the business. But, when, Ness took to the stage the whole room around the two of them dropped away. Then, all he could see was her. He didn't even realize the bidding had started. Parker almost missed the opportunity to bid for her, and with moments to spare he outbid the highest bidder enough to take her from him. He makes the mistake of asking, Esra about her, even though he faints a lack of interest.
That's when he knew he had been played by, Ezra. He had orchestrated this whole encounter, not the evening of course. Because their other two partners, had other matters that needed to be taken care of, and they knew him being out was no longer comfortable, for him. This woman though surprised him with her presence, beauty, and the grace in which she carries herself. He had closed himself off to anyone other than a small core of people, otherwise, work was his companion.
When he offers to take her home and they exchange info they don’t expect illness to test them right off the bat. Yup, that is the true test of any couple, as to how a couple will cope. When anyone is sick we are never at our best being sick brings out the baby in us. And this is when you find out if you sink or swim. Guess what this sexy, dirty-talking, alpha man did? He came to the rescue, and when it was over she did the same for him. Then, it was on, like donkey kong. This was a fun read. It was fast and spicy.

This is start of the Billionaire Playboys fate steps in right from the beginning Nessa is helping her friend at a charity auction by standing in as an action lineup not really her cup of tea but yet here she is on a stage in front of potential bidders and nervous as all get out for a date telling herself it is for charity. Parker sexy aa all get out recluse billionaire dragged to a charity auction by his best friend grumpy the whole time at having to be there when he could be home alone enjoying a stiff drink but here he is at an auction he doesn’t want to attend but wait hold everything because the moment the little beauty steps on the stage everything stops and one thing because clear he will be winning the bid on her. Nessa is sweet, extremely independent, feisty and unwilling to be controlled by some rich guy who thinks she is something more just because he won the winning bid. Parker keeps telling himself he doesn’t need the headache of a feisty cutie but he can’t stay away from her even if he wanted too so when they get sick together having to take care of each other learning about each other along the way finding out he is glad she doesn’t cower so easily she sees more to him than most but is it enough for them to really give each other a real chance at something more, will his grumpiness push her away, and can they find happiness?.

This was a billionaire romance.
This was a sweet and steamy story with great characters and a unique story. Must read!
Nessa Taylor works as a nurse/administrator for Cures for Children. She is the daughter of newly wealthy parents. Her father is a self made billionaire and her mother runs the Cures for Children charity in remembrance of their other daughter who passed away from leukemia as a child. Nessa will be taking over the charity when her mother retires.
Parker Hudson is a workaholic reclusive playboy billionaire. He and his college roommates founded their company Four Brothers Inc. He and his best friend and business partner Ezra were raised in abusive homes. After his father was put in jail his mother adopted Ezra from foster care. He was treated badly by a woman he dated years ago and became a recluse because of it.
They meet at a gala for her family's charity when a date with her is auctioned off and he wins the date. She was only there because her best friend Millie was terribly ill and had to bow out. They have instant chemistry but he is a gentleman when he brings her home. Nessa becomes ill with the flu and Parker basically moved in to care for her. When he becomes ill she does the same for him. He insists on taking her for their official first date and they then become inseparable. His company buys her father's company, she steps in for her mother and they get their HEA.

The story was really good but it was missing the drama; things for the characters to overcome.
It was like there was no climax - or the climax was them finally screwing, but that happened early on.
There was no separating or big build up to a climax where issues get resolved.
The biggest thing that happened was she took care of him to repay him for taking care of her and while she was there she THOUGHT another girl showed up and she hid and almost cried - only to find out it was his mom. he was completely understanding and it was resolved all in one page. So not really a big build up to anything or any problems for the characters to resolve
The buildup to them having sex was a little let down because their first time - the scene explained him taking her to the bed and eating her out - then new chapter starts and its next morning. We do eventually get detailed sex scene.. though.

