The romance took a backseat in this one, but I still enjoyed it! The couple didnt spend enough 'content and happy' time together as I would have liked but I still enjoyed it! There was a lot of needless miscommunication but I still enjoyed it. So all in all, this is turning out to be a really great series. I can not wait for Keras book!!! Would def suggest you read these books in order. While you could read this as a standalone, you would be super confused if you did.
Safety: No cheating, no other people after meeting, no separation H not a manwhore, heroine not a virgin H loved another woman in the past that betrayed him which causes him to distrust the heroine for a majority of the book. Not my favorite trope, but the heroine was a fighter. Theres one scene that irked me, and its where the H is being tricked by a deamon illusionist pretending to be his ex that betrayed him. He's already met and knows he has a connection with the heroine at this point, so I thought it was annoying he still acted so hung up on the ex when he thought she was near.

It's been a couple of years since the last book in the Guardians of Hades series was released so while I was excited to dive back into this world I did worry that I might get confused and not remember enough about the previous stories. Luckily Felicity Heaton did a great job of bringing me back up to speed and within a few pages I was just happy to be back with these characters.
Marek is luckier than some of his brothers when it comes to his abilities and they cause less problems for him in the human realm but he has spent hundreds of years caught up on a previous betrayal and spends his time sneaking around hunting vampires when his brothers' backs are turned. It is during one of these attacks that he first meets Caterina who is also hunting vampires but for very different reasons to Marek. Caterina may be human but she's aware of the supernatural so although she doesn't immediately recognise Marek for what he is she does understand that he's not a normal human. The two bond pretty quickly over their mutual dislike of the vampires but Caterina's life takes a very difficult turn when she is targeted by Marek's enemies.
I don't want to say too much about what happens to Caterina but it was definitely shocking and there were some really interesting developments in the ongoing story arc throughout this instalment of the series. As much as I enjoyed the romance between Marek and Caterina I also loved getting to find out more about Calistos and about all of the brothers' backgrounds. Their enemies are building up to something big and I think the action is only going to get more intense in the next couple of books.
Marek is the fourth book in the Guardians of Hades series by Felicity Heaton. I think it is a good idea to read the other books first so that you fully understand the characters and what they have already been up to until this instalment.
The blurb of this book is more than enough to explain what happens in Marek's story. All that is needed for this review is my personal opinion of it, and that opinion is that the story is a real page-turner!
I have read many of this author's books and although she is a favourite of mine, occasionally I can't give a 5-star review. I am happy to say that this book more than earns that rating. The characters despite being gods of the underworld are so loveable. The way they protect their women is so special. They even make sure that their brothers don't get too close to their women or all hell can break loose. Those scenes made for some fun moments. As well as romance and some very steamy passionate scenes, the stories are exciting with suspense, danger and some doublecrossing as well. There is never a dull moment and I couldn't read the book quickly enough to find out how it could possibly have a happy ending. At times it seemed impossible but the author managed it beautifully and believably.
Marek has been living with his six brothers protecting the gates to the Underworld. Daemons are determined to gain access and create havoc and they spend their time hunting vampires as well. On one of his hunts though, Marek ends up finding Caterina who peaks his interest. His interest though is hindered a bit by the secrets both are holding and Caterina's is a big one that could have Marek turning on her, will he?
What I like about the characters in Guardians of Hades series is that the men have issues they have to come to grips with. A lot of this style books you don't see that vulnerability in the male characters as they ooze confidence and alpha male all over the place, there is a hidden depth to this author's character which I appreciate. I liked Caterina a lot, she was a perfect match to Marek. Another great read in this series.
4.25 stars--MAREK is the fourth instalment in Felicity Heaton’s contemporary, adult GUARDIANS OF HADES erotic, paranormal/fantasy romance series very loosely based in Greek mythology, focusing on seven brothers- the sons of Hades and Persephone -sent to Earth to guard the gates to the Underworld. This is Prince of the Underworld and Lord of Earth Marek, and vampire hunter / human Caterina’s story line. MAREK can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order as the brothers struggle against an unknown enemy to keep the human world and the Underworld from colliding.
NOTE: The Guardians of Hades series is Felicity Heaton’s interpretation of, and does not follow, the actual Greek mythological family tree or events.
