A Navy SEAL Romance #1

Hard Bounty: A SEAL Contemporary Romance

Rate this book
I remember the way he touched me and how I didn't want him to stop. I would run my fingers down his chest and rock-hard abs.

Jaxon

I didn’t miss the war, but I sure as hell missed my team. I am a Navy SEAL, and all my buddies are SEALs, traveling the world, saving lives, and fighting for our country. That’s what we do! I didn’t want the rod in my leg, and I wasn’t gonna let an injury keep me from the life I loved.

Unfortunately, my CO had a different idea. Since leaving the SEALs, I’ve been a PI for my buddy’s agency. I spent my time chasing down cheating husbands and corporate criminals. I worked hard in the private sector, but I was bored. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d taken a vacation.

So, when I found out my next job was to bring an embezzling former accountant for Genotym Inc back to Houston to face charges, and it was going to take me to the Caribbean...how could I say no?

I wanted the sun, the beach, and the women in bikinis looking for some attention. I wasn’t counting on intense attraction and soulful green eyes. After all, how hard could it be to get one woman on a plane back to Houston...

Amelia

I couldn’t believe I’d fallen for Michael Smith’s BS. He was my boss at Genotym, Inc, and I should’ve known better. I liked the attention. I liked to feel wanted. When I found out he was stealing from the company, I’d had enough. Sure, he tried to deny it, but I had the proof on a USB.

I quit, told him he needed to come clean, cashed out my 401K, and took off to Grenada to lick my wounds and figure out what I’d do next.

When I was almost mugged on the streets of St. George’s, a handsome stranger came to my rescue. He was the sexiest man I had ever seen. He seemed like the type that left broken hearts in his wake.

I wasn’t looking to get involved, but when things go from bad to worse, who else could I turn to for protection? Even if I had everything to lose, including my heart.

**Review of the audiobook**

STORY
Accountant Amelia notices that her boss/ex is embezzling, so she quits and takes a break in the Caribbean for two weeks to think about what she should do about it. When injured, ex-navy SEAL turned private investigator, Jackson, is hired to find out who’s been stealing from the company, sparks fly between him and Amelia.

This is one of those books that I would have quit listening to if I have not received it free from the author in exchange for my honest feedback. Not only was everything very predictable, but there were huge, gaping plot holes - things that made absolutely no sense. For example This was my first first time reading a book by Riley, but if all of her books are similar to this one, it’s also the last

PERFORMANCE
I listened to the Audible audiobook narrated by Jack Williams. From the very beginning, it was difficult for me to continue listening, often wanting to quit because of the terrible narration. Mr. Williams left way too much time between words, making sentences sound choppy, not flowing like human speech. In fact, he sounded robotic at times; some of my text to speech voices sound more human then he did.

I don’t often hear typos or mistakes while listening to an audiobook, but I heard one while listening to this when Riley says, ”Jack’s was confident they had lived a very different lives.” Perhaps this wasn’t a typo but the narrator’s mistake as he mispronounced several words including RECONCILE and MISCHIEF. I will definitely avoid listening to audiobooks narrated by Mr. Williams in the future.

The story-line is good with a very short time-line for Jaxon & Amelia to fall in love. She disappears when her boss is framing her. Jaxon is hired to find her & bring her back to face charges. Jaxon, the smart-as-a-whip investigator realizes something in the boss's story doesn't ring true & does find her easily in Grenada. He pretends to be on vacation & hooks up with her. There is the mystery of who is out to kill her & how the truth comes out in the end. Finding love & having a HEA works out for both of them.

This is my honest review.

Finally met the last PA at Ex-Force and he was awesome!

Quick read that keeps the reader at the edge of the seat. It was really realistic to see how Jax got scared and fought his way back to her. Beautiful.

I’m quickly becoming this author’s fan.

A Nightmare Vacation

An excellent romantic suspense with a gripping storyline. My very first read of this really good author I shall certainly be following her great books in the future! Hard Bounty kept me enthralled from the first page, lots of intrigue and twists and turns with likeable characters too. Amelia and Jax were both wounded souls trying to rebuild their lives! Their attraction was instant and palpable throughout this superb read! Could the quiet and reserved Amelia have a romantic fling in Grenada? Why is Jax so attracted to a could be embezzler? Will he blow his cover and scare her off? Had Genotym hired a hitman? Who is the target Jax or Amelia? Was Jax her enemy? The answer to all these questions you will only know if you one-click this gripping read!

This was a nice and quick read. I really enjoyed Jaxon as a main character. I loved his back ground, and the hardships that he is faced with because of his tours.

