THE FIRST SIGNS that I might like writing -- and that I might be slightly competitive -- appeared when my year two (or first grade) teacher, Mrs. Holland, asked my class to write and illustrate our day. Mine read like this: “The Red team beat the Blue team, 1 to nil. And I won.” The next 47 entries covered my exploits on the soccer pitch while growing up in Ipswich, England.

In South Carolina as a teenager, my dad told me that I could get paid to watch sports provided I could write about it. Sounded easy enough and by the time I was 16, I landed a job at my town’s daily newspaper and had a column on Major League Baseball players from our area. I also covered my first riot there at a sporting event -- and it’s safe to say I was smitten with journalism.

After graduating from one of the best journalism schools in the country, I took a job as a sports editor in South Georgia and learned firsthand about the passion of high school sports in rural America. I thought I knew before, but I didn’t. This was another world.

I also had the opportunity to cover major sporting events like the Olympic Games, the World Series, the Super Bowl, and the Final Four. It was a thrill!

But nothing was as thrilling to me as uncovering the truth in investigative assignments. I once broke a story about a prominent southern football team’s NCAA violation -- and found out the violating coach had committed suicide only a few months earlier. The story won a national writing award and stoked my desire to write about these issues. It made me realize that the sports world was just another fantastic backdrop for drama.

After writing non-fiction books with athletes, for athletes, and ghost writing for many others, I decided to enter the world of fiction writing. It had been something I wanted to do but never found the time. So, I made the time--and had a blast in the process.

I’m not out to become the next Faulkner or Hemingway -- I’m just out to tell a good story. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them!

Superb. Brady goes dark after being accused by President Michaels about some serious things. He’s the only one who can fix it. Received a free book and voluntarily reviewed. Any Brady book is awesome as is the author.

INTO THE SHADOWS by Jack Patterson book 10 in "Brady Hawk" series
Hawk is at the top of a list that nobody wants to be on. While trekking he is trying to figure out how to get off, that list once and for all. He needed to hatch a plan to take down President Michaels, with revenge being a powerful motive. He is.corrupt, and didn't like Hawk exposing him. To be asked he is confident that his life is an opened book.
With Hawk disappearing Alex and Blunt, have gone into hiding also.
Alex starts her mornings checking her email 8 months and no word from Hawk, disappointment starts another day. Blunt asks her would she tell a lie, if it meant getting her life back. Will another mission come about successfully and the team of Firestorm be once more. I love this story, do believe it is his best, it flowed, with more of Alex and her concern for Hawk.
A great idea of how they did communicate, when needed was cleaver.
Once again we start and can't stop reading until the mission is completed.
Awaiting another story soon I hope.

Coming Home

After killing Katarina Petrov and breaking up the cabal known as The Chamber (Book 9 in the series), Brady Hawk and his Firestorm partners, J.D. Blunt and Alex are in hiding and leading separate lives in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. U.S. President Michaels, a member of The Chamber, has labeled the trio as traitors and homegrown terrorists and placed them on a world-wide Most Wanted list. After 9 months without contact, events bring them together to finally take down Michaels and end his mad schemes of assisting terrorist attacks on the U.S. to gain greater power.

As usual, the plotting is well-crafted, jumping from Oman to London to a showdown at Camp David. And Alex really comes into her own in devising a plan to get Michaels without risking Brady’s life or freedom. Characters from previous novels show up to aid the Firestorm team and move the action along. The final face-off between Brady and Michaels has some good twists and a fitting end. It also suggests a new beginning for Firestorm in upcoming books. A fast and entertaining read.

I love it waiting for new one now. I’ve enjoyed Brady Hawk series a lot I’ve read them all in order. To me their fast paced and a cant put down book he and Alex make so fun I love how they work so well together. I think this series is like David Salon series written by Ward Larsen. What’s bad I’ve read them all some twice even Mitch Rapp, Scott Harvth so this is right up in same type of novel. Real Good these authors don’t write fast enough lol. Thank you R J Patterson I’ve enjoyed all you books. Everyone should read these.

Into The Shadows. Jack Patterson

POTUS will do whatever it takes to get reelected. Murder, extorting, bribery. He's lower then low. Brady Hawk is on the run, in hiding. But not for long. The tide is turning. One of the presidents confidants, has turned against him. This is a top notch thriller of epic heights! Firestorm is back! Twists and turns to the last page! A fantastic read!

A trip down survival lane for everyone.

Great read. What a mess trying to get everything in order. People and team mates getting hurt just trying to do their jobs. Survival of the fitist both mental and muscle is the best will keep the team moving forward. Trying to bring down the outliers and then the President are the goals are the goal. What about Axes half brother, he seems to be well hidden. Answers are in the story. Move on.

In to the shadows.

Spent all day reading books 9 and 10 of the Brady Hawk series. Just couldn’t put these 2 books down. Very exciting series, it kept me wondering what was going to happen next. Can’t wait to start book 11 now.

Brady Hawk and team are off the grid, hiding from POTUS, trying to find evidence to take him down. Can they stop him from selling weapons to terrorists and being reelected or will they spend the rest of there lives in hiding and on the run.

Day of reckoning

The Presidential election is one month away and Michaels is in the lead. Firestorm is running out of options and friends, literally running for their lives!
Be nice to the folks on your way up cause you meet them on your way down and they have grudges!

Another great Brady Hawk story.

This was another killer story. Excitement coming from enemies on both sides. They don't know where they can go next. An old seal turns out to be an enemy. But the end is exciting.
