Holiday #2

The Block Party: Holiday Series, Book 2

Rate this book
This is book two in the Holiday Series.

Talon Mitchell had gotten a job right out of college, had her own coffee mug at the office that no one else could use, and planned to keep her job as sales manager for a long time, because she had practically grown up working for this company. She was content and not looking for anything, when a new sales director showed up and changed everything.

Emerson Bagley just got a new job, and while she felt ready for the next step, when she sees someone she recognizes from a holiday party working on the same team, she can’t believe her luck - both good and bad. Good, because Talon Mitchell was very attractive, very smart, and seemingly, very interested in Emerson, too. Bad, because she couldn’t date someone who worked for her, especially in her brand-new job.

Feeling the simmering heat begin to boil over, the two women decide to at least take one step, and deal with the rest later. When neither of them had been prepared to seek out love, they managed to find it where they least expected it.

**'Some good writers gets better by learning to remove both the ornamental and the descriptive parts -- and what remains is the actual story. So what is this story? It's the essential progression of incidents/action that occurs to all the protagonists in pursuit of their goals...'

3.5stars!
This 2nd book is a sexually entertaining storyline -- and interested readers will not be disappointed because it now focuses more on nymphomaniac Talon. It's her story -- interacting ever so often with the other group of friends -- seeking advise about romance, falling in Love, having a relationship, voicing her issues in addition with everything else before committing to 'The One'
Then here comes Emerson; sexually obsessive and is even compatible sexually with Talon. Beneath all their sexual encounters is chemistry and even verbal communication.
Another well told story in the 'HOLIDAY' series. Recommended to all!

The boss' boss.

This book is an excellent choice if you're up for a really steamy read. This is the second book of the Holiday series by Nicole Pyland and it's very different from the first. Book 1 was cute but this one is incredibly sexy because Talon has an insatiable sexual appetite.

If you're unfamiliar with this series, Talon is one of six members of a core friend group and this book, which is a paraquel of Book 1, features her love story with her boss' boss, Emerson. The usual workplace forbidden love theme plays out and Emerson is the cautious one when it comes to exploring the spark between them because she's the one in the position of authority and I like how they work things out. The nature of Talon's relationship with Emerson is sexual first. Talon's high libido had caused a strain in her past relationships so she's worried about falling into the same pattern with Emerson. But Emerson's sex drive apparently matches Talon's and there's sexual compatibility so there's a lot of action between the sheets (and other places), so much so that when Pyland emailed the ARC team, she had to recommend not reading this in public.

I love this one not only because it's a really hot workplace romance but there's also good chemistry and communication between the characters.

I think Aria is the next friend to fall in love. She's a serial one night stander and I'm interested to see what will happen.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is second in a series and occurs pretty much simultaneously with the first. Which works out great, actually, though the first resolves faster. I recommend reading them in order because it just works out better if you do.

I only really read about two-thirds of this story before figuring that I had enough. Not in a bad way. I got to where Talon and Emerson were together and their relationship fairly solid and their chemistry off the charts before finding it hard to pick the story back up.

Which seems like I didn't like the story but that's not true. I loved their relationship and particularly how they interacted at work as well as their personal moments. Emerson's appreciation for Talon and the solidarity she felt for her were outstanding. And Talon's engagement with Emerson was just as solid.

Two things made me finally call it quits. First, and by far the most important, is that I felt I had what I wanted from the story. Their relationship was established, their love clear, and all that was left was some external conflict with their workplace. I have a really low tolerance for "not at work" as an excuse to not have a relationship and I felt that they'd handled that already. Any further conflict would feel unnecessary to me, even if it were made reasonable and/or realistic.

Second, and I hate to admit it, the steam in this one was wearing on me. Both Talon and Emerson have sexual appetites that are, at a minimum, above average. They go at it like sex-starved teens. And while Pyland shows how integral that compatibility is to their relationship dynamic, it just plain wore me out.

