From the plains of Afghanistan to the alleyways of Victorian London, from the dark heart of the English countryside to the ruin of Europe after the Great War, join Sherlock Holmes and Dr John Watson in a quartet of astonishing new investigations which span their lifelong friendship and beyond....
Jonathan Barnes is the author of two novels, The Somnambulist and The Domino Men. He contributes regularly to the Times Literary Supplement and the Literary Review and is the author of several scripts for Big Finish Productions. He is currently writer-in-residence at Kingston University.
Four connected short stories starting with a body pulled from the river in London while Watson is captured by tribesmen in Afghanistan. They continue until after World War I in a reforming Europe. An interesting set of threads connects the stories.
I think this is my favourite of the Sherlock Holmes sets by Big Finish. Often in Big Finish Nick Briggs turns up and is so recognisable that he takes me out of the story but I do enjoy him as Holmes.
An outstanding collection of audio adventures featuring Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson spanning the great fictional detective's career. Well worth listening to.
Very good , well written "redu" of the Sherlock genre. Seems very true to the original Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. And I especially like Jonathan Barnes presentation of Dr. Watson's military service and injuries, and the new aspect of a narration by Sherlock Holmes himself.
This boxed set consists of 4 linked adventures that take place throughout the careers and lives of Holmes and Watson. The first story features both Holmes and Watson before they met. We rarely get to see them working alone at this early point in their respective careers. All of the stories are very well done.
The best Sherlock Holmes story from Big Finish yet. I loved the deep friendship between Holmes and Watson in this one, and though the ending seemed a bit... out there, it deserves 4 stars for the simple fact that it focused more on the relationship between the two leads and not on various original characters!
