You're not broken, weak, or faulty because you binge on food. You're normal and, more importantly, you can fully recover. Let me explain...powerful binge cravings are a natural and normal side effect of food restriction. If you've ever restricted your food intake in your past (e.g. a diet, a detox program, cutting out carbs, etc.), then you may have triggered a primitive natural survival mechanism we call "primal hunger". This leads to powerful binge urges, an insatiable appetite, food obsession, depression, and anxiety. Your body thinks you're in the middle of a famine, and it's doing everything it can to make you eat lots of food. By purging your food, you remain malnourished, and your body is stuck in "primal hunger" mode.
Keep in mind, this has nothing to do with your upbringing, personality, or emotional state. This may come as a surprise, but studies show us that many of the symptoms that might have been thought to be specific to bulimia nervosa are actually the results of starvation (Pirke & Ploog, 1987). Chances are, you're perfectly normal and are just experiencing the natural and very normal side effects of a restrictive diet.
We don't ask you to analyze your painful past experiences or to examine any personality "flaws" that may have led to your bulimia, as there is no scientific evidence supporting the idea that resolving underlying psychological problems leads to recovery (Walsh & Cameron, 2005). Instead, we give you clear, practical steps to remove your primal hunger, stop bingeing and purging, relearn normal eating, and overcome bulimia for life. You can recover. There is a way.

I'll admit that I only made it about a quarter of the way through the book, and already that was enough to tell me that I was wasting my time. This book is very clearly focused on those already at a 'healthy' weight, and fails to acknowledge extremely overweight bulimics. It's all well and good to tell someone to focus on their "set point weight" and accepting what that is, but unless you're telling me it's perfectly acceptable for me to remain at 200lb because "that's the weight I am when I'm not trying to lose weight", then I highly question the effectiveness for me. Rather than hopeful, all this book has left me feeling is more hopeless and guilt-ridden about my body. I also dislike how dismissive the book is on mental health issues, making me feel that I can't 'qualify' as a bulimic because my issues are surrounded by emotional and mental factors.
In short, good for you if it works for you. But if you're a very overweight person suffering from anxiety and depression alongside the bulimia, I really doubt that it will work for you.
I think this book could be incredibly helpful. I will find out as I try the strategies myself over the next few months. I could, however, have done without the numerous testimonials and personal stories throughout the book. I don't feel like they really added anything of value
A look at recovery through a concise way of intuition eating through a stage method that doesn't put you in the 100% go your own way yet. It works on the principle of getting in three meals and three snacks in a day minimum with a max out of three hours in between feedings. Can start on a time thing but as you get more into recovery the hope is to trust your gut (literally) to help you eat when the body feels hungry.
I wish it would have offered more to it because at times it just seemed like a preview o just go visit the site that goes along with the book rather than just telling you what it is eluding too. Basically after looking to the website it just the recovery stories, bonus content, and then coaching stuff.
Simple, practical, yet not really persuasive on some points, of course everyone is different and there is no one size fits all method that can be perfect for everybody. The causes and roots of your ED might be different than those explained in the book but it gives you some simple and easy guidelines to follow and start to get better. But as we all know, there is no magic book or magic pill so don’t expect a miracle, nothing work but practicing a new healthier behavior daily, changing our mindset and repeat everyday..
Although it has a disclaimer excluding other eating disorders inc. Anorexia, and isn't advised for anyone who is underweight it was nonetheless an interesting read; taking a rather different approach from the usual CBT route of most treatment plans. The advice on how and when to eat seems sound and I feel that with medical supervision it would be a method that could help with anorexia too, but that is simply a personal opinion. As with all self help - you actually have to try it to know if it works. It felt like a very practical and simply laid out plan, step by step guidance on a way forward from very disordered behavior to something more natural and intuitive. I did like the straightforwardness of it, but there were a few issues I felt were not covered fully, and there were a few grammatical and spelling errors that grated on my nerves hence the 3 stars only.
I have suffered from bulimia for 22 years, I'm 38 years old. I've never sought any type of help before, because I guess I thought I could sort it out myself. Evidently after 22 years this wasn't going to happen. I'd finally had enough of the shame, guilt and self loathing. I read this whole book in one night and I felt the author had seen into my soul. I am now right at the start of my recovery b uhh t I truly believe I can do it, thanks to this book. If you think it's hopeless, that you will never be free, just given up a few hours of your time, read this book, and maybe change your life. And good luck xxx
