The Warlord Claims His Bride

Historical mashup that's more confused than compelling.
Bronson seeks refuge after years of fighting. Having claimed his territory, he looks forward to settling down and begetting heirs. At forty, that's probably a good idea. While I appreciate his brashness and lack of refinement he spends the entire story shirtless, in fact, I don't think he owns a shirt. This is expounded upon how it is a badge of his virility and attribute of being a warlord.
The author's note state this isn't strictly period consistent, but if you're going to claim a time and a place then you really do need to try and stick to it. The made up locations and kingdoms isn't necessary.
There's some general quibbles with the construction. An inordinate amount of exposition and info dumping coming from the characters thoughts makes this feel wooden. Please show me something instead of narrating it. Editing misses include repeated phrases and sentences (one, a paragraph apart) and misspellings.
The sex is virginal rough. She wants it, but not sure what and he's going to give it to her. He wants to be gentle, but he just can't control himself. Fine, not titilating, but maybe that trope still appeals to readers. The cold water on it is the repetition with lots of 'hard members' and 'juicy' bits. And yes, some the anachronisms pulled me out of reading. First time I've ever read 'fooking'. Nothing groundbreaking here, but a lot of attention is paid to Genevieve being a more generously sized female compared to the other village girls Bronson didn't select as his bride.
The rival in this whole story is McCarrick and since he killed Bronson's dad when he was five that means that when they meet up thirty-five years later and Bronson's 40, then McCarrick has to be at least 55-60 old. No surprise who wins. There's a bit of drama, but this is primarily erotica. That said, this had one of the strangest epilogues I've ever read with two sections in different timelines and one solely for a sex scene. Odd. Since I wasn't sold on the sex earlier, these didn't turn out to be a bonus for me.
Overall, a more tender reincarnation of old bodice rippers, but without the attention to details, and combined with the overuse of exposition and repetitive storytelling elements detracted from enjoyment.

She also knew that wedding him would ensure that her father was always taken care of, and that made marrying someone she was not in love with a wee bit easier to stomach. She would make sure to be the perfect, submissive wife to her new husband, because he was very clearly a dominant man.And though being time appropriate, the first part I understood, but the second made me roll my eyes.

3 1/2 stars,This is not my typical read the closest I have gotten to anything like this book was a paranormal romance with the hero being a Scottish vampire who had flash backs when he was human hundreds of years back. But I really like Jenika Snow and something about this book caught my attention enough to read this it.
When Bronson comes home from finally concurring and taking back the last that was stollen from his family and his father faught to the death for Bronson is ready for a wife but he wants a wife who knows what it is like to work and survive.
Genevieve has always thought Bronson was handsome but being a farmers daughter she knew they would never happen till he announces his search for a wife. To please her father she agree to attend.
Once Bronson lays eyes on Genevieve he knows she is just what he is looking for and instantly claims her and makes preparations for her to be his wife. What started out a fear soon turned to love for Genevieve and she and Bronson begin to make a life and plan for children, but the clan who took their land and his fathers life so many years ago wants it back and they want Bronson to suffer while they take it.
While I really did like this book a lot of important parts to Genevieve and Bronson's story were completely missing. Because of the story line we don't get a real relationship before they are married and since that was part of the actual story it didn't bother me, but I really wanted more if them falling in love and them getting to know each other instead we are left having to just believe they fall in love because they tell each other that instead of reading about them falling in love and that hurt this story.
I did find a lot of this story really interesting and it was very good but with a romance book I need just that, romance. In true Jenika Snow fashion the hero is amazing and possessive I loved Bronson from the beginning and Genevieve was another great heroine in the list that Mrs. Snow creates. Overall this was a good story that would have benefited from a few more pages to give us more time to watch both of them fall in live.

Enjoyable fantasy romance.
Bronson Lyon is the warlord of Clan Lyon and seems to have spent most of his life fighting to reclaim his territory, now it's time to find a wife and have some sons.
Genevieve is twenty and lives with her father in a small cottage on their farm, word has spread that Lord Lyon is looking for a wife, surprisingly he's looking for a peasant bride, he wants strong children and figures a woman used to hard work and hardship will give him what he needs.
I enjoyed this book, as with all Jenika's books I would have liked more but it worked for me as a fantasy romance, personally I would have liked a little more just Bronson and Genevieve but the epilogue was wonderful.
I have to admit that every time Bronson said 'fook' or 'fooking' I had to smile.

I liked it, but I'm not a fan of the time line. The book starts with how Bronson's father is killed in battle, when Bronson is still a little boy, 5 years old, after that we have 35 years later when he meets Genevieve, again 3 years later when they've started their family and again 25 years later when they have aged and we can see their family.
It was one very enjoyable book despite all the time lines.