Told from several third person perspectives including Marek and Caterina MAREK follows the building relationship between Prince of the Underworld and Lord of Earth Marek, and vampire hunter / human Caterina. Approximately ten years earlier Caterina’s brother Guillem was attacked, and Caterina is desperate to find a cure to prevent her brother from becoming a vampire but ten years of hunting and killing vampires, and her brother remains a shell of his former self, slowly succumbing to whatever disease is slowly eating away at his body. Caterina isn’t the only hunter in Barcelona destroying the hundreds of nests of vampires in her city, and in this Caterina struggles with her attraction to the warrior who may or may not be human himself. Enter Prince of the Underworld and Lord of Earth Marek, the man/the god with whom Caterina will fall in love but all does not go well for our story line couple when Caterina is targeted, and finds herself doing the bidding of someone who promises to fix what ails her dying brother, a bidding that will cost Caterina her humanity. What ensues is the slow building relationship between Caterina and Marek, and the potential fall-out as Caterina becomes the puppet of a powerful enemy, threatening to destroy Marek to take control of the Gates to the Underworld.
Marek despises the vampire with every fibre of his being having been betrayed by one in his past. Alone in his quest to take down the vampires, Marek battles between head and heart when he discovers another ‘warrior’ as desperate as he to kill the vampires that broke his heart but protecting the Gates to the Underworld comes at a cost, as Marek and his brothers find themselves in a constant battle with the numerous daemons that are constantly coming through the portals of H*ll.
Caterina is determined to destroy every vampire in existence believing one of the vampires is her brother’s maker but the more vampires Caterina kills, her brother becomes weaker with no sign of recovery. Meeting Marek, a man who claims not to be human, finds Caterina working together in an effort to rid the city of her brother’s ‘killer’ but working together means their mutual attraction grows with every encounter.
The relationship between Caterina and Marek is slow to build. Marek is at the command of his father, as well as the summons of the gate he continues to guard but someone or something is trying to gain access to the Underworld, using both Caterina and Marek in their endeavour, placing Caterina in the direct line of fire when Marek’s enemies forces Caterina to turn on the man with whom she is falling in love. The $ex scenes are passionate and intimate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
Once again, all of Marek’s brothers including Ares and his mate Megan (ARES #1), Valen and his mate Eva (VALEN #2), Esher and Aiko (ESHER #30) Daimon, eldest brother Keras, , and baby brother Calistos play secondary and supporting roles; their mother Persephone, and their father Hades, as well as a number of daemons, shape-shifters, and wraiths. We are introduced to Caterina’s brother Guillem, who finally succumbs to the powers slowly taking over his body.
MAREK is an action packed, ensemble story line wherein the reader is privileged to the internal dialogue, introspection and thoughts of the leading characters. Marek is compelled to kill the vampires he blames for betrayal; Caterina is hoping to cure the brother she so desperately loves. The premise is engaging, energetic and captivating; the characters are colorful, dynamic and spirited; the romance is seductive and steamy.
Dear gods..... This series is just getting better....and it's all kicking off in Marek's book!!I
Felicity Heaton definitely knows how to weave magic through her stories that keep you hooked on the characters, the story arc and the worlds she builds. I could barely put my kindle down while reading as I needed to know what was coming next - but the need for food and to deal with the family found me having to pause occasionally......
The lead couple in book four meet while they're both out hunting a mutual prey they have, but for very different reasons. Marek knows from the get go that there's something about Caterina, in the way she makes him feel and react. She's aware that he's not a mortal but initially has no idea exactly what he is....
The enemy that has been working against the brothers since Ares' book will use any advantage to get what they want, as we know from previously, so it stands to reason that Caterina was likely gonna be a target...... but it appears they've upped their game and are more nefarious than ever!!
As the brothers adversaries seem to grow in audacity and the level of the beings involved in the uprising starts to become a little more apparent, things are not all lost for the siblings as the strength and numbers of their own group is also growing.
Betrayal, treachery, heartbreak and deceit all feature heavily in this instalment. The action, mystery and suspense are ramped up and the story is gaining even more momentum as the series continues. Some clues as to what has occurred in the past of at least one of the brothers seems (to me) to be thrown into the mix and I'm looking forward to finding out if I'm any where near the mark.
