Surprise! Dukes #1

The Duke’s Deceitful Governess: Surprise! Dukes, Book 1

Rate this book
Love is a luxury he can't afford . . .

For years, he was known only as Blackrose's Blade, an elite assassin in the employ of the Crown. But after a mission cost him the use of his leg, Rourke Lindsay has unexpectedly inherited a dukedom . . . and along with it, the headache of a pair of hellion twins. Now, he's in dire need of a miracle.

He just didn't expect her to be quite so tempting.

Needing a safe place to hide, Miss Sophia Cuny has forged her references and settled into the Duke of Exingham's employ, unwilling to admit she knows next to nothing about children. She does, however, know all about the Duke's painful past and why the cynical warrior refuses to allow himself close to a pair of rapscallion troublemakers, no matter how desperately they need his love.

The longer she tries to avoid the new duke, the more she sees the man beneath the scars—the man who needs love as well—even if he's unwilling to admit it. Too bad she can't afford to allow him into her heart, even as the danger she's running from closes in.

Because Sophia possesses secrets about his past even Rourke doesn't know, and revealing the truth will ruin them all.

Contains mature themes.

My love and quest for the nanny/governess trope failed me!

I like horny books, I do.
I'm not a historian.
My native language is French.

The many anachronisms in this lusty historical romance with over the top banter and caricatural phonetic Scottish spelling shouldn't upset me but "fook" if they didn't.
This felt like reading a contemporary in period costume and I need a modicum of decorum that I'm indeed reading a historical romance. Honestly, anachronisms in HR don't bother me much, usually, it's just that coupled with the ridicule Scottish spelling, the insta lust and the complete absence of propriety observance between the heroine and hero, it didn't feel like I was reading a HR anymore and above all it made their every interaction more like a parody.
"Dinnae fook the staff."
"I have to be honest, Miss cuny. Ye're giving off some verra mixed signals."
"Let 'em talk. Fook 'em all."
"-This is madness. The fact I've never had a woman I wanted so badly to fook causing this much pain.
-You want to...
-Fook ye. Lick ye all over. Make ye scream my name."

This actually depicts myself after I'm done binge-reading a Highlander series and have fun with some caricatural lingo. I found the use of Scottish accent spelling excessive and more distracting than anything else.

I also seriously wondered if I could read this one without doubling the letter N in the heroine's last name, after all I will be forever 12 in my head— turns out the hero and I are of same age. 😅
"But Miss Cuny... Christ Almighty, that name. Cuny sounded far too close to cunny, which is likely why his mouth had begun to water as soon as she stepped into the room. Really must do something about that last name."

Although I found hilarious that the Duke requested from the butler that they stop addressing Miss Cuny by her last name to avoid him further discomfort, eventually the running joke about her last name grew tiresome.
"I think, for my sake, Caruthers, we ought to refer to her as the governess."

I loved the kids in the story though. They were a really fun set of little hellions!

Don't come at me about fiction and fantasy in romance, I'm aware. This one simply didn't work for me and I doubt this author is for me. I'll try another one... maybe.

Well, historical accuracy and relevant verbiage die a swift death, but who cares when the story was so damn adorable. It just reeked of cuteness and romance and guaranteed a smile on your face!

Special Mentions -

- Sophia Cuny, her last name was "cunny". Hilarious!
- Rourke saying "Fook".
- The mystery.
- The twins. My God, they were awesome!

⭐⭐⭐
3 stars.

➕ What I liked :

Funny.

Scottish hero.

Rather interesting plot.

The kids in the story were rather funny hellions but also somewhat devious and added to the story.

Rather good romantic build up and chemistry.

Some cute/sweet moments.

➖ What I disliked:

A overabundance of anachronisms and a little too modern.

Kind of vague character description/visual appearance of both the main characters… especially about the heroine. (Mostly eye color/hair color…. Most other characteristics were rather vague.)

The ridiculous surname the heroine had.

A little too OTT in some parts.

Caroline Lee is sort of like a new author to me. I had only read her in the Second Chance Manor series with Scarlett Scott and Merry Farmer. But the last book in that series was one that she wrote and it was my favorite and was so damn good, I had to try her again. She writes a lot of Scottish genre which isn't my favorite. This is my 9th book by her.

I really like Those Kilted Bastard series, but returned book 1 of Bad in Plaid series. Way too Scottish for me but she writes so good, I wanted to try her again so glad she had this new series out.