So yeah, I'm going to go with four stars for a book I dnf'd at two-thirds. It's a good story and I very much enjoyed the characters and relationship. But I got out of the story all I want to and I'm happy to move on to the next in the series.

A note about Steamy: See above. I don't know if it would have crossed beyond my steam tolerance by the end or if Pyland would start pulling out of showing it all. I suspect she will so it's likely it'd end up merely on the high end of my steam tolerance. But there's a chance it continues its pace, unabated.

Warning! Do not read in public.
This is a very steamy read that isn’t suited for consumption in a public place ;)

Book 2 I’m the Holiday series and I think you should read book one before reading this one, yet to get a better sense of the groups friends. I supposed you could start with this one as there are entire pages exactly the same as in book one. This is a paraquel. And that is the thing I like least about this book, not it being a paraquel, but having the exact same passages, even down to how the main characters perceives the conversations. I don’t like that. It might just have gotten on my nerves because I finished book one and dove straight into this one. You might not notice as much if you space them out a bit.

Overal I did like this book better than book one. The mains, Talon and Emerson, seems to be a good match and are insatiable. Like wow insatiable… I liked how Poland deals with them working together and figuring it all out. Reading about the project they were working on reminds me of the dreadful program I use at work and how I need to go about making changes. Dreadful, honestly. So yeah, seems very legit to me.

If you’re looking for a steamy romance with a bit of substance, this is your read.

Another great read

Second book from the Holiday series is Talon’s story. We had glimpses of what’s to come in the first book and you should read that one first. It starts at the same NYE party as the first book but we are seeing Talon’s point of view. Talon that crushes hard on her boss’s boss, Emerson. It features a work place romance that comes with the usual caution especially from Emerson’s side as she is in the position of power. And because this is about Talon it’s a steamier than the first one. Lucky us that Emerson matches Talon’s sex drive. But the book is about more than just sex, it’s also about family, blood or chosen, friendship and personal and professional growth. Can’t wait to see what’s next.

Talon Mitchell meets Emerson Bagley at work, which is unfortunate since she can’t stop thinking about her in a distinctly non work way. Even worse is the fact that they not only work together but Emerson is her boss’s boss and very much off limits. Emerson is having many of the same thoughts about Talon since seeing her across the room at a New Years party, but now that she knows Talon is her subordinate at her new job she’ll need to stop before she finds herself fired.
I always enjoy Nicole Pyland’s series, the characters are varied and real and I love that we get to see them throughput the series, it makes the book hangover a bit easier to get over. As always, this was well written with an engaging plot. I loved how this story varied so much with Annie and Weston’s, everyone has their own path and their own perfect match and this is apparent in this series. I love the focus on holidays here too, it was a great idea for this new series. Love the MCs who had major chemistry together. Also loved all the side characters and I can’t wait for the next in this series, this friend group is so much fun!

The Block Party is book two in The Holiday Series, and Nicole Pyland has succeeded once again in creating some wonderfully, refreshingly real characters in Talon and Emersen.

The Block Party is hot, fun, sweet and full of fun banter between friends. As with Pyland's other books, one of my favourite elements is the way she writes dialogue. It is real, and witty and never overly melodramatic. This is so far the series in the steamiest as well with A LOT of sex.

The groups of friends the series is created around continue to be side characters with a few more little insights into each if them as if getting us ready for their own stories.

Hot and heavy read for sure, i liked seeing how Tal and Em relationship developed, the chemistry between them is great and i am glad it wasn’t just sex
There’s a few cringy parts but overall I enjoyed it

I really like Aria and want to read more about her, but there’s a lot of trope i hate, so i am debating it, if anyone here read it let me know if it’s worth it!

We start at the New Year's Eve party again but from Talon's POV. Emerson sees Talon first and she is interested in her instantly. Talon first sees her at work and the two can't stop looking at each other. This is one sizzling story and I thought my Kindle would melt LOL. They have some great fantasies about each other so you can imagine what happens when they connect for real. Talon has a few worries about how she has handled relationships in the past. Her friends help her through some of her doubts. Emerson has just started this new job and doesn't want to jeopardize that. I couldn't put this book down and yet I wanted it to last forever. The group of friends is expanding with each new partner and they get along so well.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the author in return for my honest review.