I'm itching to find out what Calistos' story is, we know a little about him as with each book that passes Felicity feeds us teeny bits more about the brothers we've still to read about and the youngest of the Guardians story intrigues me!
The Guardians of Hades series is a must read IMHO if you are a PNR fan. Marek is a great addition and gets a definite 5* from me!!!
* * * * I received a copy of the book from the author for an honest review - but have also pre ordered my own kindle copy
Man, Hades's boys have it rough. Not only were they banished from the Underworld, they have to watch their mouths, guard the gates to the Underworld, and deal with everything thrown at them. When I say everything, I mean things like heartache over a betrayal, heartache over their murdered sister, etc, etc.
Basically, they're all a hot mess stitched into the bodies of warriors.
Marek definitely has a few demons he's battling. Literally, some nights. Crossing paths with Caterina should be just another night on the job, but it's a whole lot more than that. Whole lot. He's drawn to her and she's kinda into him. Except they both have a few pesky secrets they're holding close to the vest.
You know, like he's a god and she's sheltering a vampire. By the by, Marek HATES vampires and demons of their ilk, so there are more than a few speed bumps on their road to happily ever after.
Meanwhile, things are heating up with the group trying to breach the portals. Information is obtained. A little death and dismemberment takes place. VERY BAD THINGS HAPPEN.
Familiar faces, celebratory news, more clues on how to find their dead sister. This is a strange, dangerous world and I kinda like it.
As Miss Felicity continues the "Guardians Of Hades" series, we're told the story of Marek. And it's delicious! Adventurous storyline and plot, previous characters help the story along, new and challenging characters, it's simply badass and sexy! If you love Greek mythology with thrilling twists and turns, you'll love this story, this series! Nothing short of amazing!
Marek is the fourth book in the Guardians of Hades series and I really couldn't wait for the researcher's story! He has been hinted at in the previous books but, of course, you don't find out much until he gets his own story.
Marek has his past that he is 'dealing' with. Well, he's not, not really, but it makes him feel better. Caterina goes out hunting vampires every night because she thinks if she kills his sire, her brother will return to 'normal'. When these two meet, sparks fly... literally!
Poor Marek! And poor Caterina!! Both of them were hurting before they found each other, but even then, it didn't go smoothly. Now, of course, I know it never does, but these two really had it bad. How about turning into something the man you're falling for hates and literally fights every day? Yeah, not easy. However, in true Felicity Heaton style, they not only managed to overcome these obstacles but also found their HEA along the way. Of course, they also found murder, more mystery, betrayal, and heartbreak but it's all for a good cause! 😉
This is such a great series and Marek is a fantastic addition to it. A thoroughly enjoyable story from start to finish, with cameos from the other brothers, and plenty of steam between our two main characters. Absolutely brilliant and I can definitely recommend it. Now, bring on the next!
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Marek is the fourth book in the Guardians of Hades series. I loved it!
Marek is one of six son's of Hades. He is an intriguing character, and I liked him a lot. When he was first introduced in the series, I thought Marek was the more studious brother since he enjoyed researching. However, he is also a fierce warrior. I found it a pleasure to get to see into his life. There is a darkness within Marek that was not immediately obvious. It's this darkness that leads him to crossing paths with Caterina.
Caterina is a woman on a mission. I liked her spunky-ness and determination to save her brother. Family is important to her since it's just her and her brother. When a stranger helps her fight vampires, she is intrigued by him. Unfortunately, she gets pulled into the tug-of-war between Marek's family and their enemy, and her life will never return to normal.
It's been a year since the last Guardians of Hades book, and I've been eagerly awaiting Marek's story. I started to read and was pulled back into the fantastic world built by the author.
It was a pleasure meeting the other brothers and their new loves once more. Hades and Persephone also make an appearance; they are typical parents - overprotective and loving. Karas and Calistos are the only two brothers who haven't had their stories told yet. However, the author made mention of Calistos's twin, Calindria, who had died several years before. It made me wonder if she could still potentially be alive somewhere when someone close to her briefly made an appearance, however, back to the review.
The brothers still have a lot to do to avoid the prediction the Morai made about the human world and Underworld's impending collision. I was glad, however, when a specific character met their fate, but now wonder if Caterina's brother will play a more prominent role at some point. There are fast-paced fight scenes, which are this author's forte. She can bring them to life, so I always enjoy those, and the romance between Marek and Caterina scorched the pages even though there weren't as many opportunities for togetherness.
