One of my most anticipated reads for 2024 and it met my expectations! I really enjoyed the second book in this series (and would still call it my favorite out of the three) so I was very excited for this one! :)
Owen did feel a bit like other male leads by this author in the way he kept sticking his foot in his mouth—particularly about her gender and the assumed characteristics of women—but it was still humorous. The sibling banter and bickering between Owen and Luella was great. Also, his Meemaw and who especially reminded me of my own Memaw. There was very little faith content which was a little disappointing, but I was glad to see the characters go to church.
This is absolutely hilarious and like every other book by this author, I found myself literally laughing out loud as I was reading this book. I would definitely say this is my favorite series by this author! Everything wraps up with a bow for these characters and while I would have liked to see the couple from the first book again, it was a very cute ending.
There was quite a bit about kissing in regards to the couples, however not much actual kissing on-page; this may alter the rating for younger teens, particularly because of the comment by Owen’s great aunt about making sure your compatible with someone (ie kissing) before you get married to each other. Not quite the message I would want to send to younger teens, but it comes across humorously and somewhat understandably because of said aunt’s marriage to a man who was “worse than a dog”.
This was overall a very fun and very entertaining read, a great ending to an enjoyable series!
*BFCG may (Read the review to see) recommend this book by this author. It does not mean I recommend all the books by this author. *I received this book for free from the Author for this honest review.
My favorite book in the Matchmaker series! It's just one of those feel good, keeps you laughing romances than can boost any mood your in. I loved the banter, the humor and the characters. One of my favorite things to read about are nosy neighbors, and this book had them all! There was so much matchmaking in this book, I think I need this character to come over to my house for a little while.
I could easily see myself re-reading this book for a mood boost or if I'm in a reading slump. This book had already graced my favorites' shelf. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
*thank you to Bethany House for a complimentary copy of this book to read. All thoughts are my own.
Let’s be real, if it’s a Jen Turano book I’m always gonna have a good time!
This story had chaos written from the first moment, and it was just a wild ride from then on. From attempted kidnappings, raccoons falling out of trees, grumpy pigs trampling tulips, rifle shootin’ grannies, apple pie recipe traditions, to romance happening all around it was a cute story!
I enjoyed Camilla’s “can do” attitude she took with every task she was given! And her fun banter with Owen was adorable.
Owen’s hiccups with women made me chuckle, and him being taken in hand by Camilla (as well as every person around) was adorable.
I wish Owen and Camilla had spent more time together on page learning about each other, but all their time with the family and friends was sweet. Especially seeing how everyone quickly felt like West Virginia was home.
It was an enjoyable story that had all the Jen Turano flair I love! 4/5 stars
*I received this book from the author**All opinions are my own*
A clean romance set in 1800s about a beautiful socialite, self-proclaimed spinster-turned-matchmatcher with a spunky attitude that gets abducted.
Not your typical damsel in distress.
And not the typical hero - this one happens to be wealthy, brawny, and from the backwoods of West Virginia.
It was good. It was ok.
The premise and beginning were cute and made me smile at times, but the storyline didn't keep my attention. The funniest chapter to me was at the very end when family members are wayyy too nosy about a romantic interaction.
I really expected to fall head-over-heels in love with this series. I've heard people gushing about it and was ready for the humor. For some reason, I wasn't amused like I thought I would be and found this book and the whole series to be too wordy in every scenario in a way that it disrupted things.
I appreciate the clean romance and that it was free from profanity.
I received a complimentary copy of this title and this is my honest opinion. :)
I think it's safe to say I laughed and swooned my entire way through this book!!!
"Why are you smiling at me?" "I normally make it a practice to smile at guests." "But the smile you're currently wearing isn't what I'd consider a pleasant one..."
This is an unexpected meet-cute + enemies to more + forced proximity + fake engagement goldmine with the best banter and main character (and even side characters, for that matter!) interactions I may have ever read. I feel like the Chesterfield family would totally approve of me saying this book is a total hoot!
