Life isn’t kind to Lance York. A full-time job has eluded him for years, his wife loathes the sight of him, his bank accounts are empty, and his wealthy father-in-law revels in his failures. After he lunges in front of a car to save a sick and disoriented woman, Lance awakens in a quarantined hospital.
A devastating plague is spreading worldwide, driving those infected with it insane. Their bodies begin to mutate into horrors that have haunted mankind’s nightmares for centuries.
The world descends into chaos as the infected flee to the shadows, emerging at night to devour the remnants of civilization. With the help of an unlikely ally, Lance must navigate through the collapsing city of Pittsburgh, striving to escape the madness of the apocalypse that unfolds around them.
Consumed (The Hunger, book two)
Lance, and his companion Cass have survived the apocalypse. Much to their surprise, that was the easy part. They've fled the city, struggling to find food and shelter, fighting against the nightmarish infected and the militant living, willing themselves to endure through each day.
Ravaged (The Hunger, book three)
Lance York, a self-described loser in another life, has rediscovered himself in the midst of the apocalypse. Along with a cadre of other survivors, including the hardened, sexy Cass, Lance has taken refuge in a compound, struggling to survive the onslaught of monstrosities descending upon them each night.
The horrors that have devoured mankind are changing, their minds rebooting like a computer. Intelligence, the lone advantage of the humans, is returning to the infected. They ravage the compound with calculated, precise strikes, chiseling away at the defenses Lance and his friends have erected.
"JASON BRANT" is an anagram for Bas Trojann, a former Bigfoot hunter who, after being abducted (and subsequently returned) by aliens, decided to hang up his ghillie suit and enter the world of professional arm wrestling. Despite back-to-back first place finishes in the South Dakota World International Championship League, Bas receded from athletics to invent cheese and give Al Gore the initiative to create the internet.
Nearly a decade after writing the bestselling self-help series, Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese (Cut into Four Pieces) for the Soul, Bas has left his life of notoriety and critical acclaim behind him to write existential, erotic poetry.
Lance, by his own admission, was a loser. Stuck in a failed marriage and unable to keep a job, he had succumbed to depression and had pretty much given up. While walking down the street talking to an old coworker that he hadn’t seen in years, he noticed an incoherent woman stumbling toward an intersection and certain death. He was struck by a car when he pushed the woman to safety, but the insanity was just beginning. While in the hospital, he learned that the woman was infected with a virus that had turned her into a cannibalistic monster. She wasn’t the only infected; it seemed the entire city of Pittsburgh was under attack, and the military closed in to quarantine the hospital. With the help of a doctor and a staff sergeant with a conscious, Lance was able to get his soon-to-be ex wife and her boyfriend (his old coworker), to safety and to escape the hospital. His journey to safety, however, was far from over!
Jason Brant has made me afraid of the dark once again! His rendering of these “Vladdies” was horrifying. They’re a terrifying cross between demons, zombies and vampires, and the true stuff of nightmares! Lance and his travelling companion Cass were quite a pair. The banter made me smile even while my heart was pounding and I was struggling to remind myself that it was okay to exhale! These two “failures” came into their own and proved their own opinions of themselves wrong. They managed to be stronger than they thought, while still keeping their insecurities. This made them completely believable characters that I rooted for with a vengeance! I try to imagine myself stuck in a situation like this, and I hope to be 1/10th of the person that Cass was.
This book was so fast paced that there was absolutely never a dull moment. It held my attention from the first page to the last, and I darn-near threw my kindle when the battery died. This is also a book that I thought about even when I wasn’t reading it… very few books affect me like that. I am both nervous about and looking forward to the next book in the series. Jason has a way of making even the bizarre terrifyingly real, and this book was no exception. As a Pennsylvania girl, the location of the book hit me a little hard. My home was being invaded! Seriously, five stars doesn’t do this book justice. Elevendy seven will have to do!
Consumed (The Hunger #2) by Jason Brant
Wow. Where do I begin? This book takes off exactly where Devoured (book 1) ends. This is not really a stand alone, so I recommend that you read the first in the series before this one. Actually, the awesomeness of this book doubles when you read Jason’s short story, Lotion, that was in Cynthia Shepp’s Apocalypse Anthology. Lotion was the story that started this entire series, introduced us to this world, and to a couple of the characters. This latest installment in this series does not disappoint! The action was intense and pretty much nonstop throughout the book. That’s not the only great thing about this story. This book is well-balanced. What I mean by this is that the characters are written beautifully and grow through the story, the action is intense, the horror is vividly real, and there is just enough humor and even the occasional “Awww” moment to keep the scary stuff from overwhelming the reader. This book has it all!