I am now looking forward to reading Calistos's story soon.
Felicity Heaton has written another fast-paced, sexy paranormal romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. I love her fast-paced writing style, which flows effortlessly from scene to scene. She is on top of my favourite author's list.
Each book of this series could be read as a stand-alone, as this one does not end in a cliffhanger, though I would recommend reading them in order. I do not recommend this book to younger readers due to the extremely HOT and explicit sexual scenes. However, I highly recommend this book (and series) if you love sexy paranormal romances full of gods and daemons. - Lynn Worton
Mareks story was the one who I was kinda less interested. I started it and then I could't get into it for a while.
At this point all the books are fairly similar (as most of the time in other series as well), the hero encounters the girl and he can't stop thinking about anything else, he is obsessive and protective of her. So kinda the same, and I ensure, I don't expect anything else as I know it will lead to HEA. But I have given 4 stars and I now need to figure out why, because I forgot as couple days has passed and other books in-between and work and really life, of course, have been in the way...
Whats in my memory most is that I really want to find out Keras story, it's getting complicated and I'm really annoyed at him and Enyo. 200 years and they are in denial of each other, but obviously it affects them more and more, specially Keras, as mostly only he is losing his mind and temper because of her. Can't wait to see, 2 more books in-between.
Marek and Caterina seam more real or more human, their actions and reactions seem more real or closer to what I would expect at certain situations. In revers situations they both would react the same. Caterina would still put her brother first at least at the beginning, would believe anything anyone would say that he can get better. As well that she realised she have pushed her will on him for 9 years, never realising what actually he wanted (but then what kind of man can do that for 9 years). Mareks reaction to her when she started to change was pretty natural in my eyes, of-course it was little bit more violent, but we can't forget that all brothers are demon slayers and their instincts work around violence. To be honest I couldn't believe that he did actually put her into a cell... you know I was waiting any minute he will change his mind... but he did withstand it. As well when his brothers interrogated her... I was disappointed at first but then I was disappointed at them as they did't even do anything. Yes she was scared and intimidated by them, but thats it... No harm was done.
At this point Hades cracks me up, he will do whatever Perphespone dishes at him, whatever she wants will be done...as scary as he is, he can't do much against her wishes. And her acts just gets bolder and bolder in each book. As well it was very touching to see how excited they were about grandchild on the way, the sadness they showed and that finally shows more how the death of the only daughter was a tragedy to all of them. Book by book I believe it more and more.
I thin it was a goo dated book. Looking forward for more.

Wow.. I have to admit that I went back to book one Ares a few weeks before Marek was released so I could get a refresher on the Guardians of Hades and I am glad I did. Heaton's Marek will begin were Esher ended, so I would say this is a series that needs to be read in order. Marek is packed with all the goodies that I feel make up a 5 Star Paranormal story, angst, suspense, love, humor, heartbreak , adventure and sexy time between the sheets . Marek is the one of the middle children of Hades and the beautiful Persephone. Each sibling has special powers some they share, a few that is all their own. The God that they are either named after or favor has blessed each sibling with a birthmark. Marek is an Earth Element who has been sent along with his six brothers to protect the mortal world and the Underworld from merging together. The Guardians are keepers of the gates that lead to the Underworld. Nasty creatures called daemons are trying to get back to the Underworld and they have been scheming with other enemies of Hades. Marek also has a thing for destroying all Vampires in the mortal world. While he seeks a nest of Vamps he will partner up with a mortal named Caterina. She is trying to save her brother. Chemistry from these two characters is explosive from beginning to end. Marek and his brothers have a ruthless group made up of daemons, incubus, a.wrath, and a shapeshifter and something else after them, this group is trying to take over both the Mortal world and Underworld. This group of evil will also do anything to the people the brothers care for. Can the Guardians defeat the ones trying to destroy everything. Heaton gives us more answers, some surprises but more questions. Heaton took me on a magical ride with these characters based on Greek Mythology and a mystical world she has created. This series and story is another hit for Heaton. Absolutely loved the Guardians of Hades. I can't wait for Keras story but Calistos is my second favorite character and he is up next. Happy Reading!!
