Hunter has trained all of his life to become a hero. Now he has his chance. A great evil has invaded the land and the royal seer has dreamed that there is only one man who can save them.
A Gathering Quest has been launched by the king to find the “One’ in the seer’s dream, the ‘One’ who will save them. Hunter has had dreams too, frightening dreams. For that reason, he eagerly heads to the castle to meet this seer to determine if he is indeed the One.' But the seer disappears before Hunter reaches the castle. Now Hunter’s only choice is to launch his own quest to find the missing psychic. But the ever mischievous Tome, a man who drives Hunter crazy with his endless pursuit of being the best and his relentless acts of sexual harassment, somehow ends up handcuffed to him.
To make matters even worse, Tome insists now he will accompany Hunter on his quest – to protect him. Being handcuffed together, Hunter can hardly refuse. But how can Hunter save the world if he has to constantly battle a very demanding Tome’s advances? More importantly, how can he save himself from falling for this man with the dazzling smile?
Hi, my name is Hurri Cosmo and I am a happy ending junkie. I always have been. You can be pretty rest assured everything I write will have one. I am not big on angst. I believe we get enough of that in real life so when I go to read something, to make the real world go away for awhile, I will most likely not chose something that will make me cry. So I write for those people who, at least occasionally, feel the same way. I’m okay with the fact I will probably never write anything “important” but I guess I will have to see where my imagination takes me. I would love it if you would come along.
Wow, loved this story. Hunter is a great "hero" in that he is not afraid of anything... except Tome's advances. Mainly because he is afraid he can't live up to what he perceives is Tome's image of him. But Hunter soon finds himself up against evil so overpowering, he can't pretend any longer that Tome means nothing to him. Like another review here, Hurri Cosmo has some great endings and this one is an awesome one.
This is a mystery, fantasy read. This has a lot of medieval elements to the story. I normally don’t read historical, don’t really care for that, but this has the fantasy element along with seeming acceptance of homosexuality that makes for good reading.
The “hero” of the story is Hunter. Hunter is a seer. When he is young this disturbs his father and after Hunter “sees” his brother killed he no longer talks of his dreams. When his dreams pick up intensity and it is found out he is dreaming again, the village is a bit panicked. Tome is a fellow villager that grew up with Hunter. His brother killed Hunter’s brother and Hunter grew up hating Tome for it. It didn’t help that Tome bullied him. Now Tome won’t leave him alone and seems to be…FLIRTING with Hunter. Hunter and Tome are swept up by the royal guard when a quest is called. THE seer has come down from his mountain and has said that “one” is needed to fight an evil that is coming. Hunter and Tome both believe Hunter is the one talked about. So they continue on to the castle where they begin the adventure.
Tome is a pushy fellow that just is highly annoying at first. Hunter can’t get rid of him during the quest he embarks upon. Tome is quite adamant about being left behind, he will not be and he will “have” Hunter. Tome appears quite smitten with Hunter. Hunter is all the more annoyed with Tome and his wild ways. He discovers a lot more to Tome that appears on the surface. These two characters are interesting and vivid. The way they grow and change in the story is fairly smooth. I did think Hunter would fight a little more than he did but other than that I loved the characters.
The writing was well crafted. Yes, I could figure out the bad guy pretty quick but the reasons behind everything that happens is a mystery that takes a while to find out. This keeps the book alive for the reader. The author did a wonderful job with the atmosphere for the book as well. Reading along you can just feel the horror and evil that concurs. You can also feel the slow growing affection that Hunter has for Tome. I think if not for Hunter’s dreams Tome and he would have not fought for near as long. The author also used Hunter as the main voice for the book. There are a few scenes with the bad guy’s view and near the end one from Tome’s. I think this last was a wonderful use in the story. It has an impact on the reader that we have not heard from Tome until then.
Now I do have one complaint. Lube…please, lube, oil or the like. Spit doesn’t work all that well and the man would have been a lot more sore with just spit used!
Overall this was a wonderful read. Though not some GREAT NOVEL experience, it was a fun and interesting read that kept me reading throughout. I have enjoyed all that I have read by this author and look forward to more reads from her.
Enemies-to-lovers is a favorite theme of mine, and this story has a slightly different take on that theme. In this case, only one half of the MC duo has sworn off the other half. Hunter thinks he hates Tome based on some old history between their families. However, as much as Hunter professes to hate Tome and his irritating presence, he is also unwilling attracted to the man … at first. Once his walls started to crumble, they came down with a vengeance and the hatred ultimately turned into admiration with a big side of passion.
I loved Tome. He practically worshiped the ground that Hunter walked on and basically followed him around like a love sick puppy (or because of the handcuffs – either one is true). He was mischievous from his head to his toes and his particular brand of determination made me smile. It was gratifying to see Hunter’s opinion of Tome change during the course of their journey. It may have started out with Hunter viewing Tome as a big doofus, but eventually he grew to like the protective streak in the big guy and began to admire how he played an important role in helping to solve the mystery they found themselves embroiled in.
This story is a cross between a historical, a fantasy world, and an action/adventure. It contains a kingdom, soldiers, sword fighting, travel by horse, and people who have special abilities such as seeing the future or conjuring up evil spirits. One of the best things about this book is just how good a job the author did in creating a mysterious evil atmosphere where you can feel the danger lurking just around the corner.