Owen and his family were such comic relief that this book was 100% entertaining and enjoyable from start to finish. Owen regularly (and unintentionally) puts his foot in his mouth and Camilla has no problem teaching him about proper manners. When I tell you that every scene in this book is so solid, I mean it. I can't think of a better book to put any reader in a great mood!
I definitely think that this could be read as a stand alone, but having read all of the books in this series I highly recommend them all!!
Warning: this book may make you crave apple pie ;)
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Content: attempted kidnapping, guns/shooting (most situations are completely comical and highly entertaining), great family themes, romance-kisses only.
“It’s West Virginia. We tend to do things a little differently here…”
Before I talk about the fun of ‘New York meets West Virginia’ in Meeting Her Match, I have to talk about ‘Camilla meets Owen’. Their meet-cute could only be classified as disastrous – she mistakenly thinks he’s trying to abduct her and holds him at derringer-point; he unintentionally offends her by calling her ‘little lady’ (he thinks it’s a compliment), comparing her to his dead dog (which he also intends as a compliment), and abandoning her to a pack of angry raccoons (you’re just gonna have to read that for yourself). But disastrous for them also means it is highly entertaining for us, and it’s just the beginning of our falling in love with these two characters together. I’ve been eager to see who Camilla’s match would be, and how it would come about, and I could not have picked a more perfect hero for her than Owen. He is such a bighearted guy and, even if his good intentions often go awry and make him a bit clunky with relationships, his cluelessness is so endearing that it just ends up adding to his overall appeal like only Jen Turano can do. I loved these two as individuals and together, and their whole relationship made me smile big.
“I’m not sure, even if you were dressed in the first state of gentlemanly fashion, that a man like you could ever look like a dandy. You’re a little on the … large size.”
“Dandies aren’t large?”
“Not the most successful ones.”
Something else that made me smile big is the eclectic merging of a New York Four Hundred heiress and her entourage and bodyguards with a well-to-do (or ne’er-do-well, depending on who you ask) West Virginia family. The perhaps-unlikely friendship between these two worlds feels less unlikely for every minute they spend together until pretty soon you don’t remember why you thought it wouldn’t work out well. Because it ends up being everything delightful and hilarious and just pure joy to picture in your mind as you read. Meemaw, Nems, Aunt Elma, and Louella are down to earth and sweet as … well… apple pie (you’ll see) even if they do have a few sneaky matchmaking tricks of their own, and Lottie, Bernadette, Charles, and Leopold quickly fit right in… to the tune of “Love Is In the Air”. Even the pets find that clashing cultures can lead to some beautiful (if unconventional) friendships.
Bottom Line: In the current state of things in our world today, if a little laughter is a refreshing embrace for the soul, then Jen Turano’s Meeting Her Match is a refreshing bear hug for it. I giggled from beginning to end, as is my habit when reading a book by this author, and while I always love the supporting characters Turano employs to exacerbate the hilarity that the main characters experience, this combination of personalities is my favorite yet. Amid attempted abductions, ‘whitewarshing’ fences, etiquette lessons, angry raccoons and renegade pigs and ornery roosters, Camilla and Owen are a match made in ‘almost heaven’. Another fantastic and funny Gilded Age romantic farce from Jen Turano!
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)
This book was hilarious! I love the author’s sense of humor. As with other books by this author, I found myself laughing throughout the entire book. But not only is it funny, the story of Camilla and Owen is romantic and a little adventurous because there is a villain after Camilla in the story as well. Owen’s family, especially his Meemaw, is such fun! I love how Meemaw was convinced that Owen and Camilla would be an Enemies to lovers couple like in the books she reads. There are so many fun things happening in this story. Overall, it’s a wonderful story and I definitely recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the netgalley and the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
This Matchmaker series officially takes the cake as one of my new favourite comfort series!
I can’t pick a favourite because they were all spectacular—but Camilla’s story here might be the one I laughed hardest over. Seriously, I was cackling so. hard. All the way through trying to cook chicken in the afternoon. While in bed kicking my heels in delight. All the way through raiding the fridge for a late night snack And all the way through being chased by a large spider (long story). I was so enchanted. 😍😂
Owen, bless his heart, is a bumbling man who isn’t blessed with smooth communication with women but he’s so… perfect for Camilla. Plus, I love how Camilla can let go and be “less than perfect” around him. The humour balances out the heart so beautifully.