Marek the Guardian of the gate In Seville and the “earth” element is book 4.
Marek is on a mission, to seek out and destroy all and any vampires he comes across. Betrayed by a lover, he slaughtered her nest and now he’s on a mission to wipe them all out!!
Caterina is looking for a cure for her beloved brother. Bitten by a vampire, he’s slowly dying, he hasn’t got much longer, so if she can find his “sire”, then Caterina hopes he will become human again. Looking for vampire nests in Barcelona she hopes to come across the vampire and kill it, before it kills her brother!!
Coming across Caterina was a surprise, and before he knows what’s hit him, he has a partner to back him up on the hunt. But what will he do when he finds out her secret? Will he help or will he end her brother’s life?
Caterina wasn’t expecting to find out that not only do vampires exist, but other monsters and gods roam this earth too. Can she trust Marek with her brothers secret, or will she walk away to protect him?
This book was a total surprise, I wasn’t sure of Marek’s background story. We know something dark happens in his past, but being betrayed by a vampire lover, wasn’t one of them. And it has to be a big betrayal as he’s bent on taking them all out, and he’s not suppose to!! (Vampires are permitted to go to and from the underworld) He’s also in the middle of his brother’s “love life” and he hates that his brother Keras doesn’t speak to him unless he has to! (The story between Keras and the goddess of war looks to be a long standing one, and will I’m sure the story will be a good one) Have to admit I was a little taken aback with how quick the main characters fell for each other (considering how in love he was previously!) but what he feels for Caterina is completely different from what he felt with Airlea. Liked how the storyline is different from the rest (in fact all the stories are different) It’s great that we get a little more information with each story that’s told. The ongoing war with the unseen forces that want control of both the underworld and this one.
And the surprises just kept coming in this one.....
As all the books in this series, it’s really well written, fast paced, loaded with fight scenes and twists. We interact with all the brothers and the women in their lives. We laugh along with the funny moments. And I wanted to shake them too!! And a few moments had me reaching for the tissues!!
The series is coming to an end soon 😒and that’s sad! But I’m looking forward to reading the next brother.
It feels like forever since books 3 of Guardians of Hades (24th March 2018), in fact it has been but oh my it was so so worth the wait. If you aren't familiar with the series it's about six brothers who are Hades' children, they have been banished from their home to keep the mortal realm from combining with the Underworld by protecting the gates that lead there from daemons. So far we have had Ares, Valen, and Esher's stories, book four is for Marek though we have met all the brothers along the way.
You get a few different POVs in this book but mostly they are of Marek and Caterina, but there is one thrown in from Calistos who will be the male lead in book five which is due out at the end of July. I really like Caterina, she is a mere mortal but is fiercely protective of her brother who has been turned into a vampire. Urging him not to feel from another human, she has been tracking the vampires where she lives in hopes she can find the one who turned him and end their existence and make her brother human again. When it turns out she and Marek are tracking the same group of vampires, Marek is furious wanting to claim his kill but also protect the fiery-tempered human.
Marek and Caterina definitely start their relationship off on a rocky start, which later becomes full of lust that they inevitably give in to. I love the fact this book wasn't insta-love as that one thing that really bugs me. You can see there is a connection between the two but as mentioned it starts off as lust rather than love.
This is another great read by author Felicity Heaton, and while I would recommend you read these books in order they can of course be read individually. It's a rollercoaster ride from start to finish, and one I was really looking forward to coming out and I wasn't disappointed. Now bring on July so I can read more about Hades' youngest son, Calistos.