I really liked this book a lot. It was a great storyline, great characters and good sex scenes. I like it had some suspense and intrigue. Can't wait for book 2.

I would definitely recommend.

For years, Rourke Lindsay was known only as Blackrose’s Blade, an elite assassin in the employ of the Crown. But after a mission cost him the use of his leg & has unexpectedly inherited a dukedom and along with it, the headache of a pair of nine year twins. His niece and nephew have been kicked out of every school he’s sent them to and scared off every governess he’s hired. Now, he’s in dire need of a miracle. Miss Sophia Cuny has forged her references and settled into the Duke of Exingham’s employ, unwilling to admit she knows next to nothing about children. She does, however, know all about the Duke’s painful past and why the cynical warrior refuses to allow himself close to a pair of rapscallion troublemakers, no matter how desperately they need his love. Too bad she can’t afford to allow him into her heart, even as the danger she’s running from closes in.
The start of a new series & a brilliant start it was. The author’s characters inhabit the same world so it's no surprise that we've met the Lindsay family before. I make no bones about loving the authors books they tick all the boxes for me – delicious romance, intrigue & especially the humour. I loved both Rourke & Sophia, their chemistry was electric, the twins Hunter & Geraldine or whatever she’s being called today are terrors who are desperate for love & to belong. I loved how the gruff Rourke began to relax & actually smile. An engrossing, captivating read which I loved & eagerly await the rest of the series
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

The book started funny and intriguing. Then it turned into the "how many times does a man say "fook" book. (fook=f*ck in this story) The Scottish accent was more in the way here than helping with the character description. I liked the twins and their shenanigans. The leading lady was charming then whiny. Sigh. I will not continue with the series. It was tedious to read this one.

Delightfully hilarious and perfectly enjoyable HistRomCom fluff! Roarke Lindsay, former spy and assassin for the Crown, is a begrudging, curmudgeonly duke and has the guardianship of his twin niece and nephew. He hires Miss Sophia Cuny as governess on the recommendation of his former employer in desperation because his charges have run off all the other governesses with their cheeky misbehavior. But Miss Cuny (*not* Cunny!) isn’t quite the governess Roarke believes her to be. Funny and fast-paced word-play, a mystery, and two devilishly cute children make this story quite lovely. I haven’t read the Kilted Bastards series, so while Lee gave enough background for me to get an idea of previous incidents and elements from other books, I did feel like I missed out a bit and will definitely be giving the other series a read before continuing with Surprise! Dukes.

SFCP (safe for childless people) provided 10 year old children are okay; super hot scenes with the mains but no pregnancy in the main story epilogue, vague mentions of Roarke needing to eventually beget an heir is the extent of that talk.

WHEN SPIES GO SPYING ON OTHER SPIES

What can I say about The Duke's Deceitful Governess--I LOVED IT. I loved the characters, the angst, the mystery and suspense, and found this story a delightful, laughing out loud, page turning tale. From start to finish, this was an enjoyable read. Reading the beginning of the next book has me looking forward to it.

The story has the good, the bad, and the evil. A grumpy duke with a limp, a surprise governess on a mission, and twins who add to this tale. Throw in the secrets, lies, and deceit that all play their parts. The chemistry between Rourke and Sophia is steamy. Best of all, no matter how bad things seem, love has a way of prevailing--and yes, the coveted happily-ever-after ending.

This book featured Rourke, ex spy and newly minted Duke and Sophia, a spy/secretary pretending to be a governess. For reasons, Sophia needed to find documents(?) and therefore signed on to be governess in order to search through Rourke’s things. This subplot is very quickly abandoned when the two hot people immediately have eyes for each other. She’s totally down to be his mistress because why not and he tells himself not to be with the staff, but does it anyway. The subplot comes back solely for conflict. There are two children around constantly and half the book is just kids learning about math and being reasonable humans.

I accidentally read book two first and loved the bonkers-ness of the writing style and plot, so I figured I would go back and start at the beginning of the series. While this was still good, it didn’t hook me in as much as book two did. Maybe because it was more of a traditional historical romance? The puns/asides/names/tongue in cheek references are fun and I do love a book that doesn’t take itself too seriously!

NOT historical romance

I chose a historical romance because that's what I want to read.. . This novel is feminist propaganda, heavily peppered with foul language and sexual content masquerading as "historical" and "romance".
Ridiculous. I should be issued a refund for the fraudulent description.