When this book starts off, Lance and Cass, Eifort and Dr. Emmett Brown (haha), are living on the Duchess, a boat, in the middle of the Allegheny River to avoid the victims of the Xavier virus. These vampire-like once humans have taken over the night and have infected or eaten the majority of the population. When their boat is destroyed, they have to move on and find another safe place to hide out from the monsters. To make matters worse, a militia-like group of survivalists headed by a psychopath named Ralph are on a mission to wipe them out, too, thanks to Lance unwittingly angering Ralph in a restaurant in the previous book. This just adds to the horror, as the group of four can’t seem to avoid one nightmare encounter after another. There are several moments of hilarity in this book. The banter between Lance and Cass had me laughing even through the scary moments, the Doc Brown and Back To the Future references and jokes made this geek giggle, and the daily ham radio reports from the Wild Man of Monroeville. The Wild Man seemed to know exactly what was going on in the Pittsburgh area from his seemingly impenetrable hidden location, and his descriptions of the people and events had me literally laughing out loud. There are some serious developments in this book that I didn’t see coming, and wow… that’s all I can say about that without giving away spoilers. The end of the book had the stories coming full circle, with characters from the short story Lotion making their appearance, and the ending really threw me for a loop! I didn’t want to put this book down, and re-read several sections after I finished because I simply was not ready to be done with these wonderful characters in this frightening but realistic world!
Ravaged (The Hunger #3), by Jason Brant
This is the third book in The Hunger series, and I didn’t think he could top book two. Book two was a fast-paced Hell ride through an apocalyptic nightmare. I was wrong. Book three blew me away and had me thinking of the book when I had to put it down and walk away and deal with real life. I desperately wanted to lock myself away from everyone and read this book in one sitting.
The “Vladdies” as they’re referred to in the book are changing yet again. They’re becoming more than just killing and eating machines, they’re thinking and communicating with each other. Lance, Cass, Eifort, Doc Brown and the rest of the bunch found safety in the second book, but their safe haven became more of a trap once the Vladdies started planning ways to breach the security measures. A rouge but small band of “military” also moves in to complicate things. Making matters even worse, Cass is pregnant, making Lance’s need to protect her even stronger. This book had non stop action, from beginning to end. I barely had time to catch my breath before being dragged into the next crisis. This is definitely a book for those who hate filler fluff, as there is absolutely none in this entire series. I held my breath one minute, and laughed the next. I was terrified to read the next page, and even cried a little at the end.
My fiance, who doesn’t read at all, paid rapt attention to my narration of this entire series as I’ve read it so far and insists that Jason needs to find a way to make these books into a movie. I usually balk at those comments, but I tend to agree with him on this one. I’d love to watch this and the last two books as movies… as long as:
1. Jason writes, directs, produces and casts said movie 2. It’s a huge epic movie leaving absolutely NOTHING out.
THE HUNGER series by Jason Brant is one of those spectacular series you can't get enough of. In this Omnibus edition, you get the first three entries for one awesomely low price. Do yourself a favor, read my reviews for each book, and then pick it up for yourself!

Devoured is the first book in best-selling author Jason Brant’s new series, The Hunger. It’s based off a short story he wrote titled LOTION, written for Apocalypse: An Anthology by Authors and Readers.
The novel starts off with Lance York – a man who, by his own admission, is a loser. Barely able to hold a job and coming upon an impending divorce, Lance sees no light in sight. Things get even worse for the poor man when, after saving a sickly woman from being hit by a car, he finds himself stuck in a quarantined hospital. Things escalate quickly as the sickly woman makes a return, but as something else. She has begun to mutate, as has many others. Cities begin to fall, the military steps in but proves to be ineffective, and civilization starts its inevitable collapse. All within the span of a day.
Lance now has to survive in this newly ravaged world, coming to terms with the drastic changes to his life and assimilating to the new laws of the new, burnt world. It’s kill or be killed now, and Lance, with his new companion Cass who is much more than she appears, decides it’s not him who’s going down.
