I took my mate’s life ten years ago, and now I’m paying the price.
I thought when I buried Thane—literally—that the worst of my problems were over, but a decade later, and he’s still haunting me.
When his father decides to finally seek retribution for his son’s death, I’m back on the run. Worse, my pack can’t protect me. Only I can take care of myself.
At least that’s what I tell myself until I meet another wolf shifter. One possibly as stubborn as I’ve become.
He doesn't seem to have any intentions of leaving me alone and his persistence keeps me torn between wanting to cut him or jump him. Even worse, or so I want to believe, the longer I’m forced to be in Kyler’s presence, the more intrigued I become.
He promises to protect me, and as much as I try to convince myself he’s only doing his job, the lines I’d previously drawn begin to blur. The closer we get, the stronger our connection becomes, the more I start to wonder if I might have found something that I thought I’d never have.
That is if we can trust each other enough to survive the bloodshed.
This is a dual POV full length and complete standalone written in the Mystics and Mayhem world, but can easily be listened to on its own. For fans of fated and second chance mates, wolf shifters, and gripping paranormal romance listen!

This was the best omegaverse/shifter romance I have ever read. The FMC Sophie was sooo fierce and needed no help getting her revenge. I have never read a second chance mate story and I absolutely loved it. It was everything!! Action packed, spicy, and lots of angst and twists and turns. What an amazing book!
This was stunning! Absolutely addictive with pulses pounding action and delicious steamy moments. Sophie and Kyler couldn't have been more perfect for each other, and watching the second chance fated mates bond grown was simply fabulous. I loved the snark, the push and pull, the resistance, and the surrender, which were all beautifully written.
This standalone romance set in the mesmerizing Mystics and Mayhem universe is just brilliant entertainment with so many carefully woven threads that surpassed my imagination. Of course, meeting with old favorites made my heart fill with glee. But the icing on the cake was the potential story about one of my favorite protectors! I can't keep the smile from my face and my feet from doing a happy dance.
Heather Renee's words always keep me glued to her unputdownable pages, and this was just another jewel in her crown. The cover is glorious, and the characters are unforgettable!
A feisty second chance fated mates story between two lost souls trying to heal. The story was fast-paced and fun to read. I really enjoyed the push and pull between the characters. I also loved how they were able to speak to their wolves as well.
Some more reason to pick up this story are:
- second chance fated mates - shifters - knife to the throat - hurt/comfort - touch him/her and ☠️ - feisty and murdery FMC - Protective and caring MMC - A dash of spice
"I've always thought of that time I murdered my mate as the greatest day of my life."
Fractured Mates begins with this one line which for book openers is a pretty intriguing quote am I right? If you know anything about this world fated mates are supposed to cherish each other, there's this amazing bond between them that means that they are fully devoted to each other and taking care of the other and neither could do a single thing to harm a hair on each other's heads. Or so we thought, unfortunately if you also know this world not everyone is like our beloved characters and there are some terrible supernaturals out there, hence the above quote.
Never fear though, as Fractured Mates is a second chance fated mate romance so the shifter who believes in that quote, our bada** fmc Sophie who had to grow up much too early does get her second chance with a mate that adores her. Here enters Kyler, one of the protectors who works for Maciah and Amersyn. Both Kyler and Sophie have a reason to keep their hearts guarded after losing their mates but in completely different circumstances. Sophie was betrayed by her fated mate, and outcasted from her entire pack, when she was forced to kill her despicable mate after her tried to force her to mate with him. Kyler, on the other hand, lost the love of his life, his fated mate due to a car accident that snuffed out this one ray of light. Despite this, Kyler never loses his pure heart and his good nature whilst Sophie became jaded and untrusting, not really living her life, keeping everyone at arm's length she can't let go of her past.
After everything the both of them have been through their exactly what the other needs, Kyler needs to finally move on and stop letting his grief swallow him whole despite what his wolf thinks, his fated mate Cara wouldn't have wanted him alone forever. Sophie needs to experience what a true mate is, who will cherish the ground she walks on, who will take care of her, allow her to be who she is and not shame her for being slightly more bloodthirsty than the average mate.
I have to say I think the best part of this book was Sophie's Wolf, she just cracked me up, had me belly laughing so hard, she's so upfront and the inner conversations she has with Sophie about jumping Kyler's bones or any males before she meets him. The snarky, sassy comments were just so hilarious that I wish this book wasn't a standalone so we could get more of it. And we got more information about the drama that unfurled in A Pack Christmas along with a few more side characters. I also need the next book to be River's but I don't know if it will be but I need more about how he handles his mate!

Fractured Mates is a new standalone in the second phase of Heather's Mystics and Mayhem world. You don't have to have read any of her prior books to keep up with this world, but the mention of the other characters makes me want to reread them all!
