Rate this book
With Paul Noble’s simple, relaxed approach you will learn in a way that suits you – without having to memorise long lists of words you won’t use, scribbling notes as you listen, or feeling frustrated. Instead, Paul will introduce you to the basics of the Italian language and guide you through over 13 hours of everyday scenarios – from simple situations like asking for directions and eating out to talking about yourself and how to master the different tenses – that are practical, fun, and applicable. Just listen, interact, and learn wherever you are.

Whatever your experience with languages, whether you’re an absolute beginner or someone with basic knowledge who wants to improve their ability, this is the course to get you speaking Italian quickly and confidently.

A native-speaking Italian expert will help you to perfect your pronunciation as you progress through the course. You will learn a huge range of vocabulary in no time at all, and be able to quickly make your new knowledge work for you in a variety of everyday scenarios. A downloadable booklet is also included to use as a reference and revision tool.

Paul Noble left school unable to speak a language – having found that the traditional learning methods left him feeling ‘confused, incapable and unable to really say anything’. Determined that there must be a better way to learn, Paul spent years devising his own unique method of learning languages which cuts out all the grammar, all the memorisation, and all the stress. He began using his method to teach in his Language Institute and, thousands of students later, he prides himself on never having had a student fail.

This download contains the entire course – Parts 1, 2, and 3. To continue your language learning journey once you’ve completed this course, download Next Steps in Italian with Paul Noble for Intermediate Learners – Complete Course.

This is structured in a very similar way to Paul Noble's Spanish audiobook. I really enjoy the way this course works. Before you know it, you are speaking sentences confidently in the new language. For me, language learning is visual too, and of course these courses can't provide that.

My only other reservation is that to the best of my knowledge, the pronunciation of the Italian 'r' and 'rr' is very much the same as in the Spanish, yet the woman speaking the Italian in this course doesn't model these 'rules' at all.

Knowing some French and Spanish really helps, but at the same time it can get confusing. There are a myriad similarities and differences among these languages.

I've already started listening to this a second time.

This is my first foray into learning a foreign language (ashamedly, at 42) and wish I had listened to this sooner. uniquely taught concepts, perfectly pased. When the narrator says you don't need to remember everything as you go through, he'd right because he revisits time and time again in an encouraging and enjoyable way. A highly way to learn the basics or Italian.

Slow and repetitive to the point of being patronising. Nonetheless, a good starter kit for Italian, especially if combined with a decent textbook and an app or two (I'm enjoying LingQ).

I’ve tried them all and Paul Noble’s are the best. By far. No other even comes close.

I'm preparing for a trip to Italy in a few months and want to learn as much Italian as I can, that's how I happened upon this audiobook! I did not have the accompanying booklet, which would likely be useful.

What I like about the book/course:
He uses a native Italian speaker to pronounce words and phrases so we always hear proper pronunciation.
He teaches essential words and phrases - dates/times, food/dining, hotel, travel, medical, tourist information etc.
New material is repeated multiple times during the lesson, and then incorporated throughout the other lessons, this gives the learner ample exposure and decreases the pressure for rote memorization.
Paul does a great job explaining language structure and grammar rules, the starts basic and gets more complicated, during the last 2 hours he spends a fair amount of time covering exceptions to grammar rules.
The course is 13 hours, which is said to be about the equivalent of one semester worth of material. I have taken language classes in the college setting and believe I have learned as much or possibly more than one semester.
The final 34 minutes is a FAST review of all material learned in the book. Once you complete the entire course, it is helpful to listen to the review a few times as well.

What I didn't like:
As far as I know he does not offer a more advanced course for Italian, and this book is absolutely geared towards beginners with no exposure to Italian. Now I want to move to a slightly more complicated course. If he does have one someone please let me know!

This is an amazing audio course to take if you are interested in learning Italian grammar. This course teaches you how to conjugate verbs in present, past, and future tense, as well as first person, second person, and third person pronouns. The only problem that some people may have with it, is that it doesn't teach you much vocabulary. The majority of the words you learn, you use in different contexts and are often words that resemble their English counterparts in some way. I honestly believe this was a deliberate choice, as the main focus of the course seemed to be to teach grammar, and it did that very efficiently. If there were too many words to memorise and focus on, then it would make it more difficult to focus on the lessons being taught.

Another thing to note is that it can feel repetitive at some times. Again, this is deliberate I believe, because it really works to help you remember different rules and sentences. It got to the point that I could often clean or cook while listening to this course and automatically respond with my answer without really reflecting on it. And that's what most people are aiming towards.

I'm excited about picking up the Next Steps course in September. For anyone who is just starting out in Italian and is eager to learn quickly, then I'd definitely recommend this course.

Welp, I started this audio book in preparation for a trip to Italy that was cancelled due to the outbreak of COVID-19. I did listen to it all the way through and found the course very fun and engaging. I loved that he used a native Italian speaker to pronounce words and phrases, that he teaches the travel essential vocabulary and that new material is repeated numerous times during the lesson and then is incorporated throughout other lessons. It really helps ingrain the material into your brain!

I will revisit my review and this audio book once I am able to rebook our trip and actually can test out speaking the language!

This can get a bit tedious at times, but I thought it was really helpful for learning Italian. It requires focus, so I couldn't do it while completing household tasks like I do for audiobooks. Instead, I did it while walking. It definitely made me feel accomplished and more comfortable with Italian. Someday when I am old and infirm, I will use all of his books to keep my mind sharp b/c I am not a Sodoku fan.

This is a decent introduction - it gives you basic sentences that can be used in simple conversations. There are mnemonics to help you remember certain rules - arguably, some are more helpful than others.

However, THIS IS INCREDIBLY REPETITIVE to the point I rolled my eyes a couple of times. It is also not very challenging if you are a fast learner, so I got bored halfway through.

This is a fantastic audiobook series for anyone who is trying to learn a new language. There is no need to take notes or memorize anything because the lessons are sequenced in a manner that helps the listener remember what has been learned and be able to access learning from working memory. I was skeptical at first, but it worked really well for me.

Really well done. I think it helped a lot that I had some basic understanding of Spanish, which is similar, but an interesting and helpful way to teach a language. Covers a lot more than your basic pleasantries. I couldn’t absorb all of it, but well presented.

Great introduction to "tourist italian". The knowledge gotten through this audiobook really sticks on your mind and is easily rehearsed from times to times with the additional booklet.

Pop Sugar Reading Challenge 2016: a self-improvement book.

While easy to follow along, I've been corrected more than once on Paul's phrases while in Italy. I think he taught more complicated and formal ways to communicate.
