The Elvish Trilogy #3

Ember: Elvish Trilogy Series, Book 3

Rate this book
The final installment in the Elvish Trilogy is a tale of sacrifice, forgiveness, and the lengths we'll go for those we love.

War has come to the mainlands. Venick is at its head, using a fake betrothal and his new Commander's title to lead the resistance into battle. And while Venick is glad to have Ellina back on his side of the fight, he can't help but worry about all the ways she's changed...and the way things have changed between them.

Ellina-haunted by her time in Evov and grappling with her newfound voicelessness-can't seem to find her place among the resistance. Though her will is stronger than ever, she'll need to relearn to trust herself if she has any hope of defeating her sister...and her own inner demons.

As the fighting intensifies, Venick and Ellina enlist the help of some old friends, as well as a surprising new ally. But with the Dark Army bearing down on the mainlands and powerful black magic at play, it may already be too late.

I’m a character-driven SFF author who writes about magic, found family, and forbidden love. Enemies to lovers is my trope. Romance is my favorite genre to read, though I'm trying to branch out. I was born in Ohio, spent a few childhood years in Missouri, grew up in Florida, and have since lived in Fort Worth, Seattle, San Francisco and now the East Bay. I bake sourdough on Wednesdays and dessert on Fridays. I’m a hobby photographer. I have two distinct writing styles, one serious (adult), one goofy (YA), which basically reflects who I am as a person. My favorite words are always, surrender and headlong. S is my least favorite letter.

"Ember," was the thrilling conclusion to the trilogy. It was a heart-pounding ride through a world torn apart by war and magic; and I love the complex relationships between the characters.

At the heart of the story is the enduring romance between Venick and Ellina; their struggle to rebuild trust and connection amidst the chaos of war adds depth and emotional resonance to the narrative.

Right from the very beginning, was a whirlwind of action, political intrigue, and the consequences of past choices. The pacing is relentless, making it nearly impossible to put the book down.

As the story unfolds, Venick and Ellina enlist the help of old friends and a surprising new ally, creating a sense of unity and camaraderie among the resistance.

Loved it! Five stars.

Lotsa angst, but enjoyable nonetheless. I liked this series. Good for when one is in the mood for a romantic fantasy.

Plot- The war is won and the main couple live happily ever after. But it felt very long, and I struggled staying engaged. I almost quit multiple times. I just didn’t care. And that disappointed me.

Writing fine.

Characters- They were fine. Tbh, I wasn’t that connected to them. I have no idea why. This book just didn’t have any magic for me.
Also, fyi, the elf best friend, Doudie or whatever (the guy who can command horses), had a personality transplant from Book 1 and that was super distracting.

Romance- I could not feel any chemistry between them. They were completely blah.
For me, what little chemistry they had at the beginning of the series was missing in Book 2 and was long gone by Book 3.
Why? I have no idea. They just miss the spark.

Content-

Language- No swearing.
Spice- one vague sex scene, mostly off page. Maybe it would be considered PG-13, if that.
Cover- meh
POV- dual POV
Cliffhanger- no
Format- - audiobook via Hoopla
Narration- - good.

How I rated the series-
Book 1, “Elvish” - 4 stars
Book 2, “Elder” - 3 stars
Books 3, “Ember” - 2 stars

Wow! It’s been quite the journey :). I really enjoyed this book—the twisting plot, likable characters (*glancing very pointedly at Dourin*), and the way everything tied together. I adored the ending, it was very satisfying so a hundred thanks to the author for that one ahah.
In the first book I had been a bit bummed that there hadn’t been any distinct positive themes, but now that I’ve reached the end it all came together and made up for it in double :).
The author’s writing was gorgeous as always (some people may find it a bit slow and description/introspection heavy, but much of it is important to the story!)
My favorite part about all this was that though it was a romance, there were plenty of other intriguing relationships between characters that made this all the more worth reading.
The only thing about this last installment is that the rating was higher than usual than the other two books. I’d personally say a mature 15-16+ for this one.
Great story!

Loved the ending. I think what I loved most was that it didn't end with "and nothing bad ever happened and all characters finished their journeys," but, in a way with "they rediscovered themselves, learned to love themselves and that is the reason they will be ok". Because at essence, that is what this series is for me: a story about learning to love yourself even if you're too emotional, about forgiveness and love. Honestly, I would love to read another book in this universe and with these characters.