Surprise!
Folks, Caroline Lee was a man in her past life! Or she is still a man and the most convincing crossdresser who ever lived. Because I thought I was in the MMC’s head when reading this book. It was the most entertaining, accurate (I know because I, too, am a crossdressing man), and intimate thoughts of a man I’ve read.

Between you and me, internal dialogues are usually boring. They tend to ruminate about one thing or another but not Rourke. His thoughts were realistic, honest, full of personality, and most importantly, vulgar. Delicious vulgarity married with the baritone voice of William Shatner soaked my panties, people. It’s Depends all the way next time I read/listen to Carl Lee.

What? Yes. I didn’t know either, but William Shatner apparently has a side gig narrating steamy HR romance.

Now, it’s time for some advice, Caroline. If you ever decide to pursue a side gig for fun, I recommend that you teach anthropology.

It can be difficult to find anything surprising or refreshing after reading one genre for a long time, but she did just that for me by her study of human behaviour. The subtle details of her observations gave me so many “Aha” moments. So much so that I saw a big gaping hole in other well-known works. And that’s saying something considering I just retired from a career of analyzing mental and physical behaviours of homo sapiens. While others paint with small paintbrushes, Caroline uses her pinkie nail for her craft.

I should warn you about a major trigger in this book. There are children in almost every chapter. So, this might be the right time to confess that I don’t like children–I mean books with children. Except for Caroline’s children. Not her children. Book children. Gosh, I’m a mess today.

When children were mentioned in the first chapter, I paused the audiobook and took some meditative breaths. You can do this, Mihwa. You are strong and resilient. You’ve come this far in life. This will only make you stronger.

Even though the title mentioned a governess, I hadn’t made the connection. Duh. That’s how much I dislike children in books. My brain went right into denial and pretended they didn’t exist. I tried this with my own children and they’re still here. I’m fortunate though because my daughter treats me like the ghost of a short line cook who haunts our kitchen, and my son is growing a beard, so he has better things to do.

But Carl’s children? A few sentences after they opened their mouths, I was relieved. They are smarter than me. They are wiser and wittier. Thank goodness I don’t have to suffer. I may even have cried a little with relief. Then I wondered how I could trade up my children with this pair. They are perfect–small enough that I could carry them to the nearest sweatshop but smart enough to embarrass obnoxious party guests.

To be honest, I wanted to hate this book because that woman, Caroline, is so hilarious that she is a threat to my stand-up prospects. But when you cannot beat the enemy, you might as well join them. I have applied as Caroline’s wingman at parties and hope to hear from them soon. Why? Because that girl is a big bundle of laughter and vibrant energy bursting at the seams. I mean, I’m a semi-professional party fluffer myself, but this girl is a force to be reckoned with. If we had to battle rap, I’m pretty sure she’d have me trembling.

As funny as this book is, this story is pretty darn serious about two kinds of love–Love between a man and a woman, love between children and their caretakers. One chapter is solely devoted to illustrating how tenderly Rourke cares for his ward even though he may not have realized it. Every detail was touching.

Some chapters may feel slow, but let the words wash over you. Take your time and savour it because not a word was excessive and not a thought or gesture, was in vain. This book had some of the most heartwarming moments, delivered effortlessly like water over river rocks. But when there was passion, it exploded without holding anything back. And whoa, it left me dizzy, surprised, and delighted. I felt every stroke, every caress, and every heat the characters shared. Meaning… you know what I mean.

Alas, no book and no person are perfect, so I must point out the shortcomings. My main complaint about this book is that the man on the cover is wearing pants. Secondly, the woman on the cover is not me.

Lastly, Carl tries to sneak in various lessons without the reader’s knowledge. I was engrossed in the story and before I knew it, I learned about divisions, how to become a spy, homophones, musculoskeletal deformities, and cats. How dare they teach me something?

Of note, Philip Alces’ narration is excellent. He seems to overact in some places, but that’s because he’s really William Shatner.

Anyhow, I wasted enough time talking to you people while I could’ve been reading the next book in the series or practicing my curtsy to Caroline aka Carl. I know you think it’s a pipedream, but perchance one day, I’ll get to bask in her golden glow, and mayhap, she’ll let me touch her wings.

Love is a luxury he can’t afford…

For years, he was known only as Blackrose’s Blade, an elite assassin in the employ of the Crown. But after a mission cost him the use of his leg, Rourke Lindsay has unexpectedly inherited a dukedom…and along with it, the headache of a pair of hellion twins. He just didn’t expect her to be quite so tempting.