This second book in the Holiday series is considered a parasequal by Pyland. Meaning it is the same time line as the first book in the series but from a different characters perspective. This is a pretty creative concept but does lead to some repeating from the first book. Regardless, I liked this second installment way better than the first.

This is a forbidden romance book with the two main characters working together. Both characters are developed pretty well and their feeling for each other become VERY clear pretty quickly.

This book is super hot! Pyland has warned you don’t read this book in public and she could’t be more right about that. Take that advice and enjoy!

Talon and Emerson have a crazy and good story.

Basically, is your common plot where someone falls in love with her boss and their boss reciprocates. Yes, there’s more and in every book of this series the characters are developed in a way that you actually meet them and are able to be empathetic with them on their journey.

In this particular book I consider that we have more of Emerson’s POV than Talon’s, maybe that’s not bad because you get to meet a bit of the MCs (friends group the series is based on) in all the other books.

I didn’t enjoy that this story was way too connected to the previous book (Weston & Annie’s book), there were many situations that happened simultaneously and that felt like I was reading the same thing several times; this also happened because I started reading these books after all the series was published if you read it when it was published every other month it should’ve helped as a friendly reminder.

This is the first ARC book that I've had the pleasure of reading! Nicole Pyland is one of my favorite Authors and getting to read this book early was awesome! This slow Burn gets hot and heavy! I really enjoyed reading about Talon and Emerson. I feel like they are a good fit. They both love their families and work and always seem to put that first before themselves. Finding one another and finding love makes their worlds complete. I also really enjoyed that The Writing on the Walls and The Block Party are so intertwined. Like you get to read Book 1 all over again and then some. I'm a big fan of series and I know this one won't disappoint!

This takes place from Talon's view point. There are some conversations that are taken directly from the previous book but with the thoughts etc. of Talon. The Block Party is way steamier than the first book because Talon is a different person (which is a concept I completely am there for).

Talon's story is one based in reality and I find so relatable despite not living her life. Issues at work because of her gender and education are raised.

Yet again another fantastic book by Pyland.

Nicole Pyland is an author I will admit to having binge read over the last few months. I have enjoyed all of the books I have read, some more than other, but there has been something to enjoy about each book.

After finishing the first book in the "Holiday" series, I was really looking forward to reading book number 2 "The Block Party". I'd have to say this book didn't disappoint! In fact I enjoyed this book even more than the first book in the series. Starting off this book in the same scene as the first book but instead through Talon's point of view was interesting. In fact there were several scenes throughout the book that were also featured throughout the first book, but all through Talon's view this time, which really helped connect the two books.

The relationship between the Emmerson and Talon was both steamy and sweet. I like that it's Emmerson who is the first to catch a glimps of Talon and is instantly interested in her. Even though everyone keeps telling Talon how great she is just as herself, that she doesn't have to be a writer, rich or have started her own business to be great. It's Emmerson who really gets her stop stop putting herself down and to accept that who she is is just as important and that she's talented as well.

I would definitely recommend this book as a must read!

The Block Party, is the 2nd book in the Holiday series and its the First Book that I've read from Nicole Pyland. I got the chance to received a copy of the book early in exchange for my honest review and let me start by saying that it was a great read. Even if you haven't read the first book, you can read this as a stand alone. Although I don't think any of us would, I'm definitely reading the first one. So it appears that this series is about a group of friends and in the second book it focuses on Talon. Talon is looking for a real relationship, not just a hook up. Enter Emerson who ends up being Talon Boss Boss. The connection with these 2 are fire. If you enjoy a hot and steamy scenes this is the book for you. I loved the storyline and how it combines 2 people meeting each other and having such a strong connection as well as a group of friends that seem to be just as involve in supporting and being there for each other. Nicole makes you feel like you just want to be part of the group. Looking forward to reading more about these group of women!