Marek has been guarding the gates for two centuries along with his brothers . They are keeping out the ones that want to enter hell and destroy it . Everything is going good until the night he is on a hunt and run into Caterina . The one woman that can ignite something in him that will have him fighting for her and with her against the darkness . When the enemy emerges Caterina is pulled down a rabbit hole that she might not come back from and Marek must over come his pride to bring them out of this alive . Marek and the men in this book well lets just say are hot , hot , hot . Tall, sexy and oh so brooding . Marek is the middle child of Hades and Persephone . He is also the earth element . He is oh so sexy but is also a little scary when it comes to protecting his own. He is also a skilled vampire hunter and will do anything to help eradicate them . Caterina is well she is feisty and sassy but there is a side to her that is vulnerable and sweet. She is also a vampire hunter that will kick your butt just as soon as look at you . But like any great heroine she has a secret that might doom her . These characters are well written an complex and you will love them so much . This is a story that will take you away to a magical place where the men are more then men but Gods of the underworld . The women in their lives are just as tough as the men . The author has us on the edge of our seats most of the way through this book . She really knows how to write a story full of angst , suspense. love and oh so sexy times . Trust me you will shed a tear , laugh and fan yourself through out this book . I truly like this series and would say that you start reading from the beginning and get introduced to all the men . You will love every moment with these men . So check them out .
Wow what a book i didn’t want this too end and I wish I didn’t have to take breaks while reading because I had to feed the kids so I stayed up all night last night till 4am to read it from the start and by god I wasn’t disappointed. Marek is the son of hades lord of underworld and he’s been banished along with his brothers to protect the gates to the other world from all sorts of daemons ,vampires and other things that go bump in the night, Marek has a Darkness to him and is extremely dangerous as well as bloody gorgeous, he’s been betrayed and because of this betrayal his hunger and thirst for vengeance and blood is controlling and driving him , but when he meets the fearless Caterina he’s torn between his thirst and hunger to kill her and protect her. Caterina is looking for a cure for her brother and will do anything to get it even if killing every vampire in the city is what it takes and nothing will stop her not even the gorgeous and brooding God Marek who not only infuriates her but drives her crazy with desire. Marek and Caterina agree to join forces to take out a nest off vampires there hunger grows for each other and they can’t control it but Caterina is hiding a secret a secret that could cost her not only the man she’s falling for but her brothers life. With Caterinas brothers life at stake she makes a deal with the devil The man she’s falling for In exchange for her brothers life. Between Beasts, darkness betrayal and all kinds of hell will Marek and Caterina loves be enough or will they be driven by duty and kill each other. This is book 4 in the Guardians Of Hades series and I honestly can’t wait to read book 5 . Felicity heatons books are always amazing and she didn’t disappoint 5* absolutely amazing
Fun, exciting beginning to this story; it really pulled me in. Some cool action, and the banter was fun between Marek and Caterina; these are my vampires to kill, no mine, it was cute! Marek and his brothers are sons of Hades, and are tasked with guarding the gates to the Underworld. Also, Marek feels an intense pull to slaughter vampires because of some past hurt he has. Caterina slays vampires in hopes of saving her brother. When Caterina and Marek cross paths while killing some vampires, they decide to join forces, but they are going to find that vampires are the least of their issues.
Sexy, passionate connection between Caterina and Marek. With some really sweet moments too. I liked how Caterina kicked butt, but wish that didn’t sort of fade as the story went on; she lets her desperation to save her brother cloud her judgment, so she ends up making some moronic decisions. Still like her enough though. Loved all the action with fighting the vampires, daemons, etc, and the whole sons of Hades thing is lots of fun. I’d recommend starting this series from the beginning because there will be spoilers for past books. It was great how all the brothers worked together; them having different powers is awesome. Excited to read the rest of their stories; especially Keras’ story. The author did a great job of creating an interesting world and characters for this series; I was entertained the whole read, this is a full and compelling story.
Marek and Caterina make an interesting couple. Both are driven by revenge, protecting loved ones and outstanding battle skills. Their chance meeting starts an exciting fast paced story where revenge is the main theme.
Marek hates two thing Daemons and Vampires. This fact is pivotal to the whole story line. He struggles with his hatred and love surrounding this area. How does one put aside hatred that is centuries old? The author manipulated this area in a manner that showed that love is not blind. It's about making choices and living with them.
Caterina has too much love. She loves very deep and will do anything to protect those she loves. Even go to her death if necessary. What I like about her is how intelligent she is and how quickly she makes a decision. Also, it helps that she is a kick ass fighter and a strong woman. I appreciate the authors ability keep Caterina's character real and not sappy.
This story has an exciting character list with the Illusionist from the past book, a Wraith, Vampires and Daemon's. Oh, wait did I mention Gods, Demi Gods and Goddesses. All Marek's brothers are present in this book with their very distinct individual personalities which makes for a wild time when they are all together.