I will never tire of this world. I devoured this book like my ferocious appetite does for chocolate. The world building and energy Heather always brings to her books is just phenomenal. The friendships, the love, loss, suspense, drama, intrigue and twists and turns, and oh such burning desire and spice. The chemistry between Sophie and Kyler is electrifying. You can't help but fall in love with these characters and champion them on from the sidelines.
The cover is just gorgeous and the unexpected character art is beautiful as well.
As the angst and excitement was near crescendo, I was getting quite scared as Heather is known for her absolutely brutal cliffhangers, and even although I knew this was a standalone, I'm sure my heart actually stopped beating with the suspense. But fear not, the ending was all I craved and more. It also paved the way for more characters. Heather states there will be more, but I beg of you Heather, I'm so impatient to read both River & Lykem's stories. Please pretty please I need them in my life. I'll quite happily beg 🙏🙏
If fierce, yet relatable leading ladies and strong alpha males who sweep them off their feet, along with humour, intrigue, angst and suspense that keeps you turning the pages is on your list, then this book should absolutely be a part of your world. I highly recommend it 🐺🐉❤️🔥🫶👌
Fractured Mates is a standalone in The Mystics and Mayhem Universe, a second-chance romance that took me a little by surprise. Fate got it wrong, or did they? That's the question.
So... I didn't like Sophie. I found her annoying and at times self-centered. I just didn't vibe with her but I can acknowledge what a total badass she was. Girl knows how to handle herself (for the most part) plus it helps that she has a crazy obsession with food and she has a wise but snark wolf who doesn't hold any punches when it comes to her ridiculousness. It was hilarious.
Kyler has been through a lot but he turned his pain into something. He's one of the Protectors, he dedicates his life to helping people. He's a good soul, I loved his snark, sass, and playfulness, plus that smirk is something else. It also doesn't hurt that he has a bit of darkness that can make my skin sizzle.
The plot was entertaining, seeing both Kyler and Sophia get their second shot at love, however, it was the adventure that got me. Oddly enough this was a road trip book with all the stuff you'd expect, supernatural meet-ups, sketchy motels, all the snacks but then add in wolves, conspiracies, pack politics, and family drama, and it was great. I might not have liked Sophie very much but I liked the story.
I was surprised to realize that this plot ties in with A Pack Christmas, it serves as a holiday prequel. There was a big reveal that seemed to set up things for this stage in the Mystics universe. The holiday novella doesn't have to be read but it's a good novella and I'd suggest it. Either way Fractured Mates is a great addition to the Mystics universe.
This is a stand alone novel in the Mystics and Mayhem world. You do not need to read any of the other books to understand this one but you do see characters from the Mystic and Mayhem world in this story.
This story follows Kyler and Sophie, both who have lost their mates either by an accident or on purpose. Each story is sad in their own way and I felt bad for both of them. Sophie and Kyler come together under tense circumstances and those moment of tension lead into other feelings. This story held my attention so much so that I read it in one sitting. The story, while heartbreaking, is also a lesson in healing. I love this amazing world that Author Heather Renee has built and it was fun seeing all of the characters from past books. The Mystics and Mayhem world is a fantastical place but I love to visit through the pages that Heather gives us. Again, this is a standalone but we do see a possibility for future books and I am keeping my fingers crossed for those. Thank you for writing other amazing story!
However, there were times I wanted to strangle her. She never thinks she just does. Consequences be danged. She never thinks of others either. I think Kyler is the perfect yin to her yang. Kyler is perfect in every way. He's patient, protective, kind, respectful, & sexy! Sophie is interesting she killed her fated mate for trying to rape her. Then runs away & keeps running. Never putting down roots even when the protectors put her in Romans pack. Of course, there is so much more going on in Sophie's old pack that she screws up by not listening to anyone. She was warned by Dawyson & Kyler. And later Maciah. Yet she did what she wanted & poor Kyler was along for the ride to keep her safe because they were fated mates. Kyler didn't want to believe it. His wolf would barely speak to him because he felt they were betraying his first fated mate. However, second chances do happen. You will also learn of another wolf that is well loved in the series getting his mate.