Okay, and Meemaw & the apple pie recipe? I totally lost it. 🤣
You know how you hate seeing a good book end? This is that book. I smiled and laughed throughout, and ended with a smile and contented sigh.
Jen's books are just fun, and WHERE does she come up with these names??? MURCHENDORFER??? Confusion and chaos and hilarity reign in this book, which I think is the best in the series. And I LOVED the other books in the series.
There's really nothing else to be said. If you want a really good laugh, get yourself this book. You could even read it as a standalone.
~I received a complimentary copy of this book. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.~
Outlandish and outrageous, "Meeting her Match" by Jen Turano concludes The Matchmaker Series with a bang! Quite literally. I lost count of the number of rifles, shotguns, colt revolvers, and derringers fired over the course of this novel. 😅
The opposites attract romance between Camilla, a prim albeit prickly heiress steeped in high society etiquette, and Owen, a chivalrous albeit clueless businessman rooted in southern charm, was a delight. Total feel-good, comfort read!
Throw in some amusing animal antics, a meddling meemaw with moxie, and the satirical juxtaposition of New York high society with the backwoods of West Virginia, and you've got a historical romance that's a hoot and a holler!
If you fancy a story where the Gilded Age meets The Beverley Hillbillies, Meeting her Match is sure to be your cup of dandelion tea!
📚 The Matchmakers Series 📖 1) A Match in the Making 📖 2) To Spark a Match 📖 3) Meeting her Match
I really loved this story, and I think it’s one of Jen’s funniest books yet.
Concerned about his rough around the edges sister, Owen Chesterfield travels from West Virginia to New York to ask Camilla to go back with him and work with his sister. After nearly being abducted, Camilla decides this is the perfect time to leave town.
Camilla has a knack for matching other couples, but after vowing she’ll never get married, the last thing she expected was to find a match for herself, especially with a man who both intrigues her and makes her want to throttle him.
What I loved: Gilded Age Dual POV Protective hero Fish out of water Crazy shenanigans The matchmaking Sparkling banter Dancing Meemaw The apple pie recipe HEA
I adored both main characters. Their chemistry was great, and the verbal push and pull between them was fabulous. I loved all the quirky secondary characters, each adding so much humor and entertainment to the story.
This book beautifully blends together romance, comedy, family drama, and even a bit of danger and action. Highly recommended for anyone who loves a fun, fast-paced, and lighthearted romance.
I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required.
After LOVING books one and two in this series, I was eagerly anticipating this, and even special ordered a copy from my favorite Christian bookstore because I was so excited to read it that I didn’t want to wait for my library to acquire a copy.
Sadly, I didn’t enjoy this one anywhere near as much as the first two books in the series, so it let me down a bit.
Unlike the first two books, which drew me into the story almost immediately, it seemed like it took this book forever to get going. A lot of the plot went in circles and it seemed like the two main leads spent most of their time rehashing the same arguments over and over ad nauseam and while I enjoyed their banter, it made the book seem repetitive.
I still enjoyed the book, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first two in the series sadly.

Story Enjoyment Rating: 8/10 Christian Faith Rating 1/3 “Meeting Her Match” is the third book in Jen Terano’s Matchmakers series and follows the story of Camila, a retired matchmaker who has sworn off marriage after a difficult heartbreak. It starts in the Hudson River Valley in the spring of 1889. The story unfolds with a comedic and suspenseful twist as Camila and her companion find themselves on the run from potential kidnappers. Enter Mr. Owen Chesterfield, a man seeking Camila’s help to refine his sister’s manners after a series of unfortunate events. Mistaking Owen for one of her pursuers, Camila finds herself entangled in a web of misunderstandings. The book explores the transformation of both Camila and Owen as they navigate their feelings and overcome personal obstacles. Initially, I found Camila’s character quite rigid and unlikeable because of her strict adherence to decorum. However, as the story progressed, she underwent a noticeable transformation, revealing a softer and more relatable side. This character development made her much more endearing as the story unfolded. The book overall was a light-hearted and enjoyable read with elements of suspense and humour. While it’s categorized as Christian fiction, the religious themes weren’t prominent. The central focus remained on the characters’ development and the blossoming romance between Camila and Owen.