What a trilogy! I'm really happy I got to read this series, it's really underrated.
The 3 books talk about Venick, a human, who ventures into the lands of the elves where he lies to them in order to save himself. Elves are not known for being merciful with the humans. The story develops, gets better and better when we're introduced to Ellina, an elf that falls for the human, even if that's against the nature of the Elves.
Each book was slow at the beginning but then another plot twist unfolds and you're hooked to the story again.
I really enjoyed reading the battle scenes, and the dual povs were interesting because we got to delve deep into the characters of Venick and Ellina.
This trilogy won't leave you disappointed, if you have read this please let me know! And if you haven't I recommend you to pick this up😁

Always impressed by this author's ability to write complex characters who face difficult choices. Their "layered-ness" makes them relatable and makes the story feel real. The author kept the same high quality and consistency throughout all three books. This trilogy felt like one cohesive journey which I really liked. A great concluding book.

Very similar to the first and second book in the series. It took me awhile to get into it but then I couldn't put it down!!! If you're okay with a little bit of a slower paced book I recommend this series!

Received as an ARC, this is an honest review. The immersive and wonderfully written epic fantasy trilogy has come to its end but not before taking you on a wild, haunting journey facing humanity and the eleven world alike. As chilling shadows hypnotically trail the allied resistance at every turn; haunted by the torture suffered by Balid, Ellina is determined to have her justice against him and reclaim her stolen voice. The battle are wondrously intense and unpredictable that they leave you shocked in the outcome. Ember's deepest impact is in the poignant and shattering secrets buried within Ellina and Farah and their family that will leave you mind blown... and delivers one badass twist at the end. Highly recommended.

Note: My reviews are written as a personal note to myself about the plot and the story just incase I ever want to reexperience it. If Goodreads had the option of making them private, I would. So please, do not take them seriously and scroll down to a better review which is undoubtedly much more coherent than mine and makes much more sense. Me? I'm just gonna ramble my heart out.

It was cool. Solid series. Decent development. Pretty satisfying end.

Plot Summary
Ellina went voiceless. But then she regained her voice. Lots of stuff happened in the middle.

Overall, I did like the story and characters. What I didn't like though, the the whole story was just seen through the eyes of Venick and Ellina. There were so many promising side characters, but we never knew what they were up to, unless they spoke to the two MCs. I'd rather have different POV's thank page long descriptions of how flowers remined Venick of Ellina, or how Ellina imaged a maid preparing her bedroom.

Also, buying your gays is so not cool anymore 🙄

Whew! Glad I read to the end!

The trilogy wraps up very nicely with a longer denouement so that loose ends are tied off. While much of the series is rather bleak with grief and loss issues, war, and heavy stakes, this third book has moments of humor, sunshine, love, and tenderness. Many of the little details and clues, hinted at along the way, coalesce into believable plot developments, so that the end is quite satisfying.

There are a few more writing errors than normal toward the end of the book, but they can be ignored. There are more deaths, some violent scenes with quickly described gory moments, and confrontations regarding severe family dysfunction. However, the author does a great job of balancing the dark elements of the story with healing, redemption, and, when possible, forgiveness.

If you're expecting a gentle lead in to this third and final book of the trilogy you will be sadly disappointed. Ember drags you into the action on page one, right where 'Elder' left off. I tend to read a couple of chapters each night before sleep but I found I couldn't leave this book down. How S.G. Prince can drag you through schemes and betrayal, battles and their aftermath yet still get so much into this one final book is beyond me. I'm glad to say that there is a satisfying end to the trilogy, if now exactly how I envisioned it. I am only sorry that this is the end of the line for Venick, Ellina and their friends.

As sad as I am to see this amazing trilogy come to an end, I have to say that, in Ember, S. G. Prince has written a conclusion as exciting and satisfying as the rest of the series. The romance between principal characters Venick and Ellina persists, complicated by their struggle to overcome the remnants of their mutual mistrust. Other characters, both friend and foe, return to add layers of mystery and intrigue. Deep, long-held secrets come to light, many times from unexpected directions. Battles are fought, often with more cunning than weaponry. If you haven’t yet enjoyed The Elvish Trilogy, you’re fortunate to have a wondrous world waiting for you inside these books.