I can’t get enough of the Mystics and Mayhem universe, it’s just fantastic! ❤️🔥 Sophie and Kyler's love story took me by surprise, a fantastic surprise! 🤯💕 I love, love, love this book!, it took me up and down through all kind of emotions, making me tear some times, and laugh-out-loud other times! 🎢 #crazyrollercoasterofemotions Sophie is a hard to understand character, but we can't deny how strong and resilient she is; after what she went through, I don’t judge her at all; and her wolf is the freaking best ever, I love her! 🐺🖤 #freakingbadass #foodlover #foodaddict 😁 Kyler is so HAF! ❤️🔥... I will ask again: how many book boyfriends are too many? 😂 You can't avoid falling for him; just read this book to find out why, you will not regret it! 🥵 Oh, and we have an introduction about the next standalone book, featuring one of our beloved characters in this amazing world I can't wait to read! 😍❤️🔥 #itisnotoveryet #M&Mstandalones #Mystics&MayhemUniverse
Ok, I want to start by saying that I really did enjoy this book, like a lot. The only reason I gave it such a low rating is because of the fact that, where I enjoy reading about strong female leads that are independent and stubborn, I do not enjoy reading about them when they are as selfish as Sophie was in this and how she expected Kyler to change and go along with what she wanted but she would never stop and listen to him when he was being logical and had valid thoughts and concerns. It drove me insane how many times she ran into danger thinking she was such a bada** and that she was going to get her revenge when all that happened is that she and Kyler almost lost their lives. Then her revenge took precedence over the good of the many all because of what Astor's son did 10 years prior. I get going through something traumatizing and wanting to get closure for it but it just seemed that she thought want she wanted was better that what should have been done.
If you haven't read any books in the Mystics and Mayhem world yet and want to give one a try this stand alone will draw you into the world! Heather does a great job infusing laughter and heart into her stories. I love how she gives each character their own voice and personality, whether you love them or want to smack them. Sophie has a horrible past she escaped from and what looks like a lonely road ahead, but her past draws her back to where she grew up and she has to face her past before she can be free from it. Both Sophie and Kyler had a hard road to walk before they found each other. I loved how their bond helps them heal from their past and gives them hope for the future. If you love fated mates, second chance romances, grumpy sunshine, shifters, and if you have ever had a love affair with food, you will love this story.
Heather has brought us back to the Mystics and Mayhem world with this entertaining standalone that has everything, second chances, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, and bad ass wolf shifters. I have always loved the characters that she has created but these two are definitely some of my favorites. Sophie and her feisty wolf🤣 so full of sass, but also so much strength, courage and determination. Kyler determined to do his job and protect Sophie with everything he has. Both are feeling the loss of their mates in different ways and so unsure of the pull between them. Heather did such an amazing job telling their story and incorporating them into the Mystics and Mayhem world. This was a sit down and read and leave me alone until it is done. After reading the sneak peek at the end of the book I can not wait until it comes out!
OMG - Sophie is a spitfire with an attitude and determination! Poor Kyler has to deal with her. The first meeting did not go well. Kyler was sent to keep her from going back to her very dangerous pack - except she is not having it. Lol You have to read their story and be prepared to laugh and pity Kyler. Sophie is a hand full of stubbornness, determination, and doesn't trust anyone. She had an awful childhood. Her parents and her fated mate tried forcing her to complete the bond at a young age. When he pressed the tried forcing her, she killed him. Kyle's fated mate was killed in a car accident. Her injuries were to serve for her wolf healing abilities. Kyler has been in mourning for many years. He joined the protectors to escape his loss. Then it leads him to Sophie. A great story with part of the gang in this book.
Sophie has been running all her life and when she finally decides to stop running and face her past she finds herself being blocked at every turn. Her old pack wants her dead, her new pack just wants to keep her safe and the man charged with doing that finds himself at odds with both his wolf and his boss as he tries to protect Sophie and still allow her the chance to gain closure on her past. With plenty of our familiar characters from the Mystics and Mayhem books, some new characters and connections will keep you enthralled and engaged till the very last page this story was one I finished in a single sitting. HIGHLY recommend both this author and this story.
This is a fantastic story and I loved, loved, loved Sophie and Kyler.
Sophie is strong, independent, resilient and snarky. Kyler is protective, loyal, smexy and a really nice guy. They both lost their fated mates in vastly different circumstances years ago.
This is a second chance fated mates romance set in the Mystics and Mayhem world. There’s action, shifters, tension and humour. Sophie’s wolf is the absolute best and will have you laughing out loud with her sassy commentary.
This book had me completely hooked and I was invested in these characters and their story. It was such a great read and I didn’t hesitate to give it 5 ⭐️’s.
This book is a true standalone in the Mystics and Mayhem world. The beloved characters from previous stories are minor and are written so you easily know who they are and what they do.
The story is fast paced and full of action. Kyler is a wolf shifter protector. He’s not an alpha but is no pushover. He’s great. Sophie is strong and independent but she’s rude, selfish, and impulsive. I missed the fun snarky female main characters I am used to seeing. They are second chance mates and are caught up in a larger plot. It’s a great read in this world and their storyline wraps up nicely.