Needing a safe place to hide, Miss Sophia Cuny has forged her references and settled into the Duke of Exingham’s employ, unwilling to admit she knows next to nothing about children. (How hard can child-rearing be, after all? Perhaps there’s a book on the subject she could send off for.) She does, however, know all about the Duke’s painful past and why the cynical warrior refuses to allow himself close to a pair of rapscallion troublemakers, no matter how desperately they need his love.

The longer she tries to avoid the new duke, the more she sees the man beneath the scars—the man who needs love as well—even if he’s unwilling to admit it. Too bad she can’t afford to allow him into her heart, even as the danger she’s running from closes in.

Because Sophia possesses secrets about his past even Rourke doesn’t know, and revealing the truth will ruin them all.

Is there still enough trust left in him to accept a justified deceit …

I love every book I have read so far from the author, but this one is now definitely my favorite of them all.
It is witty, clever, flippant, with non historically accurate silly banters and hot hot hot.
I love my historical romance to be accurate but I do not place Mrs Lee books in this strict category, she is one of her own, a mix between romance (always lovely), steam (a lot), humor (in abundance) and historical facts reimagined and reinterpreted with her very own world, rules, dictionary and A Harlot’s Guide to the Forbidden and Delightful Arts as common link between her many storylines.
Never pass by the author’s notes at the end of the book, they are facetious and brilliant.
As this book is.
A terrific tale of love, trust and forgiveness.

Sophia is just whoa!
How to not adore her, she is so accepting, straightforward (despite of course hiding the true reason of her stay), and easy to love.
She might not reveal why she landed as Rourke’s new governess, but she is so fun to follow, from her thoughts running from one idea then jumping to another, yet she is still her father’s daughter, a healer in the soul, trying to mend what she sees as damaged, Rourke’s leg but also his soul and her charge’s fragile hearts.
Rourke although still a reluctant duke and a wounded one at it, is determined to not be like his sire, but he struggles to find a way out of what he has always known.
Why he wants the best for his wards but does not know how to deliver it, so closeted in his own pain, he does not see they too hurt.

Until Sophia, she is the cure to all their ailments, her strength is her gentleness, her caring persona and her honest self(except for the motivation behind her visit), one who does not lie to herself.

Rourke & Sophia

This was a steamy 🔥🔥 entertaining story about spies for The Crown. In reality the H & his fellow spy friends and also the h were being duped by the head of the fake organization who was the real traitor. The h being his secretary finds him out and steals evidence that implicates him but he starts looking for her. She goes into hiding by applying for governess of the H’s twins using fake recommendations. The H is a handsome virile man that injured his lower leg on his last spy mission where he was instructed to assault and kill one of his close friends and fellow spy. He then becomes Duke to his family estate which he really doesn’t want. He also becomes guardian for his twin 9 year old niece and nephew. Thus in comes the governess. The kids have been neglected and abandoned and act out to get attention from the H (even if it is negative attention). The h is kind and patient with them and shows them love which turned them around to be better behaved (although still creative rascals which gives the story cute humor).
I really liked the h she was spunky intelligent (wanted to be a doctor) and was a beauty. They are both instantly attracted to each other and eventually enter into a steamy 🔥🔥 passionate romance. They became a family because she breaks through the H’s hardened heart and he shows love for his kids and falls in love with h.
They have a showdown with the traitor where h and the children are in danger until H and his friends save them (although the traitor gets away). They have a wedding and HEA in the end. Since I like the excitement of spies and secrets and a spicy 🔥🔥 romance this was a good read. If you like the same I recommend it.

This was my first Caroline Lee book and it won’t be my last. But I will say right off the bat that although this book is enjoyable as a stand alone, the MMC and I think a few more secondary characters are in the series before this and there is a lot of references to what happened before. Caroline does manage to give you enough so your not totally confused, but I’m one of those people that all the references just start to bug me and I want to go stop and go back and read the books before. The author does mention what previous book the MMC (Rourke) shows up in in the authors note though.
So for all this I’m taking off 1 ⭐️ And calling my rating a solid 4⭐️
This was a delightful read. I loved the characters of Sofia and Rourke and of course the 2 children and the banter between them makes for an enjoyable read. I love how the little girl keeps trying out different names starting with “G” and the reason why. The angst is there but doesn’t over power the book and has a very satisfying conclusion at the end (without drawing it out).

Oh and Spoiler alert……..

