Rate this book
An arrogant lord cut off by his family. A penniless widow in desperate need. In their reduced circumstances, can love save them both?

Lord Neil Duncan, third son of the Marquess of Alderton, finally angers his father enough to be cut off from the family. Neil believes it is only a matter of time before he is reinstated, but time is passing slowly and he needs to eat. His so-called friends have abandoned him, no one else trusts him, and it is not until he comes upon a young widow that he finds someone who needs his help as badly as he needs hers.

Teresa Clapham has been without a husband's provision and protection for over a year. Supporting her mother and daughter on the pittance her brother-in-law provides has required her to stretch every farthing. When Lord Neil arrives at her doorstep proposing he work for her to earn his keep, she sees possibility in the man everyone else has deemed an arrogant good-for-nothing.

As Lord Neil works for the first time in his life, Teresa sees in him a tender heart long repressed by his family's expectations - a heart that causes her own to open once more. But her brother-in-law John Clapham is less charmed by Teresa’s new servant. When Lord Neil discovers the secret Mr. Clapham has been keeping, he must decide whether to embrace the man Teresa believes him to be, or fall back on the privileged lifestyle he’s always known.

This was another pleasant read. Just pleasant, nothing more unfortunately.

Lord Neil was not really a villain in previous books. He was a nuisance in the first one, but his redemption started in Hope's book and he was an ally in Isaac's. So by the time we get to his book there are barely any hard feelings left.

It was nice to watch a nobleman having to work on a farm and I could think of a few rich guys who could use such a wakeup call, but I didn't feel much reading this book.

The lack of feelings is my biggest problem with this series. The writing is good and the story flows, but there is not enough chemistry. I don't mind clean romance, that's what I was looking for, but these books are cleaner than the floor in floor cleaner commercials😭

I love when you finish a book and you just sigh in happiness. I actually paused halfway threw this book and thought about it while I did other things, I just didn't want it to end too soon! Neil is a character we met a couple a books ago and man did we think he was a jerk or what. Then you get this little hint at the end he might not be. Ahhh the complex character. No cookie cutter characters in these books. Then we see him in the next book grow and change a little more and you begin to see he is not a bad guy but his whole family is full of people who just treat him like he is less and he has been surrounded by immorale behavior his whole life! It's a wonder this guy has goodness left in him. These are the kinds of people who fasinate me, who rise from what they have been taught and learn better. I was so looking forward to this book. It started out slow and in a way I did not expect at all. I loved meeting the leading lady and her sweet family and I loved watching Neil learn what a good man he was. Such a good ending to the Inglewood series.

If you've been following this Inglewood series then you'll know that Lord Neil isn't the most sought after and loved character. But in Engaging Sir Isaac, I started to have a different perspective of Lord Neil and wondered if there was more depth and goodness to him than first meets the eye.

I was very excited to listen to this audiobook and dive into Neil's story. I loved seeing deeper into his character and personality and what makes him tick. Let me tell you that I was not disappointed at all! I loved it. It all made me so happy. Ok, there were some other emotions involved, as is usually when I read and listen to books. Lol! Some frustration, a few "grrrrrs" were heard out of my mouth, many giggles, a few sighs and possibly a few other emotions and sound effects. What can I say other than I am an involved reader. I get invested in my characters and can't help but cheer them on and tell them what I think and react emotionally while reading/listening.

Teresa's story pulled at my heart and made me feel several of the above mentioned emotions as well. She was such a great character. I appreciated her goodness and strength and fierce loyalty and love for her family. I loved that she took a chance on Lord Neil and accepted his help and offered help in return. Their sweet story of friendship and finding love was tender and sweet. There were moments of sadness too but overall I just adored these two. I was so happy to learn that he was more than what he appeared to be in the previous books. I find that's so true in real life as well. We only see and perceive certain things about each other but when we really truly take the time to learn more about each other we have a greater understanding and better perception.

There's some sleuthing and lots of character growth throughout this story as well as the budding friendship and romance. How the book finished and everything was tied up just made me smile and cheer for these characters! Loved it! The narrator was wonderful. I've loved how she's brought Sally Britton's characters to life and takes me back to Inglewood every time I hear her voice when I start each book. Well done!

Content: Clean.

Happy Reading!!!

