Redeeming Romance #2

Virtually Mine: a love story

Rate this book
Could Kate's Imaginary Boyfriend be for real?
Devastated to think that she's lost her steady beau to another ingénue, aspiring actress Kate Valentine consoles herself by renting an Imaginary Boyfriend from Internet romance broker Virtually Mine. Kate's Imaginary Boyfriend sends her flowers. He calls. He texts sweet nothings, plucking at her heartstrings. As the lines between make-believe and reality blur, Kate finds herself longing for true love, never knowing that it might be much closer than she thinks.
Meanwhile, Charlie Butters, an underdog IT guy for Virtually Mine has it bad for Kate Valentine. It's a secret that has Charlie's heart pounding, just at the sight of her. Fact dating and relationships -- well, let's just say those things haven't exactly been on Charlie's social calendar yet. Truth be told, he's never ever kissed a girl.
It's not like Charlie is all that bad to look at, but with his average guy mug and shy with women nature, it's all he can do to function around Kate Valentine. After all, she's the girl of his dreams. She's sweet. She's kind. She's also prettier than a fresh-picked daisy. It's about all a boy next door like Charlie can do to put two words together in her presence. He knows it's half crazy to think he could compete for Kate's attention, not if Kate's ex, Dustin, or the face model for her Imaginary Boyfriend, Eric, have anything to say about it. But maybe, just maybe, with a little faith, hope, and love, Charlie's dreams could come true.

Will Kate meet her Imaginary Boyfriend face to face?
Will Dustin get the second chance with Kate he wants?
Will Charlie find the courage to tell Kate how he feels?

Susan Rohrer has done it again with this whimsical romantic comedy, chock full of lovable characters you will never forget. You'll find yourself laughing, even crying with them, throughout this heart-tugging tale.

My favorite characters are Charlie and MJ. They had me laughing out loud and wanting to read more of their antics. They remind me how far people can go when they are looking to find love.

Virtually Mine is an easy read. It's "fantasy" yes. But a delightful one at that. So suspend your disbelief and enjoy living in a world that's a little different than "reality" for a while

Um, I'm not sure how to really describe what I thought of this...the first chapter or two I struggled to get into the story...it could be because I was on drugs from having the flu or it could be because I was tired, but the story jumped around so much I had a hard time getting a feel for the characters. I did stick it out and eventually finished the book in one sitting. So, here is what I thought:

1) I loved M.J. The girl had spunk and she went for what she wanted. I had to love that about her and the fact that Rob realized it too, was sweet to see. Could I see any of this happening...maybe so that is the best part. I have met some insane women who would risk their jobs to meet a guy...and I know alot who would risk their health and her pretending to be a dog walker and being allergic to dogs goes to show she really did go to some extremes to meet Rob. Again, unbelievable? Surprisingly, NO. Would I have gone that far...I guess it all depends on the guy (sadly).

2) As for Kate...I liked Kate, but I think she went over the top to continue her virtual relationship. I mean, sell your furniture and car to continue to buy time with him? Not so much believable to me. However, the fact that she did track him down at the end worked well for me. A part of me wished she gave Eric a chance, but that is the shallow side of me that saw him as a stand up HOT guy. Rare to see those. The fact that she went for the guy behind the looks said alot for her at the end.

3) Charlie - ok, he bugged me a little. For Christ sake, I have never met a guy who was too shy to ask a girl on a date. He already had an in. He was the building manager...he knew she and Dustin broke up...he was in love with her...who wouldn't have at least thought of some way to talk with her and show her that he got her? Instead, it cost the poor girl all that money and angst just to see the "boy next door". Man up Charlie!

4) Dustin - finally ended up where he belonged. Boy was as dump as dirt. Never understood that expression, but it fit. He came across as a lovable idiot, but idiot he was. Thank God she woke up to that one. I couldn't believe the worry she put into that one.

Anyhow, given the above, I couldn't say I loved the book and it did jump around alot to get everyone's perspective, but I can say it definitely had some redeeming qualities.

I spent the first few chapters of this story feeling confused. It may have been in part that it was late and I was tired, but once I got the feel for the story, I enjoyed it.

Virtually Mine shows us several different people and story lines and how they're all connected. It starts out with Kate and Dustin who are in an acting class and are doing a scene--they are also a real-life couple. We also see Kate and her roommate, MJ, and their story. Their apartment manager also works for a virtual boyfriend company, which Kate gets wrapped in later. MJ sees a guy she likes and becomes a dog walker during her lunch break to meet him. See?? A little confusing. And there are more little twists and turns and connections, but you'll have to read the story to discover them.

It was a light and fluffy story without much depth, but sometimes those are great because you don't really have to think. Although...I guess in this one, I did have to think a little to make sense of all the relationships. :)

Content: clean.

Interesting story about a virtual world colliding with real world. A lot of this book seemed very far removed from reality, but the idea behind the company was interesting (and slightly hysterical). I loved MJ and her story. The dog walking thing was pretty entertaining.

I will say that the multiple character dialogues were hard to follow. There were too many voices in this book and it made things get messy when trying to read. I would have liked the book to focus in on Charlie, Kate, and MJ. I didn't need the thoughts from Dustin or Eric. There points of view didn't add much to the story.

it was free on amazon.com one day so I "bought" it.
Author tried to make it a Christian novel by adding a few sentences about attending church or asking God. The results were awkward and only added to the weird abrupt story line.

Very Sweet

A sweet and Godly twist on the "Cyrano" story, VIRTUALLY MINE is appropriate even for tweens and teenagers. I would certainly let my older grandchildren read it. A lovely story.

Cute, short read. Not a deep story, but some humor and funny situations along with the romance. Clean.

Yet another "how did they fall in love" and "why did they fall in love" story. Too much character development and too many plot lines and not enough relationship development.