I really enjoyed the “Alias” TV show plot that is unwinding with Sophie sort is the Sydney character
I’m looking forward to going back a reading some of the previous books and then continuing on with this newest series

Really Liked It

A historical romance set in later Victorian Scotland with a good helping of steam, a side of humor, and just enough danger as the governess falls for the Duke. The heroine, Sophia Cuny, is a smart & thoughtful woman on the run after learning too much. The hero, Rourke Lindsay the Duke of Exingham, is a good man with too many walls around his feelings after he was betrayed before. Can the ex-spy now Duke trust enough to let down his walls, or will the secret the governess knows destroy everything?

I really enjoyed this read. The heroine was smart and funny. She had more modern than historically accurate sensibilities, but I thought that just contributed to the fun of the book. I would almost classify this book 'light & fun', but there is that small danger aspect of spies and secrets that disqualifies it. Whatever you call it I found the blend of romance, steam, humor, and danger to be worth reading & will definitely pick up some more by this author.

*****Spoiler Alert*****
This Book Includes
Violence.
Reference to wound by sword & firebomb exploding train, small reference to assassinations, heroine hit & held at gunpoint, children held at gunpoint & locked in burning building, brief guy fight with near choking.
Sex. MF sex, virgin heroine.

I read the second book in this series first and loved it, but this one unfortunately wasn't as good.

While I liked the premise, there wasn't enough fooking imo. The main couple didn't have the same chemistry as Demon and Georgia did and as much as I liked the kids, I wanted less of them and more of Rourke and Sophia. The story focused more on the plot and yet... didn't at the same time?

I try not to be too picky when it comes to romance novels, but sometimes things just are too "in your face" to ignore.

The Duke’s Deceitful Governess by Caroline Lee is what I’ve come to expect from her: a well crafted story with heart, humor, and a dash of intrigue. I always expect the humor, but Rourke and Sophia’s story touched me on a deeper level.

Rourke’s loyalty to his siblings caught my attention in The Sinner’s Tempting Captor when he did what he needed to do to protect Honoria. I knew it would take a smart and strong heroine to stand up to his gruff ways. Sophia fits that description.

Rourke is going to be a tough act to follow! He’s built a wall around his heart, and much of my enjoyment in the book came from watching Sophia and the twins break it down. One of my favorite scenes in the book is when Rourke shows interest in their education and ends up participating in a humorous lesson about homonyms and homophones.

Of course, The Harlot’s Guide makes a cameo appearance much to Rourke’s delight. I appreciated the Easter eggs included for fans who’ve read her other series, but The Duke’s Deceitful Governess can definitely be enjoyed on its own.

I’m looking forward to Demon’s story. I hope to see Rourke and Sophia make an appearance along with Thorne and Bull as they work together to defeat the villain!

I received an ARC from the author. The opinion above is my own.

Another fabulous book by Caroline Lee: yes, please! I’ve been following this series from the very start and every book is better than the previous one, if that is possible. (Yes, I know, this is a new series, but it’s linked to the previous one, even if every book can be read as a gorgeous stand-alone). The thing I love most is how the author brings the readers inside the mind of her characters. Rourke was a mysterious and intriguing character in the previous book of the series and I enjoyed having a look inside his mind and discovering the funny, sarcastic side of him that he was hiding to the world. And the twins, such a sweet pair of mischievous children! And Sophia, of course, smart, lovable and daring. Every character, main and minor, is perfect, vivid, real. This book has a touch more angst at the end that I loved very much! I really prefer the rom-coms when there’s balance between the funny moments and the angstier ones: it makes the book even more enjoyable, in my opinion. So this is perfection, more than the usual Caroline Lee’s perfection. Now I’m waiting for my favorite type of character… The scarred, reclusive hero! Hurry up, Caroline!

Not believable, over the top plot with a hefty number of cliches. Many of the conflicts are too easily resolved. Boring. Certain things were not fleshed out enough (character’s pasts, families) and others too much (endless rumination about feelings for the other). Rourke took far too long to understand the situation with blackrose. Take a note from Mary Balough, bc it is absolutely possible to have a decent plot and also have characters that figure things out quickly.

Anachronisms were annoying. Instead of it seeming purposeful, which apparently it was, it just seemed like the author didn’t have an editor. Either go all in, à la the show dickenson, or learn to be funny without modernized speech. Though I honestly believe you cannot do what dickenson does in writing.