Genevieve has longed for Bronson, never thinking that he would choose her. Bronson is captivated by Genevieve and takes her as his wife. Nice historical, Scottish romance. This is a republished story that has been updated. Bronson is fierce in his love for Genevieve. Steamy and romantic. There’s a bit of drama with a revenge plot. Epilogues long into the future. HEA.

How can you resist that cover?! Bronson is a badass warlord and he wants Genevieve. But she does not give in just because a man has a whim. He must show her what’s its like to be a Warlord’s bride but also protect her from his enemies.

Im actually giving it a 3.5 I loved the story but wished the charries could be fleshed out more. It felt more like reading story line.

A Beautiful Scottish Romance by Jenika Snow is a must read for all readers. Warlord was Sexy, page turning, delicious read. I Really Enjoyed reading it.

I know that Jenika Snow can write amazing, entertaining MC books, but had no idea she is just as talented at writing historical romance. She proved her writing skills in The Warlord Claims His Bride which I devoured in one sitting.
Bronson Lyon is the warlord of Clan Lyon and he has recently won back all of his lands from the thieves that killed his father when Bronson was only a child. He is tired of fighting and wants to settle down with a wife and start a family. But instead of looking for a fine lady, he is looking for a peasant woman who understands the value of hard work. After calling in all the women from the village, his eye is caught by a beautiful redhead who he decides is the one he will marry. Genevieve is attracted to Bronson but never expects that she would one day marry him. She is nervous but he is able to win her over. As the two fall in love, it appears that Bronson’s desire for peace may not come true.
One of the many reasons that I love Ms. Snow’s work is because I always find myself easily lost in the story. No matter what’s happened that day, I know that I’m in for a fun time. While reading, I find myself alternating between laughing, crying, and panting from the erotic sex scenes. In The Warlord Claims His Bride, I was able to completely immerse myself in the developing relationship between Bronson and Genevieve. There are no surprises in the story but that’s just fine by me. There is something so comforting in opening a book and knowing just what to expect. And since I’m expecting a good story, interesting characters and hot sex, there really isn’t anything else I could want.
Please be aware that while The Warlord Claims His Bride is considered historical romance, it is more of a fantasy and while it holds some historical facts, there are references that are not correct for the time period. I certainly didn’t mind because the book was so enjoyable that I really didn’t notice any historical inaccuracies and I really doubt you will notice either. Hopefully this is the start of a new series for Ms. Snow because I really enjoyed this new universe she created.

This was a good fast book. The plot was pretty straight forward - warrior fights to get back his kingdom, gets a bride, make babies, kill the his last greatest enemy. Normally in these types of books the h fights against marrying the H or trusting them or w/e However, this h didn't. She was a Lil scared of H at first but mostly just because she was a virgin and was scared he would break her. I really enjoyed that I didn't have to read pgs of inner back and forth with her feelings. It was refreshing. Really liked this book.
There were 2 or 3 sex sense and they were steamy but not super hot. *3.5 steam level overall. The last sex sense was pretty good though w the H spanking h and Anal. Not much dirty talk..there was a little(but I'm a sucker for dirty talk so I think there could have been way more)
Overall, really good book. Steamy, Romantic, and action. The only thing I wish it would have had was more sense w the H/h doing things together, character growth together. It left you wanting a deeper connection between them shown. But that's the draw back of novellas, never enough.

The Warlord Claims His Bride is more erotica than romance. If one gets this don't expect a deep story. Its mostly erotica.
What didn't work- the romance. I didn't feel a connection between the hero and heroine. Even their erotica was blah. The story was blah. Not really compelling.
What did work- I liked the heroine. She was nice, ordinary and the hero was her only lover.
I liked the hero. He was a warrior. Tough. Badass. Took care of business.
This was a quick, ok read.

This was a quick easy read. Not really much to say about it. I guess I like the shifter books written by this author better. There was a nice feel for the grittiness of life as a serf back then though. I also liked how the battle stuff wasn't drawn out to blow by blow blah blah blah. Same with the sex... I swear, some of the books I've read lately bore me to tears with all the sex and lack of plot. This book has spice but not at the expense of the story.

Nice read. I would be happier if we had more interaction between the main characters that was not sex related. It was mostly about how he had got his land back and how he was going to keep it, also getting sons.

While not my favorite theme I found it to be an enjoyable read. Storyline was entertaining, fast-paced and steamy hot. Characters had chemistry and passion. Loved the way the characters talked. Would recommend.

This book wasn't bad, but definitely not my favourite Jenika Snow book. I have read many of her other books, and this has the same feel but the historical element isn't really her thing. If you like your historical romance books to be accurate to events, then do not read this book, you will be disappointed.