This story was brilliantly written, each scene depicted with such detail and care that it was like a true horror movie in my head. There are humorous parts as well, as is Jason Brant’s signature, timed well and not out-of-place like some novels tend to do. There’s always a good joke to be had when the tension begins to cease, and Jason Brant makes sure the joke is spoken!
The monsters in this novel were unique. They’re vampires, sort of. They aren’t your average, run-of-the-mill blood suckers. They’re mutated monsters who have nothing of their past human lives left inside of them except for a few snippets of intelligence – which only makes them more terrifying. The Vladdies – as Brant has dubbed them – can only come out at night, but that doesn’t mean the daytime is safe. Those who were recently infected are still able to roam in the light, and prove to be a threat bigger than you’d expect. No time and nowhere is safe from these creatures, and though things look bleak Lance and Cass trudge on in the hopes of finding salvation.
I sincerely enjoyed this book and positively can’t wait for the next one!

Consumed is the second in Author Jason Brant's apocalyptic series The Hunger. The first being Devoured.
Continuing the story of self-proclaimed loser Lance York and his wild-card partner Cass: the two have gained two new friends in Doc Brown and Eifort and are still trying to survive the Xavior virus that has turned millions into blood-thirsty monsters.
Things become even more complicated when the Minutemen (introduced in the first novel) become more of a threat. Lance and his crew are rushed to find shelter before it all comes down on them. By day they worry about the maniac leader of the Minutemen, Ralph, and by night come the Vladdies - the infected. Things are not looking well for Lance, but he's determined to keep fighting until the end. Through a series of unfortunate events, Lance and co. find themselves in a camp where things could potentially be much worse than dealing with the infected.
It's going to take all of Lance's strength, courage, and smartass comments to survive this adventure.
Jason Brant brings to us yet another brilliant novel full of gust-busting humor, nail-biting thrills, and scream-worthy horror. His blend of all three of these things make Consumed a very unique novel that's worth the read.
Throughout the book I never once got bored. I actually finished reading it within a single day, that's how enthralled I was in this world of mutant vampires. The action is well done and the story is paced perfectly, never a lull. Jason's ability to create suspense and tension is magnificent and worthy of more recognition.
A noteworthy fact is that this novel was based on a short story previously written by Jason Brant titled LOTION. It was published in Apocalypse: An Anthology by Authors and Readers and featured characters in the very same apocalypse. In Consumed Jason was able to weave the two stories together in an interesting way that you'll have to read to see for yourself.
All in all, Consumed was an amazing book that all lovers of the apocalypse genre should read!

Ravaged is the third in Author Jason Brant’s The Hunger series, the one where an infection has turned everyone into bloodthirsty monsters – or Vladdies (vampires).
It’s been a few weeks since the end of Consumed (the second book in the series) and everything has fallen into relative peace. Well, “peace” isn’t the right word to use when you spend the night fighting off mutated humans who could tear your freaking head off. That “peace” is disrupted with the realization that the Vladdies are learning, growing. They aren’t done mutating, their minds starting to boot up like a computer. They’re laying traps, baiting the humans out of the light, and even communicating. With this realization comes a new wave of devastation to the main characters.
On top of it all, a small group of army men appear in the camp offering help, but Lance isn’t sure they are to be trusted. As time goes on, he learns the depth of insanity and how far someone is willing to go to make the hard decisions.
There’s a lot happening in this novel, starting right off the bat with action and horror. The intensity in this novel does not let up, not even for a second, as the survivors of this new horrific world struggle to survive with a slew of unknown variables. Jason Brant adds yet another fantastic book to his collection of published works and I cannot wait to see what he comes out with next!
A tense, fun, adventure with great characters, and great storyline. Not exactly zombies, not exactly vampires, not exactly any current being, but fearful and horrid. The end of humanity? with a lot of kindness and horror thrown in.
I've enjoyed following these characters through their trials as they are haunted by the Vladdies at every turn. Brant really paces these books and, just when you think the characters are gaining a few steps, they're pushed back by yet another turn of events.
-- DEVOURED --
This is definitely another fast-paced, action-packed thriller from the talented Jason Brant. Lance starts out as a whiny shell of a man, and for good reason. His life is in the toilet. Yet he continues to try and survive in a world consumed by monsters who go bump in the night. The story really gets interesting when Lance meets a sassy, strong female who is dead set on giving him a run for his money. Not only is Cass awesome, but she makes Lance a stronger man as their relationship they quickly develops and keeps you glued to the page while you follow them through this new world of chaos and destruction. I can't wait to find out what happens next on their journey.
