Nick became a scientist so that he could build starships. Unfortunately, his ship is taking longer to build than he'd hoped, so fictional starships will have to do for now. Neptune's War was a fantastic ending to the series. I am going to be short and sweet here. Read the series. Try to put yourself in their shoes and feel the helplessness of the situations at hand. That will help you feel the successes that much more and understand the heartache that much deeper. The book and the series had all the hallmarks of a traditional story of love and loss with unsuspecting heroes and life-altering, sometimes ending, sacrifices. These books show what could be the best and worst of our species. I love how Nick Webb did not pull punches. There were parts I had to relisten to; not because I did not understand but because I could not believe what I was hearing.

Neptune book 3.

What a riveting story. Outstanding. Very artfully done. The characters seemed to fit right together. The short or clipped speech is different. But okay.

In the final epic struggle for Earth, everything becomes apparent, Walkers plans for Earth are identified, leaving several of her closest allies reeling and feeling betrayed. The Dawning finally comes into her own, and with some help from Nhean Tang, Walker’s mysterious benefactor from the first books, she reaches a new stage of evolution, a crossing of both species that leads to something that is both beautiful, and at the same time, terrifying in her new found power. Just as things start to come together for Walker, and she thinks that she has a chance of riding the Earth of Telestine influence, someone steals half the fleet, taking it to Neptune for the few hundred thousand rich people that have set up there.
Suddenly Walker is facing battles on multiple fronts, wondering who her real enemy is. Add to that the Telestines seem to be having a Civil war of their own, with the alleged Leader of the Aliens on one side, and a Religious Sect that operates amongst them, helping to keep humanity alive on the other. As this unfolds, with the destruction of Io, and then other locations, with a secret weapon of immense power, it becomes apparent that someone has the capability to not only destroy planets and cities, but also to destroy suns, and Earths might be next.
This book moves at an incredible pace, and when you finish it, and then look at what happened in the first chapter again, it is amazing the events that unfold from start to finish.
Webb has an amazing grasp of technology and physics from his real-life work, and he uses this to create some of the most amazing artefacts, weapons, ships and other toys for alien and human alike. The other brilliant aspect is the biological interaction that occurs, The Dawning, Dawn, is an incredible creation, made by one of the Telestine scientists, to be a cross-breed, and Webb again, does a fascinating job of creating this incredible character that is both alien, but very much human.
Webb has continued to grow his characters throughout the series, Walker, although the stiff Admiral, unwavering in her beliefs of what is right and what is wrong, and how to save humanity, is faced with soul-crushing decisions that will change the course of history depending on her choices. It is captivating watching her inner turmoil as she struggles with these decisions, and the impact it will have on those she loves. Pike is a fascinating character in this series, despised by so many for his heritage, and yet envied for it, hated and trusted at the same time. His character is exceptional and one of the best in the series, even though he doesn’t overly change, he stays pretty true to himself, it his strong values that make him so extraordinary. One of the best characters in the book has to be Rychenkov, Pike’s former Freighter Captain, turned mercenary/rebel. He is Pike’s mental barometer, but he is also absolutely hilarious. The only other character that is more amazing is Parees, who is like something out of a Greek tragedy. Parees is utterly brilliant, but I won't say anything and give anything away. There are multiple other exceptional characters in this book (series), too many to cover here without going on for pages. Needless to say, Webb writes deeply intricate characters that are incredibly life-like, you could those two (Pike and Rychenkov), sitting in a pub together, having a drink, laughing at something.
This is an extraordinary book, telling the tale of a group of heroes, leading a larger group of heroes aboard a ragtag fleet to save humanity against terrifying odds from an Alien species that has taken everything, banishing Humanity to the rest of the system. It is not just about these heroes though, there are those on the other side who have their own battles, issues that are equally as troubled.
With Epic space battles, stunning technology (that doesn’t leave you bored), incredible characters and an amazing storyline that is mystery, thriller, political intrigue, and all Sci-Fi, this is going to be one of the best books of the year from one of the best series of the decade from someone who will be remembered as this generations Clarke, Heinlein, or Asimov. Don’t miss it….