The author Felicity Heaton's development of these characters is superb causing this reader to pay close attention to what she was reading earning this book 5 STAR's.
I was given a preview copy of this book. I was very excited to receive it as I really enjoyed the last three books in this series and was not disappointed. Marek is another brooding brother with a compulsion/addiction to kill vampires, and a strong hatred of Daemons. On one of his vampire nests hunts he discovers someone had got there before him. Caterina is a human who also has a desperate need to fight and kill vampires. But her reason is that by doing so she might hopefully kill some kind of head vampire who had turned her brother into a vampire, which would then hopefully cure him and turn him back to human. Marek and Caterina have instant chemistry and agree to meet up again for a vampire hunt. It's great to see a strong female lead character, that is as tough as the boys. It was also lovely to revisit with the other brothers of Marek and to see how them and their female partners were. The brother Calistos and how he is still unable to recover from the death of his twin sister Calindria features often. I hope that Ms Heaton is hinting that Calindria will be brought back and featured in her own book in the future. This is another book that you can just not put down. It is very well written, fast paced with lots happening. I can’t wait for the next one in the series!
This is the fourth book in the Guardians of Hades series. About a group of brothers that are sent to Earth to guard the Gates to the Hell Realm. This book about Marek seems to pick right up from the previous book about Esher, so it is a continuation from the previous book that will keep you engaged from start to finish. So, in my opinion it is best to read these books in order to fully understand the "who, what, where, when, why, how come and what ifs" of these stories. I love this series. It has characters from Greek mythology, mystery, and romance. Truthfully, I enjoyed the books prior to this one about Marek a lot better. Marek’s vengeance against the Vampires seemed almost like an after thought just to have a villain to fight other than the main ones that they are still learning about, to be able to protect the gates. And Marek’s and Caterina’s love story and HEA seemed a little rushed to me. Do not get me wrong I still loved the book, but it was more for the continuance of the storyline itself and finding out more about the people that are out to harm them. I still would and will recommend this book and the entire series to all my friends. And I can not wait to read the rest of the brothers’ stories.
It’s been a bit of a wait since the last Guardians of Hades book, but the wait was definitely worth it. I enjoyed every bit of this.
It’s Marek’s turn. Technically these books are all stand-alones, but there’s a ongoing story arc that continues throughout the books, so it definitely helps to read them all in order.
Marek and Caterina are thrown together as they are both hunting the same enemy. Although they have different reasons that could put them at odds with each other.
This had all the things that I love in a great book. Action, emotion, and great characters that you are on board with from the get go. Plus a meaty plot that moves along at a great pace and makes you want to keep reading. I always enjoy Felicity Heaton’s books and this was definitely no exception.
Caterina and Marek were both strong, but multi-faceted with vulnerable moments as well. They went together perfectly. I loved all the secondary characters, especially all the brothers.
All in all a thoroughly enjoyable read. If you like PNR then you’ll definitely enjoy this. I can’t wait for the next book. Recommended.
So brainy Marek gets his turn under the author's incredible hands. His affinity is earth and although we don't learn much of the quiet brother in the previous three books his presence is known. We did get a glimpse of his dark side and its need for fulfillment in Esher's book. So we learn more about our quiet nerd god and see Hades and Persephone more involved. As the seven siblings battle demons and whatnots to protect the gates, they all are focused on finding their deceased beloved sister Calindria's soul. So finding the elusive illusionist and her Wraith lover are key. Plus we learn their names. Only Marek finds someone he never expected in his pursuit of vanquishing vampires, he finds a vampire slayer Caterina. But our story isn't all roses without its thorns. A great read that brought tears to my eyes. So now we get to read about the baby in the group of sons, Calistos. His air affinity and talent to portal home to mom and dad has been useful for the boys to use. So I am eager to read what our amnesiac youngster has in store for us and his daredevil, adrenaline ways.
This is painfully bad. Felicity Heaton's Eternal Mates series is one of my favorites of the PNR genre so I'm not sure what went wrong with this Guardian of Hades series. I keep trying to jump into the series and trying different books to see if one of them catches my attention but I've DNFed the first 3 books and I'm putting this one on pause too.