I loved how the author incorporated his nightmares and flashbacks into the plot with Amelia as well. I feel like sometimes in romance novels, things happen too quickly; but in life when you meet someone and you have this instant connection with them...it just happens.

Reading about the embezzlement, the tropical island, the danger and intrigue that followed Amelia, and the steaminess of this novel; I really enjoyed it.

The ending was a bit cheesy for me, but a happily ever after is never a bad thing. I can't wait to read novel two... even though these novels are standalone novels. I am excited to hopefully see some of the characters from this novel in book two! EEP!

Jillian Riley comes out running in this book, with action right from the beginning!
She has taken a second chance romance, added action and mystery and swirled it around into a story that keeps the reader from ever being able to put the book down!
Her talent of creating lifelike characters draws you into the book, leaving you wondering where the next turn will be. The action is palpable and puts the reader into the story, to where you find yourself gnawing on your nails and your heart racing.
Ms. Riley has definitely written a book that could be enjoyed by all.

A nice romantic suspense read.

Amelia, an accounting supervisor, takes some time away from the States after a particularly nasty altercation with her boss over his actions. Jaxon, former Navy SEAL turned private investigator, is hired by her boss to bring her back based on lies her boss told him. As the story progresses fate steps in, danger comes calling and the truth finally comes out on all fronts. This was an exciting debut book from a new author. Jillian Riley created a world that was easy to visualize myself in while providing suspenseful situations for he characters to get themselves through. I am looking forward to see where she takes me next.

Amelia was an account executive at a firm. Her boss Michael and her had a thing going. She broke it off when she found out he was embezzling from the company. Amelia told him to come clean. He refused to come clean. She cashed in all of her savings and quit. She decided to go take a vacation.

Amelia went to Granada. While there Jaxon saves her from an attacker. He was sent to bring her back because her former boss accused her of embezzling. Jaxon finds after meeting her that she is innocent. Now he just has to prove it.

Can Jaxon prove it before she ends up hurt? Will their attraction be more than just a quick romance?

You must read to find out!

Who does not enjoy a love story about a man who thinks he is not built to find love and meets his soul mate and commits himself to her without realizing it? Well, this love story is full of roadblocks, since the main character initially is hired to turn her in for embezzlement. When someone tries to kill her, he realizes that she might instead be the victim. The reading experience would have been much more enjoyable with better proofreading, but the plot keeps being interesting and full of surprises.
I subtracted a star because of the poor proofreading. Some sentences were difficult to read / understand, that was annoying.

A very entertaining very well written action romance.  The storyline was exciting, full of action and a included a little sexy romance.  The suspense, mystery, action, and intrigue kept me on the edge of my seat till the last page was turned trying to figure out the embezzler and more. Loved Amelia and Jax with their sizzling chemistry and hot steamy scenes with the added twists and turns was a good flowing storyline with well developed characters. An amazing must read. This is a good romantic Suspense. I liked how the writer introduced the two characters with enough information. Allowing the reader to picture the Emila and Jax how they would want to relate with the characters in the book. The plot was a good plot to have for these two. I was intrigued with the book. The action slowly build up in the book, but once it was there it was fast pace conspiracy style. The story line made sense. There was no made up off the wall action in the book. Good job with the book. I voluntary reviewed this ARC after receiving a free gifted copy.

Hard Bounty by Jillian Riley is a romantic suspense with a well-developed plot and great characterizations. Amelia and Jaxon are the stars of this book and are described in detail with no inconsistencies.  There is plenty of romance (tastefully described) and the suspense involves embezzlement and attempted murder. Jillian Riley writes a fabulous story that leaves you wanting to know more about the Ex-Force investigators!

I really enjoyed this story. There was lots of suspense, longing, and great character development. Unfortunately, the editing was atrocious. Too many extra words, missing words, and all around grammar issues that kept causing hiccups in the reading process. I had to skim read rather than savor the words just to keep the flow going. Fortunately, the story was worth the effort.

Loved the story of Jax and Amelia.

It was a quick read but it had all the essentials for a great love story - hunky hero, feisty heroine who needs protecting with some tantalising hot scenes thrown in.

What more could you want.

This was an enjoyable narrative with a gorgeous, damaged Navy SEAL and an attractive intelligent all American girl. The storyline brings these two together and endangers their lives as a devious villain wreaks havoc on a beautiful tropical island. Very Pleasant Read!!!!

The story line was fine, but it seemed kind of canned and typical. Not much really to capture interest. I also had a hard time with run-on sentences, improper use of punctuation and changing back and forth between word for word and contractions.

Jaxon (a ex-Navy Seal) was in the right place at the right time when Amelia needed him. She was blinded by her boss, and found out what he'd been doing. Action and love all in one book.