Even though Lord Neil played the villain in the first book of the series, Rescuing Lord Inglewood, in the fourth book, Engaging Sir Isaac, he started to grow on me when he proved himself a friend to Millicent. I was thrilled to learn that he'd get his own story where he is the hero! He experiences a jarring transition from total dependence on his father to complete independence- and all the responsibility that comes with it. At first glance he doesn't seem like he would be able to provide for himself, but his newfound humility combined with memories of manual labor as punishments in his youth give him the determination to be useful and no longer a freeloader. I appreciated that while he discovers the satisfaction of a hard day's work, the author realistically portrayed his mental and physical struggles as he becomes accustomed to the lifestyle of a farmhand. The compassion and friendship Teresa and her family offer are priceless to him and his self confidence grows with Teresa's belief in him and reassurances that he is a good man, that this is his true nature despite who he was before. Even with the lovely attraction that blooms between them, Teresa doesn't feel ready for a romantic relationship, especially with someone who is only a temporary presence in her life. She is still working through complicated feelings of grief for her beloved husband, who her brother-in-law claims drained her resources with a secret gambling problem. I loved the protective nature of Neil when he becomes the champion of Teresa against her brother-in-law. His character goes through a complete 180 with what he values in life and that change in perspective opens his future up wide to something he never would have imagined. A wonderful story of redemption and my new favorite villain-turned-hero!

I enjoyed this latest addition to the Inglewood series because the characters were heartfelt and the plot felt refreshing.

It's not strictly necessary for someone to have read the preceding 4 books in this series, but they do add a lot of context for Lord Neil and his need to reform. In the past, he's been selfish and indolent. But in this book, he's sunk about as low as he can when he's suddenly cut off by his family. In order to merely survive, he becomes dependent on the kindnesses of others, most particularly Teresa Clapham, a widow eking out a living for herself, her mother, and her daughter on their inherited farm.

There's a villain, of course, in the shape of Teresa's greedy brother-in-law. Although that part of the plot was essential for resolving Teresa's situation, it felt a bit unbelievable that her brother-in-law would continue to meddle in her life when it was so much to his interest to let sleeping dogs lie. Fortunately, his appearances are few and his presence doesn't clutter up the story too much.

I enjoyed the reappearance of two of the other couples from the Inglewood series, and there was a nice resolution to the relationships from the very first book.

I liked that this Regency romance was a step removed from the ballrooms and game-playing between men and women so often seen in this genre. Poverty, hard work, and difficult family dynamics strip away all the facades in this story and create room for feelings that are genuine and important. I sped through the second half, eager to see how the author would create a happy ending for two characters that deserved it. I would recommend it!

4.5 Stars, this is a great story of redemption and a fabulous ending to the Inglewood series! I am so glad that author Sally Britton gave us Lord Neil's story. From the first book in the series, Rescuing Lord Inglewood, Lord Neil came across as a villain and definitely a character to dislike. Throughout the series, particularly by the fourth book Engaging Sir Isaac, readers could sense something was changing within the man and I am so glad this book showed us what that was. I had a huge compassion for Lord Neil as his backstory was revealed and appreciated that he worked hard to change and learned to love. His story didn't come together as I would have expected, but I enjoyed being surprised throughout the story. Teresa and Caroline were wonderful characters and I love the use of animals to also help the plot unfold. Neil's story teaches us the power of love and forgiveness and what it means to truly be happy. I was also super happy that Silas and Esther were in this book and I feel like there was a great resolution to their history I just loved. In fact, this book left me wanting to revisit the entire series.
I definitely enjoyed reading this clean, sweet Regency romance, and recommend this and the entire series.

When I saw that Lord Neil was book 5 in this series, I wasn’t all that enthused. He wasn’t exactly portrayed as a likable character in the earlier books. But book 4 started to change my perception of him and this book confirmed that he could indeed be reformed. I wound up enjoying the series finale.

This one was lovely! For Neil's transformation was awesome and felt realistic. Her heroine was easy to like, and the conflict felt genuine and was woven throughout very well.
A sweet and clean romance.

Reforming Lord Neil was such a wonderful novel! I listened to the audio book and the narrator did a fabulous job. The Inglewood series is definitely one of my favorite Regency series that I have read!

I did not like Lord Neil in book one of the series. He made a nice gesture in book two that surprised me. But it was in book four, the novel before this one, that I began to wonder about him. He had depths that I had not seen before and showed kindness to the heroine of that novel when no one else in his family was doing so. But, it is in this fifth novel that the reader gets to understand the way Lord Neil was raised and how he was treated growing up. And Neil has to step out on his own and finally become his own man. I really enjoyed the growth in his character. He became a truly worthy hero indeed.

Teresa was a likable main character, too. She showed herself to be a strong woman, willing to work hard on her little farm to support her daughter and mother. The connection that grew between Neil and Teresa was perfect. They had great romantic chemistry and many hurdles to overcome before they could find happiness together.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This is my least favorite book in the series.
.
I thought I wanted to know about Neil after his appearances in previous books, but it turned out that there wasn't enough of a backstory for him for me to be invested enough to listen to a 8+ hour audiobook about him.
.
I did enjoy the side characters and the cameos by characters from earlier books.
.
The audiobook narrator is supberb!

