This book was surprising to me. I expected a portal based military sci-fi story, which is what I got, but that wasn't all I got. Also included is a strong horror element, aliens, and parasites that have the ability to take over worlds.

Alex is a corporal sent to a remote base in Alaska for discretions against an important General's daughter. He's stuck there, passing the time when the Army's 63rd division shows up with a bunch of equipment and a young girl, who is directing everything.

Needless to say, things go wrong and Alex along with others end up on a new world. The girl, Asle, is also there as they try to understand what is going on around them, and whether they can get home.

This new world has the same geography as Earth, but it also has deadly parasites, a fog that once inhaled can make you insanely stronger and faster, huge monsters that take every weapon the team have to put down (if they're lucky), and a war happening in between Alaska and Nevada.

I'll stop the recap there. This is a well written novel, and Alex Summers is a man who's been through hell and back on this new world but is still standing. The pieces of what is happening start coming together towards the end, and even then there are more questions we don't have answers to.

Most importantly, the book kept me reading even when it does drag. When the team gets stuck in a fort in Anchorage, that brings the tension level down, but only for a while before it is ramped right back up again.

I really enjoyed this, and while I realize Military sci-fi isn't for everyone, this has enough going on that the military element gets pushed aside from time to time.

Wow!!!!!Definitely a Five Star Story! This would make an epic movie. I can't imagine the creative talent necessary to be able to seemlessly blend the different elements in this plot and create such a great fast paced action drama that was both thrilling and terrifying. For goodness sakes, there were even Elves, huge, unearthly monsters, and flesh eating zombies in this narrative and still it worked to add more substance and interest to the plot. I was constantly on the edge of my seat as Army grunt, Alex Summers, attempted to survive long enough to help his friends and make it home. This is a must read if you're looking for a real adventure into the unknown with all kinds of unusual situations and many more surprises. Don't Miss This One!!!!! Really Great Read!!!!!

Couldn't stop reading it!

OMIGOSH!! What a fantastic story! American soldiers find themselves in another world. Monsters, elves and other creatures they encounter while trying to get to another portal so they can get home. Awesome imagination and well written. Can't wait for the next sequel.

Stand Alone?

Mistakes: I found one mistake in this book.

Plot: At first I thought that this was simple portal fantasy. The more I read i realized this is a good slow burn science fiction.

Characters: Very interesting group. I would be pleased if a second book where to ever come out.

Fantasy mixed with military movements, lots of war-like action with creatures, people that are human like and even a worm hole machine! I liked it but as all free teasers, to buy the next and the next is outside my budget!

Unexpected

I thought this may be a bit pedestrian. I was badly mistaken. Lots I grist for the mill here. Universes to save. Bravo.