That said, the banter is often funny, especially with the children, who were the best part of the novel. The only problem with them, other than the tired cliche of MMC having rebellious wards (so often twins, too?), was how they were described as if they were the size of six year olds. The difference in height between a ten year old and an adult is not actually that much. So many authors do not seem to know this.

Loved the feminism.

Rourke is in pain from his legs and his frustration with his twin wards! Hunter and Giselle Aka Gabriella she’s not sure have run off several governess and have not been able to stay at school!
Enough!! Miss Sophia Cuny to the rescue because if they run her away then they will be separated for good! Certainly not what any twins will want! This is a ROM-Com hilarious play on words yet there is imminent danger!
Sophia came to see if the Blade of Blackrose was the callous assassin her former employer indicated he was?! Rourke overwhelmed with being a Duke and his endless responsibilities and these two hellions and then a ray of sunshine burst in!
Sophia who has secretes and carnal knowledge no governess should have! She teases and coaxed the twins into behaving even at dinner!
Unbeknownst to them this family needs love which being a well read doctors daughter Sophia has in abundance!
The truth has a way of coming out and when it does Rourke is angry and feeing betrayed but does he have enough time to pull his head out of his arse and save 3 life’s?
I love the reunion with Demon and Thorne but the evil got away I am sure there will be resolution in the next 2 books… Bravo!!

adorably fun book to read

Rourke is a really delightful hero burdened with a draconian father and a past he hides from everyone. He’s cast walls around his heart for fear of being betrayed by some one he trusts again. He’s a duke by default because all his older brothers are dead by the hand of his father with the exception of one who died by disease. He inherited his brothers illegitimate twins who run a muck. In comes a mysterious governess who bonds with the delightfully witty children and everyone else in the house including Rourke. Sophia is smart, warm and loving but not really a governess. The repartee in this story is funny and engaging. The relationships as 5hey develop are really adorable. Rourke’s niece is hilarious in her search for a new name and her love of animals. She’s witty and so very bright. Hunter the nephew is an adorable boy seeking love. The predecessor book the Sinners Tempting Captive introduces Rourke and you recognize the emotional struggle but loving heart he has. I think it’s necessary to read the kilted Bastards series and then this book to truly understand how happy this ending is. The book is just a delight.

Definitely a cartoon faux-historical faux-romance, but a funny, somewhat entertaining, and occasionally heartwarming cartoon. Any part of this story to do with the children was brilliant. Honest-to-goodness brilliant. My eyes got all watery when the kids stared uncertainly at their birthday gifts and one of them confessed they had never gotten a birthday gift before. Forget romance. It was “hello” to crude sexual imaginings within 0.7 seconds of meeting. Ugh. And the whole spies-vs-traitors plotline that sounded so promising in the beginning turned out to be a vague, skimmed over device just to throw a bad guy into the mix. This bad guy was the most incompetent bad guy in the history of bad guys, which made the hero of this story—and the heroes of the rest of the series?—look like complete idiots for doing his evil bidding.

But did I mention this was often funny? And occasionally heartwarming? Just skim the sex and spymaster parts and concentrate on the kids and this becomes readable.

Funny, Flirtatious, Family:
A most unappealing and humorous prologue I have ever read that had me
laughing out loud and glued to turning the pages right from the start.
An emotionally passionate romance story with a bit of a mystery that hides
in-between the pages as you read and discover this amazing the romance.
Tis a cast of wonderful characters with hilarious names that we to get to
meet and follow them through this stupendous sparky romance story that is
filled with an extra amount of passion, surprises galore, situations that had
me gasping for breath and a gut gripping ending. A heartfelt epilogue had the
couple reaching their HEA, but maybe there's still more to come in the next book?

Sophia and Rourke.

Some hot, witty scenes. 🔥🔥🔥. She is an undercover spy sent to be a governess to his nice and nephew. He is a former spy and is very gruff - until she has him grinning constantly. She wants him - he her. He has a leg injury and she has some medical knowledge. There is a another scene where she catches him in the act and he confesses he can’t stop thinking about her and her hair - she is like really “my hair - isn’t that odd”… so funny. She sees he is hurting so seeks him out in his rooms to provide some “kneeding” - only he takes it as “needing” and thus the heat is turned on so much so he ends up finishing on her foot… later he is like omg her foot. She later seduces him under his office desk and then it leads to him fully taking her and her saying aloud in passion with each thrust “I love you”.
Fook is a constant word he was in his Scottish accent.

Very well written, witty and lovely story with all the feels. I am REALLY enjoying Lee’s writing style.