A great end to the trilogy. The characters stayed consistent throughout the book, only changing as they grew through struggles and relationships. The writing style was easy to read and the world-building was great, I could feel like I was there. I was able to guess some plots and reveals, but that was okay as they were set up well and made sense. There were also a couple of twists that I didn't guess and was pleasantly surprised by them. A good solid book and series, I will be adding this to my “series I need to read again” list. The audiobook was also done really well.

3.5 stars rounded up

This was definitely my favorite of the three books! I am very satisfied with how this series comes to a close. I really liked Venick and Ellina's slow-burn romance and their individual character arcs; I adored some of the side characters, especially Dourin; and I had a good time with the plot, despite being able to guess several of the reveals. If you are new to the fantasy or fantasy romance genre, I think this is a good series to pick up - it's not too dense or too steamy (it leans very PG-13 in the romance department).

This series was excellent!! So much character development, and action. Interesting world building, and I really liked that at the end everything was wrapped up.

Even small interpersonal issues with side characters were addressed (instead of being used to fix a plot hole or something, and then never being addressed again like some books where you're left going "wait.. wtf ever happened with that...?")

Well thought out and engaging. Over and over I am so impressed with this author's writing style!

A beautiful conclusion to a wonderful trilogy, the storyline was somewhat predictable, but hopefully so, and some of the twists along the way made it fun and engaging. I love the way Sarah portrays her characters' feelings and thoughts. It was worth the four-year wait for this book. I shall miss Ellina and Venick. Maybe they will show up in a new and magical series from the pen (or keyboard) of S.G. Prince sometime in their future together.

I greatly anticipated this book and it was even more than I hoped for! Ember kept me turning the pages; there were plenty of twists and “Ah-ha” moments. A perfect grand finale to her debut trilogy and her best work to date. Thank you for Ember and the entire Elvish Trilogy, S.G. Prince! I can’t wait to read it again. Looking forward to all of your future books.

My reading slump is back — and guess who’s to blame? This book.

It dragged so much, and a lot of the plot just felt completely pointless. I don’t even know where to start with all the things that didn’t make sense. I’m just… disappointed.

The first book excited me, and this one put me right back where I started. This series should have been two books, not four. But because publishing is weird, we had to slog through two stretched-out ones in the middle. Wonderful.

After reading Elvish,i doubt anyone can write a fitting conclusion for such a fantasy. But S.G. Prince proves to be more than just an amateur author!!
She proves to be more than capable of making a fitting conclusion!!
Am not one to offer a spoiler, but i can assure you this,"after finishing, you would be dying for her next work!!"
It's not a collection to miss!!

I loved this series and I sure loved the unexpected ending. I started reading this simply because it was from a new author and she was from Seattle… But I am happy to say that this trilogy was a pleasant surprise. I have a new author to follow and she has not let me down. Totally worth reading it all.

I'm honestly so sad this series is over, it's been the best and most fulfilling journey and I have fallen so in love with these characters and honestly I was worried coming into the third that it might not live up to the first two but it SO DID it's my favorite of the three I wish I could read it again for the first time!!!

Thank you for finishing the trilogy, it was a great book… I enjoyed every aspect of the book from beginning to end, matter-of-factly Amber finished off the trilogy great… As with the first book I couldn’t put it down and I read it from beginning to end in a matter of a couple of days… You do a great job I can’t wait for the next set to come out… I wonder what it will be

Technically this book is just as good as the previous ones, though I found the fighting scenes halfway through the book a bit too tedious. I am not big on blunt fight scenes in general and prefer discussions about politics, therefore I give this book one star less than I did the rest of the series.

I still think Raffan is great but Dourin’s my favourite

Thank god, I finally finished this! More romance would have made this better. Having two MCs be people of few words just didn't work in this, a show or movie, maybe. However, in this instance, it made this slow going and so boring in some places. I probably won't be recommending this, just because of the pacing.

Fantastic read - couldn’t put it down after I’d started, just like the first two. The author has a great knack for painting scenic backdrops before pulling you into the action. Love the character development.