Great conclusion!

The first two books set the stage for what was sure to be a dramatic showdown and did not disappoint. Could not put it down.

An OK story line, albeit somewhat predictable. The science was crap. Nick does a great job of creating tension, AKA dramatic action. Doc Smith would be proud of this expansion of the Space Opera.

Excellent Close to Earth's Dawning Series

This series has been been a gripping read since the opening lines of Mercury's Bane, and Neptune's War continues that effort strongly indeed.

I found this book to be a veritable emotional rollercoaster both in the tension Nick Webb's plot wove and in the crazy whipsaw created by his characters. In some cases, I found myself going from loving a character to the blackest hate for them ... only to return to love as some things became clear. This made for a cast of characters whose outcomes I truly cared for (and in some cases still do). In particular I loved the fact that the Telestine characters were given much better development over the first two books, and actually became beings whose outcome I was more than just passing interested in. In short, Webb gave us no cardboard villains - or heroes - at all, and I can't praise that enough!

To that Webb added a plot with enough twists, turns and surprises - big and small - to constantly keep this reader on his toes. I am usually quite astute when it comes to figuring out where and author is going; and while we got to the point expected *eventually*, it was not without some surprises. That was a pleasure to this reader, and it kept coming right to the end - just when everything seems to be wrapped up, suddenly it's not! I expect at least one more book because of this. (When do we get it, Mr. Webb??)

All in all, thoroughly enjoyable book and series, and it gets a solid recommendation and 5 stars from this reviewer. I'll definitely be looking forward to more books from Nick Webb!

A great series of books by Mr. Webb. Read all three in order!

This book is the third of a series starting with Jupiter Sword. They are a series concerning the interactions between humans and an alien species that stole Earth and exiled all humans to outer space. People now live on various planets in the solar system and meteorites and space stations. It’s a pretty dismal life, in the dark as they mention often. Even in this situation there is a huge range of life style and creature comforts from awful for the miners working on Mercury or Saturn, the the richest of the rich living on palatial estates abov Venus. The conflict, betrayals, class infighting and more are all too human, on both the aliens and human side. The technology aspect of the books isn’t overwhelming as is often the case with Sci-Fi but is detailed well enough to appear plausible. The characters are well developed and believable. All in all a good read and I recommend all thee books. Just make sure you read them in order.

I loved this series!

I love the concept of space and aliens. As a Christian, how can be so conceited to think that God did not create other beings in his image? I love Nicks characters and the relationships that he builds with each of them. I don't get caught up in the mechanics of the spacecrafts as I don't even know how my car runs! :) I look forward to reading his other series.

Neptune's War, Book Three of the Earth Dawning Series is a great read.

I enjoyed the suspension of reality made possible by the Author's basic understanding of the possibilities associated with space exploration and the characters employed in the telling of the story.

Science fiction and action adventure fans will like this novel.

I rated it 5 Stars because of the fast pace and suspense throughout.

The series started out slow but ended with a bang. A must read.

The 2 sentences said it all. Dawn was the pleasant surprise. This is what the world is moving to, AI. The book also expressed how humans are easily manipulated by politicians. We never see truth usually until it is to late. Humans need to start becoming smarter.

It’s a good story

But I’m giving it a 3* because of the times I had to go back and reread whole chapters because of the abrupt changes in where the books I k was going Int.
Maybe I’ll read them again when no a few months and they won’t ok be easier to keep track of.
There is fodder here for a new series.

Bread read

Nick Webb’s writing style is frustrating; once I pick one of his books up, I am unable to put it down! I’ve run out of his books to read. Anticipation abounds regarding his next release.

The Dawn of a new adventure for Earth.

Excellent ending.
The hope for an earth living peacefully between the two races would be nice, but then you couldn't tell us what the future holds.
I look forward to your next series.
Please deliver it to us ASAP.