Got to admit, I wasn't a fan of Talon's from the first book but in true Nicole Pyland fashion she wiped away all doubts with this story.
A book full of sweet romance, anxiety and some humour, I also loved how it completely interacted with the first book, both Weston and Annie and Talon and Emerson's relationships growing at the same time instead of a year or two later.
And of course the HEA which is usual in these books does not take any enjoyment from the read or feel of the book, another success as far as I am concerned

Nicole Pyland is talented. I lo e the pairings she makes with her MCs that each find the perfect person for them. The chemistry is outstanding. Most have low angst which is enjoyable. I will continue to follow her books and look forward to the next in the series.

I only discovered Nicole Pyland's books a short while ago and now I want to read them all. Usually I read another writers book before starting the next Pyland, but after reading the first book in this series I was so much looking forward to Talon's story that I picked The Block Party right away.

That was a good choice because this second book in the Holiday series starts at the same moment in time as the first one, kind of like in a parallel universe. That made for special moments on occasions Talon spent time with Weston, the MC from the first book. You get the same storyline from a different POV then.

I really wondered what it was about Talon that made Emerson think about having sex with her all the time from the moment she first saw her. I haven't expierenced such a thing myself. I was feeling sorry for Emerson because she must be so exhausted from constantly being turned on all the time. In the beginning that contributed to a great sexual tension though which was delicious. Where the first book was slow, this one was quite the opposite. And when there maybe could be a bit more sex in book 1, book 2 compensates plenty. Maybe a bit too much because all the sex almost bored me. Almost.

I recommand reading the series in order for the best expierence.

The Block Party

Ok- wow! This was quite the follow-up in the series! I love how they sort of pick up in the middle of Weston and Annie's story, but through the POV of Talon- who is my favorite character!

Talon and Emerson work together and have very steamy chemistry. For obvious reasons, though, they try to keep things to themselves - you know, the professional route. However, the more time they spend together, the harder it is to ignore what's going on between them. When they finally give in... it. is. scorching!🔥🔥🔥

Now, what to do about work? 🤔

The gang's all back in this 2nd book of the series. Who's story's next?

This is book 2 in the series of 6 friends that begins on New Year's Eve.

This is Talon's story. Steamy doesn't begin to cut it! It's an inferno!

Emerson is hired as Talon's boss's boss, and they both struggle with their magnetic attraction.

Even though she's great at her job, Talon struggles with self-confidence. Her vulnerability with her friends when talking about how hard she was crushing on Emerson, but too scared to do anything about it is very realistic.

Wes, the writer and main story from book 1 of this series and Talon's first, seems to be the one that really helps her. Talon was scared that her high libido (that's putting it mildly), and confusion about love, would turn Emerson away.

As someone with tech knowledge, I enjoyed that aspect and eveyone but Talon seemed to know how great she was at her job. Emerson laid out the real numbers as she tried reinforcing what an excellent employee Talon was.

The letter to HR before the "office scene" made me laugh.

Nicole Pyland is an excellent writer. She really shows characters vulnerabilities in realistic way. You definitely feel many different emotions reading her books! Highly recommended!

I am looking forward to shy Scarlet's story. This group of 6 characters starting from the beginning of a new year is creative and if the rest of the series is like the first two books, you're in for a great time in their world!

No double-checks that you need to read this book! The Block Party is the second book of a series you have to read. Nicole Pyland is taking you on an exciting and fun journey through the holidays here. I thought this book was really cool when I started reading it and thought I was rereading Writing On The Wall (the first book in the series) by mistake. Nope, I was just getting Talon’s take on the scene. So it caught my eye and had me hooked from the start.

You’re following a close group of friends and you get to see some of the same scenes from each character’s POV. This is Talon’s book and she is an endearing character you instantly connect with. It’s a workplace romance so Talon has some obstacles standing in her way from being with Emerson, but there’s zero lack of steam between the two. Seriously, it’s hot! Remember that when you’re reading it. It’s a fun journey where you see how Emerson & Talon navigate their worlds and lean on their family & friends to find their HEA.