Parker goes to a charity auction with his best friend. Ezra his friend was interested in Millie. I don’t think they know each other but he would like to know her better. Nessa took Millie's place in the charity auction after Millie fell ill. Nessa was auctioning a date. Parker takes one look at Nessa up on that stage and he knows that he wants to win. Parker wins and goes backstage to pay and meet Nessa. As a coincidence they meet outside after the event ends and they share a ride and he tells her that he'll be in touch soon about their date. Nessa was interested in Parker and assumed he would give her a kiss goodnight. Later when he calls to make plans Nessa is now sick. Parker goes over to her place to take care of her even though she tries to warn him that he can get sick and he assures her that he never gets sick and of course he gets sick. This was a very cute story. I like the characters, Nessa was very relatable and although Parker was a billionaire he wasn’t impossibly arrogant. Just a nice story.

Vanessa (Nessa) and Parker, one a nurse and the other a self-made billionaire. He goes to a charity auction, spends 100K and comes out without a doubt what he thinks is the most beautiful woman in the world. She drives him crazy before they even have a date and yet his domineering character is well managed by her. He gets what she wants, yet he does too. It’s a match made in heaven and with little drama other than his insatiable need for her. It’s always good to read a book where the guy tries to be a gentleman, but she doesn’t always want that. He gladly sacrifices his honor to give the lady what she wants and needs. Such a great guy... ok he wins too.
This was a quick read and a very nice book with a set up for the future books and the guy’s Parker has his business with. They understand him and they get he is so head-over- heels (her heels especially) in love with her that he will do anything to make her smile. It’s like life should be. I highly recommend the book, again a quick read with all the feels in it. On to the next one in the series!

I very much enjoyed this story. The h is up for auction as a date to raise money for her childhood cancer charity. The H sees her and is smitten & must win the bid. I love how they get to know and care for each other so much before their actual charity date.
The H is a big teddy bear who’s been burned before. The h may have a trust fund, but lives like everyone else, has a job as a nurse and neither buys into the whole “society” thing making them both very likable human persons. I love how sassy the h is and how bossy and doting the H is.
The only thing I was disappointed in in this book? The end was SUPER rushed. Like their whole love story was world & character-building with so much story… then the end fizzled because it skipped huge swaths of super critical things I really would have loved to read about, being so invested in the characters and all. I ended up appreciating their HEA… but I felt an overwhelming sense of “huh…” Such a bummer! But overall, I loved the book and would totally read the next one.

Yes, yes and more yes. I loved Nessa and Parker so much! From her sass to his alpha tendencies. I am here for it all.

One look at the girl up on stage and Parker knew he wasn't going to let anyone out bid him. He was immediately taken with Nessa and now just needs to prove to her that this is more than just a date for charity.
I loved that Nessa was confident in her skin and who she was, but also let Parker in and allowed him to see her at her worst. I loved that Parker went to take care of her when she was sick without even batting an eye. Their story was low on the drama scale but high on the heat scale. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. Now I'm just over here waiting for Millie & Ezra's story!

Book 1 of the new Billionaire Playboys series. Parker is conned into going to a charity event with his friend and business partner Ezra. He takes one look at Vanessa/ Nessa and feels something he’s never felt before. Parker was hurt in a previous relationship and has now become somewhat of a recluse, never wanting to be in the public eye. Nessa is at the charity function as it’s a charity run by her mother. Parker wins the date with her but gives her mixed signals and Nessa is left confused. This was a heartwarming story with a independent woman with a warm and caring heart and the guy who learns to trust again. Their connection is instantaneous and the chemistry between them sizzles off the page. Can’t wait to see who the rest of the Four Brothers fall for. Parker has been burned by a woman before but something about Nessa drew him in. As these two being to spend time together their feelings sky rocked. Parker went from not wanting a woman in his life to almost obsession over Nessa. This story had me from the first page as I read it and cheering for the two to get their chance for happiness. This is a well written story along that is descriptive and inspiring along with characters that I found myself connecting with.

Nessa is filling in for her best friend at a charity auction which is being put on by her mother’s charity. Nessa is a confident, independent, intelligent, gorgeous woman. Parker is a recluse and not into parties, people and he would rather be at home. But when he sees Nessa he is energized. He is going to bid on her and he is going to win a date with her. Nessa and Parker have an electric spark when they touch. The story is sweet, heartwarming, sexy and steamy! It’s filled with romance and unexpected love! Such a great entertaining read! I can’t wait until the next one in the series. So good!!.

