You don’t rest when you’re tired. You rest when the killer is dead.
After her first assignment for the AGENCY is a success, word gets out, and she's in demand. Her next mission is sent from the top. As in the president of the United States. And you don’t say no to the president, no matter what the assignment is.
Aleasha goes from being the hunter to the hunted when she agrees to protect daughters of a man about to revolutionize the power industry. With Drew across the country healing from their last mission, Manny steps in to be Aleasha's partner.
Can she keep the girls safe, her emotions in check, and herself alive while dodging world-class assassins and a few ghosts from her past? And what will she do when she discovers Drew has committed the ultimate betrayal?
WithDREW is a YA romantic suspense thriller that will keep up listening late into the night to see what happens next! If you like Alex Rider, the Gallagher girls, or the Gems, you'll love the Unleashed series.
4.5 Stars! This has become my new most favorite teen spy thriller series. It's fast-paced, full of action, and has great characters and excellent plots that keep you turning the pages. WithDREW did not disappoint, and I had a rollercoaster of a ride reading it. It was so good that I read it in one sitting! (Well, sort of one sitting, unless you count a bathroom break.) One word of warning: this book ends in a cliffhanger, so prepare to be distressed by the sheer yearning for the continuation of the story.
※Summary※ After the success of her first mission, word of Aleasha's competence spreads. She is soon given a new assignment from the President himself and is ordered to protect the two daughters, Gloria and Donna, of a nuclear physicist working on a new type of energy. Drew is away, ostensibly recovering from their last mission, so she and Manny are partnered together to befriend the girls and covertly protect them. Without Drew to depend on, Aleasha struggles to keep a level head and clear the mission without any mishaps. When the three girls are attacked one night while Aleasha is driving Gloria and Donna home, questions arise as to whether the attempted assassination was for the two sisters or for Aleasha. More questions arise as events unfold, like, who is this Simon guy who's after her and and why does he want her? Finally, when things can't get any worse for Aleasha, she discovers a shocking truth about the accident. Well, shocking for her, at least. It was way too obvious from the start for all the readers. (Seriously, a 7-year-old could've figured it out.)
I loved Unleashed, but, as 2nd books usually go, I wasn't expecting WithDREW to be as good. (Just my opinion, but aren't 2nd installments of movies and books usually not as good as the 1st? I know it's not all the time, but it happens a lot.) However, this book took me by surprise. It was awesome! I think I may even like it better than Unleashed.
I really wish there was more of Drew, though. I really liked him in Unleashed, and I wish he appeared more in this story. I don't get Aleasha's reaction to him in the end. I mean, yeah, if I were in her shoes, I'd be upset if I learned that he'd kept it a secret from me that , but I would at least try to understand the why of his (and the AGENCY's) actions. If she thought harder, maybe she would've understood the logic behind their conduct and forgiven him. Besides, he probably wanted to tell her but wasn't allowed to by the higher-ups. She didn't need to go totally berserk on him. I really hope she doesn't make him her enemy, but it looks that way by the next books' blurbs. Sad, I liked them together.
I love all the characters. They're all so unique and great, and each of them is so well-written. All except Manny, that is. I didn't like him. He was useless and sometimes annoying. I know he liked Aleasha and all, but couldn't he at least have the dignity to not try to "steal" her from Drew, especially when he knows she's happy with him?
Warning: Potential Spoilers Ahead.
The ending did have a sense of deja vu to it. You know, how everybody's gone, they get into a firefight, Drew gets caught and takes a heck of a beating, and then Aleasha gets caught herself. It kind of felt the same as Unleashed. (But it's not like I really minded it.)
I was really happy to see that Aleasha played things smarter in this book, though, because I was frustrated with her not thinking things thoroughly in the first book. I think she still could've gone about things better and smarter, but it's improvement.
It was a great book, and when it ended, I was crestfallen and dolorous. I was enjoying the book so much and didn't want it to end. And just when I was trying to figure out how Aleasha would get out this time, the book ended and I was all like "What? It ends like that? Noooooo!" Yes, apparently I have a bad habit of talking to myself (loudly) whenever I read. I love cliffhangers when I have the next book, but I detest it when I don't or can't read it yet and I'm stuck waiting to see what happens next.
This series is just soooo good. And it's more on the realistic side compared to other teen spy novels I've read. (I'm not saying that it's realistic—it's not—but that it's just more realistic than others.) I love it and would recommend it to anyone who loves teen spy thrillers. I got a free sample of DetoNATE and basically devoured it. I loved it. In just those first 4 chapters, I saw a lot of depth in Nathan's character. I really like him, maybe even more than Aleasha, and I just can't wait to read the full thing. Too bad I have to wait for it to be available at the library...*crying as I think of the people who get to read it before I do.*
A whole new level of beast mode for Aleasha Summers