From the turn of the first page, fabulous author Jen Turano will have her readers giggling. From the hilarious characters and situations and the best meet-cute, readers will not want to put this charming story down. Once again, Turano pulls readers into her historical novel not only with the beautiful history, but the beloved characters that readers will love. Another excellently written and hilarious story that will quickly capture the heart of readers.

If you enjoy historical fiction that has depth and humor, I encourage you to read a Jen Turano Book. Her latest book, Meeting Her Match, will keep you turning pages.
In Meeting Her Match, Renowned Matchmaker Miss Camilla Pierpont has vowed never to marry after heartbreak as a young woman. However, she recently meets Mr. Owen Chesterfield, who travels to see her to entice her to sponsor his sister, who needs social assistance desperately. She doesn't want to do it--until she realizes that she is in a tight spot and this may just be her way out. Camilla travels with Owen to West Virginia.
I enjoyed the nuanced humor and banter between Owen and Camilla throughout the book. I also enjoyed the secondary characters. This is a fun historical read and conclusion to the Matchmaker series. I did not read the second book, which may have made it even better, but it did not keep me from enjoying this one. If you enjoy historical fiction that has a lighter side, then I think that you will enjoy Meeting Her Match.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions within this review are my own.
Camilla and Owen's story was so interesting! I loved all the quirky characters in this book!
Camilla and her lady companion were out riding one morning. All of a sudden highwaymen were approaching them! They wanted to kidnap Camilla. They needed to escape quickly. Camilla had a derringer underneath her riding outfit and was trying to get that out to protect them. To their amazement, another man on horseback came to their rescue. At first, Camilla and her friend thought this gentleman was up to "no good."
Owen was good with animals and children, but lacking in social skills around women. He misspoke many times to Camilla. It was hilarious at the faux pax he made! I had a lot of laughs while reading this story!
Camilla got into many comic circumstances throughout this book. I heartily enjoyed how this author described events!
Camilla was a New York Society woman. Owen was a successful businessman from West Virginia. His family was not society. You can imagine how two people from different backgrounds would respond to each other!
Camilla was a great matchmaker even though she was a young woman and never married. Many men were attracted to her beauty and wanted to get their hands on her money as she was a wealthy heiress. Not so with Owen. He did not need her money because he was a successful business owner.
I highly recommend this book and any book written by Jen Turano. She has quite a flair in her style of writing!
Although this is the third book in the series, I didn’t have any trouble jumping into this novel without having read the earlier books.
Meeting Her Match had plenty of the humorous situations and witty banter that the author is known for in her books. It was fun to see these two main characters resisting the idea that they should be a match together, while everyone else could easily see how well they were paired. Yet, as time passed, they both began to like the idea of being together more and more.
The first half of the book moved a little slowly for me, but it really picked up after the halfway point. I especially liked Camilla and Owen’s characters. They were definitely my favorite, with Camilla having vowed to never marry and Owen always seeming to misread how to woo a lady.
This is a fun book that I recommend for those who enjoy witty humor and characters who find themselves in a variety of funny situations.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Once I started reading Meeting Her Match, I did not want to put it down!!!
"Because you keep claiming you're not prickly, and I seem to derive a great deal of satisfaction from proving you are."
Camilla and Owen meet in dire circumstances, with Owen immediately lighting a match to Camilla's temper (which she vehemently denies having!) I absolutely loved their banter and watching their relationship develop.

I loved everything about this book. It had a great story line, wonderful characters, and it left me with a happy sigh, while also wanting more. I enjoyed the whole series, but I think this was my favorite of them all.