The heroine, Caterina, is pretty much TSTL. She is lured into some nefarious plan by the bad guy with promises of freeing her brother from his Vampirism and she never asks how or demands that the guy prove that it can be done (with another Vampire subject). Just takes him at face value that her brother won't be a vampire anymore. Serious facepalm moment here.
I don't care about her or Marek and I dislike that they had sex so quickly after meeting (occurs about 20% into the book). Marek doesn't seem to care about her, she just wonders if she should regret having sex with him and questions herself if she should tell her brother about it(!) Why would you tell him? Why is it his business?
Since he was betrayed many, many years ago, Marek has felt the need to kill as many vampires as possible. His real job is to protect the gates to the underworld with his brothers. They wouldn't be happy with his hobby.
Caterina is a human who has been trying to find the vampire who turned her brother. If she can kill that one maybe he will be cured. She may have taken on more than she can cope with.
Our brave heroine loves her brother and will risk anything to save him.
Our hero also loves his family and takes his work very seriously. They are both incredible fighters and they need to be. This book is full of vicious battles. Vampires, deamons, wraiths and Gods will have you hiding behind the sofa when they fight.
This book is part of a series that is best read in order, but you could read it on it's own. You will meet the other brothers, some of whom have their significant others. That's why I say the series should be read in order.
Once bitten twice shy baby isn't that how it goes? and Marek is a wee bit more than shy, he's got this feeling, this need to end vampires. Yep, he's got some history with the glorious fanged ones and most bad blood.
Betrayal is a hard emotion to get a handle on, and Marek feeling it in spades and has hardened his heart toward anything to do with love.
What wouldn't you do for family? battle a next of blood-drinkers? and that's just the thing Caterina is a girl on a mission a serious mission her brother hangs in the win or lose depending on the outcome.
Felicity is such a remarkable writer. her story unfolds into a world she's created with characters with personality, some you will like others not so much. Her descriptions of what's going on make you feel like you're right there and you're eager thumb through to the next pages. Its been a great series and Marek and great addition. Enjoy
I'm loving this series so much! Felicity is an amazing world builder and the characters she creates are complex and loveable.
Marek is driven by anger and betrayal, the betrayal happened hundreds of years ago but something inside him broke the day he was betrayed by the woman he loved. Now, he is committed to eradicating her entire species, vampires. This hobby of his is something he has kept from his brothers. It doesn't interfere with him guarding the gate in Spain and they would be furious if they knew. It was on a hunt that he met Caterina, a beautiful woman and a vampire hunter.
Caterina has a personal reason to hate vampires, she needs to save her brother. She has known for a while that humans aren't the only species on Earth but it isn't until meeting Marek that the extent of it.
Caught up in a war not of their making, Marek and Caterina fight for their chance to be together.
If you love a band of brothers having each other's backs, god's that are guardians and sexy, and a kick-ass heroine, this is a book for you.
The brothers are fab, the banter they share is entertaining, they have strong relationships and each has a special power, but some of them could be called a curse at times.
This is Marek's book and he is about to meet the woman of his dreams and that would be great if only life wasn't so complicated and dangerous in their world!
Cat, as I'm calling her is badass, she is off hunting vampires all by herself, but she really isn't all hard, she has a heart full of love.
This is one action-packed romance that most definitely a page-turner.
Marek a male with a wounded heart and no intention of ever letting another female in there. Caterina a woman battling vampires in an attempt to save her brother from his fate. If she manages to find and kill his maker maybe she can break the curse of Vampirism.
Marek feels a compulsion to kill vampires after giving his heart to and being betrayed by one. Following his compulsion to kill vampires Marek run across Caterina whom is busy clearing out the nest of vampires he had chosen to wipe out himself.
Great recipe for disaster, can they overcome their differences and prejudices to allow them both to grow an d love.
Marek is the fourth book in the Guardians of Hades Series. This book centers around Marek, the male lead, and Caterina, the female lead. Their first encounter is while they're both out hunting.
They both are keeping secrets. Since Marek was betrayed, he has felt the need to kill as many vampires as possible. Caterina has a desperate need to fight and kill as many vampires in order to save someone near and dear.
Marek and Caterina have a connection and chemistry that is believable, Overall, another well written book written in dual points a view, filled with suspense, heartbreak, deceit, and ultimately, love.
I am patiently awaiting the next book in the series..