A swoon worthy start to a new series!
A great start to a new series! Book one of the Billionaire Playboys series features Parker and Vanessa. He is one of four “brothers” who bounded from their first meeting and have succeeded. For such a flirt he prefers to be at the back end of their business, but when his brother Ezra invites him to a benefit auction he sees something he likes and what happens next was a swoon worthy, steamy romance read that doesn’t disappoint. I enjoyed how the characters chemistry blossomed to so much more and I can’t wait to read more of this series.

Nessa fills in for her sister at a charity auction and Parker ends up bidding on her. When she ends up sick Parker shows up at her place to take care of her even after she warns him that he could catch her cold. Then she returns the favor when he does get sick. They bond during these times making them grow closer. Will they take a chance with each other and see if there is something more there?
This is an amazing story that once I started it I couldn't put it down. This is a well written and very entertaining story. Its a book that any book lover would enjoy.

This felt a little of an odd length, especially compared to other Tory Baker books. It felt slightly long to be a prequel but not long or detailed enough for a full book.
I needed more time with them after the first few weeks but it jumped to the epilogues. Nessa & Parker both don't conform to the norms of society heir and self made billionaire, they are both more introverted and empathetic.
Whilst I like the new foursome the series is based around I don't feel I fully know what their company is. Maybe I should just enjoy it as a quick, light, HEA read but it made me want it to be deeper, darker and longer.

I loved this romantic steamy love story. Parker and Nessa are a great couple. Nessa is being auctioned for charity and Parker buys her. Before they even go on a date Parker pisses Nessa off. He doesn't even think she'll go on a date with him now but when she gets sick, he is by her side in an instant. This is an excellent love story, two people getting to know each other, breaking down their walls and letting each in. Romantic and steamy. This couple is hot. Loved it.

I loved Playing Dirty: Book 1 of Billionaire Playboys. Nessa is helping her friend day taking her place in a charity auction for a date. It takes one look for Parker to be taken on with Nessa. He wants her and must win the auction. Their relationship moves fast thanks to illness but they wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s a cute story and I loved the characters. I can’t wait to read about the other members of the “Four Brothers”. I would definitely recommend this book.

Parker is a reclusive billionaire who is forced into attending a charity do. Good thing he does as they are having a date auction and he meets Nessa. Instant attraction he just has to win that auction.
The 2 of them are really smoking hot together. Best thing is there are 4 billionaires who are friends and work together, that in my world equals 4 linked stories, I cannot wait!!

I love everything that Tory Baker writes. I stop whatever I'm reading to read her newest books every time. Parker and Nessa are my favorite so far. Their desire for one another is through the roof. He wins a date with her at a charity auction and ends up taking care of her when she gets sick. She returns the favor when he catches it(so cute). After they recover it's non stop for these two they fit perfectly. He's a recluse alpha and she's downtown earth sassy girl but together they make a great duet.

Loved the immediate attraction and response in this short novella. Great connection and the the absolute caring coming from both Parker and Nessa is wonderful. Thought it was great that his best friend Ezra knows exactly which buttons to push in order to get him to open up and move past the hurt and give love another try. The ending was perfect, looking forward to more in this series to see the other partners find their other half.

This book was absolutely so good and will have you hooked from the beginning until the end and the storyline flows throughout the book. Parker goes to a benefit with auction and one a woman catches his eyes but will he be able to to keep the past in the past and learn to be happy again? Vanessa is helping with benefit and auction when she has to step in and help out but what she didn't expect is money raised on her and who did it . It's such a great story and smoking hot sex and off the charts chemistry.

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review. I enjoyed these characters and their story. Parker and Nessa have met their match. Both have strong personalities that actually end up working pretty well together. An illness is what puts her in his sights and then it sticks around long enough for them both to need each other. There are bumps in the road but a future together is still possible. Good characters and the storyline flows well with just a couple of areas I felt rushed. Overall I liked this romance