Thank you to Bethany House for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Jen Turano is known for her humor and witty banter dialogue. She wraps up The Matchmakers series with this novel in which a New York 400 heiress goes to West Virginia to take a case in giving etiquette lessons.
Camilla Pierpont ends up far from her New York world into the blue collar world of West Virginia. There she finds friends and real life. Her witty banter with Owen keeps you smiling...and waiting for that kiss at the end. A cast of secondary characters makes it even more enjoyable without being stuffy because that's really not Camilla as she finds a new world she can live in.
Shenanigans, mayhem, and jokes abound. Each novel can stand alone, but it'd be more enjoyable to read them in order.
Oh my goodness, I think this is Jen’s funniest book yet! I giggled through the whole story. The mix of eccentric and hilarious characters and the story itself made this an absolute joy to read. I can’t wait for the audiobook to release because it will be hysterical to listen to. I will be buying audiobook as soon as it becomes available and it will be an immediate listen. A fantabulous read!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher and was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.
The storyline was cute enough. But the heavy handed use of explanation in dialogue and characters thinking out loud brought me out of the story with its outlandish and unrealistic conversation. It can be amusing if one character talks that way. But when every character has a "witty" diatribe full of superlatives, absolutes and "captain obvious" comments it quickly loses its charm.
I love how Jen Turano's books always keep me guessing what hilarious situations might occur next. This one takes characters through their fair share of unique mishaps, which definitely made me laugh. There's also a dash of suspense that adds a good layer of intrigue!
As for the romance, I really enjoyed the opposites-attract/enemies-to-more story. This pairs Camila, a high-society lady, with Owen, a slightly awkward businessman with country-life roots. Their clashing personalities and occasional misunderstandings create some very entertaining conversations.
Owen's family is also quite interesting - although a certain relative brings kissing into conversations a bit too frequently for my taste. (The romance does remain clean, though, which I appreciate!) The faith content is also lighter than I typically prefer, but I definitely still enjoyed this story and would recommend it as a fun, summer read!
*Content to note* .....May contain spoilers..... Mention of superstitions (no specifics, except for family's gifting of a recipe, which could be seen as superstition or tradition). Character is held captive; brief discussion of spousal mistreatment.
I loved the sweet-swoony-slow burning romance between Camilla and Owen. Not only was there romance for the main characters, but befitting a story about a matchmaker, romance was in the air for multiple couples. There were also numerous animals attempting to upstage the humans in so many funny situations. As I’ve come to love with this author, there were many laugh out loud moments with a bunch of wonderfully quirky characters. In addition to witty banter and lots of romance, I was caught up in the mystery and villainy of the people intent on harming Camilla.
I received this book complimentary as a member of the author’s launch team. I was not required to give a positive review. All of the opinions I have expressed here are honest and my own.
This book is an absolute delight! One thing that can always be counted on when reading books by Jen Turano is that you'll be laughing until your sides ache! I thoroughly enjoyed the setting of West Virginia with its charming ways.
The characters are relatable and easy to like! I adore Camilla! She's adaptable, compassionate, loving, and able to laugh at herself! I love every single member of the Chesterfield family. They love wholeheartedly! They're also a bunch of rifle toting spitfires!
It goes without saying that I'll be reading more books by this author. What better gift than laughter!
Sweet and funny inspirational historical romance set in the Gilded Age. Camilla and Owen’s story can be read without reading the previous books in the series. Loved the older characters, Beulah, Elma and Mr Timken. Although you can predict the ending, it was a fun read!
Meeting her Match is the third and last book in the Matchmakers Series, and it’s about Miss Camilla Pierpont, who is well know for her matchmaking, but has vowed to never marry after a devastating heartbreak. Owen Chesterfield is wealthy and brilliant in business but lacks finesse when it comes to ladies. Yet for his family’s sake he’s determined to get Camilla to agree to help his sister wrangle her wild ways and be presented to society. Knowing her life is in danger, Camilla agrees to Owen’s proposition and travels with him to West Virginia, finding herself charmed by the less-than-formal attitude of his small hometown, as well as by Owen himself. As danger lurks in the shadows, and with the help of some well meaning meddling older ones, could Camilla just make a spectacular match-her own?