Oh wow! Can it be possible?! I think this might actually be my favourite book out of the Inglewood series yet! I had an inkling that I was going to enjoy Lord Neil’s character from the last book but Britton exceeded my expectations! I love how well done this book was. You DEFINITELY have to read the previous books in the series... ALL of them! Because Lord Neil first appears right at the beginning and each book he appears in is referred back to in this one. Honestly, it fills out the background for his character and how his reform starts well before this one, so you won’t regret it - plus they are fantastic stories! I loved them all.
I know I go on a lot about character development with all of my reviews but seriously people, this is important! If the characters aren’t developed properly they appear as very 1-dimensional. Like the words just written on the page. But a well developed character, comes to life in any receptive imagination! They start to feel like friends and acquaintances. I love it when this happens. Britton does an excellent job of this. Plus - clean and wholesome with still all the joy and excitement and suspense a romance can bring. Perfectly balanced humour and wit throughout. Sigh. What’s not to love in a reformed bad-boy who is actually, secretly, very kind and caring along with a lady who is spirited and strong-willed despite having trials thrown at her constantly and villains trying to crush her at every opportunity?

I can definitely recommend this book... Along with the entire series! Plus, I’m hoping that one day we’ll also get to read Cara’s story 😉😁

While this can be read on it's own as a standalone, I personally don't recommend doing so. I think I enjoyed it so much because of the history I have with Lord Neil throughout the series. He's that character pictured as both a villain and a friend in the first four books, depending on the perspective. He's slyly heroic and searching for happiness in not quite the right places.
At the beginning of Reforming Lord Neil, he is as one would expect his character to be from reading the others: self-absorbed, lackadaisical, and intentionally dependent on his father's title and money. When he's cut off, Neil finds himself with nowhere to go and no one to champion his cause, at the mercy of a widow with her own set of financial woes.
Teresa Clapham has little prospects beyond a dilapidated farm to manage with her mother and daughter after her brother-in-law coerces her to leave the life she has for over 10 years. When Neil Duncan arrives on her doorstep, she accepts his help in exchange for room and board.
I love redemption stories and big opportunities for character growth. I also love that Neil's transgressions and actions from Rescuing Lord Inglewood are addressed. As much as I wish this series would continue, it ends very satisfactorily.

A very pleasant, if undemanding read. Neil is such a nice guy, it’s hard to understand why he has no friends or relatives that would assist him when his father throws him out in a fit of pique. The motives behind the Marquess’ actions is never truly explained though it is implied that it is because he is not his actual father. News to Neil apparently.

So thrown out without a penny or his things, he ends up offering to work for room and board for a poor widow on her farm. Teresa’s husband died in an accident a year and a half ago, leaving her penniless. Her brother-in-law has been actively unhelpful, so she and her widowed mother and her 12 year old daughter have no servants to assist so they perform all the house and farm work. Neil’s assistance, though he is inexperienced, is a tremendous help.

There is some foul play with Teresa’s estate that Neil is able to obtain assistance with. Supposedly, Neil has been transformed by his experience. I could not see evidence of that as he is immediately and continuously thoughtful and helpful. But it wraps up with a very pleasant HEA.

Ever since reading the first book in the series I wondered if Lord Neil would get his own story. And while I loved the story I had no idea that the change in Lord Neil would be this drastic. His whole personality changed for the better. It was hard to see the lazy Lord in him. However, the change in him did start gradual through the other books in the series. Teresa and her daughter Caroline we’re both sweet characters as well as Teresa’s mother. They are the perfect examples of kindness and goodness. They rescued Lord Neil as surely as he helped to rescue him or as surely as the other characters in the rest of the series saved others from death or ruination. Over all this was another great book by Sally.

I read this when it was first released and just listened to it. I enjoy this narrator. It made the story as enjoyable the second time as the first. Lord Neil was a character I wanted to see have his own story nearly from the start of the series. And Mrs Clapham was such a wonderful character.

NOT EXAGGERATING BUT I CRIED. THE STORY IS UTTERLY BEAUTIFUL.

I know what it feels to be accepted as a person :) and had a chance to redeem one’s self for his mistakes.

This is my second read from the Inglewood series tho I haven’t read the other books aside from Discovering Grace and Reforming Lord Neil but I know what mistakes Neil did from the past. I love how he became a better version of himself and finds his true worth. His character development really made him into a man...

and Teresa! who didn’t judge Neil from his past but instead saw him for what he is. They were really made for each other!! what I find amusing is that Neil used to be a lazy lord and busy flaunting himself but then he became the a humble man and chose to live a rather peaceful life.

There’s nothing I love more than i character doing a complete 180! That’s exactly what we’ve seen Lord Neil begin to do in the last book, and the full transformation complete right here.

I enjoyed everything about the story, all of main characters are endearing. I would have loved to see just a little bit more of a threat from Frederick, it almost didn’t seem quite concerning even after the truth is revealed. There is a certain level of security knowing that whatever Frederick might be bringing, that Lord Neil can handle any of it - so it could have been explored a bit more.

