The Finniverse Series

Finn and the Subatomic Slip-and-Slide

Rate this book
From the New York Times bestselling author of The Sisters Grimm and The Weirdies comes the third and final book in this wildly imaginative middle-grade adventure series with aliens, robots, and an epic battle for earth that might just be won with a slip-and-slide!

After his adventures through time, Finn returns home to a world he doesn’t recognize. Changing the past has created an all-new present, one in which he and his friends never vanquished the Plague. Now the giant bugs rule Earth from their spaceship! What’s an intergalactic traveler to do? The answer is obvious. Finn, Lincoln and Julep must defeat the Plague. Again.

But how? Julep and Lincoln don’t remember Finn or their friendships. In fact, they’ve changed just as much as the world itself has, and they want nothing to do with his dangerous plan to save humankind. Finn’s plan? Find his father, Asher Foley, who is trapped on a microscopic world known as the Subatomic. Using a space-age slip-and-slide, Finn and his confused former-friends shrink themselves to enter this strange new world where nothing is as it seems, hoping to find his father, the one man who can put history, and the present, back together.

It won’t be easy. The Subatomic is ruled by an evil menace with an army of hulking robots under his command. Even worse, Finn’s bitterest enemy, the Plague soldier Sin Kraven, is in pursuit. Can Finn find his father, save his friendships, and return to Earth in time to stop the Plague?

In this middle grade science fiction thriller Finn Foley is determined to find his missing father, Asher, especially since the world he's living in is confusing and his friends Lincoln and Julep no longer remember him at all. He's all too aware that the changes he made in the past, most notably insuring that Lincoln's mother didn't die, have had repercussions for the present and the future. The Plague covers the Earth, and the giant bugs he thought he had defeated are firmly in charge. With help from an inventor friend, Finn uses a slip-and-slide device to visit a subatomic world where he hopes to find his father. But as he receives help from others and heads to Quarkhaven where a cruel taskmaster named Proton lives, there are several hints that all is not well and that Finn is in the surprise of his life. With support from his lunchbox and a robot named Highbeam, Finn fights hard against all the odds stacked against him. Fans of the previous three books will enjoy this one, which ties up several loose ends. While the technical and futuristic aspects of the tale are interesting enough, the storyline also contains several humorous moments concerning Lincoln's reluctance to help Finn on his desperate quest. There are plenty of laughs as well as almost nonstop action in these pages. I wish there had been more from Julep since her character is so promising.

With the help of his friends, Julep and Lincoln, Finn is trying to rescue his father who has gone sub atomic.
They need to destroy the Plaque. A slip and slide, a unicorn lunchbox and the robot, Highbeam are their weapons to bring Finn’s Dad back home to the family.
This is an action packed adventure which will keep the reader’s attention. It is humorous and will appeal to not only science fiction readers but anyone wanting an adventure read!

Book 2 is still my favorite in the series, mostly because it had time travel. This book was a little better than book 1, but not by much. I really enjoyed the trilogy. I hope he writes more in the Finniverse, but these books conclude an arc and there needn't be more.

This series is great for kids and adults who listen with their kids. Love the story and the narrator of the audio versions.