I loved that this book took us out of the usual society settings of the 400 like New York and into wild new territory! Fun fact this summer I went on a road trip with my family and we drove thru Wheeling! I hadn’t been to West Virginia in nearly 20 years! Owen’s family is so much fun! It was refreshingly funny. I loved getting to see Camilla in a different light, she is a lady through and through but tough too. This story keeps the pages turning with engaging dialogue, that will have you laughing till your sides hurt, wonderful characters you fall in love with, unexpected twists, disastrous meet-cutes and happenings.

Meeting Her Match by Jen Turano had me smiling, smirking, laughing, and eagerly flipping pages. Camilla Pierpont, a matchmaker who’s sworn off love, crosses paths with the blunt and fascinating Owen Chesterfield after a near-abduction that turns her life upside down. What follows is an adventure brimming with humor, banter, and unexpected twists that kept my heart engaged from start to finish.
Camilla and Owen's interactions are a real highlight—sharp, witty, and downright delightful. Their chemistry builds naturally, with each exchange crackling with energy. The contrast between Camilla's polished sophistication and Owen's unfiltered honesty not only keeps things lively but also adds a layer of depth that makes their connection feel all the more rewarding. Throw in a meddling Meemaw, quirky townsfolk, and a pet pig that effortlessly steals the spotlight, and you’ve got a story bursting with charm.
Turano masterfully weaves in themes of healing and forgiveness without losing the lighthearted tone. Both Camilla and Owen are carrying the weight of past hurts and watching them slowly open their hearts to love again is not just touching—it’s uplifting. Their journey feels real, and their growth resonates in a way that left me both laughing and teary-eyed.
If you’re seeking a read that balances humor with genuine emotion, Meeting Her Match is an absolute delight. Jen Turano’s ability to craft a story that’s both fun and meaningful makes this a book I’ll be recommending to everyone I know—and re-reading for years to come.
I received a paperback copy of Meeting Her Match from the publisher. I am not required to write a positive review in any way or for any reason. Jen Turano always tickles my funny bone with her hilarious meet-cutes, animal antics, and colorful characters. Camilla is done with matchmaking, but cannot help herself when the obvious presents itself. Due to her rescuing the reputation of Adelaide Duveen, she is tasked with re-introducing Luella Chesterfield into good favor in Wheeling, West Virginia society. This serves another purpose which is to hide from George the cad, and a crime boss from New York. There are many opportunities for comical scenes with cat, dog and pig chasing, gun toting grandmas and not a few manipulations from the older generation. Just where will that Apple Pie recipe end up next! Add to that the bad guys who are after the heiress Camilla, and the hero, Owen, gets to shine. With madcap mayhem, this was a priceless, refreshing romp with many matchmaking attempts, witty banter and some almost kisses to finally kisses. If you are looking for good fun look no further! Match up with the high society matchmaker Camilla and wealthy businessman Owen with his quirky family. *I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House and from NetGalley. Hilarious! Absolutely hilarious. This is a true rom-com, where our favorite matchmaking city-girl, darling of the New York 400, takes on a reputation rehabilitation case in the backwoods of West Virginia. She soon finds herself sucked into a large family of adorable, gun-toting, and wealthy rednecks. It’s a book full of crazy antics, witty banter, and a great deal of heartwarming family fun.
I loved this book and laughed my way through. It has a movie-like quality to it, more focused on the quirky cast of characters and comedic scenes than in-depth relationship development. Not that the relationships felt underdeveloped, only that you watch rather than experience them… if that makes sense.
I admit, there is one stretch (specifically 67-82%) that becomes a little less entertaining and productive than the rest. Certainly not enough to shake the 5-star rating, but noteworthy all the same.
Content: There is no foul language or sex. There is some violence, but it’s not excessive. The romance is limited to lightly descriptive kisses. There are a couple scripture references, but no real message of faith or God.
Trigger warning - a female character is abducted and held for ransom. She is not abused or treated poorly.
