Tactical police officer Brock Greer can’t bring himself to divorce his wife despite how she’d left him five months ago for another man. But when he stumbles into the kitchen at their once favorite restaurant, he’s shocked to find Liana speaking in rapid fire Chinese to a tall Asian. And even more horrified when that same man pulls a gun, pointing it at Liana’s head.
Liana Wong has no idea why Brock had shown up at the restaurant in his police uniform, but worse he’d blown her cover. When she’s tracked to several locations, it’s clear that the leader of the sex trafficking ring wants her dead. And the only way to survive is to team up with Brock, despite his deep mistrust. Is it possible that working together to destroy a common enemy will save their marriage?
The story was engaging from the beginning to the end. It was suspenseful, action-packed, and could be a headline with the subject of human trafficking. It was a story of miscommunication, second chances, love, and inspiration with a surprising twist at the end. I enjoyed listening to it via Chirp.
Brock stops at a former haunt for some excellent Chinese food, when he spies his estranged wife Liana in the kitchen. At that moment another man grabs her and threatens to kill her if he doesn't leave. Liana is shocked to see the man she left ,4 months before to enter into an undercover mission looking into sex trafficking. Now her cover is blown and they are on the run together. Can they work together to find out who is behind this and save the girls? Danger seems to surround them on all sides.
The pace is breakneck and the tone is uncertain with an action and character oriented storyline that has no steam. The characters are vivid and engaging. The Christian values are woven in and it was nice to see someone starting their Christian journey. I can't wait to see what happens next with Raelyn. Read these in order. But if you really want to start at the beginning read the SWAT cops (I think that's the title of the series), then Callahan Confidential and then Finnegan First Responders. They all intertwine, but that is the chronological order of the books. Enjoy these high impact Christian suspense romances.
Brock is a fast-paced suspense read involving forced proximity, suspense, and second chance at marriage. When Liana's undercover operation is blown and danger follows her and her husband Brock whom she is separated from, they team up to bring down a sex trafficking operation while sorting through their martial issues. I enjoyed Brick and Liana's faith journey as they aren't Christians but are on their way to becoming Christians. The author added twists and turns and surprises in this story that I wasn't expecting. Looking forward to Raelyn's story next.
I want to start off with a bit of a warning... this book deals with a difficult subject (human trafficing) and there are some fairly graphic violent scenes.
It didn't take long for me to be hooked on this story. It starts out strong and gritty and is fast paced. The subject matter is difficult and yet real and not something we need to ignore. I love the way Scott wove faith into the story. I confess the evil portrayed, as well as the unwielding wickedness of some of the characters was tough to swallow at times, but again.. very realistic.
The best part was watching love overcome some huge obstacles ... this one portrayed the truth of 1 Petr 4:8.. Above all Love Each Other Deeply, because Love Covers a Multitude of Sin.
In this second of the series we find Brock struggling to recover his wife, Liana's leaving him. He believed she left for another man but it was far from that as he would soon discover. Brock is a detective in the squad where Rhy Finnegan is in command. I always enjoy these series. They are pleasant reads yet full of suspense. Pick this one up and do enjoy!
I love Laura Scott's writing. I find her books to be suspenseful, uplifting and wonderful interaction with lots of teamwork among her characters! So I was disappointed for the first time in that this book seemed rather whiney and that the team seemed way farther in the background, hence my first 4 star review of a normally 5 star author.
I already read Grayson and now I decided to read Brock. This one threw me for a loop and had some twists and turns I didn’t expect. It was nicely written and it worked well to listen to as an audiobook. The narrator did a great job with the different voices. I look forward to reading the next one in the series.
I love when an author writes a series and then continues to add another series that includes characters from the first series. When I finish a book series, it feels like I’ve lost some friends. You will enjoy this series.