To be honest, at the start, I had some troubles getting into the story. I was a little annoyed with the heroine and it just got to me. But, I love Heather Renee as an author so I wanted to push through and didn't stop reading and I'm glad I did, because once the book got on its way, it got so much better and I really started to get invested. In the end, I'm glad I read it, really enjoyed it and would recommend it. It was an easy and quick read and also a standalone, which was so great for once!
My goodness. I think Sophie is the fiercest main character Heather Renee has ever written. And Kyler as the MMC has incredible depth. I love dual-POV books so we can get inside everyone's heads. Both Sophie and Kyler have dealt with major losses throughout their lives, so there are internal emotional battles for both of them throughout the book. You get to see some of your favorite characters from the other books in Heather's Mystics & Mayhem world in Fractured Mates, but it can be read on its own without any confusion.
The storyline for “Fractured Mates”, a novel in the world of Mystics and Mayhem, by Heather Renee, is full of emotion, action, and redemption. Sophie and Kyler’s chemistry is very well written. As a reader, you are drawn in right away to their story. It was an exciting read that had me biting my nails at times. As the first standalone novel in the Mystics and Mayhem world it had all you need in one book. However, I do look forward to seeing more of Sophie and Kyler is other Mystics and Mayhem novels.
This was an awesome second chance fated mates. Sophie and Kyler both lost their original fated mates for vastly different reasons. And neither one thought they’d get another fated mate but fate has other ideas for these two. Sophie was such a feisty and firey main character. She was so strong. It was great to get to see both PoVs since it gave insight into what was going on with both of them. It added more depth to the romance. There’s a lot of action and I was biting my nails in a few places. This was so worth the read! I absolutely loved it!
This is a page turner. I think that Sophie is the most fierce in the Mystics and Mayhem series. She has been alone for 10 yrs after escaping her pack. She has to go back to see how her family is after she killed her mate. Even after all this time they're waiting for her and she's ambushed. Dawson sends a protector, Kyler to bring her back but sparks fly. They've each already had their fared mates, what is this? Some of the previous characters from the other M & M books are in this, which I love. So read this, you won't be disappointed.
This is a standalone in the Mystics and Mayhem universe. I suggest reading after the Hidden Realm series. Kyler and Sofie have both lost their Fated mates. Kyler was called to be protection and back up for Sofie. They both started to sense more than just attraction. The Luna Goddess has granted them both a second chance at finding their Fated Mates. Loved this book so much. Sofie is a feisty food lover after my own heart.
Vanessa Moyen and Adam Gold did a phenomenal job narrating these to characters.
Every single book in the universe is amazing, so many stories and loves, and family its perfect how they all work to build this incredible world. I of course loved Sophie and Kyler from the get go, sometimes the road to live can messy nd bumpy and hard but big can't be worth it!!! Loved the redemption and triumph in this book, made me smile!! If you have started this series from book 1 series one I don't know why your waiting its worth the ride for sure!
I adore the Mystics and Mayhem universe and this addition was no different! Standalone with connections to other books.
As I've come to expect from Heather Renee, Sophie is a strong character full of sass, snark and humour! She may be in the running for my favourite FMC yet! I loved following her growth through the twists and turns the story took us on. Just read it, or you're missing out!
Sophie and Kyler experienced so much throughout this book that the ending was simply perfect! However, I am anxious to see how things go from here on out with the few twists at the end. Heather has created this world with so many amazing characters that you can always count on a cameo or two from previous favorites. Highly recommend this one and can’t wait for the next story in this world!
This is a stand alone novel in the Mystics and Mayhem universe.
The story is wolf/shifter romance. It is filled with plenty of action scenes and some spicy moments.
The plot outline was great and the story flowed well.
I did find the FMC a little annoying at first, but she grew on me as the story unfolded. She is a strong and resilient person who has been through a lot, alone.
The MMC I instantly loved. Great persona.
The story flowed at a medium pace and closed out nicely.
This is a stand alone novel in the Mystics and Mayhem world.
This story i loved from start to finish i loved Sophie and her humor and baddass attitude and then Kyler the Protector both have lost their mates and now they have second chance with love. I highly reccomend this book and i really hope Heather writes more books in this world standalone or series
I love coming back to this world Heather made. Meeting new characters while old characters make appearances is the best. Sophie and Kyler are just great characters that heal each other. I love them both and hope to see them in future books because the conflict in this book is not totally resolved.
Fractured Mates is an AMAZING read and a great addition to the Mystics & Mayhem world that you didn’t have to read any other books prior as it’s a stand-alone. Although M&M is such an incredible series that you should want to check it out to discover the marvelous world and incredible characters Heather Renee has created!! Would love to read more!!
I usually love the female characters in the Mystics and Mayhem world as they are strong and loyal but I just found Sophie irritating, rude and extremely selfish putting her own wants of vengeance before anything else. I ended up skipping through most of the book just so I know what is happening for the next book in th3 series.