Overall, a touching tale and a nice way to bring happiness and acceptance to his character.

As the third son of the Marquess of Alderton, Lord Neil Duncan has lived a life of leisure, without purpose, never taking a thought to his future and living off of his allowance, that is, until his cruel father casts him out with only the clothes on his back. Penniless and without any friends willing to risk the wrath of the Marquess, Neil finds himself at a farm in the English countryside, owned by Mrs. Teresa Clapham.

Teresa has a hard story of her own, as when her husband died, he left she and her daughter with no funds left to live on, and so along with Teresa's mother, the three of them have tried to eek out a living on an inherited farm. Gentlewomen, having never had to lift a hand for themselves before the change in their circumstances, Neil is incredibly impressed with how hard they work and how little they complain. He and Teresa then make an agreement for him to work for her in exchange for room and board. And it is through hard work, that Neil's heart and life is changed for the better.

Such a great story of redemption, and a sweet and clean romance. It was a great conclusion to the series. (Also, to really understand his transformation, you really need to read books 1 and 4.)

I’ve loved every book in this series, but this one was my favorite. I love a story where a character we didn’t like in earlier books redeems himself. It fills one with such hope! Lord Neil is disowned by his father and sent from the house without any money. He wanders around England wearing the dinner clothes he was wearing when forced to leave. Along the way he meets Mrs Clapham, a widow living on a farm with her mother and daughter. This is such a story of redemption. I want to live on the farm with them. The audiobook is wonderfully narrated. Read the series in order for the most enjoyment. I highly recommend it!.

Ah, the grand finale of the series. And what a finale it is. I have heard such high praise about this book, and it definitely deserves it. If you are going to read this book, I strongly recommend you read the series in order! Lord Neil goes from bad guy in book one to nice guy in this book. I loved watching how much Lord Neil has changed. I love his character, especially in this book. As for the romance, Neil and Teresa are such a great couple. I loved how they went from she is the boss, and he is employee relationship to romantic. He is such a nice guy and treats little Caroline (Teresa's daughter) so well. I love their relationship. By the way we get more from them in "Romancing the Artist". This is my favorite of the series! Also I listened to the audiobook version and she does such a great job! Absolutely loved it and I definitely recommend!

I loved this audiobook version of the book. The narrator’s pacing was perfect as well as capturing each of the characters way of speaking.

Lord Neal has been one of my favorite characters through this series, and I am so glad he got his happily ever after with the sweet widow. This story of a man who truly needed someone to believe in him is a trope that I love to read. It was so rewarding to see that Neal was capable of so much more than he thought of himself.

I highly recommend reading/ listening to this book. It was delightful and readers of all ages will enjoy it.

Reforming Lord Neil by Sally Briton
Teresa Clapham's husband died. She could not stand her brother-in-law. He rude and said awful things about her husband to them. She had inherited a small farm from an aunt. The three ladies lived there. They had given everything up and hoped to live on what they made. Lord Neil had a fight with his father and had been kicked out. He left his mother and sister there. His father was the Marquess of Alderton and quite an unlikeable man. Neil was the third son and did not plan to inherit. His father wanted him to seduce a married woman so he could increase his political power. Neil and Teresa meet at her farm. He is wondering, trying to find a place to hang his hat. He has been rejected by all. So he comes up with the idea that he can help Teresa on her farm for only a bed and food. She agrees.
A lovely story about the Clapham family and Lord Neil. How they help each other and start to heal the lies and deceit that has come their way. The characters are warm and friendly. The tale has a strong plot. So many things happen, but Their struggles are far from over. I highly recommend this wonderful book.

I have read all the books in this series thus far and I do believe this is my favorite. I am finding that I really like redemption stories and this is definitely a story of redemption. Having met Lord Neil in previous books, I saw that there was more to him than was let on by the other characters, but he definitely deserved his redemption.

Teresa also deserved a bit of redemption and Lord Neil helped her to it even before she fully knew who he was. She and her mother and daughter were put in their position due to the “generosity” of her late husband’s brother.

The story was captivating, I could hardly put it down, and the characters were enchanting. I love the way Sally Britton weaves her stories. It was wonderful to see loved characters from earlier books and see the relationships develop. I would recommend this for a beautiful escape.

5 ⭐️ What a reformation! There is a difference between reformation and redemption— it’s rare to find a book in a series that transitions a side character into a main character that has previously been defined. It was a true joy to reconsider Lord Neil and to see all the edges and angles of his character.

I would highly recommend this book but you really should read it last! Don’t do Lord Neil the disservice of skipping his appearances in the previous books of this series. I really believe his story is made better by first glimpsing him through the other books. You may find you like him, hate him, or love him. You may find yourself curious about him. Maybe you will find yourself agreeing with other the characters opinions.