-- CONSUMED --
"The sigh that escaped Lance's lips would have given anyone within earshot the wrong impression of what he was doing."
The perfect opening line, especially considering a pair of clean socks is a luxury in Lance's "new world".
I'm having a tough time putting into words just how much I enjoyed this installment of The Hunger series. Maybe it's still the book-high talking, but this story was even better than the first. The relationships shared between Lance, Cass, Doc Brown, and Eifort add to this action-packed story, leaving you holding your breath with each turn of the page.
Also, if you've read Jason's short story, Lotion (featured in the Apocalypse Anthology), then you'll definitely want to pick up both Devoured and Consumed.
Fast-paced action and raw violence have you cheering the characters on as you follow their adventure through a world full of monsters and corruption they never thought they'd have to experience in their lifetime.
Here are just a few lines that had me chuckling out loud:
"You're going to eat that thing the first time you try to shoot it." Cass shook her head at him. "Make sure you let me know when you're going to fire it so I can watch."
How the hell were they supposed to spot a pine tree in the middle of the woods?
Lance put his window down and leaned out. "Hey, Doc?" "Yeah?" "When this baby hits eighty-eight miles an hour, you're going to see some serious shit."
-- RAVAGED --
Just when I think Jason can't outdo his last book, he surprises me again. Ravaged is by far the most graphic and action packed of all the books in The Hunger series... hell, it might even be the most graphic of all his books. The plot continues to carry you through this massive pileup of sh%thole situations these characters find themselves in, and the savage behavior of both the monsters and humans seems all too realistic.
Pick it up and continue with the story about Lance and Cass. You won't be disappointed.
First of all I just want to state that I don't own the Omnibus edition but I have bought and read all three books of The Hunger by Jason Brant and you are welcome to look at my reviews under my name. With that said I sure wish I had been able to buy them in one big book, not just because you save money but because it was sheer torture waiting on each new one to come out.
In Book 1 Devoured we first met Lance who's a bit of a loser. He can't hold a job, his marriage is on the rocks and things just aren't going very well for him. During the zombie outbreak he runs into Cass who's completely awesome. She's a bit standoffish, speaks her mind and knows how to take care of herself. Together they make their way towards one of the safe zones and try to survive the mutated zombie threat.
In Book 2: Consumed Lance, Cass and their friends end up crossing paths with a crazed militant who's intent on destroying anyone he can't control. Not only do the heroes have to survive against countless zombies but also against their fellow humans.
In Book 3: Ravaged Lance, Cass and the rest are forced to make their final stand. Things are once again changing in the world and they're caught right in the middle of it all.
I love these books. I enjoy that the story just kicks right in with the action yet also has characters with a lot of depth. There is just nothing about this series that I didn't love. The tension just continually rises from the very first book all the way to the end of the last one and there were times that I had to cheat and flip ahead to make sure my favorite characters were okay and I hate cheating like that. Only the best of stories make me do that. Seriously I can't say enough good things about this series or this author. Plus this cover just rocks! Consumed starts the series out perfectly and Ravages ends it perfectly. There was literally nothing I could have wished for that would have made this series any better. The zombies or Vladdies are literally the stuff of nightmares and there were so many scenes that just had me sitting on the edge of my chair, holding my breath in dread. You're definitely going to want to sleep with a night light after reading this one.
I really enjoyed this trilogy, zombie or should that be vladdie, apocalypse stories are epic fun. This is an action packed story with nice little bit of romance thrown in... and an HEA.
wow, when you like a book you can certainly finish it in a hurry.
the emotions that I felt in that book weren't fair. I got to involved in these super likeable characters and I started caring if things happened to them. (status updates show my progression)
this books collects the 3 hunger books into a single impossible to put down book. I picked this book up thinking it was going to be a traditional zombie/monster story. it evolved into much more than that to me. it was a story of survival, hope, determination, and, most importantly, revenge. there's nothing like extracting revenge on the people who hurt you during the end of the world event.
the only negative thing I have to say is that the cover character, Cass, isn't introduced until you're well into the first book, it works but it was a little confusing.