I was working hard to try to solve the mystery of the missing seer and evil spirits as the story progressed. Just when I thought I might have it figured out, there was a twist in the plot that surprised me. A happy ending seemed unlikely, so I was definitely impressed when things turned out in a very gratifying way.
The blurb had me intrigued and the beautiful cover was the icing on the cake in making my decision to read this book, and it was definitely a good decision. If you like a combination of history, fantasy, mystery, mischief, creepy things, emotions that get flipped upside down, and happy endings, then this might be “the one” for you!
This was a great story. I love journeys and Hunter has two of them. First the physical one which was wonderfully told and then there was the one into love. I loved the progression from fear and distrust into the total giving of himself. The end surprised me. I love Hurri Cosmo endings! This one was great.
Hunter is a warrior and a great swordsman but he has dreams that foretell tragedy. When a Quest Gathering is called to find the 'one' who will save the kingdom, Hunter is eager to participate when he discovers the Seer is at the castle, maybe his disturbing dreams are connected to the horror the seer has foreseen. But the Seer disappears and Hunter sets off on his own quest to find the Seer but his friend/adversary Tome is determined to be the best and handcuffs himself to Hunter. Tome has more reasons to shackle himself to Hunter and is determined to finally shatter Hunter's shell, so helping Hunter to save the world seems like a good idea but Tome and Hunter face a horror that just might be the death of them both.
This is a great little fantasy adventure that is a smooth read and easy to enjoy. Hunter and Tome have known each other for years but have never quite been friends, Tome is determined to change that but Hunter can't quite forget the past that colors his feelings. As the two set out on the adventure together Tome finally cracks Hunter's carefully crafted shell and Hunter finally accepts the feelings that Tome invokes in him. Together they face an adversary that they never expected and their relationship is changed forever.
I really enjoyed this story for it's interesting storyline and for it's simplistic setting, the world is written simply without too much information or too many characters to bog the story down. Both Hunter and Tome are interesting men, when the story starts out they both seem to be friendly adversary's but it soon becomes apparent that there is a lot more to their relationship, a lot of which is based in the past. The story is all from Hunter's perspective but we get a great feel for Tome, we see how Hunter works through his feelings and the worry he has over the role he has set himself. Tome is much simpler to watch, he wants Hunter to be his and is aggressive in his pursuit, which is fun to watch, both characters can be a bit arrogant at times but they fit the storyline perfectly.
The storyline is great and you pick up what is happening easily, you get a good idea of who the baddie is and we see things connect together well, so it leaves you in no doubt that the plotting within the story has been going on for some time. The development of Hunter's and Tome's relationship is kinda sweet and heats up pretty well, there is also a slight D/s element that sneaks in from nowhere and surprises as both characters seem quite dominant but it adds a little spice. The adventure is pretty tame but the actual foes that are being fought are sneaky and eerie and the conclusion of the story is exciting.
I recommend this to those that love fantasy adventure, great characters, a slightly twisty storyline and a blossoming love.
In the beginning of the book we meet Hunter, a young man who has dreams that tend to come true. He has dreamt of events like brutal murders in the past that have then actually occurred, exactly as he dreamt them. Now he has been having dreams of a blood filled pool, a black jewel encrusted sword and a great evil. Then there is Tome. Tome’s main goal in life in addition to always wanting to be the best at everything, seems to be getting Hunter to fall for his charms. He follows Hunter around constantly, bugging the crap out of Hunter. Hunter despises him because he was a bully when he was younger and even worse, Tome’s brother killed Hunter’s older brother in cold blood and then ran away. Now royal soldiers have come to their remote village looking for the “One” that the royal seer has foreseen is the only hope to save the kingdom for an evil that is invading the land. Hunter and Tome are both seized by the soldiers because they match the general description provided to the soldiers by the seer. To ensure they aren’t separated, Tome handcuffs himself to Hunter and swallows the key. The book moves rapidly along with Hunter and Tome being the only ones who it appears are actually fighting the evil “ghosts” that seem to be following them. Will they escape the ghosts, will they beat the evil? I’m a huge fan of the fantasy genre and even more so when there are M/M characters. This book handled the pursuit of Hunter by Tome very well, and was written more as a character study between the two. The evil in the background and chasing them is a part of their story, but nothing else seems to exist outside the two of them. Other than very brief interactions with other bit characters, the entire book revolves around the two main characters and their journey. That is not a bad thing, but even with just the two of them I would have liked to see more details. Other than a brief description of the two in the beginning of the book, we never hear again about their physical appearances, etc. Honestly, I never really got an image in my mind of what I thought each looked like. Without that, I found it hard to connect with the characters and because of it, the book felt a little two dimensional. Overall, I felt the book was average, but could have been a lot better with more details.

I went into this with high hopes due to all the great reviews. It didn't live up to the hype for me. I figured the 'mystery' out by about 30% so the rest of the book just dragged. I thought the characters were well written and I enjoyed the originality of the book, but overall just a meh read for me.
This author is really not the one for me. This book proved my point, once more. The main storyline is rather weird a the same I can state about the romance between Hunter and Tome. I didn't enjoy reading this story and was glad when it ended!