This book was a great read and I am very excited to see where this series goes. It makes you want to reread both books to see if you can guess what might happen with the other friends when their books come out!

An other wonderful read by Nicole Pyland. The second instalment of the Holiday series was interesting and different from what I remember from the authors other series because of the book’s timeline. The second book overlapped with the first, so we knew that the characters would hook up, cool off and then give the relationship a try later on. This meant that there was a lot of anticipation for the first kiss / hook up and not as much new or unexpected developments. However, the very hot and steamy scenes were well worth the wait. We also got to revisit some of the same scenes from book 1 but from an other characters perspective which was nice but sometimes a bit repetitive.

I really enjoy pure fluffy sexy romance without sides of mystery or other genre so this book really hit the mark for me. All in all a very hot and fun read, which also further clarifies what the “holidays” series means. I cannot wait to see what happens next. I am definitely hoping for a friend to lover somewhere in this series.

Don't hesitate to accept your invite to The Block Party by Nicole Pyland!
In The Block Party, we experience falling in love from Talon's viewpoint who we were introduced to in The Writing On The Wall. This is a workplace romance and Talon & Emerson are instantly attracted to each other but face slight complications because Emerson has been hired as the new Director of Sales which makes her Talon's boss's boss. With their chemistry off the charts, we learn a parking garage comes in handy and unless you utilize one you might want to think twice before reading this STEAMY romance at work. ;)
Nicole is so talented at creating characters that are very relatable and you easily become involved emotionally with them on their journeys. The Block Party is book two in her Holiday Series and takes place during the same time as The Writing On The Wall (1st book) and I suggest reading it first.
I highly recommend reading The Block Party and how Talon & Emerson work together to in finding LOVE. Bonus: It also includes ice cream and a bouncy house! :)

I got "Block Party" before I finished "The Writing on the Wall", along with a note, do not read this before finishing "The Writing on the Wall". This is not the series to do that with. I guess you could read this before #1, but I agree, don't do it. I'm going to guess all the books in this series happen at the same time or somehow very similar timing? Going back to book 1 with that in mind there were little things that were fine, but knowing about #2 I thought maybe they were threads to explore?
The way the books are woven together is amazing I can't wait to get to the rest of the series to see how this plays out. You know the setup from the book blurp. Girl meets girl and work, girl is not a direct report to girl, but is in the report to chain. This book is about how they work that out. How Talon's people work with her through her insecurities. There are some with her personal and professional life. I think both our MCs do have good character growth. I think there's a good story told here. I like that this led up to "The Block Party".

We have the second book in the Holiday Series and this one is based on Talon and Emerson. We start at the New Years Eve Party from the first book but focus on Talon’s and also, Emerson’s perspective. Emerson immediately notices Talon and our story begins.

I was excited to start the second book in the series as we already had the start of the picture of the relationship but the deeper delve into Emerson and Talon’s relationship was enjoyable to read. While the first book was more cute with Annie and Wes (which I also enjoyed), this one way more steamy. Talon has a high libido and it was great to see that Emerson’s matches that (if not is a tad higher). They’re not only compatible in the sexual department, but they have good chemistry and communication outside of bedroom as well.

All in all a strong second book for the series and a very enjoyable read. I’m looking forward to the next.

Another good book from one of my favorite authors. It’s got everything you need for a great read: characters you like, an interesting storyline and a well deserved HEA. The story moves along smoothly without a lot of angst or the frustrating lack of communication that is all too common.

One of the best things about the book is that it’s part of a series. This series focuses on a tight knit group of college friends and how they’re doing 10 years later. Block Party picks up near the end of the first book (The Writing on the Wall) and there is some overlap. By the time you start this one, you’ve already met one of the main characters and several secondary players. It’s like picking up a old favorite and finding a part 2. You get to add to a universe you’re already comfortable with and build upon the relationships from prior stories. This one doesn’t disappoint and has me eagerly awaiting the next installment.

Warning: seriously steamy, but it fits into the storyline.
