An Anthology Worthy of Biting Into
I’m pleased to leave a positive review for this enjoyable collection of short stories. Carter’s anthology offers a variety of entertainment options that range from unsettling to terrifying. It is hard for me to pick a favorite. The author does a great job of paying homage to Lovecraft’s mythos, as well as exploring the weird West, offering up Kung fu action, and delving into the realm of arachnophobia.

January 16, 2022Between the Teeth collects 16 short and flash fiction tales from Jeff C. Carter, each prefaced by a paragraph from the author about the piece, including any previous publishing credits. These are a departure from the more family-aware pieces in Jeff’s holiday collections, so be advised of that.
The stories start off with serial killer in an ER who has more to worry about than his heart troubles. The exciting conclusion, “Eyes All Aglow,” wraps a cozy Christmas in a troublesome web. The stories between illustrate Jeff C. Carter’s obvious interest in history and travel. Bangkok. An alternative old American West. A ‘20’s Exclusive Club. An unusual dental exam, a reinterpretation of a Johnny Cash song, and a grisly love letter. Fleeing soldiers. Through this book, I was even introduced to an 18th Century sculptor and an interesting 20th century invention.
Published in 2019, the book boasts about 200 pages, including a blurb about Mr. Carter’s newest project, Criterion.
